Ittindi
Ittindi smiled looking around the caravan, the pitch-black night echoed the sound of the mountain bugs. He could never discern which fauna annoyed him most, since he killed all as soon as he saw them. The only thing more disgusting was rodents like rats, they caused the biggest problems in a manor. As a result, Ittindi enjoys the company of cats the most of all animals. While they could cause messes, they were typically easy to clean, and they enjoyed catching the rodents and bugs for him. A small price to pay to clean up a hairball here and there, not to mention they mostly napped, and were independent. He typically fed a stray here and there giving them a good comb with one of their undercoat brushes he kept in his cleaning kit. He’d walk around the caravan, doing his 15-minute rounds, so far, the night had been devoid of action. When all was clear he’d lean back against the caravan.

It had come as a surprise how many skills as a butler translated into taking jobs as a mage. Especially the waiting around, patience was one of the strongest virtues a butler could have. It appeared as a mage, it was something that could translate into safety, his walks would continue to be uneventful until around midnight. It had been less than 2 minutes since he finished doing his rounds around the caravan when he heard a quiet moan…or was it a muffled scream. Either way Ittindi would check it out, originally the job was offered for something like this. There had been rumors in the area about bandits, or other vagabonds stealing from merchants’ carts while they were in town. He had to be careful, no one had caught sight of these bandits, so Ittindi suspected they were using some kind of illusion magic.

Possibly light or some kind to make the users invisible, it could even be a magical item. Either way, he’d crouch down and move slowly trying to avoid making any noise. The sounds were starting to get a little louder to the east of his guarded wagon. He considered using a spell to catch them by surprise, but if they were stronger than him, he would want to bluff scare them rather than let them know his strength. So, he kept creeping closer, the sounds now had changed to muffled talking. He could catch them plotting in the act!

That was when he realized the noise wasn’t coming from around the caravan, but inside it! They were already in the middle of a robbery! How no one had seen or heard of these people yet was a great surprise as they weren’t nearly as stealthy as he expected. He was just outside the back of the wagon, stealthy as a rat when he realized his grave mistake. The sound wasn’t someone robbing, it was the sound of young love. As he heard their flirting, he’d only listen for a minute to verify it wasn’t a ruse. Unless the robbers were theatre members of the highest caliber, Ittindi blushing would believe their flirting.

Sneaking back to his caravan he would continue to do his 15-minute patrols into the morning. It was a quiet night besides that one incident. When his relief came in the morning Ittindi was surprised so much time had passed. He wishes he had a little extra time, the caravan in the sun was covered in dust, something he didn’t notice at night. The mercenary would hand Ittindi his reward as he gave his report on the quiet night.
