Yuurei

Yuurei made his way towards Rush Valley. The mining town would see the giant's fist and he would hope that he and Haru had gotten there before any casualties could be made. Of course, that wouldn’t be the case. The group that he led would be riding different mounts as they had to keep up with their leader. The Nephilim could see the destruction of the houses that the giants had created. There were people who had been crushed by the structured around them or trampled by the giants. Those were the fortunate people who died as there were others being chewed and eaten by these monsters.  

“We got to kill all the giants that are here Haru. If we don’t then there will be more death.” He said as he would move at full speed.

There would be a giant holding a person from the town. He would see that the guy was about to be a meal for the giant. The berserker had his gauntlet readied already as he figured he would increase his speed and strength using his magic. His hands would open and two magic circles would appear above his palm and the stars would come out of the magic circle. Yuurei would allow the stars to go inside of him and he would become even stronger and faster.

He would make his way straight towards the giant’s face and he would punch its face, and he would knock the head off of its body as the body would fall and hit the ground. Yuurei would catch the man who was falling, and he would put him on the ground as he would run away and hopefully to safety. Yuurei would look around in the air as he would hear shouting and crying out loud.

“We’re going to have to go all out to kill all these giants quickly.” He said to Haru.

Haru clung on tight to the light mage, careful not to ruffle his wings in case she caused them to fall to the ground. The neko had a personal investment in the town of Rush Valley, it would do her no good to see the place be turned to nothing but rubble. She hoped her benefactor was safely tucked away in a bunker somewhere or had escaped before the giants had reached the town.

Her golden eyes widened as she spied the giant Yuurei was rushing towards, picking up more speed and power as he cast his spells midair. Soaring he'd crash his fist into the giant's face, causing it to come crashing down, crushing a few buildings along with it. Before Haru had an opportunity to scream about the citizen falling, Yuurei was already racing to grab them. Flying steadily down and placing them safely on the ground.

"Roger." She nodded, letting Yuurei know she had heard and acknowledged his words, she'd gracefully leap off of his flying form and onto a nearby rooftop of a building that was still mostly intact, "I'll distract them." She claimed, drawing both her weapons as she began to charge them with her mana, pulling back both hammers and slinging two shots towards the closest of the giants.

The bullets themselves did very little to harm the monster but it had indeed been enough to draw its attention towards the demi-human. Sluggishly it turned,  raising a first as it slowly began to swipe down towards her and the building she stood upon. Racing off she'd pick up speed before leaping over to another building. Hoping her little tactic had given enough of an opening for the light mage to cave its face in as he had done the other one.

Yuurei

Yuurei would feel her get off him, and he looked at her as he was hoping he didn’t make the wrong decision by having her off him. Still, it seemed like she had gotten a giant’s attention, which meant it would be easy for him to pick that monster off. He would fly through the sky quickly as his eyes widen when he saw Haru almost got hit by the damn giant. He would pull his arm back and he would swing with his all might on the back of the giant’s head. When he connected the blow, he would find his hand stuck in the brains of the giant as it would fall to the ground and onto the streets. He would pull his hand out before he would go down with the giant, and he would fly up to the area and on a rooftop.

He would disperse his form because he felt like he was draining too much of his mana in that form. It was too much, and he didn’t think it was good to use in battle. While he looked around Yuurei would see that there were some of his scouts were being torn apart by the giants. He would suck his teeth as he didn’t like that this was happening.

“Alright I had to lay off on the angelic form for right now. Still, we got to push forward.” He said to Haru as he was on another rooftop than she was.

With the immediate threat out of the way, she'd let her eyes scan over the township from her rooftop vantage point. The scene that was unfolding was unlike anything the demi-human had experienced in her life. She'd been beaten up by fighters sure, but they didn't tear her apart limb from limb or try to swallow them whole. Her stomach lurched at the sight as she struggled to keep her breakfast down. Her heart raced as adrenaline surged through her. She was always down for a fair fight, but this all seemed so one-sided.

Even with the light mage's strength and exceptional abilities, the sheer number of giant beings that roamed throughout the town left her terrified that they wouldn't make it out of this alive. She could feel her arms shaking as she watched the scene before her. It wasn't until she heard Yuurei's voice, she'd snap out of her thoughts, her ears twitching as she regained focus on their duty.

Haru nodded, about to leap over to another rooftop as she felt the ground rumble from where the first giant had fallen. Her golden eyes widened as she saw the humanoid creature start to rise from the ground, the previous punch had knocked it over, but not out. Firing off her weapons, she'd aim for the usual weak point for most creatures, the eyes sockets. Despite her shots piercing directly through its eyes, it seemed unphased as its body continued to limply rise and tower over her once more. Her bullets did little more than to irritate it as it turned to stare in the feline's direction.

"YUUREI!" She'd cry out to get his attention, hoping he hadn't already ditched her completely just yet.

Yuurei would look at Haru as she was moving to another rooftop, but when all of that happened, he could see that the giant he had put down was getting back up. His eyes widen when he saw this as he would hear Haru screaming for him. Of course. Yuurei wouldn’t allow anything to happen to her, or at least he would try. His jog turned into a full sprint soon enough as he was making his way towards the monster that was trying to make Haru a nice snack.

He would lariat the neck of the creature as fast and as strong as he could as he leaped towards it. His gauntlet and his arm hitting the giant with so much force behind it that he would tear through its neck and have it come right off. Yuurei would find himself falling to the floor though as didn’t have his wings. The Nephilim’s momentum would have him going towards a house though, where he would push off it and descended to the ground before rolling on the ground. He would look around to see if he was safe, but another giant would come from the side.

This one was running, and it would kick Yuurei unintentionally as he would send flying into one of the buildings. He would cough up blood with that hit as the giant stopped running to look down to see its next prey. It had felt the small guy and was making his way towards Yuurei. He would fall to the ground as he was coughing a bit and he would chuckle because he saw the bastard coming to him. The light mage would get up from the ground quickly as he would look at the monster.

“I don’t think sizer matters here, but you seem stupid enough not to understand, so come at me.” He said as he would get ready to take its legs.

Haru barely had time to think with everything happening so fast around her, one minute Yuurei was on the rooftop next to her and the next he was taking down one of the gigantic creatures only to disappear into the streets below. Her attention turned to the monster that was now charging down towards where the light mage had fallen only to stop and stare at the ground. Had it spotted him?

The ranger raised her twin pistols once more, sending a pair of blasts towards the neck of the creature, figuring if she could decapitate it perhaps it would kill it. Despite her best efforts, the bullets barely managed to put a dent into the creature's flesh. However, as she watched it rapidly began to heal over. They regenerate!?! It completely ignored her attempts to distract it, as she watched the creature bend down in an attempt to pick the light mage up, most likely planning to devour him.

Meanwhile, she could hear the screams of citizens and scouts alike getting ripped to shreds as they tried to run or fight just to survive the onslaught of titanic sized humanoids. Haru took a deep breath as she released her inner adrenaline junkie, rather than letting the stress and anxiety get the best of her, she controlled it. The neko became laser-focused as she once more charged her weapons this time with as much magical power as she possibly could muster.

"Just die already." Haru growled as she fired. With its back to her she'd aim for the nape of its neck, she sent both of the two large piercing shots directly into the beast, causing it to release an ear-piercing scream that could be heard throughout the valley as it started to fall forwards, tumbling towards Yuurei.

Yuurei

Yuurei watched the giant trying to grab him, but it wouldn’t come to that. It would seem that it was falling towards him instead. He heard the noise coming from the rooftop and it seemed like Haru had done something to get the better of the giant. That was good that she had taken it out, but bad either way as he couldn’t get stuck under this thing. The light mage decided to break off the head as it seemed like it was the only thing that work right now. He jumped in the direction of the falling giant and when they got close to each other he would break through the neck with the help of what Haru had done just a few seconds ago.

He was on top of the dead giant, and he could feel the heat that came from this. He would look around as he had to get on the rooftop, and he was looking for a way other than flying. It wouldn’t take long, but he would find a ladder and he would climb it as fast as he could. He would sigh as he would get to the top of the rooftop with a smile on his face.

“Thank you for the assist.” He said to Haru as he would hear more screaming coming from around them.

His face became serious as he was not happy with what these giants were doing and capable of. The Nephilim started moving towards the sound of the screams, and he would soon find another giant. This one was chewing a person and they were screaming with every bite and crunch from their bones. Yuurei was not excited about this and anger filled his face.

"Oh thank goodness..." Haru breathed a sigh of relief to hear and see that the light mage was okay despite all that had happened. But her relief was short-lived as the horrendous echoes of people being murdered all around still raged on. This was no time to be celebrating such a small victory when there were still so many creatures to deal with. Following after Yuurei, she leapt from rooftop to rooftop, even with the assistance of her gear, she couldn't entirely keep up with him, but she didn't really have to given that she wasn't about to willingly get into melee range of these creatures.

The horrific scene of the giant munching on someone sent shivers down the feline's spine as she raised her guns and shot two weak shots to distract its attention as she had done previously. It stopped mid-crunch, smiling as it went to lean down towards the silver maned demi-human, giving the light mage the perfect opening to get in behind and punch it, hopefully without too much hassle. It wasn't until she was diving away to dodge its hand that she remembered she hadn't mentioned that they regenerate yet to the light mage. Important, critical even, need to know information if they were going to deal with these monsters quickly.

"Decapitate it or it might heal like the last one!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, praying he'd hear her over all the sounds of carnage that was erupting around them. It was winding up for another swing at her. A proper explanation would have to wait.

Yuurei kept moving through the roof. He was ahead of Haru, but she was a shooter, and he was a fighter from close range. They complimented each other, which was a good thing for him. It wouldn’t take long, but they would be faced with another giant here. This time it was killing someone but would stop fighting when it felt attacked. That was good, but Yuurei was on the move. He wasn’t going to allow anything bad to happen to Haru. While he was leaped forward and onto the back of the giant, he would hear Haru’s words. He would nod as he knew there was a reason why he didn’t kill the thing last time.

Yuurei started throwing punches onto the neck of the giant as blood would start to come out and onto him. While he was doing this, the giant would scream, but before it could grab Yuurei, he would get to the bone and snap detach the head from the body as it would start falling down. Yuurei would push off the body and onto the roof as the blood that was on him would start to steam and disperse. He would no longer have blood on him, and the person that was in the monster’s mouth would no longer be moving.

Yuurei would scan the area and he would see that there were around three giants all together this time. It seemed like they were working as a group.

“It seems like this will never end.” He said to Haru as he cracked his knuckles and knew their job wasn’t ending just yet.

Another brief moment of relief as another giant had its head forcibly detached from its shoulders, removing it from the fight.

"Not with that attitude it won't." She'd chuckle nervously, trying to ease the tension a little with a lighthearted joke. The feline's sensitive ears picked up distance cheers that erupted from somewhere off in town. Glancing around she'd spot a few of Yuurei's scouts that had managed to take down one of the giant creatures on their own. That was good, while it was definitely still a struggle at least they seemed to be making some progress, which was far better than none at all. Still, they wouldn't be celebrating for long as they'd quickly move onwards towards their next target.

Her golden orbs would then turn in the direction Yuurei was staring off into as he spoke. Yet more of the monsters, this time a small group of them. This was definitely going to be more difficult to deal with than the single enemy at a time method they'd managed to get away with so far. With the knowledge that she would have to be more careful and utilise her range advantage to its fullest, she'd use the rooftops to skirt around them, leaving at least one building standing between herself and the mob of creatures before she began to fire.

They had been seemingly preoccupied with something, or someone, between them and hadn't taken much notice of her so far. Lining up both of her pistols, once more with the maximum amount of magical power they were capable of she'd fire both into the back of the neck of the nearest titan, causing it to cry out and began to fall to the ground, alerting the remaining to of her existence. Turning they release strange moan like sounds as they prepared to rush towards her, right through the building between herself and them.

Yuurei started running through the rooftops once again and this time knowing that there were three titans, the young man decided that it was best to use his angel form to defeat them. It would have been a mess taking one out and then falling to the ground. It would put him at a disadvantage. While running through the roofs, the wings would come back on him, and his eyes would turn golden. The running would soon become him flying as he saw Haru taking out one of the giants, which caused the other two to look at the immediate threat. He was glad that she was a ranged fighter because he didn’t have to truly worry about her.

Still, now that their attention was towards her, Yuurei would spin in the air before landing an ax kick right through the neck of the giant that was closest to him. He would watch as it would drop, which cause the last giant to look at what happened.

“There you go down to one.” He would say this to himself as the giant would reach out to grab him.

The Nephilim would find fly around the hand as he would dodge the grab as he was making his way towards the face of the giant. It would stretch its neck out quickly to try and grab a bite on Yuurei but would miss as the mage would go around the giant’s neck. He would soar straight through the creature’s neck though as he would snap the neck of the giant and detached it from the body.

The giant wouldn’t do anything, but it would find itself falling to the ground. Yuurei would land on a rooftop that was near where the giants died, and he would look down to the ground level. He would see people running away from the scene and he understood why these giants were here in the first place.

The light mage had moves that could take out multiple of these things at the same time, but how would they gather all of them in one spot?

“This place is cleared, if we can get a bunch of them in one spot I can use a spell to clear them from regenerating, or at least I hope it works.” He said to Haru as was looking around to see where to go next.

Haru huffed a little, it had been a while since she'd had to exert herself to this extent. Wiping the sweat off her brow, she'd nod at the light mage's words. He claimed he could easily finish them off if they somehow managed to lure them all into one giant group and she wasn't about to doubt him on that, he was far more powerful than most mages she'd met.

Still, the plan was easier said than done, although far from impossible, these creatures didn't seem to have much in the way of brain cells, making them easy targets for such a trap. However, there was no way the two of them alone could lure all the monstrous humanoids to one location on their own, they'd definitely need the assistance of Yuurei's scouts, or what groups remained of them.

"We should alert the others then, and try to bring them all towards the far end of town." Haru stretched her body, preparing for what was going to be one hell of a race for their lives. While these creatures didn't appear exceptionally athletic, their size and large strides made up for their lack of general mobility, "I'll grab the scouts in the west, and we'll bring what giants we can from there up to the north side of town." She declared, leaving the rest for him, figuring with his speed and ability to fly he should have no issues, alerting the rest of the scouts in the south and east of the plan.

She'd wait for his response first before taking off towards the west side of town, where he had last spotted a group of scouts felling one of the beasts as a team.

Yuurei

Yuurei would hear what she had said, and it would be the best thing for them to do. He was fine with her idea, and he would smile at her.

“Okay we can do that. I will go see the scouts in the east and south and tell them the plan. Once we get everyone over to the north of Rush Valley we will take them out and allow everyone to finish off any that didn’t get dealt a lethal blow.” He said to her.

Yuurei would fly off the rooftop and he would start making his way towards the east first. There he would see that there were a lot of giants around and he could see that some of his scouts had managed to deal blows to the giant. He would see a group of the scouts and he would make his way to them.

“I need you guys to gather every scout member on this side of the town and lead the giant’s to the north of the town. I’m going to take them out at once.” He said to them.

They were surprised that he would be able to do something like that but knew he wouldn’t be lying. Once Yuurei said this, he would fly off to the south. When he got to the south, he would do the same thing as he would make his way towards the north faster than anybody would be able to move. When he got there, he would see that there were giants there. He would get their attention and would move around the town to bring them all together as they were trying to grab him from above.

Haru would glance one last time to Yuurei, hoping it wouldn't be the last she'd see of him, their whole plan would go down the drain real quick if something were to happen to him. She didn't even want to think how they would deal with all the giant humanoids grouped together in one place without his magical power. Taking off over what rooftops remained of the town, she'd have to stop to steady herself a few times, nearly losing her footing on some loose tiles.

Eventually, she'd find the group of scouts that had been sent west, their numbers had definitely dwindled. After conversing with them, she'd find that while they had had a number of casualties, they'd also sent back quite a few injured to safety given that they couldn't fight anymore. With a nod of understanding, she'd explain their plan. There were a few worried and concerned looks, but they'd all listen to her, knowing that she worked closely with their captain.

They'd split into small teams, each going to find a nearby giant, grabbing its full attention and slowly luring them towards the north side of town. It took quite some time but eventually Haru and the scouts of the west would arrive at the destination, all they needed to do now was buy time and avoid being eaten while they waited for the rest to show up alongside Yuurei. Upon the light mage's arrival, there would be shouts of cheers and prays for him to finish it off quickly, as they rushed away from the giants they had managed to leave bundled together.

Yuurei would see a bunch of men and women riding their horses in his direction. He could see that behind them, there would be many giants chasing after them. This was good because it meant that their plan would work, they had to work. The light mage had watched them gather all the giants where he was located, and the light mage would move around the giants to gather their attention, and he would be able to do just that. He was close enough for them to try and reach him, but not enough for them to be able to take him out of the sky. Yuurei would open one hand as he stretched his arm out and a magical circle would appear in front of him. A huge light ball in the shape of a star would appear as he would drop it onto the giants below him.

They would see this and the first that would get hit would cause the explosion of the ball to start. The light mage would move eight meters into the sky and away from the giants. There would be a lot that would perish from the attack, but Yuurei had to make sure that they were done. His other arm had been stretched out as he was flying away and a magical circle would appear above where all the giants were located, and a bunch of light arrows would rain down on the giants as they were being struck down before they could find themselves regenerating if they could after the first attack.

When he was done, everybody would see that there were a lot of giants that had been taken out. Then there were those that were on the ground and slow regenerating. Yuurei would look at everyone as he would give out the order.

“Take out the remaining giants! Make sure that they don’t get up and go for their neck, it seems to be their weakness!” He shouted at them.

They would all do what they were ordered as they would take out whatever was left. Yuurei would fly towards a nearby rooftop that Haru was on. He would crack his neck because that was a job well done. They had protected Rush Valley, but at what cost.

The moment Yuurei flew up and released the large ball of light to explode, the screams and groans of the gigantic humanoids rung through the air as they cried out in pain. A few of their limbs were sent flying and while most had been completely taken care of in the blast, a few were left standing, but quickly finished off as the light mage's scouts rushed in to finish the job, cleaning up the mess.

Panting on the rooftop as Yuurei landed beside her, the demi-human would glance around double-checking that was all of them from the town. As the final creature was put to death, the town would grow silent. No more screams of terror, or roars of giants. Just an eery silence left in the wake of the chaos that had unfolded. Finally a true moment of reprieve. A moment to think about what just happened. Where had they come from? What was their purpose? These and many more questions flittered through the mind of the silver-haired feline as they prepared to return back to the guild to report on their battle at Rush Valley.
