The once pristine air of the majestic land of Joya had grown stagnant and foul. Where brilliant azure skies had stretched overhead, ominous dark clouds now swirled, echoing the turmoil brewing below. Joya, renowned across the lands for its ethereal beauty, artistic heritage, and courageous people, teetered on the brink of ruin.

A creeping rot, a corrupting decay, had seeped into the heart of the nation. The tyrannical Shogun and their insidious allies had slowly poisoned Joya; their cruel edicts and never-ending greed withered the spirit of the people, turning vibrancy to gloom and sapping away hope. Fear had crippled and hollowed out the populace as the Shogun's twisted desires bled Joya dry of its resources, culture, and lifeblood.

Yet, embers of defiance still glimmered. In a small seaside village, a young Rune Knight named Tōga tended to his boat, making final preparations before casting off at dawn. His jaw was set with determination; his homeland cried out for salvation, and he would answer its call. Born of Joya, Tōga's loyalty and love for the land ran deeper than his veins. He would be the cauterizing fire to purge the infection ruining his people.

When word had spread that an organized movement was forming to liberate Joya, Tōga's involvement was never in doubt. To his surprise, however, his commanding officer had not only approved his participation but declared his own intentions to join the impending clash. This was no longer just Tōga's personal fight; with comrades old and new at his side, they would unitedly stand against the spreading grim taint of the Shogun's chokehold.

As Tōga's boat slipped from the harbor into the shimmering turquoise waters beckoning beyond, he closed his eyes, mentally preparing himself for the trials to come. He focused on his dreams of a free and vibrant Joya, memories of its verdant hills and kind people motivating him for the struggle ahead. The light of his courage, his anger, his hope burned hotter than any fire he could conjure with his magic.

By nightfall, their fleet had reached the fabled shores of Joya. As the last molten glow of sunset faded from the sky, the cloying stench of corruption invaded Tōga's senses. The Shogun's poison ran deep here, but it would go no further. Drawing his internal flames, Tōga strode forth, flames dancing in his eyes. It was time to cure his homeland by cutting out the disease at its heart. All across Joya, others were gathering with the same blazing purpose, united in camaraderie and cause. Together, they would redeem the majestic land they loved, no matter the cost.

Kon

Joya was a place where Kon held many strong and mixed beliefs. He had taken up residence there for a few years following the demonic incursion learning the language and enjoying the culture, however since taking up his new body he had become loathed by many of the community making him feel once more like an outsider. This was made more complicated with his new position within the Rune Knights or more specifically the way the new leadership within the country had effectively seemingly dismissed any intention by wishing to remain within a part of the organisation by forming their own—something which he could personally respect though something he resented from a personal level. It had truly made his life increasingly harder with his role as the General not opening the same doors as it did in the various other countries that continued to be protected largely by the Magic Council and by extension the Rune Knights. The real question was at this point though just why was he here if this new head of state, some unknown called Mishikio?, had sought to relieve them. From what he had been informed this transition within the country had been less than peaceful with a large portion of the country taking up arms.

Whilst he wanted to remain neutral in these affairs it did seem to be a perfect chance to kill two birds with one stone, first and foremost improve relations between the factions as well as test the new recruits who were accompanying him during this excursion. Surprisingly despite this desired separation from the Rune Knights there had indeed been a number of Joyan citizens that had signed up to become recruits. “Perhaps things weren’t going so well on that front…” He thought to himself as he scanned his surroundings, a humble fisher’s village just off a river. All around him were members and prospective recruits busy at work whilst he overlooked everything.

Joya's majestic history stretched back through the ages, far beyond what ink and parchment could contain. Its genesis was lost to the mists of time. This divine land boasted snow-capped mountains piercing the heavens, shimmering waters that met the horizon, and primeval forests cloaked in legend. To capture Joya's full splendor would require volumes - epics filled with lyrical verse recounting its ancient glaciers and winding rivers, its mist-veiled valleys and flowered plains. Its beauty was matched only by its antiquity.

Over eras untold, kingdoms had risen and crumbled on this hallowed ground. Joya was home to myths and monsters, heroes and gods. Its rich legacy wove through the spirit of its people like threads in an endless tapestry. Here, the present was ever built on foundations countless generations deep. Every cliff and meadow, castle and cavern echoed with whispered tales of ages past. Joya was more than earth and stone - it was the stuff of legend, a living monument to the glory of a bygone epoch. To walk its sweeping landscapes was to step into fable, to immerse oneself in wonders both storied and unseen. Joya was a realm rooted in eons of mythic history, its origins transcending memory and song.

Yet for all its mythic grandeur, Joya had known a darker present. The inexorable tides of time brought both wonder and ruin in their cycles, just as the fickle moon waxed and waned. So too did the reigns of men follow arcs of glory and decay. Having been long estranged from his homeland, Tōga returned to find much changed. The shogunate and its allies had seized power through intrigue and avarice, bleeding the common folk to enrich themselves. Only now, after so long, had the courage arisen to challenge their cruel rule.

Tōga's memories of childhood were etched by the hardship and fear brought by the shogun's iron-fisted doctrine. The populace learned quickly - obey or face harsh reprisal upon themselves and their kin. It was acquiescence or suffering. Now answering Master Mishiko's call, Tōga had come home, though barely recognizing the land. The Rune Knights' mission was his sole tether to this altered realm. But wayward or not, Joya was still his birthplace, its people his own. If revolution stirred, Tōga would lend his sword. The time had come to paint a new chapter in Joya's saga - with liberation, not blood.

With a solemn sigh, the dragon slayer began his preparations, isolated from the assembled Rune Knights. Amidst the sea of armored soldiers, veterans and green recruits alike, Tōga's pink hair and youth marked him as an oddity. Known for his infectious energy and zeal, today he radiated a cool, grave air - a stark contrast to the cheer he'd shown back in Era. The levity had departed. This was serious.

Taking equipment to ready his body and papers to steel his mind, Tōga sat alone on a supply crate. The boisterous comrade of before was gone, replaced by a silent, contemplative warrior. As the troops readied for war around him, the dragon slayer focused inwards, mentally and physically girding himself for the clash ahead. No more beaming grins or lively banter - just solemn preparation.

Though he was alone, isolation in a world full of life was as uncommon as breathing water. By peer chance, or divine intervention, he wasn’t too far from the General himself. A few footfalls or a brief glance would conveniently put both in either's sights.

Kon

Recognizing that every action that he would make at least for the foreseeable future would be watched with the eyes of a hawk whether it was from the Magic Council, the community at large or some other organization looming in the shadows, Kon would not be given much time to relax much less stretch his wings in this new environment. Instead, he would garner up as many troops as were currently prepared on the coastline and begin rallying out orders as though he was drilling them for war. Arguably it was a war but that for the hearts and minds of the Joyan people which had been swayed into the new illustrious shogun who had replaced the old despot. Whether or not it was a positive thing remained to be seen, inner turmoil was commonplace within a country changing rulers but conflict within the borders was only one aspect that they would have to consider. Though the country was isolated from their neighbours by a great valley of mountains on all sides, it had not prevented hostiles from pillaging and raiding the rich countryside within its territory. Of course, these acts had not been performed on a mass scale since the days of the old empire and would be incredibly unlikely to occur once again. And yet he still considered the ramifications of what was taking place.

Recognizing an absence of both high-quality metalwork and men in the area, Kon set to work organizing the platoon that had come with him to set up a makeshift smithy near a river leading to the coast. A time-consuming and energy-intense process that would take weeks to properly construct from scratch but with the combined efforts of the platoon and his own hands guiding and manipulating the materials they had brought with them and those around him, they were able to shape and bend the stone, wood and metal found in the surrounds into a respectable blacksmith with the architecture resembling their Joyan counterparts with some flair associated with Talaz Lagaar design such as everlasting lights and a forge press capable of combining even the most resistant materials together into a single alloy. As much of an art form as it was a profession, during the construction, Kon had called for a series of blacksmiths from both close and afar who would be employed under the Rune Knights to service the area for the duration of his station within the country with prospects for further employment at a later date.

As the sun would eventually sink below the horizon, the Rune Knight encampment was abuzz with activity. Warriors polished their blades and donned their armor, preparing body and mind for the coming battle. Strategists huddled in tents, voices low as they plotted troop movements on worn maps. Blacksmiths worked tirelessly at their forges, hammering out the weapons and tools needed for the fight ahead.

In the quiet corners of the camp, the spies made their own preparations. Tōga’s comrades worked in isolation, faces grim with purpose. They would be the first to slip past enemy lines, gathering intelligence to aid the Rune Knights' advance. As night descended, they melted into the shadows, silent as ghosts. The very air seemed charged with anticipation for the pivotal day to come, when the Knights would march forth to reclaim Joya's freedom.

A swell of pride rose in Tōga's chest as he surveyed the camp. Every soul was united by a shared purpose - to liberate their homeland. Though words went unspoken, he could feel their steadfast resolve radiating as warmly as his own dragonfire magic. With quiet footfalls Tōga approached the general, knowing this meeting was pivotal. The time had come to make introductions and align expectations, turning disparate factions into a cohesive force. For many this was merely a mission, but for Tōga it meant everything.

In the days ahead Joya would become a battlefield soaked in fire and blood. But Tōga refused to let it fall. Not here, where his roots ran deeper than any invader could grasp. Where others saw a coming war, he saw his people, standing strong as oak. And he would do whatever it took to shelter their spark through the storms ahead. Come what may, this land would not burn - not under his watchful eye.

Tōga emerged from the ocean of knights and tents, making his way toward the bellows and clangor of the smithy. Kon stood amidst the smoke and sparks, barking orders as his platoon of forgers shaped red-hot steel.

"Excuse me, sir!" Tōga called out over the din. "I'm Tōga - I'll be with the spy unit for the mission ahead. I wanted to thank you for standing on the frontlines with us."

He tried to maintain formality, though his casual nature made it a challenge. Still, he hoped his sincerity showed through. These men were the backbone of their forces, toiling away to equip the coming battles. Victory would be forged on their anvils as much as the battlefield. The ring of hammer on metal gave testament to the grit and spirit that lived in each knight that joined this fight. And though Tōga served in the shadows, he took pride in standing shoulder-to-shoulder with soldiers of all roles. United, they would reclaim their homeland's freedom - no matter the fires and storms ahead.
