Noir was sitting on the roof alone within the bit of shade available. She was up there all alone as she usually would be. The roof being one of her favorite places to think.

It would be here that she spent the bulk of her time during the last weeks as she was cultivating a plan, one that would come to fruition very soon. And this made her very anxious. Noir wanted to wash her hands from all this meddlesome work, but they were in way too deep to stop now.

“ Hey, you okay?” A voice called to her from somewhere behind. It shook her form the trance she had of all the thoughts bubbling in her head. Rocket couldn’t have come in a better time, but Noir wasn’t sure that a respite would be best at the moment. Not until she was surely done with thinking things over.

“ Yea…yea…just, ya know. Figuring some stuff out…” She tried to keep a level tone in her voice but it was clear from the dragged out response that Noir was out of it. She wasn’t really convincing Rocket at all.

“ Oh I know, just wanted to check up on you. You’ve been quiet for a few days and we’ve all been worried. Fish says you’ve barely been eating…” Rocket spoke with a somber sincerity. The worry in her voice was clear but she tried to feign a reassurance anyway.

“ Rocket…I have a bad feeling about this one…..” Noir would finally confess, she often had a gut feeling about these things but it never felt this bad before. Rocket would mull this over quietly as she absentmindedly stepped toward Noir. When she got close, Rocket would plop down onto her, pulling the girl into her embrace. “ I understand…” was the last thing she said for a while and the two would sit in silence for some time.

The night to rob the second to last place finally came. It was a Wednesday night with barely any moon in the sky. Most of the people who wandered the streets were either no where to be found or planted within the bars.

The location that the small group of thieves had set their sights on, was a restaurant of high regard. Two of their prior hits were also popular restaurants, while the third was simply a supplier that mostly sold whine. That last one had been the trickiest one they had so far, but they had also intended to save the more ambitious places for last. Calore, the place in question, had been pretty guarded since the first attack and its defense only rose with each gig. Though with the time to let the heat die down, they were hoping that they could get this done quick before anyone noticed.

The restaurant closed a little later than most, as most were don’t by nine but Calore wouldn’t be closed until eleven. So this job needed to be done even later than the others as well. Their goal? Well it was not quite the money, but they were free to take it. It was the recipes and invoices that were requested. What ever food found was also bonus for the kids as it would save them from a hungry night. So all in all, these jobs were a dream.

“ Okay, you know what to do Rocket.” Noir whispered as the rest of the group also got prepared by pulling tools out of their bags. Rocket was walking to the door while grabbing for her lock picking tools. As her name sake, she didn’t take any time at all. And soon enough the group would dart inside and get to work.


Meanwhile a harpy was also moving around in the dark with a heavy grin on her face. She already knew something was suspicious with this group of kids, but as they approached restaurant, Vee knew her irksome wait was finally over. Lonu was keeping her company at the time, but he and a few ravens would fly back to Lumi to rely the message. In the meantime, she would stop their robbery and wait until her master arrived. Sure the harpy didn’t care for the safety of the children, but it would be too bold of her to assume that Lumikki wouldn’t mind her getting rid of them entirely. Children were often an exception to her malice and so Vee treaded with great care.

” That took long enough.” Uttered the Demoness to the arrival of the news. She was within her room in the guild at the time but would swiftly make her exit.

Within that time, Vee already made her counter attack. The confrontation was done in a flash. As the kids broke in and entered the restaurant, Vee had glided her way in silently. Meshing with the pitch black darkness of the establishment and observed. But just before any of them could touch anything, they were all seized by black talons that were molded by darkness. Locking them into place as the harpy waited.

Each child would try to thrash at their restraints, crying and pleading to be let go. All but Noir and Rocket who looked as though they were in shock. It was after all as Noir feared, and Rocket was coming to terms with the consequences that she may have brought her family.

As Vee waited, she remained silent. Figuring it would be best until she knew their fate. And Lumi wouldn’t take all that long to arrive as she darted to through the skies quite swiftly.

” So these were the rats I’ve been warned about,” the Demoness would snide so cheekily, but the kids were to afraid to utter a word now. They did not know her per se but they did know of her and this put them all in a panic. Only Rocket would be able to brave her fear and try to talk through her worry.

“ What are you going to do with us?” She tried to bark.
