The King's Speech ♫ Empty Sat Sep 03, 2022 7:22 pm

King Reign

The opening of the rifts had all but unleashed another catastrophe, in the same vein as the demonic invasions a few years back. Despite the sealing of the gates to the Abyss, other dimensions and their inhabitants still found ways of reaching their tendrils into this world. As the full extent of the army mobilized for total war, a podium had also been set up at the square close to Mercurius. King Reign would give a speech, broadcasted live to every corner of this country, where all could hear his royal decree through lacrima vision. Even then, many chose to gather at the square and see the man with their own eyes, leaving a worried, anxious bustling in the air, one that soon turned into a loud, adulating cheer as as the man's golden mane slowly came into view as he climbed up the stairs and approached the podium, escorted by his most trusted men, Zade and Theseus, the King's Sword and Shield. The bearers of late King Arthurias' will. Absent his crown and usual finery, the young King Reign had instead replaced them for a practical set of armor fit for a warrior of his caliber, his long, golden blonde hair fluttering in the breeze. The cool and collected, amicable disposition he was loved for turned into the stern, yet hopeful posture of one who understood the stakes, without the slightest sliver of doubt in their ability to overcome them:

"People of Fiore, hear me!!", a stark contrast with the usual softness of his voice, Reign's words rang out with firm, bellowing gravitas, raising his hand as the admiring crowd fell silent, waiting as he looked back towards his citizens, "As many of you have heard, our land is under attack. As we speak, armies have already swarmed over from a parallel world, a dark mockery of the world we know and love. We've fought countless of them, but even now, only a few have caught even a glimpse of their generals. Dark reflections of the powerful people we've come to know, names we love or tremble at, twisted by the world that was once their home. They are coming, and they won't stop until they've claimed every inch of Earthland for their own. They don't care about what guild or town, what faith or creed you'll fight for. Everyone in this world is their enemy."

The man shook his head, clenching his fist against the podium as a knot formed his brow. He had tried the peaceful approach... But every messenger and diplomat he'd sent had never returned. Through the efforts of the Knights, his army, and the many mages who helped with the defense, had successfully shielded most of the civilian population... But the intensity of the attacks increased with every passing day, with stronger foes ready to fight at every corner. Even still, far too many had been lost already. The man gritted his teeth, pausing as he took a deep breath and looked not towards the crowd, but the lacrima vision cameras above, adressing each and every living soul in this country who might be watching. Not an order, but a plea:

"I come to you today not as your King, but as a fellow inhabitant of Earthland. The forces of the Dark Universe chose Fiore to stage their invasion. Perhaps they think us weak, divided. But we're so much more. Time and time again we've put our differences aside and stood together against an overwhelming enemy. And after demons and dragons, we are still here!!", with a defiant, resolute glare in his eyes, the king shouted, raising his fist as the cheering crowd responded with matching enthusiasm.

Despite the admiration he recieved at the capital, the King knew better... The country had never been this divided since the civil war... He acknowledged his share of the blame for this discord, and doubted a single speech would even begin to mend these wounds. Nonetheless, the man still held out hope that the people could come together in this time of need. He held his hands out, offering more than simple words... If not to mend the wounds, then perhaps simply to let the powerful talents of Fiore fight together as one:

"In the coming days there, there shall be no light and dark. Those who stand and fight will be heroes, and any bounties they might have will be forgiven if they so wish. I've opened Fiore's armory and treasury and sent some of our bravest, most experienced soldiers to each and every town and city in this land.", gesturing to the many soldiers at his back, knowing that in a matter of moments many of them would have reached the various cities of Fiore, ready to make good on the aid he promised, "Whoever, wherever you are, you have my word... On my honour as King, on my pride as a citizen of Fiore. If you wish to evacuate, our forces will protect you. And if you wish to fight for this world, you will not fight alone. Let us stand together, and triumph as one!!"

Jikan

"So that is what the King looks like hmmm?". Jikan sat in her room. Dim lights as the Lacrima showed the face of the King of Fiore. She leaned back in her wooden chair, a hand resting on the twisted armrests, her demonic left arm holding a dragon's skull. A make shift mug as she drunk. Her red hair rested behind her seat, blue green eyes piercing out at the face giving his speech.

The world they lived in was not perfect, and in far corners, close, numerous. There were many flaws. Flaws that were systematic, beyond people. And thus perpetuated by whoever in the system and world that wanted to take advantage. Known or not. As Reigns speech neared its end, Jikan stood from her seat. A sway of her hips as she walked to a window in her room. She gazed out of what was her territory. The progress of growth in Orchidia, her guild, their members...her kids. It would not mean a single thing if she allowed it to be burnt to the ground.

....and besides. The thought of witnessing herself from another world was, fascinating to be honest. Add in the hopefully powerful warriors she could face, well. How could she not want to take this opportunity? Her eyes burned with a bit of excitement as she took a sip, her eyes watching over her home as she thought. She did not know about the others of her guild but her at least? Very well King Reign...I will play along.

The Captain leaned upon the outer walls of the building, gazing over the sea of of denizens and foreigners from the roof of Mercurius. The view was astounding. From here, Alejandro could see the entire city and then some. Of course, the Elf remained as hidden as possible, only peeking to witness the performance that the king was about to put on. The Captain had stationed his men on other components of the building, some on the ground level amongst the commoners whilst others remained close to the windows inside of the castle. Any time the King stepped outside of his castle, extreme precautions were imperative. Reign was known throughout Fiore as a good king- arguably the best - but he had many enemies that even he was oblivious to they and lurked in the shadows.

The young King stepped out onto the terrace and almost immediately the crowd roared before he could even speak. Thousands of children, men, and woman were inspired just by his presence alone. The power this young man held was far greater than any other power in the country. To know that someone could use that power however they saw fit was...frightening to say the least. Alas, it was the way of the world. Some men used such power to enact violence and inspire fear, but Reign? He instilled love and hope in his people. Alejandro didn't know the king on a personal level but he was a fan. Any person who put a halt to Elven racism was good person in his book. The Captain continued to canvass Reign. He was a beautiful man, the Knight could only wonder what his love life looked. Women and men alike probably threw themselves at him.

The Stellan grabbed his weapon from behind and looked around to ascertain his men were still in position. If anybody wanted to test their fortuity, now would be the best time to do it. "Take formation, present arms." was all the captain said after tapping the lacrima device in his ear. Then suddenly, the crowd went mute. Reign began his grand speech with a bang, jumping right into the nitty gritty. Fiore was under siege, being ground zero for the raiders. Time was scarce and if they didn't increase the man power soon... The raiders were vigorous and had been victorious in certain cities. Everyday there had been rifts opening. It seemed as though the Dark Universers had an endless amount of troops. Reign assured the people though, that if they all stood together they could behold victory. Alejandro continued listening to the King. It was safe to say that everyone trusted in Reigns command- that was until...

"Those who stand and fight will be heroes, and any bounties they might have will be forgiven if they so wish. I've opened Fiore's armory and treasury and sent some of our bravest, most experienced soldiers to each and every town and city in this land"

The elf's eyes widened in shock. Ale understood the reason Reign said it because preserving the country was the most important thing right now, however, Ale knew that this would undoubtedly upset a shit load of Rune Knights and perhaps even some of the nobles. It wasn't far-fetched to assume that many of the citizens would feel some sort of way about such an announcement too. Those people had bounties for a reason most of the time. People had lost their entire families because of some of these wicked people and now the King was forgiving their malefactions? If any criminal shied away from this offer then they were simply out of their minds. The Hunter could already feel the disapproval from the other knights. He, on the other hand, knew it was a means to an end.

"Heh. You've just upset a lot of people, King Reign..." The young Celdrua sighed for what may come should they win the current war. "Dang."

Brone Heavyaxe
The giant lacrima screen in one of the main lounges projected the king's speech. A good number of the hirelings and guild associates were watching in silence and focus, along with Brone Heavyaxe, fully armored, save for the blue helm he usually keeps hanging off his belt. This was the first time the dwarf was able to put a face to the name King Reign; though he never truly had any interest in the king before, he respected the title and acknowledged with how the nation was overall, he figured the royal noble might have a good sense of leadership.

The speech was well received by the viewers in the lounge of Paradise Dawn's guild hall, especially by Brone, who was standing, arms crossed and itching to take up arms for not only the King, but the people who needed heroes of any kind. The only sound, save for the lacrima screen projecting the speech, that was heard was a quick scoff coming from the dwarf, drawing the attention of half the viewers in the room; they all knew it was concerning the offer the King made for the criminals. To have their bounties forgiven was a questionable decision, but Brone understood that King Reign had to do what is needed for the sake of the nation and it's citizens, so he nodded, accepting the speech in full.

"Gear up!" Brone called and every got to their feet at attention, "Ye heard yer king! We are to fight, for we are the Dawn to bring Paradise!" The lounge exploded in a rowdy cheer, for they all intended on giving their all in this war, for their families, friends, their guild, their home, and their nation.

Yuurei and Renji were relaxing in his office. Well, Renji was napping and Yuurei was catching up on tons of paperwork. He had been doing a lot of traveling, but now that he was back home, he decided to get on track. While doing this, the lacrima screen that was on his wall would turn on. He would look at it as if he didn’t do this but figured that it was someone in Central Fiore. He would see on the screen a beautiful man on a podium. It wasn’t just that there were two men next to him. His eyes were curious to see what the King of Fiore had to say.

He would stop his work, leaning back on his chair. Renji would open his eyes as he would look at the screen and then at Yuurei.

“What are we watching? You never turned that on.” He asked Yuurei.

Yuurei would chuckle a bit as he would answer Renji.

“It seems like we’re watching King Reign speak on the live broadcast. I’m sure everyone in the lounge is watching as well.” He said this to Renji.

The two of them would hear what he had to say. Yuurei would nod as he had already fought a bunch of people that had tried to destroy Rush Valley. They had failed, but it would seem like it was more than just that. He did know that someone had said they saw Brone with an evil aura destroy the steps he had walk on to establish this guild. It would seem like the rumors were true after all.

“I hope, the other version of me is dead because then we’re in serious trouble.” He laughed a bit as he was sure they would be fine.

Renji would hear this and he would shake his head.

“Don’t joke like that. I don’t want to see how you would look from another world.” Renji said.

King Reign would continue speaking, which would get the two of them to stop talking and listen again. Once the King had finished speaking, Yuurei would brush his hair back. It would seem like there was a war coming and he would have to take part in it. He had been collecting the Lost Pages because of this, but it was serious now. It wouldn’t take long, but he would hear cheering and roaring from the lower level of the guild hall building he was next to. He had a smile as it would seem like they were roaring to go into battle.

“I guess we have our answer. Paradise Dawn will partake in this war. Who do you think we will end up fighting?” He asked Renji.

“I don’t know, but make sure that you take Brone and Kaito with you. Still, finish the paperwork here, so you can leave.” Renji said this as Yuurei would go back to his paperwork for the time being.

Quietly observing the king's speech through the lacrima the young elf could feel herself getting restless. While she understood the king decided to make this course of action out of necessity, to create a sense of unity and help give the people of Fiore a fighting chance against the dark raiders, she couldn't help but wonder if it had been the correct answer. Too many people would scorn the decision of forgiving the crimes of these who helped deal with the invasion. The pardon would likely be used as a simple excuse to stir the anger in the people, and if a civil war was to erupt over it she wouldn't be surprised.

Heaving a sigh as she turned off the device she couldn't genuinely say she cared. She was merely going to fight for the sake of protecting her loved ones. Duty was something she had long considered past her, and as such as long as her loved ones stayed safe, she would fight...

Jin stood on the outskirts of the speech. His back leaned against the cold concrete wall. "So that's who he is," he thought. The man was a target to most of the people that Jin knew. And the paladin was no fan of nobility or king's. Not after the wars. In any event. The man was willing to have all dark guilds and light guilds fight together. He heard that before. And it still didn't turn out so well for them in the end. For Jin it all seemed like a clever tactic to get out of doing any of the fighting himself. What a king. Maybe he was giving him to hard a shake, but his pallet was soured.

"When's the damned land not under attack," he sighed but had to accept the offer. It was good deal in the end and it put some more coin in his pocket. There would no doubt be people that needed to be healed as well.

Nana listened to the man as he droned on. The daemon woman was not present at the speech, but rather in the town of Oak. She leisurely laid about a lofty beam far above the patrons of a local bar. A magical lacrima sphere broadcast the live events to all around. Quite showy. She thought to herself as she half paid attention to the lacrima's images but mostly listened to the message as she continue to read her book.

He was being generous, or showing his generosity at least. To her, he seemed an incapable man and simply used his station and the citizens' taxes to throw around and appease the ignorant masses. A true ruler defended their lands. Only a manipulative and weak ruler would seek to placate the defenders of his lands with riches. The true worth of this 'king' was in how he ruled his people... not how he sat on a throne. Still. A few of the rewards seemed agreeable to Nana. She scoffed at the idea of her reputation being wiped away though. She had worked hard to earn it after all.

And yet another speech. Kaz stood by as per his obligations as a wizard saint. although he didn't really want to be there. It all seemed like a scene he had watched unfold many times. But it was important to give the people something to rally behind and stand with. He looked out to see who all was going to be participating. It seemed that once again the dark mages were allowed to get off their sentence and help. It didn't bother Kaz. He had worked and would work with them anyway if it was the best way to go about business.

It was refreshing to see the man out and about. Even if it was for this brief moment. There was already an interesting list of players out in the audience. Once the King began to wrap up his speech, the wind mage stepped back away and headed off to do some work. The rune knights seemed in fine order as he passed them by.

The King's Speech ♫ Empty Thu Oct 20, 2022 8:36 pm

Ikazuchi
Ikazuchi watched the broadcast curiously from an obscure vantage point in Orchidia. It wasn’t possible for him to appraise someone with his blessing through a broadcast, but his experience told him that the king wasn’t someone weak. ‘I want to fight him…’ This was the first thought Ikazuchi had after seeing him appear. Whether it was Reign’s knights or the king himself, Ikazuchi felt that he would be able to enjoy himself in battle against such individuals. The slight regret that he wasn’t in the capital to observe the speech directly flit through his mind.

Those thoughts couldn’t continue as the speech continued. Reign spoke of the invading armies and their leaders, something that Ikazuchi had recently experienced directly with Xerxes. His interest was piqued at the mention of the alternate universe versions of the powerful mages and adventurers. ‘I want to fight them too…’ One after another, he was introduced to several people that ignited his passion for combat.

The feeling of excitement he felt caused him to unintentionally smile at the prospect of countless enemies surging forth from the other universe. There was even the slight hope that he may encounter himself for an extremely interesting battle. It was at this point that the King’s gaze shifted from those attending the speech in the capital to the lacrima vision cameras.

Ikazuchi couldn’t help but shake his head at what the king said while seemingly addressing himself and others like him directly. He could understand Reign’s position and intent, but he disliked the weakness shown due to the honest request. Those that were willing to fight, would fight. ‘I wonder how the citizens will respond?’

Even as he listened to Reign’s statement and offer, Ikazuchi could only think about how difficult public sentiment was to shift. He would be amazed if the words of one man could force people to put down their grudges and fears towards someone like himself with a massive bounty. Even the forgiveness offered didn’t seem meaningful to him. As someone with a relatively large bounty, he knew he wouldn’t change his ways simply because he was pardoned.

He lost interest in the speech entirely as the king’s closing statements were transmitted. “I’ll just fight anyone who comes my way, Dark Universe or not…” This was Ikazuchi’s answer to the announcement. Nothing changed for him, he still intended to defend the guild and the town where it resided. If it were safe, he would seek out other battles on his own.

Interlude...

Some time had passed since the Desiertian and Ikazuchi had stopped the attempted invasion and conquering of Orchidia Town by way of the Dark Invaders. Only a few days prior had Xerxes regained his hearing. His body was still bruised and bandaged but that did not affect his mobility. He had just come back from his daily training and regained both his armor and weapon from Ikazuchi who had performed repairs. Before they departed, Ikazuchi told him of a message from the King that was specifically regarding the invaders that they fought. Slightly interested in what the king had to say, Xerxes took the lacrima Ikazuchi provided and opted to watch it in his room. Before long, Xerxes makes it into his room and closes the door before placing his weapons in their appropriate locations. Once everything was in its proper place, the man sits down on his bed and begins to watch the speech. As each word escapes the King’s lips, each rallying cry he spoke, Xerxes grew angrier and angrier. He had a particular disdain for the King, largely because he was in a position that Xerxes sought. He thought Reign undeserving of his position, a fake crown for a fake king. After his words of regarding those who stood and fought to be heroes, the sound of shattering glass could be heard. The lacrima lay against the wall shattered into pieces, an irritated Xerxes staring at it with a dark expression. He places his hands behind his head and allows his body to sink into the mattress before closing his eyes. “I might have to pay Ikazuchi back for that…

Kaito just heard a loud voice and he wondered what it was now as this had been a hard enough time to deal with why are we ruining the peace and quiet that people should be enjoying before the next wave of danger flushes over the country or maybe some kind of dark creature sweeping through the place like it flew straight out of fairy tale book some poor child was reading but the house they were reading in it collapsed as this new threat escaped but at that point Kaito was just being bitter at the wide spread panic this message would cause. He knows that it probably will not look so pretty in the end but he guessed that the king knew that and that is why he figured warning the people was their best bet to make sure that the country didn't just start falling to pieces before he could get a reign on it, Kaito laughed to himself before of the pun he thought about matching the kings name.
