Phantoms of the Haunted Opera

Throughout Fiore, Marigold is known for its amazing theatrical productions. Many citizens and foreigners come from far and wide to visit Marigold to view these productions while upcoming actors and actresses dream of one day playing on one of the many stages that Marigold has to offer. Playwrights, of course, have the same dream of glory in Marigold. It is almost a guaranteed ticket to success as a playwright to have one's play performed in one of Marigold's esteemed theaters.

However, this is not a story with a happy ending. For, you see, not too long ago, an invitation was sent across the country to eager playwrights to come to Marigold and pitch their play. Numerous playwrights accepted the invitation and showed up at the prestigious Gaston Opera House to take their shot at stardom. Rookie actors and actresses were allowed to perform the plays to potentially get scouted as well during the process. Unfortunately, nobody ever got the chance to prove themselves.

The Gaston Opera House burned down with all the playwrights, actors, and actresses inside. Some believed the event to have been a freak accident, while superstitious theatergoers were of the opinion that someone said Macbeth. Even if the Gaston Opera House would be repaired, nobody would ever want to act there. Thus, they decided to leave it be to honor the creative souls who never got a chance to show their plays and acting skills.

Lately, however, deep in the middle of the night, sounds can be heard coming from the Gaston Opera House. Businesses are afraid (that this might drive away people from coming to Marigold). Therefore, they want someone to find out what is going on inside the Gaston Opera House. Got what it takes to enter the Gaston Opera House in the middle of the night and find out its mysteries? Beware—You're in for a Scare!

Quest Details

  • The ghosts of the playwrights, actors, and actresses are haunting the Gaston Opera House. At night, the place supernaturally restores itself to what it looked like before it was burned.

  • The ghosts cannot leave this plane until their souls are at rest. They are upset that they died before being able to prove themselves.

  • The wailing is due to the fact that the ghosts cannot agree among themselves on how to resolve this issue. Therefore, each night the ghosts argue with each other.

  • You must facilitate this event for the ghosts to make sure that at least some of them cross to the other side by the end of the night.

  • Choose a playwright and a few actors and actresses among the ghosts to get the show started. You may appease the other ghosts by telling them that everyone gets their turn eventually on other nights.

  • You may come up with the play that is written by the IC playwright yourself. It does not have to be an existing play.

  • While the interior looks fine, none of the sound effects and lights are actually working. Use your magic or any other method to make up for this and ensure that the show goes on.

  • It is important to somehow convince at least a few people to enter the Gaston Opera House and watch the show. The method on how you get them inside may affect your Reputation path.

  • When other guests are inside, the ghosts look like mortals.

  • A standing ovation at the end will complete the quests and allow the selected playwright, actors, and actresses to cross to the other side. This, however, will scare the living hell out of the guests as they will finally realize that they have been watching a show done by ghosts this entire time.

Something Always Goes Wrong

Roll a dice in your quest to find out what goes wrong during your run of Phantoms of the Haunted Opera.

  • 1-25: A random ghost gets into an argument backstage and turns into a wraith during the show. Defeat the wraith. The damned thing is overly dramatic (as expected) and will start loudly monologuing and making battle sounds while fighting you. Play it off as part of the show.

  • 26-50: A random ghost decides to harass (or even kill) someone in the audience to mess with the play. This could be because they have a grudge against the selected playwright or someone in the cast. Either way, you must deal with it to ensure that the show goes on. Play it off as part of the show.

  • 51-75: A random ghost does not believe that you or someone else will come here again to facilitate such an event for them. They are not going to take any chances by waiting and will randomly walk on stage during the play with their own made-up character. Play it off as part of the show.

  • 76-100: A random ghost kidnaps one of the cast members. They are nowhere to be found. You have no choice but to replace them and become a part of the show yourself to make sure that the show goes on. As always play it off as part of the show.

Reputation Path

  • Contract: The user receives a Contract if they lied to manipulate people outside to get them in the Gaston Opera House. Using magic without causing harm also results in a Contract.

  • Bounty: The user receives a Bounty if they used force on people outside to get them in the Gaston Opera House. Another reason for a Bounty could be if the guests got hurt by the ghosts.
