Her last spiritual mission wound up taking a lot of time, the better part of a whole day... Unlike the ones she solved in Hargeon, the spirits hadn't been her unspoken clients; instead, she worked those jobs from the opposite end, the human end. She wouldn't exactly call them fun, but they hadn't been that big a hassle either, and she felt somewhat happy for that if nothing else. But now that she'd solved that case, she had to still had to deal with all those spirits nobody had bothered to make requests over. She knew they were around, she felt that very same vibe in the air as she did when she walked around in Hargeon, on the same two nights when she had those unexpected close encounters.

But tonight, things would be different. For tonight, she planned on heading out to look for them, instead of the other way around. Good thing she had packed that sexy black dress when she travelled North to Orchidia, on some level she already knew she might need it, possibly even before she actually arrived at her destination, Worth Woodsea.

That was the main reason she packed it for, of course, the very reason why she spent so long picking out the perfect Halloween dress. Maybe once they had a proper party she'd pick a different one for variety's sake, but today, this would do rather nicely. So she headed out under a somewhat cloudy, defenitely windy moonlight. She needed no more than walk a single block over the empty cobblestone streets to once more run into something spooky... Two ghosts hovering in mid air, childish in shape and form, all but frolicking around one another with equally childish giggles. They looked pretty happy though, why would they have trouble crossing over to the afterlife? Alisa wound up lingering there as she eyed them with interest. The two of them eventually looked back at her with returned interest, and then finally looked at each other, nodded, and headed off, motioning for Alisa to follow. She did, watching her surroundings yet not really worried about the spirits themselves. She felt no troubling vibe coming from them, but neither did they tell her what they needed... That was, until they started talking to each other, just loud enough for her to overhear it... Even assuming they cared about her hearing.

"It's that time of the year sis...! Think this one will do it?!"

"I hope so! Hopefully one person in this city hasn't lost all sense of humour yet!!"

"I'm sure she will! And we'll finally get back at all those damn losers!!"

They kept talking to each other like that, and soon enough the crystal mage had a fairly decent idea of what they needed of her. Despite visible scorn in their voice as they discussed all the other towns people, how much they hated them for they were treated in life. Thankfully, their idea of retaliation consisted primarily of pranks, they didn't appear interested in killing their victims, however, otherwise Alisa would have probably refused to help them at all. As she had all control of the situation, she could make the pranks physically harmless, but thoroughly humiliating, satisfying the two spirits without hurting anyone.

Of course, she had an issue with the way they wanted her to do it... Not simply ordinary pranks, but playing ones powered by the same voodoo magic they had mastered in life. As they arrived at the abadoned shack they had inhabited then, Alisa looked around, away the dust in front of her face more often than not as she sifted through moldy old gear, only thinking about how much she was gonna need a bath after this. She had a job to do though, even it it didn't pay more than candy... Problem was, how to actually use voodoo magic? These guys had used it, so maybe there was something around here that could help her along?

Oh, here it is...!

'Voodoo dolls for dummies' by Belle and Xander

Good thing these siblings were clever enough to leave this lying around... But then Alisa scratched her temple, somewhat confused... Wait a second... Weren't these two supposed to be master wizards, geniuses at the art of wielding voodoo dolls? Then, why did they leave an instruction manual lying around? A confusing question to which neither of the spirits displayed the slightest ounce of interest in answer, with nothing other than those same spectral giggles reaching her ears, the very same sound that guided the mage here to begin with. Thankfully, the book they wrote in life eventually explained what their undead forms refused to in death: They had one simple, almost primal yearning for amusement, soone so strong that even death couldn't purge.

They desired one simple boon: The last laugh.

The mere introduction to their educational tome was enough to get a few laughters out of the normally cool and collected Alisa; no matter how childish it may look, she could tell the two had poured their heart into this form of magic, and using it as a form of entertainment just felt natural. But then, nobody else recognized it as such, and worse, they wound up ostracizing them for being good at something most people didn't really understand, not even tried to. She got past the introductory notes quickly enough, however, and arrived at a set of basic rules voodoo users should follow. It caught her attention immediately, and she carefully slid her finger down along each of them, her ruby eyes hanging off every word.

Rule number one: Don't touch a Voodoo doll until you're certain who it belongs to.

Check...

Rule number two: Voodoo dolls cannot create something out of nothing.

This second rule made sense, but its wording confused Alisa enough that she had to flip through to the page mentioned and find the explanation. Ah, while they can be used to reflect damage and forces onto their victims, they cannot actually create the object that causes such damage on the victim. For instance, if she were to drop a piano on a voodoo doll, she might hurt the person, but it wouldn't magically spawn a giant piano atop them. Alright, that's good enough for her. Next rule would be...

Rule number three: Voodoo dolls are at their strongest when exploiting actual possibilities.

Another vaguely worded rule, but fortuately, the two siblings were good teachers. Once again, Alisa flipped through the page to find a detailled explanation, and immediately nodded as said explanation made perfect sense. Once more using the same Piano example, the siblings explained how attempting to crush a voodoo doll while its victim walked under one such instrument, it would most likely cause the piano's carriers to accidentally drop it onto their victim. And the results would undoubtedly turn just as deadly, for which reason the book's writers warned her to keep that in mind if she wasn't planning on killing.

She had a good amount of rules to memorize, but they got more and more detailled and specific the further she went in, and she couldn't actually read the whole thing without spending a few hours here. At some point, the ghosts got bored watching her read and actually mentioned it, to each other as always, but loud enough to get their point across. She wouldn't really need any exceedingly powerful magic for these pranks, so getting into those would achieve little more than wasting her time. With that, the time had come to put words into action.

First off, kids... They had a very long list of kids who bullied them, "Unfunny normies who rely on cheap, used and abused pranks", as they were referred to. According to the twins, Halloween would be the perfect time to get back at them while they were busy pulling their own lame pranks on other people. With a first target in her sights, Alisa packed a fair share of voodoo dolls in a bag alongside other utensils, and went off on her own hunt. The spirits accompanied her the whole way, talking amongst each other as if she weren't there, while giving her their full attention at the same time.

Actually finding her targets proved easy enough, when her 'clients' were kind enough to include a voodoo spell for tracking each of the victims. She found a bunch of kids in costumes prowling around a house, ready to pull a fast one on a hapless house owner. Two of them had what appeared to be water baloons in hand. Alisa raised an eyebrow: Costumes... Pranks... Already?

"Isn't it a little early for Halloween pranks though?"

"Is that surprising? We're undead hermits and those guys still had less of a life than we ever did. Hey, check that out...!"

The moment they saw the sculptress in the black dress reach for two voodoo dolls, they kept their eyes peeled. They knew something good was about to happen, and Alisa made it a point not disappoint them. She placed small cloth balls in the hands of both voodoo dolls, and then pierced them with a needle. One by one she skewered the figurines representing each of the (living) pranksters, just as they held baloons filled with myserious goop... And promptly made them explode in their hands, leaving them filled with ink. No, no just ink... The prissy Pegasus' nose twitched in revulsion as she could smell the rotten eggs all the way from back there...

"Stinky paint bombs...?", she thought out loud, covering her nose. Such a devilish prank, so much something filled her with glee at the thought of hitting them with a taste of their own medicine.

The two agreed as well, ghosts bursting out laughing, but this would only get better... Unaware of what had transpired, the (living) pranksters simply stewed in their frustration, refusing to cut their losses. One by one they all tried to lob stinky baloons at the house, yet no matter what they did, they all exploded in their hands, until even the house owner was drawn outside by the smell and chased them off.

"Hahahaha!!! Good god, I can't stop laughing!!! Oooh, I could watch this all day!!"

"She's good at this...! We havent had a laughter like this in years have we brother?"

They repeated similar lines throughout the night, and so long as they did, Alisa kept going through the prank list. On and on she pranked the hapless citizens in a myriad of ways, until the time finally came when the two ghosts didn't laugh or comment on it anymore. She looked back and smiled at the sight, their spiritual forms glowing brighter before they dispersed completely, with delighted smiles of fulfilled joy plastered on their faces...
