Midnight Breaks [Long | Lore] Empty Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:35 am

Odin †

Name: Midnight Breaks | Gluttony

Difficulty: Long

Participants:

  • Odin (Custom Reward)
  • Tomoe (Custom Reward)
  • Erebus (Monetary Reward)

Story: For years prior to his infiltration of Fairy Tail and the creation of Eternal Nightmare, Odin has possessed one goal in his immortal life: bring back HER. He knows not who SHE truly was, or of HER story, but SHE brought Odin back from the brink of annihilation and so the Lich has worshipped HER ever since, first as a member of Midnight Cult and then as an independent agent, looking to burn the world and gain enough power so as to release HER from her prison and return HER to Earthland truly.

During his time in Midnight Cult, Odin had never been accepting of some of the ways the Bishops (leaders of the cult) operated. They had hidden and acted in the shadows, never showing their faces and trying to complete their missions without ever showing their true faces. The Lich disagreed with this method, as it is how the cult has acted for centuries without any progress in the completion of their goal. The magic council, and all of Earthland, should fear Odin and the followers of HER just as much as they should fear the Goddess herself. That requires a change in management, one Odin has decided to initiate himself.

Objective: Eliminate the bishop of Gluttony and create a temple dedicated to HER.

Name: The Information Broker

Rank: B

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: Before the group travel to the other countries to begin their hunt for the cult bishops, they need to know where they are going. A prominent information broker, who often assisted Midnight Cult, has gone rogue and is willing to sell the names and locations of the bishops to whoever is willing to pay. However, coin won't be enough to satisfy him.

Others:
The Information Broker: No one knows what his name is, however he was once a devout follower of HER and worked with the Midnight Cult many times. He is ageless, and often has more information that you'd expect. He's cut all ties with the guild, and is now running for his life, using what he knows to gain passage out of Fiore.

Enemies: -

Rewards: -

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in Astera Docks - Port Astera.
  • Arrange a secret meeting with the Information Broker, by moving through old channels from the midnight cult.
  • At the meeting, he will explain that the bishops have been hunting him ever since he went rogue, and he now wishes to gain passage out of Fiore towards Iceberg.
  • There is one boat making this trip later that evening, so you'll need to convince, either with force or by bartering, the captain to allow a criminal on his ship. It will not be easy, and he may order his crew to attack you.
  • Once the captain is convinced, no matter the path taken, the Broker will be able to board the ship, and he will hand you a letter with the names and last known locations of the bishops.
  • However, upon opening the letter there will only be one name and location listed. The 'Many-Faced Queen'.

Name: The Many-Faced Queen

Rank: A

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: Having read the letter from the information broker, you have learned of the existence of the 'Many-Faced Queen', an old legend from the Midnight Cult days. She is the gatekeeper of the bishops, and the only person who knows all of them, something even the bishops don't know. Find her, defeat her and learn this information.

Others: -

Enemies:
The Many-Faced Queen: A being many have never heard of, and those who have believe she doesn't exist. Some say she is a a powerful remnant of HER body, while others claim she is a demon bound to the service of the cult. She can take the face of anyone, and send any would-be assailants into madness.

Rewards: -

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in Orias Stone Circle - Worth Woodsea.
  • Having received the letter from the Information Broker, find a way down underground, beneath the stone circle to an ancient burial tomb.
  • As you descend the steps, you will begin to hear voices. All of them will be people you care or once cared about, screaming in pain and terror.
  • Push through to the depths of the tomb, where you will find the Many-Faced Queen.
  • For each participant she will take the face of someone who was once close to them, before showing graphic and horrifying scenes with that person.
  • Fight through to ignore her illusions, at which point she will begin summoning undead and casting spells to destroy you.
  • Defeat her and she will begin screaming before disappearing into a mist. As this happens, you will feel her engraving the true names and locations of the bishops into your mind.
  • Leave the tomb and prepare to fight the first of the bishops.

Name: Sloth

Rank: S

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: With the death of the Many-Faced Queen, there is a slight detour required before facing off against Cornelia, the first Bishop. Perhaps not a true bishop in the same way as the others, but a shade possessing the gospel powers has been located in Dahlia, and has become your first target.

Others: -

Enemies:

Aspect of Sloth: The promise of power once offered to Odin took shape and gained life. The shade, taking the form of a pale old man, is not a foe to be taken lightly. Despite being weaker than some of the other bishops, he still possesses the gospel power of Sloth: affecting the time of the world around him. He can slow down, stop or speed up projectiles, and so escaping his grasp will prove difficult.

Rewards: -

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in Aldenwald - Dahlia City
  • You will have heard recent stories of an unfeeling, unstoppable ghost who moves through the forests at night.
  • Journey into the forests, and you will find a cloaked figure trudging through the marshy ground.
  • Every time you begin to approach the figure, you will feel time slow down around you, and the figure will move away at incredible speeds.
  • On the third attempt, bring out your gospel.
  • Upon seeing the gospel, the figure will turn to face you, removing his cloak.
  • Every spell sent towards him will slow down or simply stop in mid air, while his spells will travel at almost imperceptible speeds.
  • Any time you get within 15m of him, you will feel the affects of his gospel power, setting your own speed to 1 regardless of buffs or boosts.
  • Find a way to defeat the bishop's aspect, at which point it will fade away.
  • Without no indication of who or what the aspect was, leave the forest.

Name: Reconnaissance

Rank: B

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: With the shade of Sloth defeated, it is now time to start working towards defeating Gluttony herself. However, as a prominent member of the nobility in Fiore, going in blind against her would almost certainly prove fatal. Before meeting her head on, you will need to gain some more information about her location, and her schedule.

Others: -

Enemies: -

Rewards: -

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in High Gardens - Era.
  • You will first need to locate the Giustiniani family residence, but ideally without giving away your identity or reasoning.
  • Once located, you will notice that it is incredibly well guarded, even more than the average noble's house would be, likely due to Cornelia's influence as both noblewoman and bishop in Midnight Cult.
  • Infiltrate the manor house, ensuring you are not detected as you look around for Cornelia.
  • Once inside, you will overhear one of the maids talk to a guard about Cornelia's location.
  • You will discover that she is not actually in the manor at the moment, having to leave Fiore on a business trip to Caelum.
  • You will also hear that she will be returning later that week by caravan.
  • With that information gained, as well as the knowledge of her mansion's layout, exfiltrate and consolidate what you have learned.

Name: False Assassination

Rank: A

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: You have decided that attacking Cornelia while she is in transit is a better choice than trying to face her head on in her house. Having learned the caravan route, you plan on surprising her with your attacks, and finally removing her from the equation. It should be as simple as that, right?

Others: -

Enemies:
Gluttony's Retinue x3: The three strongest guards in service to Cornelia. They are the only ones aware of her position as bishop of Midnight Cult, and have been given unique abilities as a reward for their service. Alone they are a force to be reckoned with, together they are rumoured to be almost unstoppable.

Rewards: -

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in Main Gates - Era.
  • You will have heard that Cornelia will be returning through the gates from her trip to Caelum.
  • Prepare to ambush her as she makes her way through the gates, having paid off some of the more corrupt rune knights to keep the area clear.
  • As the two caravans, accompanied by some standard guards, make their way through the gates, spring the trap.
  • It will be revealed that Cornelia is not there, having laid an ambush to deal with you after learning about the Many-Faced Queen's demise.
  • Instead, it is her three incredibly powerful guards who are waiting for you. A Demi-Human, a Neko and a Daemon.
  • All three of the guards have been given powerful abilities through Cornelia's influence.
  • The Demi-Human has natural flight and can paralyze you with his unique brand of poison magic.
  • The Neko can move at incredible speeds, and makes use of her sharp claws to rend the flesh of her foes.
  • The Daemon has incredible strength and durability, and can reshape the ground you're standing on with his attacks.
  • Defeat the three guards, and gain whatever information you can from them.
  • Instead of assisting you, any guards left alive for interrogation will activate a magic seal on their person, instantly bursting into flames and turning to ash before they can be of any use.

Name: Gluttony

Rank: S

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: You've managed to uncover the names and locations of each of the bishops, and the first one can be found in Fiore. The bishop of Gluttony resides with the nobles in Era, journey there and end her life. Beware though, as she possesses the gospel powers and there is no way to know exactly what she might be capable of.

Others: -

Enemies:

Cornelia Giustiniani: Noblewoman and the bishop of Gluttony, Cornelia holds the power of devouring. She can consume anything: spells, memories, even entire existences, and use them against her opponents. However, once something is consumed by her power, the original owner forgets it, which has given her an abundant source of power during her time as the bishop.

Rewards: -

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in High Gardens - Era.
  • It's is time to strike directly against Cornelia, requiring you to enter the Giustiniani mansion grounds.
  • Once inside, alarms will be set off and guards will come running. After all, Cornelia already knows you are coming. The guards are insignificant and can be defeated with ease.
  • Cornelia will watch the conflict from the sidelines, applauding her assailants once the fight has ended.
  • Once her guards are defeated and you are alone with her, she will unleash her bishop powers and begin casting numerous spells without hesitation.
  • Any spells, abilities or items used against her will be consumed by her power, allowing Cornelia to use them against you.
  • If given the chance, she will consume one of you, erasing your existence from the topic and gaining all of your abilities.
  • Break her down and kill her, which will cause all things to return to normal. People will exist once more and all abilities will return to their owners.
  • Collect her gospel and take it with you, signifying the first of the deceased bishops.

Name: A New Chapter

Rank: B

Type: Bad

Participants:

  • Odin
  • Erebus
  • Tomoe

Summary: The first of the bishops is dead, and you know that alone will already have implications in dealing with the remaining two. Before venturing to the other countries to find Sigmund and Edward, it is time to return to Oak, pray to HER at the shrine erected in the Eternal Nightmare Guildhall, and receive your reward.

Others: -

Enemies: -

Rewards:

  • 1x Legendary custom coupon for Odin
  • 1x Legendary custom coupon for Tomoe

Objectives:

  • Create a topic in Eternal Nightmare Guild Hall - Oak City.
  • Having killed the first bishop, return to Oak.
  • At the founding of Eternal Nightmare, a shrine to HER was created by Odin to keep her blessing close to the Lich.
  • Enter the room, and place the dead bishop's gospel on the shrine.
  • HER voice will appear in your minds, praising your commitment and wishing to reward you. The collected gospel will rise into the air, and split into two collections of energy.
  • From the energy, two items and a surge of power will imbue themselves within the party before the black book, now empty of words, will return to the shrine, taking its place in a magically created insert. Two more empty inserts will also be created, beckoning you to hunt down the remaining bishops in the future.
  • Accept your gifts and leave.

Bumping for edited storyline. Jyu stated that each main Bishop required their own specific Long Storyline to be defeated

  • It mentions both Sloth and Gluttony. One bishop per storyline.

  • No to changing Oakland Church in A New Chapter.

Sloth is not one of the Bishops. The only bishops created for MC were Gluttony, Greed and Wrath. However, since Sloth was one of the more unique bishop magics I still wanted to include an enemy with that power. They were never an NPC.

Changing Oakland Church is the main reason behind this storyline being Site Impacting, as it says "Storylines can influence whole subforums" and I've previously been told this would allow changing a location in a city in some way

Okay to the first. No to the latter. It already impacts lore by being allowed to murder a NPC.

While it is true that I'm taking out NPCs that have had accounts made for them, those specific NPCs have never, and realistically will never, be used.

After all, Bishop of Wrath Sigmund was literally created as Crown prince of Bosco. The fact that the site plot about to release, specifically surrounding the heirs to the Bosco throne, does not include him shows that these NPC accounts are not going to be used even when site plot perfectly aligns with the characters they were created to be.

I'm not killing the king of fiore or any other character that would have site wide implications. I am killing off NPCs that are never going to be used, and who's existence has only ever impacted the PC characters that are going to be present in the storyline.

Still counts. Change to Oakland Church is also not interesting. A place of worship to Morrigan basically makes it a personal location for you and Tomoe.

Well yeah that's the point of doing a lore altering storyline. It can turn a forum's sub-location into something of your choosing. In this case it is changing a church dedicated to Illumin into a church dedicated to Morrigan.

So I can't change the church because I'm removing dead characters that will never actually be used from the site?
