Some form of griffin, perhaps…? The young scholar seeming to be alerted to both the commotion and the cause by that hellish howl and for that reason looking up from her book to see something with an amalgamation of animal parts seeming to beat its chest more figuratively and wings more literally, while the faces around her seemed to be more interested in fleeing a beast which only had time to inflict pain and worse upon the humanoids around it, miss sequoia was different. Pausing in place and narrowing her periwinkle peepers as she tried to make sense of what she saw from a more academic perspective, the brow of the beauty furrowed as she attempted to identify the breed of a creature which appeared to mix avian and feline traits, which was both a simple and complicated kind of subject.

Opinicus or epimacu…? Noting quickly that the creature did not have the signature tufted tail bore by the more typical example and for that reason her mental encyclopaedia darting toward topics of rather more significant obscurity, she likely looked like something of a madwoman as she watched the beast seem to crash through the carts and stalls which had been brought to the area to sell food and goods, and perhaps she was that really. After all, a great many people had noted she was something of an odd duck a great many times in her life, right?

Either way, it probably isn't the best idea to let it roam loose, is it? Ultimately not the sort who would have taken the more typical approach to this situation one way or another really, even as the effort of identification seemed to sink in prominence for the pinkette she still did not put too much consideration into some form of escape for herself, and rather seemed to focus herself upon the opposite, in fact.

Happy to act without either in this situation and showing the only mark of responsibility she needed now that she was on her feet in the form of the equine emblem upon her thigh, in place of the tome she had been reading the girl pulled something into her grip which she hoped would prove more effective than bound parchment in the form of the handle of her blade, and then stepped forward with a look of determination to go along with it. After all, no self-respecting member of blue pegasus would stand idle in the face of something like this, right~?

Orbs formed of pure mana erupting from her fingertips in fact and seeming to be hurtled like a precession of rotten vegetables being cast at someone in the stocks, it was true that they would find their mark, which was wonderful, but perhaps mostly for everyone but the young caster that was…

The beast and the space around it left smoking for a moment after the barrage of bullets which had been sent by the blue eyed belle, when the dust settled Sophie found herself looking toward a pair of daggered eyes, and for that reason knew she would need to brace herself as it flung itself toward her but a moment later. Which, perhaps, was a good thing given the briskness it showed.

Good heavens! Caught almost by surprise when it seems to rush her at a speed beyond what she would have expected from a creature like this, she lifted her blade in front of herself in the small series of seconds she had between the brute lurching toward her and its arrival, but rather than lash with it instead holds it across her with her free hand behind it in an effort toward protection.
“Rigorem!” Calling the name of a defensive spell and casting it in barely a moment which seemed fortunate given the circumstance, a wall of mana formed before her to block off the assault which she found herself facing, or at least that was the plan. However, things so often seemed to follow the script, did they?

Gritting her teeth as the beast crashed into her shield with a noticeable crunch, she couldn't help but groan at the force with which the fiend seemed to fling itself, and felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up as her enemy began to dig its heels into the ground in response to the barrier which obstructed it.
“Unfff!” Showing a monstrous degree of strength as the might it could command meant that her shield was beginning to crack against the pressure it created, Sophie hopped backward as a result of the screen shattering in front of her eyes, but still ended up being blasted backward by the brute force of it all and slamming against a wall several meters behind her.

As swift as an eagle… And strong as a lion too! Thankfully her shield seeming to at least limit the attack potential of the move and leave her with only scratches and bumps as a result of the clash, even so the fuchsia fox slumped to the ground woozily and shook her head as she tried to make sense of what had occurred. Yet, in spite of the fact that the world was still spinning around her, she could tell that something wasn't adding up here…

Taking a breath before she drove her sword against the floor like a walking stick after only a moment or two of recovery however, though Miss Sequoia was sure that she could have used another minute or more to fully recover from the dizziness with which she had been inflicted, unfortunately she was not about to be given it. Forced to push her legs back beneath her as she spied her adversary reading itself for a second, this time decides that evasion is the better part of valour, and as such focused her mana toward her feet rather than in front of her this time.

“Celeri!” Still feeling weak at the knees but that not enough to prevent her from kicking her heel off the ground, with the aid of the motion and the magic it created she gave birth to a rush of momentum which seemed her across the tiles of the marketplace, and out of the way of the attack which followed after her just in time. Anything else, including the way that the beast crashed into the wall behind her was a mere bonus, really, but a happy one at that.

Gosh, my head is still spinning~? Stopping a matter of meters away from where the face of the fiend appeared to collide with brick and mortar and offered a moment of relief for that fact, unfortunately the fuchsia fox was only too fast in finding the world seeming to wobble and revolve about her after her sudden spot of exertion, and spent that respite paying for the rush she had been through. Once more feeling her knees buckle as she finds one of her legs giving way beneath her, Sophie was forced to rely on her blade for support again to prevent herself from toppling over entirely, and glanced around her surrounding in the hope that her enemy had knocked itself out with the move. Sadly, it seemed that today was still far from her lucky day.

No time for dizziness! Left to shiver and shake her head however when she heard the monster howl again, this time the lass looked over her shoulder to see a mother clawing for her child who had seemed to stumbled in the square, and provide all too easy a target for the monster, and both of them knew that. For that reason pushing herself back up onto her feet regardless of how she seemed to ache, there was no way a woman like her was going to fail to get between the wretch and its prey, was there?

Not yet, brute! Appearing in place to find the maw of the monster burying itself into her flesh rather than that of either the parent nor child, the brainiac showed she was not lacking for bravery either as she clenched her teeth tightly in an effort to block out the pain as she pushed her weapon forward in a hope of stopping it's charge here and now, even if in the aftermath she might have felt a note of disappointment for the deed she was to perform.

Gave almost as good as it got… Allowing herself to feeling the relief embedded in her intervention when she felt that strength which opposed her seeming to ebb against her effort, Sophie found couldn't help slightly as the beast slumps over, and its hooked jaw seems to slacken. Letting loose a breath as she watched it topple over with her weapon buried deep within its chest, the throbbing in her shoulder only seemed to beg for her to fall down all the more, but the beauty was not about to do that before she was sure of one thing.

“Are you hurt, child…?” Twisting herself around in a manner which only seemed to serve to make her shoulder sting that bit more, the leggy lass no doubt looked a sight as her body and clothes were now soaked with redness, but was glad to see that the slight shape she had moved to defend looked shaken, but alive. Offering a smile as she looked over the shaking soul and nodding toward him, both the woman and the youngster seemed stunned by what she had done, but at the very least they were unharmed.

“I think it's time for you and your mother to run along~” For that reason the fuchsia fox able to head home today with her chest pumped out with pride, no doubt her fellow Pegasi would be eager to know what had happened here, and she would tell them as well. After she'd seen a medic, of course…
