[FPP – Chaos Eclipse Takes Over] Lumikki's attempt Empty Thu Jun 22, 2023 8:21 pm

Lumikki

Lumikki Omena was enjoying her lunch of potatoes and beef stew in the guild’s dining hall. Wearing her oversized shirt and slippers. Practically gorging herself with her meal as she brainstormed some new spells. The possibilities of her magic’s potential were overwhelming and her brain was beginning to fry.

She was only now getting a grasp on her dark magic but she wasn’t sure how it would manifest. Her ice was something she had long grown accustomed to but she never used it in battle until now. So even that was proving to be a chore to think through. Lumikki sighed as she took a break from thinking leaning far back in her chair as she took a big gulp from her drink. Slamming the cup back down on the wooden table, she crossed her arms as she let her meal settle in her stomach.

Before she could get really comfortable, a commotion was stirring within the guild. Confused, Lumikki rose from her seat to walk over to the doorway. Hoping that by peeking out she’d hear what the disturbance was, but no one said anything as they ran about. Many people she didn’t recognize were scrambling about. A few looked as though they were rushing to grab their gear.

Lumikki crossed her arms over her chest once more, annoyed that she was left out of the loop; but it didn’t last that much longer. A voice she never heard before entered her head.

“I just received word of more information from our scouts. They have said that multiple places in Rush Valley have been attacked by a mysterious group. From what they gathered, it seems they are called the “Chaos Eclipsed”. They have attacked Rush Valley and are capturing and killing the residents. Anybody who defies them has been taken out. We should start clearing out after everybody has prepared.”

There it was, the source of the panic. Lumikki’s temper was flaring out quickly causing the air to chill just as quick. Streaks of frost were creeping along the floor and up the doorway from where she stood, blooming large black ice flower buds with jagged and razor-sharp shards. The light dimmed around her as black tendrils of darkness began to lightly wrap around her. She may have only recently become a member of Paradise Dawn, but the North was always her home. She was born and forged here; she had no tolerance for anyone causing havoc within it. Least of all, right near her new home. She thought of the family she left behind in Fjallgard and how angry she would be if any dark guild tried that there. At least they had a mess of dwarves back home to fight off the brutes. Thankfully for Rush Valley, they had Paradise Dawn.

Screeching and grunting in anger, she ran towards the women's dormitory to gather her things. Passing Gnicolas and Benimaru along the way as they headed for her Uncle as he prepared the defenses. Gnicolas insisted that she stuck close to them as they proceeded to answer the call, but more than anything, that she was careful. There was no way to predict the dangers to come.

Benimaru was practically shivering, if a shield even could manage that, in anticipation of what was to come. Always time for a good battle after all. He left Lumikki with his sentiments on his eagerness to see more of her in combat. Only having a small taste of the spells from a Tundra witch. If Lumikki wasn’t so angry from the attack, she would have taken his comments with a smirk. Though the oni was content with the chill the little daemon girl bled out all the same. Floating behind Gnicolas as they resumed their task.

Lumikki kept this all in mind as she tried to calm down and think clearly. The words of her teacher Gnicolas. She couldn't afford to make a mistake now and she couldn't chance to get in her Uncle’s way. No, it was for the best she did what she could alone. Brone needed to focus on the task at hand and protect the people. If she was around as weak as she is, she’d only hold him back. He’d pay her too much mind to get this done and she couldn’t afford for the shield to fail its people. Besides, what better time to pave her way? This was a moment, a reminder to her for why she needs to get strong. That is, to destroy all those that dare to creep through what’s hers and ruin it. Lumikki felt a deep hunger shift in her. One that invites this chaos and strife. She almost hears the voice of the demon she spoke to before coming to Paradise Dawn. Though it has long been drowned and driven out by a voice akin to her own. An even hungrier darkness.

Finally, she makes it to the women’s dormitory. She rushes up the stairs and runs down the hall until she finds her door.

Quickly Lumikki kicked off her slippers the moment she had made it to her room. Slamming the door behind her. She grabbed her combat boots and ran to the bed so she could quickly force them on. Snatching her staff soon after and rushing to open her window. Lumikki wasted no time as she jumped out, diving at first before curling into a ball. Black feathers began to form an envelope around her. Covering her in a small vortex before a raven burst forth from the cluster. Shooting through the sky Lumikki elevated herself until she could see all of the guilds beneath her. Her sharp eyes took all into view as she sought out all of whom she knew, making note of where they were and what they were doing. In her many rotations within the air above she happened to see the Guild Master on the roof, probably overlooking the members as well. She looked over to see what he would do next. Though he didn’t matter to her, he wasn’t her focus. She needed to be where her Uncle was.

She wasn’t the only raven scouting in the sky, her Uncle’s companions Huggin and Muggin were doing the same. At least she knew her tactic was on the right track. She watched as they too streaked through the skies to gain a general idea of the happenings. After all, a wolf needs his ravens to find the prey. She would cross them in the sky as they made their rounds, observing the men assemble the towers and bridge.

When Lumikki had a good idea of all that was occurring she spotted her Uncle down by the bridge. Gnicolas, Benimaru, and Geri were finally just approaching. She continued to fly into the air until found a place to perch. Waiting on her Uncle to make his move, she would follow in his direction. She looked over to the Guild Master once more to see his reaction. He seemed pleased. She followed one of the ravens with her eyes back to Brone. Looks like he was raring to go.

Soon after Brone mounted Geri he took off, his men forming close behind. It began, she thought. The battle for her home commences. Lumikki dove down into the sky, the wind tearing ravenously at her feathers. When she picked up enough speed to her liking she shot forward. Flying swiftly in the direction of her Uncle, taking care to remain just out of his sight.

Time was passing as they rushed for the Valley. Lumikki spying Uncle’s raven returning from his scouting. Flying along Brone to probably relay the damage. Lumikki looked as closely as she could at her Uncle’s face, and it was as she feared. He was scowling. At least that takes away from the surprise she suppose. Eventually lowering herself down to be closer to the mercenaries. In her elated position, she would hardly hear a thing. Now that so much time has passed, her curiosity about the others was growing.

She would even see a few up ahead trying to match her Uncle’s speed. Maybe they too were curious about what is to happen next, though she was hardly sure. Finally hearing the murmurings of the mercenaries below, she took in their grievances. There was a lot of talk about not knowing what to expect up ahead. A reasonable fear for sure. She herself lost count of the minutes that went by when the fires of Rush Valley became prominent. The smoke spilled into the skies and nearly blocked out what is left of the sun. Darkening clouds are now indistinguishable from the rising soot and ash. The smell above all was becoming unbearable to Lumikki. Flying to the Valley was proving taxing when the air was becoming so uncomfortable to breathe. Her lungs were already so small in this form and she had found herself raven croaking a few times in her flight. Lowering herself a tad had already made it easier to breathe.

Soon enough word came back from the front. The two that sought to hear from her Uncle relayed the orders. The mercenaries had no choice but to be ready for the unexpected. They’ll get their orders on a whim. At least until we know more for sure. The mercenaries for most of this trip had been proud and eager. Hungry to prove their allegiance and defend those of the North. They still held on to their pride despite the silence of their leader, but as the smoke rose higher in the sky, their eagerness waned. There were no particular moans and whines to what they would face, Lumikki had observed, but their discomfort was becoming more apparent.

She decided to help extend her Uncle’s voice to the furthest back, easing the men's minds. “The people of Rush Valley,” she began, trying to keep her voice steady from the damage incurred from the smoke, ” are being ruthlessly cut down. Just a hop and a skip from our home. These enemies, the so-called “Chaos Eclipse” just think they could enter our North. Enter our home. Let us smother the fools! Snuff out the idiots that try us and our Guild.” Lumikki started gallantly as she figured her Uncle would. Falling into a chilling and vindictive voice as she went on. Though her questionable demeanor didn’t diminish her intention and its results. The mercenaries were reminded once more why they were answering the call. They poised themselves again as their fire was renewed.

Lumikki was pleased with their shift. Hoping this little gift she could offer aids her Uncle in some way. Even if it were slight. She made her way back towards the front, by her Uncle’s most trusted men, and looked down at her choices. Picking upon whom she’d perch so that she may rest a bit before entering the fray. The flight was draining some of her energy and she wanted to be well prepared. When the men entered the valley, she had planned to slink into the shadows and cover the stragglers. Let the main forces and Uncle handle the heart of the conflict.

She settled on the man to the far right, swooping in to perch his shoulder. At first, he was quite startled not knowing what had just happened, before registering a raven landed on top of him. Still confused he returned his poise but lost it as soon as Lumikki spoke once more. When she had spoke prior, it didn’t occur to them that one the ravens flying about was talking. Now that she was in his sight, that was a different story.

“Don’t mind if I rest here,” she began, clutching tightly with her talons as the man shuffled about in his reaction until he settled once more. “Flying can get tiresome after a while ya know. I don’t want to be spent before the battle starts.”

“The raven?!”, one man finally managed to muster, “It’s talking…and it’s a, a she?! I thought those old birds only knew to squawk?!”

Lumikki scoffed before breaking into a giggle at his reaction. She should have expected it. Almost considered even playing along. “We croak, not squawk. Thought my Uncle’s best would have more respect. You could consider me his third in the bunch if ya like. The one that could answer back. Though you could use some manners with handling a lady. Maybe I should let Uncle Brone know about that.”

The man was flabbergasted at the mention of Brone. Stirring from his placement on the horse once more. Lumikki saw the panic in his eyes as he was trying to form a response and it amused her.

“Sorry ma’am,” the mercenary began. He sounded very kurt at first. "Didn’t mean to offend you, see. Just was taken aback is all. It's not often any bird of Brone interacts with us, let alone stop for a chat. We appreciate your presence. No need to fret on that.”

Lumikki chuckled at his flusstered remark. Choosing to nuzzle him as her answer. This only flustered him more and she would proceed to speak further with the men until they finally reached the valley
