Ryuko

This is a story that took place shortly before Ryuko went on her grand quest to meet Prince Igor Illin of Penegrande. Although the people of Hargeon were able to live in a relative peaceful and prospering city thanks to the protection of the Blue Pegasus guild, one could never underestimate the greed of mortals, and the plague known as 'pirates' was no exception to that rule. Seafaring thieves and outlaws who were blinded by their greed for wealth, answering only to their personal code and the orders of their captain. They had long been a plague upon seafaring merchants and port towns.

There had been a time Ryuko pursued these bandits for noble and righteous goals, but nowadays these days were long gone. Instead she considered pirates almost akin to a sport.

Like they were prey and she was the predator. Not only was there a healthy bounty on these pirates their heads, but it had been an excellent opportunity for her to test her skills. As such the dragon girl had made her way to the cove that the pirates had been terrorizing so far.

As expected the cove was like a nest of pirates, even by arriving at the entrance to the cove she could already spot several pirates having gathered around a campfire, bragging about their latest pillages and the bounty they reaped from it.

Ryuko paid little attention to their words, in a way even if they spoke in Fiorian, it was almost as if they spoke a different language than her, as if she couldn't understand them at all. These pirates were vermin, an opponent beneath her to face, but fortunately she didn't need to worry about dealing with them herself. A hand was raised to her side, trailing along the air as she seemingly was searching for something to grasp.

"Here seems to be a good spot~" She whispered with a smile, her fingers curling around the invisible thread that she soon tore, causing the air to start swirling violently. It was clear her actions had some sort of effect on her surroundings, for the wind started to churn violently and even the pirates at the campfire took notice of the change. Around the same time one of them stood up to investigate it had already begun: she had tore open a portal... but to where?

As the portal started to lash around violently the dragon girl watched as a silhouette emerged from amidst the churning energies of the portal. Despite the fact one might identify the creature as a wyvern, the creature seemed somewhat... different.

Perhaps it was its presence, or the glint in its eyes that betrayed an intelligence on a different scale than its natural kin. Ryuko merely gestured with a hand toward the distance where the camp of pirates was at and spoke two words that would seal the pirates their fate:

"Kill them."

The wyvern soared over to the spot the pirates were at, and while the pirate who stood up tried to reach for his gun, the wyvern tackled the man onto the ground and tore right at his throat! Meanwhile Ryuko continued to observe as another wyvern crawled out of the portal, spreading its wings and soaring down toward the camp, this time clawing at one of the panicking pirates.

One could easily describe the scene as a massacre. The pirates were caught off-guard, and by the time one of them had realized what was going on it was already far too late.

The pirate had swung a scimitar's blade at the portal, disrupting the energies that maintained it, but to his horror he soon saw that scattered in the air behind the portal were several more.

The pirate's eyes widened in shock as he watched the portals hum into life, each portal calling forth yet another creature.

"W-Why are you doing this?!"

The pirate exclaimed in anger as he turned toward the culprit of this bloodbath.

Yet she only gazed down with an almost cold and inhuman disinterest: "I am merely returning the favor you granted onto your victims."

Yet the pirate balked in disgust at these words. "Even we weren't this cruel! Do you feel nothing at the sight of these monsters slaughtering my crew?!"

Yet Ryuko merely tilted her head to the side in bewilderment. "Am I supposed to feel any emotion when I dispose of vermin? If anything your mere presence disgusts me."

The pirate glared at her at hearing these words, swinging his scimitar in her direction but before he even had the chance to reach her a giant figure grasped a hold of his arm and lifted him upright.

The pirate squirmed in the giant's grasp, noticing the creature had emerged from the portal as well. "Who--- What are you?!"

Ryuko took a step forward, her lips curving into a smirk.

"I am the Monarch of the Timeless Dragonflight, here to correct the mistakes of divinity and dragonkin alike, and I will start by pulling the weeds that are festering in humanity's society by tending to vermin like you."

The dragon girl's gaze shifted to the giant as she mused softly. "Take him back to the base, maybe we can put him to use during the experiments."

The giant nodded his head curtly as he started to march back into the gateway, leaving the pirate to scream and flail in protest, yet his cries fell on deaf ears.

Ryuko

It had only taken a few minutes till silence fell upon the cove. Quietly Ryuko walked among the corpses of the pirates. It was odd how she felt so little when even one of her wyverns was devouring one of the limbs of one of the fallen victims. In the past she might had felt disgusted or concerned, but now she felt eerily at ease.

Perhaps it was because she had come to understand the flawed nature of this world, flaws that were allowed to fester because of the lack of action from the gods and these who held the power to make a change. Was she changing? She wasn't sure, a part of her thought she might had, but at the same time she still held firmly to certain feelings and convictions.

Whatever the case might had been, she had chosen to walk this path. This path that was truly her own.

Turning her back at the massacre Ryuko could spot amidst the trees a cowering soldier, perhaps a Rune Knight? A hand raised to beckon the knight over who briefly considered their best chance of survival and then decided to approach her.

"What happened here?"

The knight asked, his gaze nervously wandering around the beach. Ryuko followed his gaze and smiled briefly. "I tended to your pirate problem. These crews should no longer pose any problem for Hargeon and its people."

The man looked in disbelief at her. "Who in the world are you, to be able to command such creatures?" To which Ryuko merely chimed softly. "You could say that the Dragon Order gave the people of Hargeon a favor, in exchange for that delicious barbeque they presented last time I visited the town."

The man briefly followed her gaze toward the town. The Dragon Order? He had never heard of such an organization before! Not even outside of Fiore! However, the moment he turned back to face Ryuko the dragon girl had disappeared. Even the wyverns that were scattered along the beach had disappeared alongside the portals they came from, leaving the knight to look around in sheer disbelief as he wondered how in the world he would be explaining these events to his superiors.
