Late Night [TDC: Festival] Empty Sun Mar 20, 2022 5:38 pm

Yuurei


Yuurei had enjoyed his time in the festival with Amir, and Vex, but he wasn’t ready to call it quits. He figured he would stay around, but he would wait for Brone. He figured his friend would show up earlier, but he figured he was running later than usual. The light mage had gone around trying to figure out what to do while he waited for the dwarf to show up. His movements led him to a shop where they sold tea with tapioca in. This was different and when he tried the tea, he would buy one for Renji because he knew that the Exceed would like it. Renji was surprised about what he was drinking but enjoyed the taste and how different it was.

When they had gotten their beverage, it was time to go meet Brone where they said they were going to meet. He hoped that he would get there in time. The light mage would make it to the location where he and Brone were to meet. He looked around trying to find the dwarf, but he couldn’t spot him. He was probably missing something so he kept searching through the crowd to see if he would see him around there.

Brone Heavyaxe had a large closet, but most of his clothing are the same, even for formal wear, so this evening, the dwarf dons his usual outfit beneath his armor while his axes hang on his back. He made with way through the crowds that move about from stall to stall. The lights from the lacrimas and lanterns were beautiful as well as the designs and ornaments. The dwarf had only made it twenty steps before his attention was drawn to the nearest food-stand. He stacked a plate with fried squid, noodles and other odd foods he had always wanted to try.

As Brone ate, he scouted the area looking for his friend. He recalled Yuurei had told him to meet at a specific spot, the only problem was that the dwarf forgot what the spot was, so his best chance was to randomly walk around the festival while he hoped they would bump into each other. At first this was tedious and annoying, but after his second plate, he was calmed down and began enjoying himself.

Eventually he would spot the signature white hair on the head of a young man and the orange fur of a feline, "I got lost" is all Brone said as he approached Yuurei.

Yuurei was waiting for Brone, and it was taking quite some time. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but he figured something happen to his friend. Still, it was Brone, so who would be the one to bother him? He wasn’t sure and he wanted to go and search for him. Then at the same time, he felt that if he left, Brone would show up. It was a dilemma he was in, so he decided to wait. After a good while of waiting though, the light mage would see that Brone had finally made his appearance. He would see the plate in his hand, and he would laugh a bit. It would seem like he was enjoying himself at the festival by himself.

Yuurei would have a smirk on his face when he heard Brone say that he got lost.

“Yeah sure, you got lost. I see you started the activities without me. That would have been nice to eat some delicious food.” He said as he laughed a bit.

He was glad that his friend was enjoying his time here even though he got lost.

“Alright this is your night, so you take us where you want to go. We can do anything you want here. Whatever they have we can try as long as you want to.” He said to Brone.

Renji would hear the excitement in Yuurei’s voice, and he would smile. He was glad that his companion’s personality stood the same.

Brone continued to munch on his food, nodding at Yuurei as the half-elf spoke to him. Being given the speech of being able to do as he pleased, "I'm already doing that" he said with a full mouth, chewing and bits of food falling out. He looked about, seeing the colorful attire everyone was wearing and the interesting stalls and carts that drew the eyes easily, the dwarf shrugged, understanding that he would have a difficult time gaining self control. "Well I wonder what is there to do other than eat?" He asked before taking another bite, "Though I'm not complaining" he said as he started to walk over to a stall that had a table full of water-filled bowls, believing them to be a stand for deserts or drinks.

"Want to try your luck and win a prize?" the man behind the counter asked while pointing at the stuffed animals hanging above his head. Brone looked at the bowls of water and then to the ping pong balls by him and understood it was a game. He thought for a moment and nodded his head, all the while still chewing. After paying in coins, he was given three ping pong balls to which he then tossed. The first ball completely missed, the second hit the edge of a bowl, but bounced and hit the floor, and the third nearly went into a bowl, circling the rim before escaping and hitting the floor as well. Brone grunted in irritation.

Yuurei

Yuurei would hear what his friend said. He was indeed enjoying his time already. He found it interesting, but he was glad that his friend was able to do that. He was too carefree and honestly, he was happy about that. Still, they would start walking around, and while they were doing so something caught Brone’s interest. They would walk over to the game and Renji would look at the guy as if he was suspicious.

It would seem like Brone was going to play the game, and while he tried it would seem like he wasn’t able to win. He almost had it, so Yuurei moved over to the guy and paid for three more ping pong balls. The light mage would hand it over to Brone, and he would smile at him.

“You got this, just remember what you did last, and try and toss it into the bowl. If it hits the bowl, it won't go in.” He warned his friend.

He would have to just toss it into the bowl and directly into the water. The man would hear the tip Yuurei gave his friend but knew that was harder than he made it seem. The light mage was used to these types of games in Hosenka and knew some of them were rigged or nearly hard to do.

Brone moved aside, letting Yuurei step up. He thought the light mage would take a turn, but instead he just purchased three more ping pong balls for the dwarf while giving him a tip. "That's all, huh?" he said sarcastically while looking at the clutter of bowls. Yuurei had said 'remember what you did last' which was easier said than done, the dwarf just tossed them without thinking, the last ball was just dumb luck. He held the balls in his right hand while he took another bite of his bundle of food that he held in his left hand. He thought for a moment and figured he would try tossing them instead of just throwing.

The first ball was tossed underhanded and it flew up then plopped down hitting the rim of one of the bowls before bouncing off and hitting the floor. Brone grunted before trying again, the second ball flew up and came down. It fell into a bowl without even touching the rim, but instead of it hitting water, the bowl was empty, so it hit the bottom of the bowl and bounced right out of the container before landing on the floor, "WHAT!?" Brone shouted.

"Yeah bowl are completely empty, but good try" the man behind the counter pointed out.

In the heat of anger, Brone threw the last ball as hard as he could, the ball shattered five bowls, releasing the water and spilling onto the floor, "My shoes!" the man behind the counter cried out as he tried to get away from the escaping water.

"Hah!" Brone pointed to his last ping pong ball that was rolling within the remains of a shattered empty bowl, but within the next moment, it rolled out of the crack and fell onto the floor. The dwarf yelled and slammed his fist into counter, leaving a hole with a long crack that ran from end to end. Heated, the dwarf walked off to find something else to take his attention.

Yuurei would watch Brone try to get the balls in once again. He would watch him fail two times, and it would seem like that was enough to anger him. The next thing he saw would surprise him as he watched the bowls break with just a ping pong ball. The owner of the stand would see this, and his mouth would drop when he saw this. He was angry as well, but Brone’s anger made him nervous to approach the two of them.

The Nephilim would rub the back of his head when he saw what happened. There was a hole on the counter now, and Yuurei would apologize as he would walk away to catch up to Brone. He would laugh a bit as it seemed like he was looking for something else to do.

“You almost had it? I didn’t think you would take that approach. Poor guy didn’t see that coming.” He laughed when he said this to Brone.

“I should have played if you were going to destroy the game.” He laughed wondering what they were going to do next.

He figured he would play after allowing Brone to play whatever was next.

Brone muttered under his breath as he finished the last bit of food and tossed the paper container into a nearby trashcan. He clenched his fists in anger and stormed off. Yuurei then caught up, "'Poor guy' my foot, he rigged the whole damn thing, swindling people for their money, I doubt he would have been able to get a ball into any of those bowls, the whole damn thing could be enchanted with some kind of cheat magic or something!" the dwarf vented without even stopping or looking at Yuurei, he just continued to stomp off, trying to find something that would take his attention from the nonsense he just dealt with.

He noticed a stand that was selling live crabs. A couple along with their child were in the prosses of deciding whether or not a crab would be a good exotic pet. Brone walked up to the vendor and handed him money, before the vendor could ask what crab he wanted, Brone just grabbed the nearest crab that was in the basket and plopped it into his mouth. Everyone, including the child, stared at the dwarf with open mouths as Brone just walked away while chewing. He was so angered that he didn't even know that it wasn't a food stand.

Yuurei would hear Brone vent, and he was right. The game was rigged, and barely anybody would be able to win unless they knew how to go against it. The light mage would nod though as he was correct. He would laugh at the end as he placed his hand over his head while they moved around.

“Yeah it is rigged. That’s how they make their money. I learned that the hard way and decided to learn how to beat the game. I should have gone second, but I didn’t know you were going to do that.” He would say this as Brone would head over to a stand.

Yuurei would watch what he would do next, and his mouth would drop from what happened next. That was a pet shop, but Brone was quick to buy a crab and place it in his mouth. He would start chewing and Yuurei was speechless. It would take him a second before he could speak to Brone.

“You know that was a pet shop, and you’re eating a potential pet” He said as he chuckled nervously as they were walking around.

Hearing Yuurei confirmed the game was rigged was enough for the dwarf to feel confident in his decision, "Serves him right then" and he continued to walk off, though when the half-elf pointed out the crab was a potential pet, Brone tried to shrug off the statement by saying "Tasted better as a snack" his brow was forming a bead of sweat, though no one seem to be trying to stop him for the act. He started looking around to see if there was anything he could use to change the subject, then he spotted a stand selling paper lanterns, so he quickly pointed it out as he darted for it.

The vendor was trying to explain how the lantern worked, but the dwarf didn't have the patience to listen, so when he heard 'tap the crystal' he just went for that; he touched the crystal that was suspended within the center of the paper lantern and it began to glow an orange color. The lantern then began to levitate and circle Brone, "See? A much better pet because it can follow you instead of tasting delicious" he said to Yuurei before paying the vendor and walking off to the next stand that caught his attention.

Yuurei kept walking and his friend kept chewing. It was quite a shock, to say the least. He didn’t think Brone would be quick to do that, but here he was. Still, he tried to play it off, and soon enough he would avert Yuurei attention elsewhere. He figured he would do whatever Brone wanted to do. It was what he had planned to do from the beginning. When they got there, he and Renji would hear what the vendor had to say.

The light mage figured he would buy one as well and felt bad that the vendor couldn’t say anything to them. When they purchased everything Yuurei would press the crystal as well so that his friend wasn’t alone with a floating lantern around them.

“I guess, I mean I think the crab would have tasted better if you cooked it and it wasn’t still alive.” He said as he laughed a bit.

“I don’t ever want to be alone with Brone when he’s upset. I might lose an arm.” Renji said to him as he had a huge smirk on his face.

"Aye, I agree that the crab would have tasted better cooked, but it's not like ye can't eat it raw, like for example, sushi is raw fish" he told Yuurei as he was tapping his floating lantern, gently pushing it away and watching it slowly float back to him.

"And don't worry about ye arm, I don't eat cat raw" Brone chuckled as he winked at Renji. Suddenly, a loud voice came from the speaker lacrimas that were levitating high above certain stands throughout the area. The announcer stated the fireworks display will begin within ten minutes and instructed people who wanted to view the show would need to head to the north end of the festival.

"Oh, that'll be a sight to see" Brone said as he began to make his way north, accidently shoving people to the side, apologizing to some, but grunting at others who had refused to make way out of curtesy. Eventually he would get to a courtyard that was barely illuminated, though not a problem to him given that he is able to see just fine in the dark. People began to gather and slowly the lanterns that illuminated the area was dim. Brone was excited for the show because fireworks weren't a common spectacle for creatures such as dwarves given they normally make their homes within mountains or hills, so the sky was barely a focus for them.

Yuurei heard his words, and he wasn’t wrong. Still, in the end, sushi was cleaned up even if it was raw. That crab could have been dirty, had something wrong, and a bunch of other things. Of course, he wasn’t going to get into that with Brone.

“I guess if you think about it like that, but trust me things can go wrong.” He said to Brone as he looked over to Renji.

“So you would eat me, but I would have to be dead. Just great Yuu, don’t let me be with him alone.” He said as he glared at Brone.

It wouldn’t take long for an announcement to be made, which got Yuurei’s attention. That would be nice to see, and he was down with it. It seemed like Brone was excited to see that as he was moving ahead of Yuurei. The berserker would follow behind him as he would create a path for him. When they got to the courtyard, they were few of many who started to show up. He could see the dim lights multiplying as people had lanterns of their own.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen fireworks I think.” He said as he was trying to recall, but couldn’t remember.

Brone looked about, understanding the courtyard was perfect, allowing a large gathering of people to view the fireworks display, and with the dimming of the surrounding lights, it'll allow people to see the colors of the fireworks more vividly, "I've seen fireworks once" Brone told Yuurei as his friend caught up to him, "About a year ago after I returned to Fiore from visiting home" he looked up to the night sky, wondering how long before they start the show, "I was in the middle of a quest when I stumbled upon an event celebrating something, honestly I don't remember what the celebration was about, but when they started the fireworks display, I had to stop and watch" Brone's eyes twinkled as he thought back to that evening, how he had sat on the edge of a bridge in awe of the colors that came from the explosions that dotted the sky, "It was beautiful, I never seen colors used in such a way, something we dwarves don't see and barely hear about".

The lanterns continued to dim in rhythm to the countdown timer, allowing people to know when the show will begin, everyone was standing around, looking up to the sky, waiting for the colors to paint the sky.

Yuurei would hear him and it would seem that he had seen it while he was on one of his quests. It was not something he could say he could relate to. It would seem like he was impressed by the scenery back then. It just meant that he would be impressed with what he was going to see today.

“Well, I’m glad you were able to experience that. I hope you will get to enjoy more of it today.” He said to Brone.

“Well, this is going to be enjoyable, but I wondered what we should be doing after this.” He said to them both.

Yuurei would look around to see the people gathering around. It would seem like they were here to see the same thing. The light mage would look up into the sky as he was waiting for things to happen. How long was it going to take before things would start here?

Brone clapped a comforting hand onto Yuurei's shoulder while giving him a smile, assuring him that they both will be enjoying the fireworks display, not just him. Eventually, the lights of the surrounding lanterns had fully vanished and it seemed that the courtyard had fallen silent, everyone was cast in a silhouette before the first firework was shot into the sky. The whistling pulled in everyone's attention. Everyone looked up to watch the rocket of yellow light soar into the sky before exploding into a shower of golden light, everyone then cheered as more fireworks were let loose. They ranged from a variety of colors of blue, red, yellow and mainly green, everyone was dazzled by the display, including Brone. He thought back to the moment he first seen a fireworks display and he can confirm that it was better the second time.

The smell of ash and gunpowder was in the air, but that didn't deter people from the dazzling spectacle. The colors dotted the sky and for a moment, Brone had to look away, not use to such light, he then noticed that not was the courtyard drawn into the display, but people within the aisles of the stall lines were drawn to the show, all were looking and pointing toward the sky. What a wonderful sight for all of them.

He would feel Brone’s hand on his shoulder and soon enough he would see that the area around them would become dark. He would look up to the sky and the first firework would appear into the sky. It was beautiful and amazing causing his eyes to widen. He didn’t see anything like that in the sky before, and it was as if there were stars being thrown into the sky before dispersing. It was nice and it would seem like he wasn’t the only one who enjoyed this scenery.

He kept looking up to the sky as he was enjoying the second fireworks. It would show color this time, this one of a variety of colors. His eyes were glued to them as he kept watching it all.

Renji would do the same thing. It was nice to see something different every now and then. To him, it was entertainment he was seeing and one that he could enjoy more often.

“This is amazing. It looks like stars.” He said to Brone.

Yuurei would continue to enjoy the remaining time with Brone watching the fireworks go off into the sky. It would seem like a lot of people would do the same thing.

The dwarf smiled wide, this was an event he wanted to show his family and hoped one day he would share this moment with them, though he knew it was prove difficult, the dream was a comforting thought. "Aye, looks like exploding stars" Brone replied to Yuurei's statement without looking away. The show was too amazing to pull his attention away. Most of the festivals patrons had gathered at the courtyard until there was barely any space left. At one moment, the fireworks had stopped, and just when everyone thought the show had finished, the finale caught everyone by surprise, a dozen rockets shot into the sky and lit up the sky above with an array of colors as if it was pure day time.

Everyone cheered as the show came to a close. People poured out of the courtyard to get away from the ash and gunpowder smoke that filled the area, but to Brone, this reminded him of home.
