Once again the wolven woman was called upon to take up arms against the spirits within the oakland church. Once again she would accept it with the grim responsibility of one that had dedicated their career to that of slaying those of the night. She lacked the stereotypical armor that she had worn for years at this point. It had been blasted apart more times than she could count but now it was gone without any hopes of being repaired. So she donned simple garb for this not that she’d need it.

She felt her body swell in size as she used her abilities first hand to turn her body from that of a woman of impressive stature to that of a beastman of sorts. A werewolf that stood many heads taller than those around her and an impressive one at that. Her precursor form was bloodied from the various battles she had been a part of since it’s conception.

Today would be no different for her; it was another job and one that she would do without even questioning it. She’d walk past the priest that she had gotten used to at this point, past the head priest that wanted to come and tell her the situation. She’d turn her head to stare at the both of them as they babbled on. Praising her for her work; praising her for doing what was right. She’d hold up her hand that wasn’t gripping the weapon of Shaka Zulu, no. The weapon that was Lucretia’s now.

The job isn’t done yet. You can thank me after it’s over please.

With her piece said the wolven woman started her trek downstairs knowing without a shadow of a doubt that today’s spirit would no doubt be a tough one if they were calling her again. The last one had nearly drained her of all her mana before supping on her life force itself. That was something that she wanted to avoid today.

Lucretia made her way through the empty halls, through the empty places that once held families and people that had worked to make homes. Many had left or simply had passed. It was a dark time for many and many more still needed saving. She paused by a wretched home that lay torn apart likely by others wishing to claim it as their own or wanting the supplies in it. Shaking her head she’d move on; most of the rips were done by hands of this world since they tended to leave a different kind of mark.

She’d grimace as she continued down the stairs; noting that she was starting to see new marks on the walls very much so not from the individuals that would have lived here. So a new spirit had taken residence and had been making waves was it? She’d grit her teeth a bit as she could start to hear something ahead of her. Figuring that it was the ghost or spirit she was sent to fight she found herself pausing upon arrival a look of disdain quickly spreading across her face…

The spirit was much taller than she expected; much wider and looked like a giant snake of some sorts. The fact that it was an animal rather than any human confused lucretia for a breif instant but knowing what spirits were capable of she wasn’t about to just let that shake her resolution to deal with this spirit. Stepping off of the last staircase flight she’d stare up at it as it slitehred around. It had already ‘eaten’ a group of homeless. The poor souls were already far gone and would likely wither away into nothingness in a short span of time.

The woman adjusted her spear; stalking around and trying to find the head of the giant spiritual beast as she could hear it scooping up others in it’s maw again. There were people on this flight and it hurt lucretia knowing she couldn’t get to them without alerting the spirit. She’d note that it wasn’t very fast but it just seemed to ripple like water. It baffled lucretia that she hadn’t been seen yet and she’d freeze when it’s head slowly rose into view. It had a few people down it’s gullet now and she’d frown as she noted that it lacked a certain sense of the word…

Proper proportions of sorts? It was a snake yes but everything about it’s head was wrong, eyes were the wrong size, the jaw was unhinged practically and the fangs… well there were too many. This was just someone’s dream of a snake or a spirit that was ‘snakelike’ that was twisted till it was an unrecognizable mess.

When lucretia was spotted the woman was surprised with the rapidity of the snake’s movements despite its strange appearance. She’d bound of the way as it slammed into the wall with its malformed head and sent rocks flying every which way. Furrowing her brow she’d note that there were a lot of impact marks along it’s hide from weapons that were capable of hurting ghosts but nothing deeper than a scratch. Her frown deepened a bit as the snake was slow to pull it’s head back. Was it actually affected by slamming into the wall? She had to wonder what the hell was going on, avoiding another huge swipe from the snakes head she’d roll to one side.

Her spear came up out of habit and she found that her weapon tore through it’s hide with ease. Prompting it to shriek in a mix of anger and pain. Lucretia’s eyebrow rose a little bit as she felt something warm spray across her face. Blood? She would rub at the wet spot to find that was exactly what it was.

Was this spirit possessing a large amount of flesh and turning it into a giant snake? Her eyes flicked up to it’s head which was filled out more now. The bodies it was eating was actually giving it mass? That was an impressive feat among most and she wasn’t expecting a spirit of this type to manage this at all. Gritting her teeth she’d stand up; noting the sudden wariness of the werewolf.

It showed a baseline understanding of its situation and what it was against so it was going to be careful. Lucretia couldn’t help but notice that it was coiling defensively now that she had done that. Even going so far as inspecting its wound. If left to it’s own devices this would be a huge problem in the long run…

Lucretia had to tumble again as the snake eventually decided to risk attacking her. She couldn’t even lash out to attack it this time around because of the angle of both her tumble and how it was handling its body. It scowled a little bit and the woman came up with the spear in front of her. Exhaling slowly she’d spin it around and then throw it at the serpent in front of her. The spell was powerful and even though it wasn’t physically the strongest thing she could do if it was keeping at range she’d have to handle it this way.

Once it slammed into her target lucretia’s smile widened and she’d note as it reared up in pain. The spear coming back to her hand. She noted that she had hit it pretty close to where she had hit it before actually. Amazed at the fact she’d note that the wounds were actually traveling along the spirit’s body. It was an interesting way of combating it but it didn’t seem to control where it was being hit.

Lucretia felt that trying to strike at where the snake’s wounds were would just end up with her being scooped up by the beast. So instead of actively trying to hit it directly she’d waste no time avoiding it’s strikes and lashing out with her spear. Either getting little nicks or cuts in place of the hits she had landed earlier to get a gauge of how her blows landed…

Seeing how fast that the serpent could rotate its body let lucretia know just how fast she had to strike the creature in order to land around the same location as the other bigger wounds. Every now and again she would slam her spear into its body. Yielding a screech of pain followed by a swipe of its massive body. Time to time it’d get lucky and hit her but its blows were weak compared to what Lucretia was used to.

Staring up at the spirit she noted that once all the bodies had been ‘taken’ it had stopped growing and filling out. It looked like it was starting to get tired; which was rare for a spirit to be able to even do. Rotating her spear that was soaked in the blood of its own victims the wolven woman spotted the rotation of wounds again. It was deep, about halfway and if she was careful…

She’d slam the spear that she had with such intensity into the beast just as the wounds arrived at the spot she was expecting that it’s whole body shook with the force. Even going so far as lifting it up off the ground with the intensity. The precursor let out a roar of challenge to the ‘spirit’ and watched it tumble away from her.

The spear had cleanly cut through the spirit, the half of it that was not connected to its head rapidly vanishing into the air while the ‘upper’ portion thrashed around in pain. Crushing pillars and hitting the wall as it freaked out. Lucretia set the butt of her spear against the ground which prompted it to freeze, its eyes locked onto her and it hissed at her…

Lucretia lunged forward towards the remains of the snake, it’d open its mouth wide to try to swallow her in an effort to ‘rebuild’ but the wolf was on to that. She’d bring her spear down, thrusting it at the ground to push her up and over the snake’s attempted lunge. Letting her see the damage she had dealt to it. She’d slash the snake from snout to its midway point. Landing behind it she’d note that it hadn’t disbursed yet but had been letting out a silent scream of pain into the air.

Lucretia spun her spear around ready to attack it head on but what she was gifted with surprised her. A shower of blood followed suit and she’d stand up tall; the clinking of metal hitting the floor brought her attention down and amidst all the blood a single necklace of some sort remained. She’d stoop down and pick it up, raising a brow as the symbol didn’t register with her in the slightest. But at the center of the necklace was a jewel that had been split in half, a dead snake laying in it.

The spirit had been planted here by someone to do something and the woman wasn’t even sure where to start. She’d stand up and pocket the necklace, making her way to the exit. She had a pair of priests to talk to this about…

When lucretia arrived at the top of the stairs covered in blood the priests were practically panicking thinking it was hers but the wolven woman said nothing before tossing the necklace at them. The high priest and the priest that had explained to her what had been going on paled at the sight of the amulet.

I take it you know what this is?

They both looked at one another and the high priest nodded; going on to explain but lucretia held up her hand to ask a single question that would dictate her next response.

Is it yours?

The high priest looked shocked but shook his head after a moment. Lucretia’s posture relaxed and she’d let them explain where the necklace had come from. After a sizeable and lengthy explanation the werewolf pondered their answer before letting her form shrink down to that of a normal woman. Or as normal as lucretia could be.

Then the next time I come around here I’ll kill that spirit that made the amulet. It’s not good that it’s able to do so much with so little.

Lucretia bowed her head and turned to leave; the priests however insisted that she clean up beforehand and she’d just go along with it. After a lengthy bath she was let go and the priests thanked her for her time. Upon getting to the inn she was staying at lucretia pondered her next step…
