Odin †

What a week it had been for the people of Bosco. Throughout most of the month, the people's favour had fallen with Brunhild the Divine: one of Hildegard's half-sisters and one that was hell bent on becoming another religious fanatic. That meant, out of every single possible outcome for the Bosco throne, she would be the worst one for Odin. Cassia would like dislike him, Reiner would be indifferent without provocation, but Brunhild would actively make his life a misery, and it would also make holidays to Bosco a lot more difficult. Odin had to admit, he was liking the place so far. He didn't want to get kicked out.

However, in the past week things had changed drastically. Hildegard was now on top, with Brunhild almost becoming an after thought. The terror had subsided, and now it felt like it was the best time for everyone to relax a little. As such, Odin had reached out to one of the representatives of Cassia the Dauntless: Alisa Vollan, someone with whom Odin had an interesting past. He had attacked her guild once upon a time, but otherwise the two had been on rather positive terms, one might even say friendly.

He sat on a wooden bench in one of Hildegard's demi-human settlements, choosing one of the less populated locations so as not to arouse any unwarranted concern among his meeting partner. After all, he was hoping for an alliance out of this. Hildegard and Cassia had a lot in common with one another, perhaps it was something they could build upon, but nothing would happen without one reaching out first.

It was a good thing Fiorian law didn't extend to Bosco.

Alisa knew many of her guildmates had flocked to Hildegard... Namely most of their non human members which certainly earned a few raised eyebrows. Something she'd have to look into. Whether they simply sympathized more with someone who devoted all of their energies to the betterment of non humans, or they simply felt out of place in a human society. She hoped it was the former, but her job as a guildmaster meant finding out if the latter was a problem. In the end, with the warmongering Wilheim out of the way and the rivalry settled between Hildegard and Brunhild, the succession crisis had reached a point where all the remaining siblings could potentially reach an understanding.

As a Guildmaster from Fiore, Alisa embarked on this quest to secure friendly relations with the most peaceful, belevolent contender she could find. Yet another generation of warmongering Bosco would prove disastrous for its neighbors, but an unstable Bosco equally so for it's citizens. Like Cassia, Alisa believed the people suffer the most from warfare, and since she never had any hostility to any heir but Wilheim, it was only a matter of waiting until the time came. And the time came when she recieved not an invitation from one of the guildmates. It certainly earned a raised eyebrow, but she got going regardless. Instead of travelling, Alisa simply came out of an unattended doorway, using her Skeleton key to make way to the demi human settlement, where she found the man she came to meet sitting idly at a bench:

"Ufufu~... How nostalgic...", that smooth, throaty voice pierced the quiet as she announced her presence, clad in a breezy black sweater and a tight, form fitting pair of jeans, her face only partially obscured by the wide rimmed sunglasses. She knew he'd become a lich but to see it firsthand felt... Not necessarily unnerving, just... Disappointing. As a fellow mage of Icebergian descent, Odin Morningstar always felt like he had strength to spare. In that regard, the two couldn't be more different: Alisa abhored shortcuts to power. But after her own apprentice of all people did the exact same thing, she hardly had any right to judge. Not to mention, she had more important matters to worry about, taking a seat beside him as she spoke, peeling off her sunglasses to look him in the eye... sockets, "Good to see you haven't lost your sense of humour"

Despite his concerns, Alisa's body language hardly hinted at any desire to fight. Though in Fiore they may stand on opposite sides, Alisa simply smiled... None of that mattered out here in Bosco, where the two shared a simple, palpable goal of seeing this succession crisis solved peacefully.

Despite asking numerous demi-humans at least four times each to tell him when they saw Alisa approaching, the Lich was instead greeted by the sound of her voice echoing around the admittedly otherwise quiet settlement. Watching her approach he would get up from his seat, affording the guildmaster the respect she had earned as he gave her a slight bow. Despite being on opposites sides of moral alignments, they were both some of the top mages in their respective groups: Odin the Lord, Alisa the Saint. It had been a long time since they had last met, but neither of them seemed to have any desire for combat today. They were both here to help their heirs, there was no need for anything violent to erupt. And, if nothing else, maybe it would help people's views of Liches. Just because Odin was often evil and murderous, it didn't mean he always was.

"If you come back from death and don't keep your sense of humour then it's such a waste." He would put his two index fingers through his empty eye sockets, chuckling lightly as he did so, "Although it has to be said, it took me many years to be able to do this without violently retching. There's something just not right about putting your fingers into your eyes." Any tension that could've existed between their meeting melted away instantly. For a moment, they were not Alisa Vollan and Odin Morningstar. They were simply two people looking to have a conversation. Two, dare Odin say it, friends?

Anyway, to business.

"It has been far too long Alisa, although it's probably not the easiest thing in the world for us to have a catch up on our lives. As you know I asked you here to talk alliance between Hildegard and Cassia. I also wanted to ask you, now that you're here, why you follow Cassia specifically. What is it about her vision for Bosco that you relate with?"

"One can sacrifice a lot of things in life, but never their sense of humour~", the crystal woman merely chuckled, brought back to that time before the civil war got into full swing... All the more so when, "At the same time, you're completely immune to being poked in the eye. That's quite the edge in battle if I ever saw one."

After all, they never actually had a personal quarrel with each other. Even aligned with opposing guilds, they hadn't stood in a battlefield since years ago. Still, friends might be a stretch... Not yet. Maybe if they had other moments like this, without the burden of their respective choices getting in the way. They did achieve the kind of understanding she rarely reached with people, especially one who so consistently stood on the opposite side. Raiders and defenders, royals and revolutionaries, malevolent dragons and benevolent ones. Out here though... Fiorian politics seemed too far away to matter, enough that Alisa could simply shift on her seat, resting her elbow on the back of the bench as she tourned to face him:

"Cassia stands for the people... Not just her people mind you. All this time she's been concerned for every citizen of Bosco, including those who wouldn't support her. There's something admirable about it...", she shrugged, yet as she spoked, Alisa's smile widening, brushing a loose black lock behind her ear as a gust of wind left it fluttering about, a hint of admiration showing for someone who had positively surprised her since she decided to take part in this dispute, "They can call me a Saint back home but... I doubt most people could do it so naturally, myself included."

For that reason she fights for a Bosco without war. Only someone truly dedicated to peace can achieve something lasting more than a generation. Many would see peace as a means to an end, to rebuild and bolster their forces... Thankfully, the ones most likely to see it as such had now dropped out of the race, paving the way for the others to calmly discuss a peaceful future:

"And likewise for you, I'm surprised to find you advocating for Hildegard so adamantly. When did you decide to support her.", she bounced back, brow arching as she inquired.

Even as a Lich, Odin had started out as a human, and he never seemed too concerned with how his foes viewed him.

Odin †

It was relaxing to talk with someone who, for all intents and purposes, should've been an enemy to the Lich. With so much new blood in the magic world: guilds appearing and disappearing every month, new mages trying to make a name for themselves only to have their lives cut short, it was refreshing to talk to someone else in the 'old guard' as it were. Alisa and Odin had been around for a long time at this point, it was part of the reason why they were recognised as Saints and Lords. They had histories, and they each commanded some form of authority. Few others could boast the same.

What got Odin most from Alisa's words on her heir wasn't the specific context, which was strong in of itself, but the passion and fervour with which she spoke them. She wasn't reciting a rehearsed passage from Cassia's manifesto. These words came from the heart, and Alisa truly believed in everything Cassia stood for. If nothing else, the heir was to be commended for capturing the love of so many people, both in Bosco and wider Fiore. "If she has gained your respect then she must be the real deal. Caring for all people is something that can be said very easily, but it is much harder than many give it credit for." What was more impressive was Alisa's willingness to admit that Cassia's benevolence outweighed her own, and even she would find such a task difficult.

Then came the expected question. Of course, if Odin was going to ask Alisa why she chose Cassia, it only made sense that he return the favour. She had answered truthfully after all, he owed her the same, "When this all began, many expected me to join Wilhelm in his glorious revolution, or perhaps Reiner with his push for greater progress. After all, I'm definitely not the kind of person you'd expect to associate with anyone non-violent." He chuckled lightly as he continued, thinking about the options he had had when he first arrived in Bosco, "Of course, naturally Brunhild wasn't an option."

"I chose Hildegard for the same reason that I created my guild: enacting change. Fiore's own monarchy showed me how corrupt the system is, and how desperately it needs to change. Hildegard cares about all races which", gesturing to himself to make his point more obvious, "is not something many would be able to do, but she also wishes to try something new. She wants to change Bosco so drastically that it might just even work, and maybe that change could reach Fiore."

Realising he had just said more about his beliefs in the past two minutes than in the past two decades, Odin could do nothing else but shrug.

"But hey, that's just me."

Strange times indeed, where mages like the two of them could look to old foes and feel a greater sense of kinship that they felt towards some of the brash new generations. Maybe this just meant they were getting old? The thought almost left her chuckling considering her actual age, even Odin's who despite his skeletal appearance wasn't too far off from her age either. At least judging by his appearance before transforming himself as such:

"Indeed... It's easy to dismiss her as idealistic but few people can hold on to their good nature as the years pass them by.", Alisa smiled and nodded, recognizing the woman's merit more than anything. More than the blind fanaticism some religious sorts showed their gods and prophets, Alisa looked to Cassia as something far more palpable, yet equally elusive. An honest to God good person. She imagined she might have welcomed anybody equally, even a notorious Wizard Lord from Fiore. The same could not be said for all the heirs as he quickly pointed out, earning a chuckled from the crystal woman, "Good thinking, I can't imagine the wonderful relationship you two might have had~"

With and playfulness aside, she hung onto his every word as he spoke, defenitely curious as to what about that young half elven princess moved him to action... Even if you'd expect him to have some nefarious goal in mind, Hildegard hardly seemed like the ideal heir to support. No, something in that bright young woman defenitely resonated with him and as he spoke she defenitely figured out why. To his credit, he defenitely seemed like the kind of guy who liked to shake things up, and while Alisa for one detested that tendency when it came to all the wars back in Fiore... It was an admirable trait to have, which only made her eyes widen when she saw how confidently he spoke for her:

"Fufu~... Well, I admire your honesty~", she winked, smile widening softly as she took a moment to glance up into the sky. She had to admit, they'd picked a wonderful day summer afternoon for their reunion, which she figured for some people might count as a good omen? After all, the future of Bosco was inextricably linked to the future of its neighbours, and Nobody really benefits from war except for those selling weapons or slaves, or mercenaries selling their services to the highest bidder. Both Cassia and Hildegard shared something that placed them, "If she got a hardened Wizard Lord defending her so vehemently, well... I can certainly understand why half my Guild joined her banner too. And I don't believe Bosco will have a future with these two working against each other. Not a good one at least."

That's why they were here after all... The two sisters had no quarrel with each other but, just as they needed their support in their dispute for power, so would they need it now to broker the peace to come.

Odin †

Alisa and Odin were in agreement about a good may things, not least of all being how poor the relationship between Odin and Brunhild would've been had the Lich, somehow, managed to join her group. If he had, it definitely would've spoken to the hypocrisy of the church that he had already encountered time and time again. Using a Lich, especially someone so prominent as Odin, to further her own goals while condemning all 'dark' races would not have been a good look for the self-proclaimed Divine of Bosco. Odin had to admit, he had breathed a sigh of relief when he had heard that Brunhild no longer held any power. While he would fight vehemently for Hildegard to ascend to her throne, none of the remaining options were, strictly speaking, terrible ones. That was part of the reason why an alliance would be so beneficial.

"You couldn't be more correct", Odin began as Alisa finished her words, in complete agreement about where the two heirs stood: "Both Hildegard and Cassia have parts left to play for the safety and security of Bosco for generations to come." Both had the love of their respective peoples: one from the humans and one from the elves and demi-humans who felt underrepresented in the current country. Perhaps even the Stellans would stay with Hildegard after her succession, due to how much she was working to improve relations with them, even allying with one of their generals for that purpose.

At a signal from the Lich, an elf would approach, with a prewritten piece of parchment that Odin had prepared prior to their meeting. It simply stated that Alisa and Odin had met, discussed a potential partnership, and the conversation had proceeded amicably. He would allow Alisa to take it and read it over as he spoke: "You have to understand, a lot of people from all royal groups won't believe that this meeting actually happened. They will think Fiorian politics would come into play and we could only be enemies. Would you be so kind as to sign the parchment, simply proving that an alliance is an option both of us are open to?"

Indeed... Some hunters like Alisa merely harnessed holy power to kill their enemies. Clerics were different. They dedicated their lives to preaching against unholy beings like Liches and Vampires. For one such cleric to accept help from a Lich, it would mean casting aside everything they stood for. Cassia and Hildegard, however, had no such restrictions. Cassia had been blind to supporters' race the whole time she'd known her. She always treated everyone equally. And Hildegard, despite her reputation as standing for the elves and non humans, was still half human herself. Alisa doubted she bore any ill will to the side of the family that now afforded her a chance to change things for the better. But in politics, things are what they seemed: In their eyes of their opponents, Cassia would always be naive, and Hildegard would always scorn humans:

"Oh naturally, depending on the size of your parchment, i'd expect some time to read through it of course, as I'm sure you'd understand.", Alisa was no merchant after all, and as such she'd probably feel wary of working with someone who'd sign something without reading it. However, the parchment the elf presented said none of those things. The sculptress merely leaned back on her seat, crossing her long, elegant legs in a smooth, flowing motion as she held the paper presented, "Hmmm..."

Fortunately, the contract desribed terms no weightier than the simple fact their meeting took place, and how they'd both agreed to discuss a partnership peacefully in the future. Considering the small amount of text and how long it took her to read through it, Alisa needed no more than a few moments to smile at the elf and calmly request a quill, adding her own signature before returning the signed contract:

"There you go~...", Alisa nodded, and didn't question his reasoning. She'd have done the same in his shoes, after all, even if their leaders might not really mind what means they used to resolve the succession crisis, their own advisors would defenitely furrow their brows at the thought of powerful Fiorian mages bargaining over the future of their country, "It's better that they don't believe at all... Even if we weren't enemies in Fiore, the moment they see two powerful foreign mages making deals like these, they'll lose their faith in whatever the sisters achieve together in the end. And that's awfully unfair to them both if you ask me~"

Odin †

With the way the world was, Odin had expected some apprehension at his bringing out a scroll that looked concerningly like a contract of sorts. After all, not only was the Lich known for his evil, terrorist ways, he was also one of the shrewdest business in Fiore: having kept his Swineherd Pub afloat despite the widespread knowledge that it was owned and operated by him. It had only been burned down by holy knights once so far, and they had been made an example of. As such, he had absolutely no qualms with Alisa taking and reading through the parchment brought to her by the elf. After all, it was short and sweet, saying no more than what had transpired and no suggesting anything beyond what had already been suggested. After all, in royal politics one had to always keep track of the rumour mill. One whisper could topple an empire.

After her perusal and eventual signature, the elf's smile made up for Odin's lacking facial features. She brought up a good point though: at the end of the day, the Fiorian mages were only there to provide assistance, and were not responsible for bringing the succession crisis, if you could even call it that anymore, to a close. That was the duty of Cassia and Hildegard.

"You've given me much to think about, both to relay to Hildegard and personally. I'm glad we could do this." The Lich stood up once more to shake her hand as he began to depart from the settlement, content that Alisa was an ally, "Best of luck with gaining support, who doesn't love a bit of friendly competition." Even with the skull, the mischievous grin that would've been present on Odin's face could definitely be gleamed from his voice.

WORDS: 300 | TAG: @Odin | CASUAL

People these days really don't like reading... Many of whom still persist in their error, signing things even when the one handing them is a renowned criminal. Alisa was thankfully not part of that particular clique, stubborn enough to read through anything that hoped to recieve her signature, and fully understand what it is she was signing. However, she completely understood that in Odin's case, people were often overtaken by a sudden bout of caution that they'd never experience in front of a human... Go figure~... She supposed a pub was a far more honest and profitable business than politics. After all, people come in, get tanked, pay and get out. If the drinks and settings suit their liking, they come back. In that regard, the only reason why Alisa herself had never visited his pub came down mostly to the hindrance of travelling all the way to Oak. Who knows, maybe he'd be interested in financing a branch of his famous pub in Hargeon~... Something to discuss some other time, when the pressures of politics wouldn't bind them down in either Fiore or Bosco:

"Likewise~... I'll give it some thought, and see what Cassia's administration has to say...", Alisa returned the smile, brushing a loose black lock behind her ear, uncrossing her legs and standing back up from her seat, shaking that skeletal hand in what she hoped would be a fruitful agreement, "So long as we don't undermine each other, I'm sure we'll get along swimmingly~"

Cassia had never been one for such underhanded tactics, so Odin could rest assured no actions would be taken. Of course, she wasn't as sheepish as people thought, and even she would authorize retaliation if her people came under attack... Hopeful this meeting meant it wouldn't come to this.
