Luluhawa Island Description: A remote island in the South sea, Luluhawa is a peaceful, paradisiac place, only scarcely developed as of recent years owing to recent contact with immigrants from various countries in Earthland. A volcanic island, the still active volcano stands tall at the center of the island as its most imposing landmark. Surrounded by lush, verdant tropical woodlands and pristine beaches all around, the island often attracts visitors from abroad, especially during summer. With a native population of roughly 100,000 these numbers fluctuate widely as many of the islanders venture off into long fishing trips, while tourists come to visit every now and then. Luluhawa is mostly untouched by civilization save for the few most populated cities, and it's still possible for people to find remote, untouched beaches in various secluded spots around the island, as well as deserted islets right off shore. Surrounded by clear blue ocean as far as the eye can see, the island's inhabitants live off the sea and revere it as part of their culture, respecting its might and that of the creatures who dwell in it, knowing that even the hardiest of sailors are helpless in the face of daunting tropical storms. Localization: The second largest island of the Aumakua archipelago in the South Sea, Luluhawa is part of a chain of volcanic islands isolated in the middle of the ocean, with no continent to be found for miles away. As a tropical island, the weather mainly consists of two seasons throughout the year, wet and dry season, where sweltering sunny days give way to torrential rainstorms that wash away the land nearly overnight and turn those calm waters into imposing waves that only the bravest sailors dare traverse. The heat is constant all year round though, and plentiful sunshine gives way to lush vegetation and sprawling woodlands, teeming with life. An isolated society cut off from the rest of the world, it has little need for law enforcement or militaries save for odd scuffles between clans Politics: As a small and isolated, bountiful island, there is little need for a King or Queen. The population is spread out across various villages, each led by an elected chief. The village head scarcely interferes in the day to day life of the village, and is simply called upon to settle disputes or to speak for the village as a whole when communicating with their neighbours. When the head of the village passes, a new Chief is elected from among the most respectable members of each clan. Despite this, the village chief carries himself as one of the people, resulting in a communal, egalitarian lifestyle among the islands. Intergenerational wealth transfer is equally frowned upon. In more recent years, influence from immigrants has influenced their lifestyle into resembling some larger countries in Earthland. The biggest city on the island displays this difference clearly, with its chief often speaking for the island as a whole much as a King would. Economy: Completely self sufficient, the citizens of Luluhawa live in complete harmony with their environment, subsisting off the sea's bounty first and foremost with small, isolated crops complimenting what they can gather and hunt in the wilderness. What contact they have with the outside world mostly revolves around the other islands in the archipelago, with which they trade fish, lumber and other materials. Outside the archipelago, the island's main exports revolve around fish, tourism and local craftsmanship. Culture: As a seafaring culture of explorers, Luluhawan islanders revere the sea and its bounty. Expert navigators, their ancestors arrived on this island from distant lands, Young people of marriable age are encouraged to find a partner on a different village to reduce inbreeding, and braver people venture to other islands in the archipelago, or further still, risking their lives in brave adventures out at sea in search of new land. Luluhawa Island Aloha. The oldest of Luluhawan chants describes the Luluhawa Island, the spirits that inhabit them, the forces of nature that shaped them, and all the living things upon them as inextricably connected. This sense of connection is the foundation of Luluhawan culture: understanding that they all have a mandate to care, to care for their environment and for one another. The spirit is expressed through chant, music, hula, arts, cultural practices, and the warm, genuine greetings that are a hallmark of Luluhawan hospitality. Culture Honi Ihu: The honi ihu, or the touching of noses, is a traditional method of greeting one another, whether it's a man and woman, two men or two women. It allows both people to exchange breath, which is the supremely important life force in Luluhawan understanding, and also share scents and convey a closeness in relationship. Lei: Made out of flowers, bird feathers, shells, seeds, hair, or ivory, the lei (garland or wreath) has become a symbol of Luluhawa. Worn on the top of the head or around the neck, lei are used ornamentally by Luluhawans, especially chiefs, to signify their rank. Giving a lei is a traditional practice, but not like the ceremonious welcome practice that has become the local custom today. The manner of presenting was also different: it was tied around the neck, rather than casting the lei over the head, respecting the sacredness of a person’s head and back. Malama Aina: A coveted value, malama aina (take care of the land) upholds the strong connection Luluhawans have to the land. It provides food, nourishment, and sustainability, so it is a profound privilege and duty, or kuleana, to take care of it in return by being great stewards, so that everyone, including future generations, can thrive from the bounty of the islands’ natural resources. Superstitions: Don't take rocks or sand from the beach or lava rocks from a volcano. Superstition says that people who take them will be cursed, which probably gets its roots from the high esteem Luluhawan culture has for rocks. In a lithic culture, stones are used for many things, such as tools, fences, and housing - they can even be forms of deities. Leaving rocks as you found them is the best practice. Domain Luluhawa Island is under the protection of Alisa Vollan, the Blue Pegasus Guildmaster. Locations

The Deadliest Catch As a small, remote island in the middle of the Ocean, its residents subsist on fishing first and foremost. With brave sailors and waters teeming with fish, every haul brings plenty to the entire island, no matter how far they need to venture to find wandering schools of fish ripe for the picking. Though even the hardiest of fishermen tremble at the sight of unseen dangers, lurking in the deep. At times, menacing ocean dwellers swim past the island, lured in by the never ending penty of the sea surrounding the bountiful coral reefs around the island. Powerful enough creatures can easily threaten the wooden fishing vessels of the islanders, and the more advanced ships brought by foreign fishermen. At times like these, the islanders' age old wisdom teaches them to avoid the deeper waters until the creature leaves. But those not born in the island lack such patience or time to wait around. They're constantly on the lookout for capable fishermen, or even fighters of sufficient caliber to kill a sea dwelling leviathan and bring in the biggest catch of their lives. Even among the Luluhawan locals, there are many who have enough experience and capabilities to challenge the beast, with only their traditions to hold them back. There's no shortage of opportunities here, and though nobody has specifically asked you, merely walking around the docks makes it clear many would pay handsomely for a chance take on the sea monster, some less scrupulous than others. All you have to do is muster your courage and prepare for the fishing trip of a lifetime. Quest Details

Pegasus Summer Fest X794 Throughout their seafaring adventures in recent months, Alisa and Sofia discovered the paradisiac island of Luluhawa, located in the middle of the ocean. Remote and woefully unexplored, the island's warm, welcoming weather, soft white sands and clear blue waters welcome travellers to stay and relax for a much needed vacation. After the Guild Master of Blue Pegasus became the island's guardian, the guild relocated their yearly summer festival there to promote the island of Luluhawa as a place worth visiting. Plot result: The island of Luluhawa becomes known as a vacation spot throughout Fiore and the rest of the known world to a lesser extent. Frequent lines connect the island to Hargeon by sea, allowing frequent travel.

General Name: Ichika Harukatsu. Age: 11/11/X769 (25) Gender: Female Sexuality: Bisexual Ethnicity, Father: Joyan Ethnicity, Mother: Joyan Class: Summoner Race: Human Rank: D-rank Guild: None Tattoo: None Face: Kaguya Hourasin-Touhou. Appearance Height: 5’4 Weight: 28 pounds Hair: Black Eyes: Black Overall: The features of her face are reserved and neutral. Possessed of an unnaturally pale pallor and equally unnatural lack of blemishes, although this is as much due to her lack of exposure to the elements as it is her own unique physiology. Finally, her face is rather soft in general, slightly pudgy and a little bit fatty around the cheeks. The only exception to this softness is her chin ending rather sharply and her eyes always seeming to have a frustrated scowl to them. Her body is soft, fatty, and undeveloped. She does not exercise, go outside or really move her limbs and it shows. A lack of muscle, a noticeable layer of fat, slender limbs and…a generous chest, to put it simply. She also sports the black hair that characterises her family, even if it is a rather common colour. Her fashion sense mostly consists of traditional Joyan garb, namely kimonos. Big ones. She hides as much of her arms, body and legs beneath thick layers of clothing as she can. Pink is a pretty common colour in her wardrobe but so is gold, purple, yellows and a great deal of pastel colours. However, she also likes jewellery and rather a lot of it… Extra: N/A Personality Personality: Ichika is one thing and one thing only: lazy. She doesn’t want to work. She doesn’t want to do anything. She doesn’t want to have to put effort into anything. As one might expect, this means she’s just very chill and relaxed as a person. Calm almost. Her lazy attitude seeps into all parts of her character, often resulting in her being a very low energy and unmotivated individual on top of just generally being rather calm and relaxed. However, she’s utterly and completely selfish. Entitled even. She thinks that what she wants, she should get and that people should be grateful she gives them the opportunity to serve her. She truly does have the persona of a spoiled brat but it’s, to a certain extent, deserved. She is very much a rich girl and was raised with a very narrow minded and elitist sense of expectations of what her life would be like. …hasn’t stopped her from being a bit of a brat though. She’s a spoiled princess. Her entire ego is constructed around the idea that she, inherently, is better than everybody and anybody. You should pamper, adore and love her. She’s a princess after all! Everyone’s princess! If the princess deigns you with her attention to ask for all your worldly treasures, you should be honoured to give them. If she asks you to die for her, it’s a glory. The idea that people value things for the sole purpose of giving them to her is a simple truism. Yet, there is actually a reason for her to have such high pride in herself. She is highly intelligent, possessed of a wit and intellect that puts everybody to shame. Her body may be a lazy and undeveloped thing but her mind…? Her mind is sharp, possessed of a cutting wit and viper tongue and she has absolutely no issue giving her lessers a deserved tongue lashing which is pretty much everyone except herself. She has very black and white views of the world. Finally, she’s a very…whimsical princess. Her wants change on the hour, her preferences are always fluid and her desires rarely remain consistent and the reason for this? It’s not just because she purposely puts on a difficult persona to drive people away. It’s because of fear. The very idea of revealing true details about who she is a person terrifies her. She doesn’t like getting to know people. She doesn’t like bonding with people. Intimacy is her biggest fear. None of this stops her from one thing though: she’s a good businesswoman. Her parents are both extremely wealthy merchants and it definitely runs in the blood. Couple the natural instincts for finding a good bargain or profit with the vast amount of time she’s studied doing business and Ichika is the girl you’d want to run a business with. Likes:

Statistics Strength: 4 Speed: 5 Constitution: 5 Endurance: 5 Intelligence: 11 Magic Magic Name: Hyakki Yagyo-the night parade of one hundred Yokai Magic Element: Darkness Magic Enhancement: Additional Summon Spell Type-debuff. Magic Description: A magic formed around contracts, with summons that often demand some form of compensation. Be it wealth, material goods, luxury items or human blood, none of the creatures summoned by Hyakki Yagyo come without a cost. Ah, but what creatures does it allow one to summon? Easy: Yokai. The Night Parade of One Hundred Yokai is exactly that, a parade of Yokai led by a Nurarihyon which is in fact Ichika’s first contract. History History: Ichika comes from a rich background. Born to a very well off pair of Joyan merchants, she was raised in the absolute lap of luxury with access to extravagances that rivalled even what the ruling class had access to, for so great was her family’s wealth. It is this upbringing that brought about Ichika’s bratty and egotistical nature, for she was raised in a world where she was very much at the top of the world. Even if the Joyan social structure was geared towards samurai, daimyo and shogun, that did not stop Ichika’s family from accruing wealth. However, that is not to say her life was just sitting on her ass in the absolute lap of luxury. Her parents had expectations for her, namely to take on the family business, and in this we discover why Ichika wishes to be loved so much. Her parents never did, focusing on running their business and keeping the family’s finances solvent only really spending time with their daughter when it came to her education and dinner time. Outside of that, it was mostly nannies and servants that raised Ichika. Perhaps this lack of guidance from her parents, and mostly being left to her own devices and the attentions of caretakers, was the reason for her magic. No, it absolutely is. Her parents had no clue how to teach their daughter magic, nor did any of the teachers they had hired, and so she was left to just experiment. It was this experimentation, as well as a coach ride gone wrong, that lead Ichika to forming a contract with the Nurarihyon by the name of Asashi She granted Ichika a contract, bound in blood between the two, granting her access to her little black book of Yokai, as well as the knowledge in how to summon them. As a bonus, she was also kind enough to show Ichika the path back to civilisation. A fortunate thing too, for being killed in the wilderness by bandits, Ronin or wild animals was not high on Ichika’s agenda. Now we come to the present, where Ichika has essentially been sent on a studying trip, having been given enough funds to get her to Fiore and start up a small trading company. She’s got a year to turn a profit on her parent’s investment or she won’t be coming home. Reference: N/A. |
