What a day it had already been. Yori spent most of his morning going over a list of casualties from the war. Some were soldiers of the guild who perished in battle; others were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. Old, young. Male, female. Human, creature. This list contained the names of multiple people of varying backgrounds. And to make matters worse, it didn't even provide an accurate representation of the total lives lost, considering there were still people unaccounted for.

A part of Yori felt as if he were to blame for this mess. After all, he could not even save the life of one man. He had begun to question his strength, a feeling that came new to the adventurer. There was no doubt in his mind that if he had more power, then maybe he would not be reading an essay. Yori could not recall a day that he had seen the guild as busy as it was today. For starters, a ginormous crowd of reports and onlookers lined up at the guild's entrance, so the guards held them off. And boy, were they persistent. One reporter even kicked a guard in his netherregions trying to get by. Then there was the abundance of patients in the guild's infirmary. It got to the point where they eventually stopped accepting incomers due to the sheer amount.

Everything was a shitshow. Showers were limited to ten minutes max per person, and there was a lack of rags and towels, so people had to share. Food was scarce and harder to come by now, so the higherups agreed to ration it to ensure everyone's survivability. The giants had did a number on the North's most prized spots. For instance, Rush Valley contributed to the war effort by supplying the guild with weapons and armor. However, their machinery, tools, and establishments were targets for the giants.

For these many reasons the adventurer found himself at Rush Valley this evening. He had planned to do his part and pay his respects to the people; hopefully, then his concious would be clear.

Yuurei


Yuurei was in Rush Valley when the fighting started. He had done his best, but a lot of lives had been lost. Still, he had helped out the mess that had occurred a few days after, and now, well now he was just trying to see how everything was going. He felt that he could have done better that day, but it was too late. It was in the past, and the only thing he could do was make sure that he didn’t repeat his mistakes. He had to make sure that he had learned from it all.

There were people who looked defeated from the event that unfolded, but at the same time, it seemed like they were grateful to be alive. Renji was by his side and the two of them were walking around. They would be going around assisting those who needed it. He was making sure that everything was going fine with the repair of the place.

“I hope this finishes quickly. They need to get back to their normal lives.” He said to Renji.

“Yeah, but I think they’re reinforcing their home, so next time it can take a beating instead of being utterly destroyed.” He said to Yuurei as they kept moving around.

There wasn't anything overly exciting about Rush Valley, aside from the countless raw minerals it produces. From what he had heard, the people of Rush Valley were longtime allies of the North, having grown distant since then. They established their independence from the North some time ago and have only recently started supplying again to the highest bidder. In this regard, Yori imagined that Khal must have spent a fortune to equip the footsoldiers with both weapons and armor. And make no mistake, the blacksmiths of Rush Valley only made quality items. So, it is safe to say that Khal received a lot of bang for his buck.

Yori had never been to this part of the mountains yet. Everything here was much livelier and hectic compared to the places he had been thus far. And frankly, this came as a shock to him, considering these people had suffered greatly. As Yori strolled through the town, expecting to see people deprived of feeling, he saw a community working towards a common goal. The restoration of the town. This much had already eased his mind just a little. "These people are fighters, through and through." he thought to himself.

Of course, not everyone he had encountered had the same enthusiasm. Some would aimlessly walk the town - praying to wake up from this nightmare. These were individuals who could not come to terms with reality. Children with no place to call home roamed the sidewalks, searching for their parents. However, disappointment soon followed. And there were thousands of other people in the same predicament, or worse.

After all his walking, Yori approached an old, senile lady's house. Some scrawny men were attempting to remove the debris from her garden. If they had managed to humiliate themselves a tad longer, he would not have noticed Yuurei coming from down the road.

Yuurei

Yuurei would keep moving through the area and while doing so he would see something from afar. There were men working hard to try and take the debris off an old lady’s garden. How did he know that? Well, she was yelling and crying about her babies. They were trying their best, but they couldn’t do much about it. He figured he would help them out. While moving toward them, he would see that there was another Paradise Dawn member watching them try. He would approach the group of men with a smile on his face.

“It seems like you guys need help here. I can do this for you, All you have to do is remove all the smaller debris around here.” He said this as he would grab onto the large debris and he would use his entire might to lift it into the air.

Yuurei would slowly move the debris away from everyone as he didn’t want anybody to get hurt before putting it down. There were still a few more things around the garden that needed to be picked up, and he would look over to Yori with a smile on his face.

“Hey you think you could help out Yori?” He asked him wondering what he would say or do.

And there he was, Yuurei Starlight or what Yori thought funny to call him, Mr. Rainbow and Unicorns. He rubbed against his chest - reminiscing over the time Yuurei nearly took the breath out of his lungs. Yori was itching for a rematch with the man but in due time. He was so in his head he almost forgot that Yuurei had asked him a question. "Hm? Sure." Yori would follow in Yuurei's footsteps, picking up the smaller objects to loosen up the pile of junk.

There were vast amounts of broken wood, glass, and fallen items around the garden. However, thanks to Yuurei's unreal strength, they would finish in no time. Yori focused on the more tedious tasks, like finding all the tiny shards of glass in the garden. He feared that the old lady would accidentally step on one and cut up the bottom of her feet. "One... two..." he would say as he picked up the pieces of glass from the ground. Yori threw the pieces of glass in a pile of trash that Yuurei had started.

"Whose the cat?" he would ask him. The adventurer could not recall meeting them, but their stylistic preference left an impression.

Yuurei

Yuurei continued cleaning. He was removing a bunch of the big things that he knew others would take too long to move. He looked over to Yori as he was helping out as well. He had smiled because he was glad that he was here to help. While they were cleaning the area for the old lady, Yuurei looked over to Yori who had asked him a question. He would put down the debris where all the trash was located. He stood tall and stretch.

“Oh this guy is Renji. I guess you didn’t see him when we sparred last time.” He said to Yori.

“Yes, it is me, Renji. Yori what kind of magic or weapons do you use for combat?” He asked him curious to hear his answer.

Renji understood that not all people within the world possessed magic now, so he had to ask. Yuurei, on the other hand, would continue to work around the place to make sure that there was nothing left in this part.

The adventurer took a moment to get a good look at Renji. "Nah, I got nothing." he would say, scratching his head. As Yuurei suggested, he must have forgotten having seen Renji - which came as a shock considering what he wore. The cat stood roughly four inches from the ground, orange in color, and dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. "Ain't no way in hell I missed that running about the place. Yori thought to himself. He wasn't sure what to make of the cat yet, but time would tell.

"This handy spear has managed to get the job done for the time being." he would reply to Renji. He would bring the tip of the spear closer to Renji's face. "See how sharp it is?" he would continue with a conniving smile. Yori resumed cleaning the garden, keeping an eye out for fallen objects. If memory served him right, he recalled seeing a broken mirror at the side of the house.

Yuurei

Yuurei would look at Yori and Renji would do the same thing. They would both just watch him show the Exceed his choice of weapon. The little cat would nod when he saw what he did, and he had a smirk on his face.

“I see, so you fight with that. It must be interesting to fight with that.” He said to Yori.

Yuurei was moving things around though. He wouldn’t stop doing that, the place that the old lady resided in would have her home cleared out smoothly. The Nephilim wondered why Yori joined Paradise Dawn, and he was curious to hear what he had to say.

“So, Yori, I don’t think I asked you when we were at the training dome together, but what was your reasoning for joining the guild. If you don’t mind I’m interested in hearing your story.” He said this as he moved more of what was remaining on the floor.

They were almost done alongside all the people that were here to help before they had gotten here.

Yori took a moment to step aside from the conversation. He later returned with a broken mirror in his hand. Unfortunately, he did not have anything to wrap his hands with while picking up the mirror. As a result, his hands got cut up. Cautiously, Yori added the broken mirror to the trash pile. He had arrived just in time to reply to Yurrei's question. "No specific reason. I happened to bump into Khal while on a mission, and he extended an invite to his guild. Admittedly, I'm only concerned with what the guild has to offer me." he would say.

There was a trail of broken glass pieces scattered behind Yori. He knelt to the ground and patiently picked each of them up. "I guess that must make me one selfish bastard." He rose from the ground and threw the few pieces of glass pieces into the trash pile. "A honest selfish bastard." Yori laughed.

Yuurei would hear what he said, and he would nod as he understood where he was coming from. The light mage did notice the wounds that were inflicted on his hands. He wished that he didn’t touch the glass without something to protect him. Still, he figured if he had done this, then he was trying to prove himself or toughen his pain tolerance. The Nephilim were going to question his method, so he wouldn’t talk about that.

The berserker would move toward some broken furniture that made its way out of the house. He would pick that up and move it to the other pile of trash. While he was doing that, he would hear Yori’s comment and he would chuckle a bit. He wasn’t the only one who was a selfish bastard and that was sure.

“It’s okay to be selfish Yori. I think everyone in this guild is selfish in one way or another. I just hope that even though we’re all selfish that we will help each other when danger comes for us. Hell, I joined because I hoped I would find strong individuals to fight alongside me when a threat appears.” He said to him as he had a smile on his face.

Renji would nod as he was trying to show Yori that he was fine with how he was and that his reasoning for joining Paradise was not a problem.

Starlight's reaction to Yori's motives came as a shock. It certainly was not the response he expected from the guild's ace. "And what exactly is it that you're selfish of?" Yori questioned. Perhaps the young adventurer had misjudged Yuurei's character. Initially, Yori took him as a solemn individual, but now he had a different perspective. Upon second look, Yuurei was light-hearted all around.

Most, if not all of the mess, had been cleaned from the garden thanks to the help of everyone. Hopefully, now the old lady would be able to enjoy the beautiful view of her garden once more. Luckily for the group, the old lady had not bothered them by having them replant her damaged plants. The old lady happily handed them a glass of lemonade to cool off for their efforts. While a part of Yori was satisfied with the outcome of things, still he wondered how he could be of use.

Yuurei was still cleaning the old lady’s home, and things were coming to an end. This was good because it meant they could go and help someone else. While he was finishing up, he would hear Yori’s question. It would seem like he was interested in hearing what he had to say.

The Nephilim thought about it for a few seconds and figured that it wouldn’t hurt to share his motives. He had done so before in front of everybody when the guild had been formed. He might as well do it again.

“I want to make sure that everybody within the guild became powerful individuals. That way I can have them help me out with my plan and vengeance to kill a monster that defeated me and has my parents captured for about eighteen years. I do not intend to lose twice to something that cruel.” He said this as he noticed that they were done here.

He would stretch his arms into the air as he noticed the old lady had given him something to drink. Yuurei would take it and chug it at once as he would sigh with relief.

“Alright we should go and see who else needs our help. Thank you for the refreshments.” He said to the lady.

The young adventurer would take sips of his lemonade as he listened to Yuurei. "Ah, I see." It had seemed that the white-haired man was only interested in accumulating strong comrades for some personal vendetta. However, given Yuurei's strength and that of his allies, it was odd that he had not already dealt with his issue. Yori had no interest in the man's past, but he was never opposed to fighting monsters. That said, he continued "I'll gladly offer my help to slay this monster of yours but nothing more."

Yori took the last sip of his glass of lemonade and handed the empty glass to the old lady. "Thank you." he would say before bowing before her. Behind him stood Yuurei, who had not yet left the scene surprisingly. "We?" the adventurer thought to himself. Never did he expect to be running errands with the man that bested him.  "And here I thought I'd have the chance to run away..." he said underneath his breath.

"Maybe we should check the infirmary. Chances are they are not only understaffed but overwhelmed by the sheer amount of injured people they must have."

Yuurei

Yuurei was glad to hear that Yori was down to help him. He had been hoping that he would gather people, but at the same time, he had to decide who to bring with him when the time came. As things progress, he would look over to Yori. He had suggested something to him, and he would smile at him. He was fine with that idea, and he would start walking toward the infirmary as he was sure everyone knew where it was. Renji started walking as well as he moved by Yuurei’s side.

“Smart idea, by the way. I’m pretty sure they could use our help there.” He said to Yori as they kept moving through the streets of Rush Valley.

It wouldn’t take long, but they would be able to make it to their destination. When they got there, they would see a bunch of people bandaged up. They looked like they had already gone through the worse of it and were just recuperating. He was glad that was the case, but he saw that the medical unit was still hard at work, and he was hoping they could be of some use.

The walk to the infirmary was short-lived, roughly a block from the house. From a distance, Yori could see the sheer number of people waiting to get in. “Make way! We’ve got one more coming through!” Yori would hear someone from the crowd say. It was a woman carrying a young boy on a stretcher. The boy appeared to be in a critical condition, considering the amount of blood loss.

“I ain’t moving for nobody. I’ve been waiting in line for six goddamn hours.” someone in the front of the line said. A few others began to voice their opinion following their comment. “I’ve had a ringing noise in my left ear since the raid.” someone else said. More people began to bicker and argue, letting their frustrations be known. It was clear to Yori that everyone was in distress, but all the negativity only added fuel to the fire.

The adventurer stepped up to the man at the front of the line and grabbed his shoulder.

"Are you deaf? She asked you to move." he said, using minimal strength to shove the man to the side.

Yuurei would look around to see if there was anything he could do. Of course, there would be something for him and he would find out soon enough. There would be someone screaming, and he would look over to see a kid on a stretcher. This put the half-elf in a mood as he didn’t think he would see something like this. Still, he knew this was happening all day and that a lot of people were harmed because of the giants.

Still, even he could see that this boy was in critical condition, and it seemed like there were not happy that he would get attention first. Others began to complain, and soon enough Yori would push the man who refused to get out of the way. This was going to end badly if he didn’t step in this and it was for the guy and not Yori.

He walked over to the group of people, and he would step right next to the man that Yori pushed.

“I don’t think you want to start a fight with someone who killed giants. I mean Paradise Dawn made sure the majority of the people in the North stood alive. I think you should listen to the woman though. The kid looks like he might die and it will be because you were being too stubborn.” He said with a vicious smirk on his face.

Yuurei’s left hand was balled up into a fist as he was trying his best to keep calm and relax.

The man that Yori had shoved reacted as expected. He was surprised but angrier at the fact the adventurer tossed him to the side like a flea. Thankfully, Yuurei's intervention prevented things from getting out of hand. Unlike Yori, the mage approached the situation calmly and spoke to the man. While the man had no reason to listen to anything Yuurei had to say, it was something about his tone that instilled fear into the man's heart. "F-fine. I can wait for another hour or two; after all, a kid's life is at stake." the man said, trying to cover his tracks.

Yori loosened his grip on his spear and signaled everyone at the front of the line to make way. "Jeez... I might've killed that guy." he thought to himself. With the entrance to the infirmary cleared, the woman carrying the boy on the stretcher rushed inside. Concerned for the boy's condition, the adventurer followed after them. "What happened to him?" Yori asked the woman as they walked around the infirmary, looking for an open room.

"John Doe. Maybe eight or nine years old. Someone found him piled under a broken-down building." As they all cut corners, the number of injured people grew. "Aside from a few broken ribs, there is a piece of a metal rod stuck in his upper thigh." she said. "Is there anything at all I can do to ease his pain?" the adventurer inquired. The woman held her head down low, and her facial expression began to change. "His chances are slim, but if we can stop the bleeding, he will at least have a fighting chance." Yori opened the curtain for a room they had found in the back of the infirmary. "Quickly, I need you to apply pressure to his thigh so that I can remove the rod." the woman said.

Without question, Yori aided the woman in treating the young boy. Meanwhile, he had forgotten about Yuurei's presence. "I got my hands tied here. We'll meet up at a later time."

Yuurei

Yuurei would smile when he heard the man respond to him. The man listen this time, and he was glad that was the case. The light mage didn’t want to break his arm or even knock him out. It was better to comply and it seemed like things would go as planned. While the woman entered, Yuurei would follow behind Yori. His expression turned to one of a sad one. Another person was hurt from the event that unfolded. This time it was a child that he would see in person.

It seemed like Yori had wanted to help badly. This brought Yuurei to move around the infirmary as well. He figured he would play crowd control and make sure that nobody got out of hand. It seemed like there were a lot of people in pain. Still, he was hoping things would change for the better.

“You do what you got to do. Glad you care about the people in this Region Yori.” He said to him as he moved away.
