Even the sunny south can be brisk, huh? The wild winds of a mountain whipping around long locks that looked a to be a blend of caramel and coffee, despite the strength of a summer sun in the sky Sofia Serena couldn’t help but quiver as the mountain air bombarded her, but for the most part found that the discomfort they caused was more refreshing than wholly stifling.
Though when one is used to the warmth of the White Empress, you can hardly blame other things for feeling frosty, can you~?  Used to catching freshness that was far more blizzard-like than the one she faced today whilst she was on the back of her magnificent mount, the young woman shook her head and pulled her hands back through those loose locks to restrain them in the comfort of a nice neat plait, before returning her attention toward the task at hand with a small smirk on her face as she thought of something that was sure to keep her warm.

Now, Let’s see what we have here? Pushing the pair of specially lensed spectacles a little closer to her brow as she did so, as her stallion of the sky flapped his wings in a fashion that seemed rather gentle compared to the mighty manner in which he might have beaten them if they were shooting their way through the air to another town, Sofia hovered in the air on the back of her beautiful boy and hummed as she looked either side of his mane.
If I were a bandit, where might I hide~?  That green gaze that the girl carried growing tighter as she looked through that special glass which allowed her to see through the little acts of mysticism that hid items from eyes that folk did not wish to be seen, as she did so the girl ran the tip of her finger up and down one of the stems of her elegant eyewear not to give her any kind of specific effect or advantage, but simply as an act of idleness as she searched for something in the steps of the steepness beneath her.

Now that looks promising, doesn’t it~? That green gaze of the girl narrowing as she spied what looked to be a plume of smoke rising from the cover of a jagged looking slope, with a smirk on her lips and a sense of excitement in her heart our young heroine cracked her reigns and twisted her body to turn her winged wonder in the direction of her dubious destination, and all too quickly was grinning as she did so. The mighty mount she sat astride swifter than any arrow could be, Sofia pulled on the strap she used to guide him almost as if she wanted to make the most of this short burst of speed and swerved from side to side as she did so, clinging close to slants and walls in an effort of stealth and simply to savour the sweetness of her ride at the same time.

Sweeping across the steepness of the steps with a kind of reckless spirit that loosed a few pebbles beside her in her charge, finally she arrived at the spot she had sought and to her great relief discovered her suspicions to be correct as she found a small fire giving off a nice chimney of blackness, and more than a few souls standing around it and if she had to guess trying to look menacing as she approached them.
“My name is Sofia Serena, of Blue Pegasus, and I come to parley~?” Smiling as she guided her superb stallion down into a nice open space nearby and then swung her leg to leave his saddle, as so very many pairs of eyes seemed to look in her direction and show so very many shades of feeling and thinking the brunette beamed happily and tried to look relaxed as she greeted them, not looking for trouble if she could avoid it, but certainly not unprepared if it happened to her given the way her hand would rest on the steely shaft she had attached to her belt…

“Blue Pegasus would be wise not to send little girls to do their dirty work…
Us mountain men don’t see many faces that pretty in these parts, and have little compulsion to curb our desire toward them when we do~?”

One of the gruffer sounding souls around the fire seeming to be the first to speak up and even going so far as to leave his position move closer toward her, as he strolled toward Sofia with a rather heavy looking axe hung over his shoulder he ran his hand down a rough bunch of bristles that seemed to very much be airing more on the side of a beard than a stubble situation, and made no effort to hide the hungry manner in which he looked her over once he drew near. His attention carrying a rather clear intention, while he clearly wanted to intimidate her there was something else in his gaze that made the skin of the siren crawl with discomfort, and she found that sensation worsening as he got all up close in her face and reached forward to rest his finger beneath her chin.

“Oh well it’s nice of you to note my pretty face~?” The beautiful brunette doing what she could to try and hide her revulsion at such an act and instead batting her lashes playfully in order to deny this fool the satisfaction he clearly desired by acting so big and tough, with one hand still holding the unusual weapon that sat at her waist Miss Serena used the other slowly and gracefully to grasp that meaty mitt, and make sure he knew he had made a mistake in placing a hand upon her.

“But you should know, Blue Pegasus would never send just any little girl~” Touching that rough skin with her own softness delicately for a moment before wrenching the thumb of the thug in a manner that was meant to inflict maximum punishment, the vixen from Valerica kept her sweet and soft smile as she did so and readily anticipated the reply he would give, which she responded to speedily with a slice of her blade. That shaft of steely substance suddenly igniting as she swung it through the air to meet the maul that this mountain menace and cleaving its head as they crashed in a clash, all too quickly her foe had been disarmed and the not so dainty delight was looking to his fellows to see if any of them fancied their chances with a simple island girl like her…

“Now, as I see it, what we have here is a failure to communicate~?” Sighing softly and wrenching that wrist and thumb of the fool who had stepped up to her that bit harder in order to bring him to his knees, Miss Serena whirled her sizzling sabre around a couple of times before disengaging the magically created blade for the time being so as not to seem wholly threatening, but rather a woman who was in control of the situation that was laid out before her without being overbearing about it. At least not too much so at least.
“This man here thought that force was the answer, and maybe it is? But I think it doesn’t have to be~?” Looking over the grounded shape of the brute and shaking her head a little at his approach before thrusting him a few meters away with a firm push, the emerald enchantress raised her hands and wanted to assure the people around her both with her words and actions that violence was only the answer that would be found if that is the way they wanted it, and hoped that they were smart enough to know when to stay their blades and bludgeons in order for everyone to benefit in the end.

“Blue Pegasus is entering into an accord with the masters of Myras, and they wish for the problems you and your fellows have been causing to be put to an end~?” The superb steed she had beside her fluttering his wings a little at the mention of her guild as the green girl laid out the reason she had come here, Sofia decided it was best to be as honest as she could be in her reason for being here, even if it did seem to make some of the faces she saw around her scowl and hands pat their weapons.
“What that end is, is open to debate? And I for one would prefer it to be bloodless, however… If you’d rather take another path, feel free to change my mind~?” Happy to engage them in battle if that was what they wanted but ultimately not here to hurt these people but do what she could to help them, perhaps the siren showed a lingering sense of naiveté in the manner in which she dealt with folk who had been a problem for both city and state before them, but as she looked at them huddling around a fire even in early summer the brunette couldn’t help but sympathize with their plight.

“So what is it you want from us, then, Sofia of Blue Pegasus?”

One voice among the crowd at least seeming to show that they were willing to listen to her, while it took her a second to spy who had asked her of her demands among the number that were gathered Sofia was still glad to note at least one person seemed reasonable, or at least inquisitive enough to let her carry on, and it seemed to help the rest as well. A couple of heads turning and shouldering their weapons rather than gripping them menacingly, while it was not a terribly strong show of hospitality it was at least a step away from hostility, and something that she could take advantage of at least for a moment or two longer.

“What I want… What I would like is for us to find a way in which we can all walk away from this situation as winners?” Pausing and considering the question she had been asked carefully for a second with her hands placed together in front of her, Miss Serena considered the query carefully as she wanted to give the best answer she could, and did so even if her initial reply seemed a little vague.

“You people are big and strong, and you know these mountains like the back of your hands, I’d reckon? Better than anyone in the city, or the country I’d say?” Readily recognising the asset that these men could be if put to the right use, while they had been something of a nuisance to the local area with their aggression one had to note their expertise in many areas, including their capacity to elude the local watch thus far which spoke volumes of their skills.
“So why don’t you make the most of that?” In her mind those abilities ample if they had been put to a less than wholesome use thus far, Sofia could guess a much better use for their skills that she suspected them and the people in the city had never thought of, and would be happy to enlighten them if they gave her a chance. After all, shouldn’t people be making the best of themselves, and being all they could be?

“You’d make a lot more money and live a lot better if you used your heads and the rich master’s pockets to your own advantage?” Tilting her head and shrugging once she was done singing the praises of the people in front of her and then laying down a little line of logic that seemed almost too sweet to be true, to the marvellous mind of Miss Serena there seemed a perfect solution that could be of a benefit both to the mighty mountain men and the masters of the merchant city nearby, though she suspected it was one they would both be unlikely to suspect and feel resistant to following, so she knew the needed a bit more punch to it.
“The Rune Knights abandoned this land, both the master’s and some of you, I’d guess, and now everyone is struggling because of that?” Lifting her hands and turning around as she pointed out what had been the greatest problem to blight the land in recent times, even when one considered the presence of demons erupting into the realm and threatening those in it the lack of support from the capital seemed to win out in terms of effect, and that was simply because of how long it had gone on. Both the people of Myras and these people on the peaks that surrounded it dropped like a sack of rotten spuds when the royals found them inconvenient, they had one thing in common, and hopefully that was enough to show them a simple bond between them.

“So what’s the point in fighting each other? Why not take your strength and their money and make this a place that never needs the whim of some flaky royal to protect it again?” The two groups definitely coming from widely different places despite the proximity of their settlements but that never seeming like a bad thing, in a world of supply and demand it seemed to Sofia that they could both supply what the other demanded. Security for each really, in varying terms of course.
“Blue Pegasus believes we can negotiate a deal that gets a roof over your heads, food in your bellies and money in your pocket, all while giving the people of the city and those you call your family the safety they need to grow and prosper?” And the siren and her cohorts happy to act as brokers for the deal that needed to be made here, to the mind of the mermaid it seemed foolish to have two sides coveting what the other seemed to have in spades, and not indulge a spirit for cooperation. What these people made of it, however, remained to be seen.

“So what’s in it for you?
Why come here with the promise of milk and honey, eh?”

The words of the witch seeming like they were enough to get the mind of the men around her moving at the very least, as the air grew quiet and many faces seemed to look to the ground beneath them as they considered the issue a voice spoke up, shyly at first but with quickly increasing conviction. At least one in their number showing that they had the sense to take a promise that offered so very much and add a little salt to it before swallowing it down, it seemed that someone had a very valid and cautious question to ask of the interests of the lass, and Sofia nodded as she considered it and decided to lay out her rationale rather frankly. After all, there was no point lying now because the truth was likely to ruin the situation later.

“Because we’re going to get paid either way, but we’d rather have friends than enemies? We’d rather have people who know these mountains and the problems in them on our side, rather than someone else’s?” The foreign femme finding her arms lifting and shoulders bobbing again as she responded to the issue rather frankly, she made no bones about the fact that regardless of the outcome the guild would come away with money and favour from their wealthy new ‘friends’ in town, but was quick to point out that was not their only interest. Shaking her head as she pointed out how simply going for a brutal cash grab was rather small thinking that only benefitted the short term, while it would certainly have been easier for them to mount up a few decent mages and drive away the people before her and those like them, it really did feel like a waste.

“Besides, those so called masters are a pompous bunch, it’s more in our interest to make sure there’s at least a few fun folk up here in the mountains?” Not only that but the emerald enchantress always possessing something of a distaste for those who flaunted money and authority due to how she had been raised, she would have been lying if she didn’t want to give these people a chance in order to stiff the prissy prats a little, as was her way.

“We’re not the enemy, and you’re not the enemy either…” Shaking her head as she defiantly declared that there was no real reason that they needed to end up fighting, or at least not one that seemed to matter to her, Sofia was happy to forgive the past transgressions of these people provided they were willing to work toward a better future, and confident that she could convince her cohorts to see things in a similar way once she was given the chance.
“So why not give working together a chance, and take the risk of getting a better life while you’re at it? No more trying to make ends meets living off what the rocks can offer and those who have the misfortune to stumble into your traps?” All that really stood in opposition of the efforts of the emerald eyed enchantress being the hearts and minds of the people here and those who made up the communities of camps similar to this one, though it was probably true that the foreign fox was probably understating the degree of the challenges she and they might face in reaching a peaceful and profitable solution in future she wholeheartedly believed that it was a far greater and far easier way to go about things rather than butting heads and waving clubs, and so was the obvious solution to everyone’s problem because of that.

“I know it’s not an easy choice to make, so I don’t expect an answer right away…?” Understanding how difficult it was to change people’s minds however, especially about their way of life, and deciding that because of that one needed period of grace and reflection, the green eyed girl closed her eyes and shook her head before offering the people she saw the chance to mull over what she had said with the minimal pressure.
“So you have three days. In three days, at sunrise I’ll be back with a few friends, and we can either bring you to the city with us or… Well I’d rather not think about that?” Nodding as she confirmed their deadline before taking a step or two closer to her steed and pausing, Miss Serena implored the bunch to make the kind of choice that would benefit them all, since she really didn’t want to attack them one little bit. In fact, as churlish as some of them seemed she kind of admired the grit and determination it took to live in a place like this.

“So that’s the deadline? Tell your friends…” Sighing softly and nodding at several faces nearby as she confirmed the date of destiny one last time and encouraged the group to pass the message on to as many as they could do, Miss Serena was shrewd enough to suspect that this small gathering was more of vanguard than the majority of their manpower, and wanted to make sure that nobody who might be interested in the offer she had would be left behind by it.
“You have three days to think about it, go someplace else, or stick around and do what you will. But think about it, about your futures in this time?” Perhaps by this stage sounding like a broken record as she offered them advice but this only really a reflection of her enthusiasm for find a better way to work through the problems of the bandits than brutality, as the brunette took a few more steps toward her heavenly horse our heroine paused and made an effort to impress upon the gang the importance she felt in her plan, and thought that while it was perfectly reasonable they might ignore her that she had done her best here to help them change their fate from something grisly that deep down she knew none of them wanted.

“And here, if you wanna make a new life for yourself somewhere, here…” One more thought occurring to Sofia as she reached her saddle however, once she neared her superb stallion she ran her fingers through the mane of her marvellous mount before fetching something from one of the bags that were attached to her seat, and throwing it on the ground at the feet of the fellows near the fire.
“That’s the down payment they gave me for this job? Imagine the money they’d give to make sure someone like me never has to do it again…?” Loose purse strings and a clattering clink quickly revealing what was in it as well, shining silver burst forth from the pouch rather eagerly once the green girl had done so and sat glistening in the sunlight, to act as an ‘investment’ in future success from the femme. Certainly not the sort of soul who tended to spend all that much time lingering over the prize she received from missions and especially not when it was one of monetary means, the mermaid hummed as she swung her leg back over her splendid stallion and looked toward the group before she took off, hoping that her words would have had an impact on them and that after a few days of indulging the wise master’s hospitality she would return and find them willing to take the route of peace rather than pride…

~Three and a bit days later~

The passage of time finding Sofia standing in the sunset as she watched a bunch of shabby clothed shapes step toward a warm welcome by the watch of this strange steely city, though she had hung around to ensure that both parties lived up to their end of the agreement the brunette was happy to see that her suspicion proved unfounded, and was happy with the results of her action. Naturally the crafty masters of the mountain metropolis seeming to offer a rather substantial decrease in her gains given the situation but ultimately agreeing with her ideas, albeit somewhat begrudgingly, as far as she was concerned this was the best outcome there could be, since these folk certainly looked like they could use a little more generosity in their life than her.

“Are you sure this was a good idea, Sofia?
What if they try and cause trouble now they’re in there?”

Not everyone seeming to share her optimism however, and one of the cadre of figures that she had brought from the port of Hargeon seeming to show a little doubt as he stood next to her, nervousness echoed through the tone of one of her guild mates as they watched the outcome together but thankfully did not prove all that infectious.
“You know I don’t think they will? They just got a little lost, not bad people on the whole?” For her part Miss Serena remaining staunch in her belief that these bandits could change and become more than they might ever have hoped with a little understanding and hope, she shook her head at the question and smiled as she reaffirmed her faith in them.

“The mountains are cold and hard, and make you that way? Now they’ve been given the chance to feel a little warmth, well… I can only hope they’ll blossom because of it?” Ultimately reasoning that people would respond to their situation and that if you gave them a chance to grow then they might surprise you, the foreign femme watched on with a sense of positivity at how the fortune of these folks might change now they had been given a proper chance at life, and was also blessed with enthusiasm at both the chances of the city and her guild because of what she had done here. Purveyors of beauty and there nothing more moving than a tale of redemption, with any luck she had stirred something up that would provide a bounty of magnificence in the future like planting the sapling of a sakura tree, and she had the patience to wait and see the wonder it might bloom into…
