It was a cold spring night. The moon hid away from the dark world. Clouds roamed the black sky. Not a single star dared shed light onto the lonely world. It was here that Tempris roamed the roads of Marigold alone with a bright grin on her face. See, she was on her own again. Due to a series of misfortunate events, Empyrean Divine was gone. Tempris could not bear to say goodbye. While she now had a family for 2 years, she only spent a brief bit of time with them all together. It was just a blimp, a minor moment of wonder only to be ripped out by some unknown force. Karisa was right. There was no way a girl like her could be devoted to things as frail as family while keeping up with her mission.

Her heart hurt. Chills ran around her body. Yet, she could not stop smiling.

She could now stop quietly giggling to herself. How great was it to be free from Karisa's rules. How refreshing was it to not have to care about the opinions of sinners. How revitalizing was it to be able to live a life dedicated to one's life mission.

How special she was that fate would rip her away from everything so coldly so that she could return to the warmth under the sun. The girl folded her arms giggling. "Warmth is love. Warmth is love." It was the girls typical chant.

It was at this time that the sound of footsteps broke the cruel silence which cultured the mitosis of empty cold thought. The girl stopped and simply looked back to see a dark figure running away from a series of bright lights. Screams for help became auditable as what she assumed the man was able to recognize her existence from the stray lights which hunted him.

Upon coming closer, she could make out sweat and heavy breathes. He was not going to be able to run any longer. Faith had awarded him one final chance to change his fate and he would not question if it was for better or for worse. The man would grab hold to the thread of hope in front of him and stop behind the girl. Tempris watched the man seeking the first excuse to act. Wait... she did not need that any more. She could just save the man right now.

But the series of lights proved to be too distracting for her instincts so she turned her head to the banquet of sin before her.
"So... bright... but there is no warmth. No warmth at all. It is sad. It is suffering. True absolute suffering."

The lights were revealed to be a mob of people with their pitch forks.

The man was a bit confused but at the end of the day, his life was not in danger anymore. So he just hugged the girl, thanking her for saving him. Tempris froze. The man was cold, heretical, suffering. She needed to cleanse him too but the man mentioned something akin to a job. So she held off her instincts for a bit longer to hear him out.

See, he was a performer but not just any performer. He was the great "Master of Living Fire." Tempris tilted her head confused. Not only had she never heard of him, but it seemed pretty silly that the "Master of Living Fire" would be afraid of a few torches. Like could he not Master the Fire of the mob against the folk? She stayed quiet though, at least regarding this point. Instead, she asked a simple question.
"Why were you running?"

The man gave a hearty laugh before reciting a long and dull story about how was practicing a trick where he jumped into fire and jumped out unharmed while other things he was holding were burning away and crumbling.

They were filled with this unknown furry which brought forth with it a blizzard of emotions. In other words, they were filled with sin and amassed a great collection of suffering. So much that she could not simply ignore it. No, the girl would just giggle before holding out her hand. As if she was holding a sword, she swung her arm vertically and a magic circle appeared under the mob. Before they could react, a wave of blue and white flames engulfed them and greedily ripping the sin and heresy from their very souls. This emptiness would be replaced with a loving warmth of salvation. There would be no screaming, no suffering, just another successful baptism.

"Ah... mister. Are you still there? I was worried your suffering had done more harm." Tempris turned around with a worried expression. The man before her was a bit startled, quickly asking what happened to the mob.

Tempris however already dosed off and stopped listening since it was all dumb in her head. Plus the man spoke way too much. He would be better cleansed of his sins. "Sorry mister... I feel as though... your umm thing will only bring more suffering." The man was put off gasping at the cruelty of the little girl but he would not give up. Now, he had a dream and dreams would not get destroyed from a teenager's angst. He proceeded to go on a rant about how him giving off a great performance would in fact bring less suffering to people.

Marigold was in a terrible state so putting on a great show could make the place more popular and bring money here which would and could help restore Marigold and thus even more people will come.
"More people... so more sinners too?" Tempris tilted her head putting on a more cute appearance and faking naivety.

The man calmed down a bit. Sure more success would bring more bad people but the Rune Knights would show more interest in the area and protect the people. Plus maybe another guild would pop up or move here.

It was at that thought that Tempris let out a loud yawn to forcefully get him to stop talking. "Ugh I get it. You are boring. Just tell me what you want me to do."

The man was happy despite the girl's half hearted persona. For Tempris, she was more interested in bringing more people to experience her baptism, thus saving more of the world.

If this man's actions would bring crowds and mobs, then she could do her work more easily as well. It was all a win for her. If the man turned out to be a complete fraud, then well, she could just give him his own personal special baptism of fire. She was glowing with the thought of planning every single detail to the minute, not the very second. Would she use light magic or fire? Did this place have good candles or scent wood? Maybe she could get a bell. It would be so beautiful. It would be so fun. A tear dripped down her face and it became harder to smile. However the man did not notice as his devotion to his own craft made him hyper focus on his performance.

For this to work, first the man would need material. Like, he needed a lot of wood.

Tempris recommended that the man buy the material to fuel all the fires but the man was a bit scared of the people returning to hunt him down again. Tempris tried to assure them that those people were in a better place, one where they need not worry about such sinful feelings and suffering. Still the man held his ground, even sitting that hard work just made everything worth it in the end. In truth Tempris just thought the man was too poor and well, she was not going to offer to flip the bill. She was not the investing type unless that investment went to purifying sinners. This guy was not purifying sinners... at least... not on purpose.

She agreed to protect the man as he traveled around. She was not going to carry any lumber. She was not a sinful mule. No matter how much the man asked.

Like how could you, a grown man, ask a young woman to carry such dirty and heavy things. She just smiled while sitting on one of the fallen logs she cut down. Oh by the way, she did at least agree to cut down the trees. It took her one good swing compared to the minute of chopping from the man. It was good exercise and well, she did like cutting down trees. She did not know why. Maybe it was from all the fighting she did throughout her life. She would not know, she was not a therapist. It was fun to do so she did it. It was also fun to watch the man struggle but he seemed happy to have saved so much timed saved.

Scratch that... the fake performer man, which was an abomination upon all of god's work, did look more dopy so now she owed the dumb heretical creature an apology.

It still was going to work so she tied it to the carriage and got a carrot on a stick and proceeded to lead the mule towards the man’s location. She was not going to touch the creature but ultimately the trip was successful. As she arrived back, the man’s productivity was exponentially improved and he was ready for his performance. The last thing he needed from the girl was for her to be the assistant. Tempris was going to hard pass but well, the details of her job description was interesting. Basically, she was going to get to set things on fire. And with her great looks and expert fire setting skills the performance was even more dangerous that he wanted and even more successful. If only the man allowed the flames to purify him. Still, with all the profits, the man gave her some of the cut and hoped that Tempris would show up again to help him.
