Haru Akagi
The feline had been perusing through the local merchant stalls, trying to decide what to eat today. She had recently won a small double tournament had had enough funds to last her at least a couple of days and if she was a total scrouge perhaps even a week. Tapping her chin she picked up an apple, deciding it would do for her lunch as the bartering with the stall owner commenced. It would go back and forth for a while but eventually, she managed to get it for only half the jewels they had first requested of her.

With a smug grin, she'd take a bite. It wasn't overly sweet or juicy, fairly plain as far as apples go, but to the demi-human it was the most delicious thing she'd had in a good while. It definitely beat trying and failing to hunt only to end up starving for a few days. She hadn't wanted to resort to fighting to earn her money, but it seemed it was all she was good at. Leaving her little other options.

Waltzing through the markets, happily chewing on her fruit she'd gaze over what the rest of the market had to over until a small weapon stall caught her eye. She had spent a while in Baska but this was her first time seeing this particular seller, meaning they were probably a travelling merchant selling wares for a blacksmith elsewhere in the country. She wasn't one for using weaponry, her father had only forced her into fistfights, but that didn't mean she couldn't learn to wield a sword or something. Sidling over she'd bite her apple again, nearly finished it now as she gazed over the various weaponry available.

Yuurei

Yuurei was in Baska for only two reasons, he was doing a tournament around these parts. He enjoyed testing himself and it seemed like this was one of the best places to do it. The second reason was that he wanted to get to know this place of Fiore a bit more. He was able to do just that, and right now he figured he would gather some stuff for him and Renji to eat for later today. The light found himself by the merchant stalls as he was looking through the variety of things that they had around. It was hard to find something he wanted there as he felt that their products weren’t up to par here.

Renji would look through the stuff as well and the cat would drool to see the stuff that was here. He wasn’t wearing his outfit but would let his fur out to breathe and feel the air around.

“Yuu, what do you plan on cooking for us?” He asked him as they continued moving through the area.

“I plan on making us some fried fish, and then possibly some fries on the side. I know you love fish, so I figured it would be easier if we both ate that, but right now I don’t like any of the fish here.” He said as he continued looking around and hoping someone had some fresh fish.

Haru had been busily scrutinising the weapons for quite a while only to sigh and step away. She couldn't afford them even if she really wanted them. Food was much more important if she was going to survive another week. Tossing her core in the trash, she'd rest her hands behind her head with a yawn. The silver-haired demi-human had been considering a little afternoon catnap when something caught her eyes.

"It couldn't be..." She muttered, staring at the young silver-haired male browsing through the marketplace, an orange feline upon his shoulder. They certainly matched the appearance of those from her hazy memories, albeit a little older looking. She was a little uncertain but had found herself unconsciously beginning to follow them, keeping a small distance between herself and the pair. She'd stop a couple of stalls away whenever they paused, occasionally throwing small glances their way every so often.

The more she followed, the less she doubted herself. Just how many silver-haired males with ginger cats could there be? It had to be them, right? All this time she had been searching for them, yet they had managed to find her without even trying. Now only one problem remained. How did she go about approaching them?

Yuurei

Yuurei kept moving through the markets as he was getting frustrated with the merchants that were here. He ruffled his hair as he was going through the stall and cursing, but in a whisper where he could only hear it. He would sigh to calm down as he would make his way to the next stall. There he would smell the fish there, and he would have a smile on his face. This was perfect, the fish was fresh here and it seemed like they sold potatoes as well.

“Finally, a good one.” He said as he looked over to the merchant.

The merchant smiled at him as he would nod and the two of them knew what he meant.

“Can I get three fish, and five potatoes please.” He said to the man and he would be quick to bag the potatoes, and wrap the fishes that Yuurei wanted.

The light mage would buy them all and he would bow slightly as he started walking away from the area. Yes, he did notice he was being followed, I mean if he didn’t then he could have been stabbed or died a long time ago in Hosenka.

The young man had begun to seem a little flustered as he continued to peruse the stalls until finally, he found what he had evidently been looking for. Fish? Bit of a strange choice, considering it was not what Baska was known for, the potatoes definitely made sense though. The golden-eyed beauty sighed to herself, well if he got what he came for he would be leaving shortly. Meaning her window of opportunity was closing. Figuring it was now or never she'd walk briskly towards him.

"Excuse me!" She'd call out, trying to garner his attention, once she had it, she'd catch up and furrow her brow suddenly unsure of herself, "I apologise if this seems out of the blue but, have you perchance ever been to Hosenka?" she asked in a serious manner. Haru figured this question would help get straight to the point and confirm her suspicions without sharing too many details in case she had been incorrect in her assumptions.

Yuurei

Yuurei only got a few feet away from the merchant he had just bought from before the woman had finally approached him. He would turn around to look at her up and down. She looked like she had it rough and he wasn’t talking about just the past few days. He could see that she had been living day by day and even then, she was still pretty. It wasn’t what he was here for right now, and she had asked him a question. A fairly simple one if he had thought to himself.

“You don’t have to apologize, but I’ve been to Hosenka plenty of times actually. I think I did a lot of good things there.” He paused to look at her reaction when he said that he had been there.

He made sure to be on guard, but at the same time keep himself with a smile and the friendly feeling he brought to the table.

“Do I look like a guy who did something bad to you or your family in Hosenka?” He asked because if she was looking for someone who wronged her family, then he might be the guy.

There was also the fact that if that was so, then she had come from a family tied with the gangs that he had taken out in Hosenka.

Haru felt herself grow lighter as he confirmed he had been there a number of times, meaning he was more than likely the man she had been searching for. Her ears pricked up and her tail twitched nervously, however, as he asked if he seemed like someone that did something bad to her family. Did he often make enemies with people from her hometown? Well, considering the people she knew from there that wouldn't necessarily be a difficult feat.

"Ah no, well, I guess yes, but no." She answered in a rather confusing manner but waved her hands frantically as if to deny his words. While technically he had harmed her father, that hadn't been a bad thing from her perspective. He had definitely earned himself that beating.

"Er..." She glanced nervously around, they were still in the marketplace, a place filled to the brim with eyes and ears, "Would you mind if we found a more private place to talk?" she smiled, composing herself a little. Once they were away from the crowd she'd feel much more comfortable opening up and asking him further questions.

Yuurei

Yuurei would notice something about her, and he would look over at it because it was the first time he saw it from a human. It looked like she was excited or nervous or something in between because her tail moved around like Renji did when he was getting food from him. When she answered him, he rubbed the back of his head as he knew he didn’t do bad things to people's families unless they were bad people themselves. It couldn’t have been him, so he was about to deny everything until she had asked him if they could talk in a quiet place.

He bent over slightly so his face was close to hers and he would look at her trying to figure her out.

“A place more private to talk? I’ll say yes, but please don’t try to stab me, I was planning on making you food if you kept following me around.” He said with a smile on his face as he would stand up tall and start walking around.

He moved through the merchant market as they would look at Yuurei and some of them would wave at him as they knew who he was. The berserker would do the same thing as he kept moving forwards.

“The name is Yuurei Starlight and this is my friend Renji.” He said to her as Renji looked at her.

“Nice to meet you, are you part cat by the way?” Renji asked as she was so cute and his heart couldn’t help but beat fast when he looked at her.

The feline woman nodded in understanding, while she had not even the slightest incline to harm him, even if she had wanted to, she didn't even have a stabbing instrument, so shanking him would be completely out of the question. However, he could not blame the male for being a little hesitant as he had no way of knowing that her intentions were of a pure nature. She found herself a little lost for words at the mention of him making her food though. It wasn't like she had been sneaky in the way she had stalked him, but to think he not only noticed but also thought to his stalker a favour? He was a little strange.

Following beside him, she would note that he seemed rather popular with the locals. Despite living in the area for quite a while at this point, most people tended to avoid greeting her as she had more refused to ever respond to them, eventually causing them to give up. It wasn't that she wasn't on friendly terms with them, she simply didn't see the need for useless pleasantries unless she needed something from someone.

"Haru." She replied simply in response to being given their names, her eyes dancing between the young male and the talking cat, "Um... Yes." She paused, a little taken aback, her mother had spoken of exceeds before but this was her first encounter with one. He was rather adorable. "My mother is what was known in her homeland as a nekomata." She continued, "Which actually brings me to what I wanted to talk to you about." She glanced around nervously once more, this man more than likely held the answer to the question that had been haunting her for the past year, but now that she had the chance to ask, the fear of his response scared her. What if it wasn't what she so desperately wanted to hear?

Yuurei

Yuurei heard her name as it reminded him of his birth and the time of year when he enjoyed besides summer. Renji’s tail wagged a lot hearing this from Haru as he was excited to know there were more felines around him. While they were walking out of the merchant district, Yuurei would look around the area and see a place where they could talk without being interrupted. It also looked like a place where nobody would come through, so he chose it. While walking to it, he heard the mention of her mother and it seemed like it was related to what she wanted to talk about.

Yuurei turned around to look at her as he figured he would do his best to answer her. He was standing still as he looked at her.

“So what is it about your mother that you wanted to talk to me about?” He asked her.

Renji would pull Yuurei’s ear as he would look at him.

“Give her time, she is probably thinking of how to say it.” He said to Yuurei.

“I just asked was all you don’t got to pull my ear.” He said as the two butt heads for a second before looking at her with a smile and waiting for an answer or explanation.

While the demi-human would have usually smiled at their antics, she was far too anxious right not to smile. Now that they were somewhere a little more secluded she'd close her eyes and take a deep breath, centring herself. The moment she felt calm, her golden orbs snapped back open.

"A little over a year ago, I believe you were at the scene when a building within the crimson quarter district of Hosenka was burnt down." She stated, keeping her eyes locked on his, she didn't know the exact cause of the fire, but it had only occurred after he had started the chaos from her hazy memories, "It was used as a fighting ring, predominately involving werewolves." She added, hoping that would trigger his memories of the place, after all, he had fought several of them during the whole escapade. Now came the difficult part, the question she needed the answer to.

"I need to know. During the chaos that ensued, did you, or did you not see a middle-aged woman, with cat-like features similar to my own?" Her ears pricked up, as she eagerly awaited his response. This was it, she was finally going to get an answer after all this time.

Yuurei would listen to her after a few seconds of silence, and the light mage rubbed the back of his hearing about the building that got burned down. Still, he couldn’t stop looking into her eyes as she was staring at him. He remembered beating up a lot of people that day for using a girl to fight some tough-looking werewolves. It was a good day because he was able to ruin that owner’s life by mistreating people. He wondered if the girl that he had saved from fighting in that cage was fine, but there were so many people he had to escort out that he wasn’t sure.

Then she asked him a question, and he had to think about it. His eyes escaped hers’ as he was thinking about that day. It would seem like out of all the people he had saved there was one woman who looked like she could barely walk and everything. He did help her out of that burning place and he got her taken care of and gave her some money for her to be fine for a long time.

“What I remember that day was this. I was in that place to go fight against some wolves to test out my strength. When I got there I saw a young girl fighting against one of these werewolves. Let’s just say I was not pleased by that scene because she didn’t even look like she wanted to be there. So I stopped it and then the owner came yelling at me, so I stopped him too. I don’t think that guy will ever try something like that again.” He paused for a second.

“I remember somehow the place got caught on fire, or maybe I did that, I’m not too sure, but I helped everyone out. There was indeed a lady in the back who needed help getting out, so I helped her. The girl in the cage wasn’t there anymore, so I figured she had enough energy to get out, so I was happy about that. I gave that woman a lot of money and told her to take care of herself after I got her taken care of and a nice place to stay for the time being.” He explained to her what he did that day.

“Why do you ask? Was that your mother? Why was she back in the back tied up?” He asked as he did not remember her being the girl he saved.

Yuurei was in a rage that not a lot of people see often, and all he saw was the enemy in front of him and anybody who was associated with the man who own that place.

Haru wasn't too surprised about hearing him choosing to go there to fight some werewolves, that was a common occurrence. People wanted to test their strength out against beasts, although usually at their own demise from what she recalled. She averted her gaze at the mention of helping a young girl in the ring, he clearly didn't recognise her at all, but that was fine, he didn't need to know. Nor would her father be doing that to her again, considering she had run away.

Her eyes were drawn back to him, however, as he mentioned the woman in the back room, that was her, there was no one else that was kept there when she was fighting. Her father's guarantee that she would give her all, or watch her mother pay for her failure to perform for the crowd. Hearing her mother was safe, made her so overwhelmed with joy she started to cry. Her mother was okay, and she was living well. She tried to stop but the tears kept flowing.

"Th-thank you!" She murmured through her sobs. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders, her choice to run in fear of her own life, had left her with so many regrets. Yet to hear not only was her mother alive and well, but she was no longer bound to that horrible man, meant the world to her. She didn't even know where to begin to properly thank the man in front of her.

Yuurei would look at her and it would seem like her tail was moving even faster than it was before, which made him nervous. The second thing made his eyes pop out of his eyes as he feared what was going to happen. She was crying and his arms were moving frantically because he didn’t know what to do to stop the crying. She had thanked him, but he didn’t know why she was crying. He had spoken a lot, so he wasn’t sure what part she was thanking him. Maybe it was the woman that he had saved? Holy shit he was lost for words, but there was one thing he knew what to do. When were people crying all, you had to do was embrace them?

“You…you’re welcome? Do you need a hug? Why’re you crying?” He asked her hoping that he didn’t say anything to get her like this.

Renji pulled his hair and shook his head because Yuurei done messed up. Still, they were lucky that this didn’t happen in public, or else this would look bad in Yuurei’s side of it all.

She'd shake her head at his offer of a hug. As much as she'd have felt embracing him would be fine, she herself was not overly fond of physical contact with those she barely knew. After a few minutes of sniffling, she'd finally manage to wipe away her tears and recompose herself.

"Sorry, I was just... so overcome with happiness..." She smiled softly, unable to look him in the eye. "Yes, that was my mother and I suppose for your actions you have earned a proper explanation." She took a deep breath, still a little shaken up from her earlier outburst of tears, but after a year of holding in all her worries, she couldn't stop herself.

"She was... for lack of a better term, used by m-" she paused, about to use the words 'my father', only to change her mind, "the owner of that place, the one you so kindly disposed of." She brought her fist to her chin as she tried to think of the best way to further explain. "I guess you could say the two of us were his playthings. I feared when I had run away she would be punished in my stead. I am glad to hear that is not the case." for the first time since meeting Haru beamed brightly up at the light mage. With the knowledge he had bestowed upon her today those thoughts would no longer plague her.

Yuurei

Yuurei would take the shaking of her head a no, and he kept himself a few feet away from her. He just stood there waiting for her to say something and it would happen. She explained that the woman he helped was her mother, and he would nod as he was glad to help her. It would seem like the owner of the place was disgusting and even treated women like they were toys. He would shake his head as he was glad, he had destroyed that place in the end.

“Yeah, she is probably in Hosenka still, but she isn’t in the Crimson Quarter district anymore. I made sure of that, so that is why you couldn’t find her there.” He said to her as he wanted to pat her head, but kept his distance.

“Yeah that guy, like I said I don’t think he will ever run a business like that again. If I set foot in Hosenka and find out he did, then he will be in for a rude awakening.” He said as he looked around.

The girl had found out about her mother, which was good. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do now. The light mage figured that he could offer her food that he was going to make for her anyways.

“You can talk to me more if you want, but would you like me to cook you a meal to fill your tummy?” He asked her waiting for an answer.

While the neko was sure he meant what he said, she doubted her father would continue to lay low for long. He was the kind of person to reemerge under a new name and business. Not necessarily in Hosenka though, she was aware that he had ties with some unsavoury folk in Joya, perhaps he'd hidden there? Well, it mattered not to her as long as her mother was free from his clutches.

"A free meal from my handsome hero? How could I refuse such an offer?" she gracefully accepted with a small chuckle, it had been far too long since she'd enjoyed a proper meal. "Although, I do not think this is the best place for us to dine, nor for cooking that fish you bought earlier." she added with a smirk, as she glanced around in the alley they had ended up in away from the crowd. Haru had assumed he was planning to cook what he had purchased, it would be odd not to, considering fish tasted best the fresher it was.

"Do you require an oven or a campfire?" She'd ask, tilting her head a little unsure how he was planning to bake it, it would make a difference to the location she'd recommend they head to.

Yuurei

Yuurei would hear her as she gracefully accepted his offer, and of course, he wasn’t going to be cooking here. He was smiling at her when she spoke wondering where he was planning on cooking for them.

“That was a nice compliment, I am handsome, but I don’t think I’m a hero.” He said to her as he chuckle a bit about the food situation.

“Of course, I wouldn’t want to cook or have you eat a meal I made for you for the first time in this alleyway. If you follow me, I’m staying at a place with a stove I can cook in. I promise I won’t bite, unless wanted, and I won’t feel offended if you choose not to come with me.” He said to Haru.

Yuurei would turn and start walking towards the place he was renting for his time in Baska. They gave him a real nice discount due to all the things that he did in the city. While they were walking Renji wanted to make the conversation too.

“Yuu here is the best cook I know. You’re going to enjoy his meal, might even fall in love.” He said but stopping right there was something he shouldn’t have done.

The exceed meant falling in love with the food and not Yuurei, but however, she interpreted was up to the woman herself. In the end, they wouldn’t take long to get to their destination. Once there, Yuurei would open the door and offer her to go inside first.

Haru found herself stifling her laughter over his refusal over being called a hero. It didn't matter what he thought of himself, the fact he had saved both her and her mother, meant the world to the demi-human. His choice of words definitely displayed his uncertainty of if she'd even truly join him or not. She had already decided to tag along and as such was following him through the township as the ginger kitty spoke up.

What had the male called him again, Renjji? Now that she thought about it, they both had names from her mother's homeland, were they Joyan too? She figured she'd answer the orange feline's words first before asking any personal questions.

"Well, well, well. A fantastic chef and he claims to bite on command?" Haru asked curiously, her lips curling up into a coy smirk, "He's already got my heart all aflutter." She purred in a teasing manner, sending the exceed a small wink. When they arrived at the house, she'd watch as he unlocked the door and held it open, taking his gentlemanly offer to step inside first. She wondered if he owned this place or if he was simply staying here temporarily. This town definitely didn't seem like the kind of place someone of his abilities would settle down.

Yuurei watch her go in first, and then soon after he would do the same. The door would close by itself, but he wouldn’t put any locks on the door. Instead, Renji would hop off Yuurei’s shoulder as he would walk to the bed and hop on it before moving around and would lay down when he had a comfortable spot.

“Oh that’s interesting to hear.” He said as he looked over to his partner.

The light mage moved all the stuff on the counter as he was started to unpack everything. He would let the kitchen sink run in warm water as he would take a basket and move the potatoes one by one into the water as he was washing it and making sure they were clean to use.

“Yes, as you said only on command. If I got your heart truly flutter then it might melt when you eat.” He said with a smile on his face as he was cleaning all of the potatoes and putting them in the basket.

Once he did that, he would clean out the fish and take the bones out of it. He was moving things around and figured he would keep talking to Haru.

“So what do you plan on doing now that you know your mother is well? I can always go with you to check up on her if you want. Or you can stay with me for a bit until you truly get your bearings. This is a temporary place to stay since my guild is South Fiore.” He said to her as he would marinate the fish with different seasonings and amongst other things that were in his fridge.

"Ah you see, that's where you're mistaken, a heart of stone is not so easily melted." she tutted, glancing around the room, it was simple but tasteful. There were no personally framed photos but that made sense as he confirmed her suspicions on it being a temporary residence. The silver maned woman thought for a moment about her mother, she had been dying to see her, but, there were other personal reasons stopping her.

"While I appreciate the offer, both towards my mother and residing here, I fear I am already indebted to you enough. I would feel like a burden and I have no way to repay that kindness. It would be more than enough that should you meet with her again you simply let her know I am alive and well." She stated with a soft smile, finally sitting down on the bed next to Renji. Tentatively she reached her hand out in an attempt to pet the exceed if he would allow it.

Yuurei continued with his prepping of the meal he was going to make. He had placed the fish away as he was giving it time for everything he put to blend in with the fish, so it would take into effect. She was speaking to him, and he was listening while making sure everything was alright to move on to his next objective.

Still, it seemed like she had turned down his offer as well as going to see her mother. He figured he could do her that much in telling the older woman that her daughter was fine. Renji saw a hand coming towards him and when he saw who it belonged to he would look over to the other side as he was fine with it.

“Yes, you can pet me.” He said letting her know just in case she wasn’t sure.

“Ah I see a heart of stone you got there? Then I got to work hard to make sure I get it to melt. Still, why would someone like you have a heart of stone? You love your mother from how you reacted when I told you about it, which means your heats in the right place or at least I think it is.” He said as he moved onto the potatoes.

“I see, I can understand you feel indebted to me, but I’m not keeping tabs, nor am I expecting anything from you in return. I did what I did because it was what I wanted to do. “Still, if you don’t want to change your mind, I will tell your mother you’re okay, but what is keeping you in this side of Fiore?” He asked as he continued cutting the potatoes.

The moment she was given consent from the exceed she'd start to slowly stroke his soft fur. He was simply adorable, but perhaps she was simply biased towards felines. The neko woman lamented on the silver-haired male's words. Saying she had a heart of stone, wasn't entirely the truth, nor was it a complete lie in her opinion.

To survive the world she had grown up in, she'd had to seal off her heart to everything or find herself consumed by emotions. Her mother had also been very careful in explaining to her the difference between love and lust to her at a young age. She would not so easily fall for someone.

"I suppose you are right, my heart is simply walled off by stone, then?" She chuckled, yes, that was probably closer to the truth of the matter, "As for staying here, I have many... enemies I suppose." Her tone took a serious turn. There was no other way to really describe it, people would recognise her the moment she stepped foot in Hosenka.

While her mother was under his protection and they were probably biding their time, she doubted that her father would truly leave her alone for long. However, without Haru around, he had little need for her other than pleasure. If she were to return it would simply act as a catalyst to put them both back on a leash.

"That town is full of eyes for the less savoury folk, I fear your choice to remove that one man has simply made way for another to take his place." She sighed, it was true, that place was corrupt to the core, it would be a never-ending cycle unless a full-scale removal took place.

"As such, I wish to increase my own power before I return, that way I can properly protect my mother and myself. I have no doubt you will continue to check in on her and keep those enemies at bay, however, in the end, she is not your responsibility, but mine." She declared making her point clear, "Naturally it should go without saying that your assistance is very much appreciated in the meantime, of course."

Yuurei


Yuurei was done cutting up the potatoes and he would start seasoning the slice potatoes as he was listening to her explain things to him. He would have a smile on his face as she spoke about her heart but had a serious look when she spoke about enemies. The things she would say after were all true and he knew that much. He just wanted to take her to her mother, so they both knew they were fine. She could have left afterward, but he wasn’t going to force anything on anybody.

“Ahh I see so you’re a woman who has her guard up all the time with those around her. I can understand that. As for enemies, I doubt they would bother you if you walked into Hosenka with me by your side. Still, I understand, so no worries I will make sure to relay the message and check up on your mother frequently.” He said as he was waiting for everything to mix with each other before cooking.

He moved over to the pots and pans and would bring them out as he was going to use the pot for the fires and the pan for the fish.

“Still, it sucks that when you take out one bad person another one just appears. I wish I could do something about that, but that’s impossible.” He said as he turned around to look at her.

“So question where were you when all of this was happening with your mother?” He asked her because she still didn’t tell him that she was the girl from the arena.

Renji, on the other hand, would tremble a bit when she stroked his fur. He found himself moving closer to her as he was now near her thigh.

Haru stifled a small snicker when she noticed Renji edging ever so slowly closer to her. Figuring he would be more than okay with it, she used both hands to pick him up, placing him gently on her lap. Using her fingers she'd begin to massage just below both of his cheeks simultaneously, from her experience, that was where most cats enjoyed being pet so she figured exceeds wouldn't be too different.

"Here I thought you might have already put together all the pieces already." She tutted, shaking her head a little at his naivety. Considering he was there at the time, there was no point in hiding the truth from him, "To think I recognised you almost immediately. Come now, It was only a year ago. I don't think I was that much smaller than I am now, although I guess compared to the wolf fighting opposite me, perhaps I seemed tiny in comparison." She smirked, she was usually one to get straight to the point, but it was far more fun to tease this man before her. If he still couldn't figure it out from her heavy hinting then that was on him.
