Investigate The Weed [Good Quest | Haru & Yuurei] Empty Sat Mar 26, 2022 6:17 pm

Haru Akagi
A few days had passed since Haru had dealt with a strange giant plant growing in the middle of Orchidia's streets. Apparently, she found out, she'd not been the only one, as Yuurei had previously done the same. Inspector Nilan had called them both back, this time to the forest outskirts where she had previously disposed of her overgrown beanstalk.

Upon arriving the feline and her colleagues would find the inspector alongside several scientists, all discussing various hypotheses based on the data they had collected from the previous samples they had had the delight in experimenting on. The silver maned woman's ears would perk up, trying to eavesdrop in a little as Nilan finally spotted the trio, excusing himself and making his way over to the small group.

He'd greet them and explain the situation, that they were in need of more samples to know for certain, but they highly suspected some sort of magic was at play and someone had been carelessly using it within the forest itself and perhaps accidentally within the town a few times. Hence the large plants they had previously dealt with. As such he wished to employ the Paradise Dawn members to venture into the forest and collect said samples, being as they were far more capable than the meek scientists.

Yuurei

Yuurei had heard from Haru about her dealing with a huge tree. That brought him memories because he had also dealt with something like that. Still, they were being called by that Inspector, which meant they were about to make more money. When they got there, they could see that they weren’t the only ones there, and soon enough Nilan would see that they were there. He would watch him approach and soon explained the situation. They were going to collect samples that had to do with that huge tree from before. This would be simple because he lived in a forest and knew how to navigate through one as well.

They were given some devices that would take on the samples they found. That was good as they would enter the forest. Yuurei was looking around the place as he would see that there were several vines growing still even though the plant that belonged to them was no longer there. He would take a few of these vines back with him as samples.

The vines on their own were strange and suspicious. They seemed to originate from the plant that she'd chopped down and dragged here. It still seemed to be very much alive despite the fact it most certainly shouldn't be, not through any natural means. Yuurei took some of the vines as samples for further testing but she felt that there was definitely more than just this one plant.

"We should venture in further." Haru stated, moving already to climb through the vines that wrapped around the trunks of regular trees. Travelling in deeper the trio would find an array of strange, overgrown, luminous plants, unsure if they were native to the area or not, Haru would suggest they take a few samples of each with the equipment they'd been provided, careful not to get any of the sap or other liquids that oozed from them on her, considering the plant in town had caused mild sickness in those that had come into contact with it.

#4Yuurei

Yuurei

Yuurei would hear Haru and with a smile on his face, he would nod as he would move through the forest. He kept a watch for anything that could be different from the majority of the things that were within these parts. It wouldn’t take long for Haru to point some out and he would nod because these things definitely didn’t belong in these parts. He would start picking up some of the samples that were out of the ordinary. There were some mushrooms in these parts that shouldn’t be able to grow this big. These were things they were looking for. He kept moving around making sure that Nilan would have enough to work with.

While doing this, he would feel weaker than he did before. It took him a while to notice, but he didn’t like this feeling and he could tell that there was something wrong with the forest.

“We need to leave the forest. The deeper we go the weaker we are becoming. I think it’s sapping our mana.” He said as he started moving towards the path they had come from.

Now that the light mage mentioned it, she had been feeling a little more tired than normal, but she'd just assumed it was because they'd been traversing through the forest for a while. Haru scowled as she looked at the surrounding area, the forest seemed lush and alive, but there was most certainly a distinct lack of creatures around. She hadn't seen a single woodland critter in a while now. Taking Yuurei's advice, she'd follow suit, returning back towards the outskirts of the forest. she kept her eyes and ears peeled for signs of life outside the plants, a very ominous omen to say the least.

Eventually, they'd return to the inspector and the group of scientists, handing over the samples. Haru would let the light mage report about the strange sensation they had experienced in regards to the feeling of having their mana and life drained from them. The inspector would be visibly concerned but thank them for their efforts.

Yuurei

Yuurei would move through the forest quickly. He was able to do so without a problem and he would find himself in the same sport where all scientists were. He would look around until they would spot Nilan, and he would make his way towards the man. Haru would hand him the samples over, and Yuurei would look at Nilan with a serious look on his face.

“We found a lot of unusual stuff, but the scariest thing of it all was that anybody who steps into the forest will find themselves having their mana drain. I think it's best we tried to find out what is really going on here.” He said to Nilan.

The inspector was happy that he told these two to go in first because he could only imagine what would have happened if the scientists had gone into the forest. Still, now that they had done everything they were asked to do, they would get paid and be on their way home.
