Although it had been a few weeks since she had her encounter with the pirate crew near Hargeon, Ryuko's thoughts still drifted back to the encounter every now and then. Although she had gone there in the hope of vanquishing the pirates that terrorized Hargeon, she had instead found the crew annihilated and the lone survivor could only tell her that a cloaked figure had taken the relic the pirates had discovered.

What made Ryuko even more curious was the fact this figure, judging from the vision she had experienced was wearing a pendant that had the symbol of a dragon, a dragonkin worshipper... That seemed unlikely unless there was more going on than it appeared. But in that case, who or what was being worshipped?

In recent days she started to hear more and more rumors about pirate crews appearing on the coastline of Hargeon, seemingly searching for something or someone. Were they looking for the relic or the one who took it? If that was the case, maybe they would have more information about the events that she had been left unaware of.

But even then Ryuko couldn't shake off the feeling of concern, she knew a confrontation now would come with increased risks...

Indeed, ever since the events at Caelum Ryuko knew that should she be forced into a battle there would be risks involved, risks for her enemy that is. Although she might had appeared fine and rational right now, she knew that it was akin to the surface of a lake, untroubled and unfazed till someone disturbed its waters.

She had started to wander along the beach, heading in the direction where the townsfolk had last seen the pirates, and quietly wondered if there wasn't any way to avoid a confrontation altogether. It was unlikely, if she showed hesitation the pirates would see it as a sign of weakness, and if she tried to warn them of the threat she possessed toward them they would likely think she was trying to provoke them.

If only they had known the truth... Certainly, she might have possessed dragon-like features in her humanoid shape, which was a trait not often found even among demi-humans, they likely wouldn't be intimidated enough by that to refrain from fighting her. A pity, because even after the recent events she still didn't like needless violence, and she knew all too well that if she was provoked there would be more than just blood being shed.

It wouldn't have taken much longer till she found the people she had been searching for. Further inland near where she had previously found the pirate crew a group of pirates were visibly guarding the cave. She could overhear some of the nearby pirates conversing with each other, not expecting her presence at all.

"Should we really be here? I mean, it makes no sense! Someone killed the captain's little brother and his crew, and instead of finding the asshole who did it, we're here searching for god knows what?"

The calmer pirate of the duo shook his head. "We're here searching for clues. The captain certainly must know what he is doing, and likely shares your anger as well."

So they were here searching for clues? Then perhaps she might had found an opportunity. Emerging from behind the rocks Ryuko raised both her hands into the air to show she was no threat and called out to the nearby pirates that stood guard. "I couldn't help but overhear you lot are searching for the same person I am?"

The younger pirate who had made his emotional declaration earlier glanced in her direction, although his gaze turned slightly more relaxed and somewhat lecherous upon seeing her, but fortunately the older pirate elbowed his crewmate to snap him out of his daze. "And you are?" To which Ryuko replied curtly.

"An adventurer of sorts, seeking the one responsible for killing your friends."

The other pirates had already gathered, their leader stating in a calm tone. "Fine, Cap will decide what to do with you, until then get on the boat, we're sailing back to our ship soon."

As the pirates guided Ryuko to the boat and started to ferry her to the concealed ship the dragon girl remained silent, pondering about her options. As much as she disliked criminals, they could possess information tied to the mysterious man she was looking for. As a result she would try to control her disgust toward them for a while. Finally the ship sailed into the harbor, causing Ryuko to be led onto the deck as the pirates explained the situation to their captain. "You knew my brother?" Ryuko shook her head lightly at the question of the man. "I didn't, but the one responsible for his death... Is someone I'm hunting for."

The captain stroke his beard, pondering for a moment. "Mutual enemies hmm?" It made sense for them to team up, and after a moment he shifted his gaze to one of his crewmembers, a light nudge of his head following. The pirate quickly dropped a small sack filled with treasure at her feet. "Consider this an advance pay for the hunt, there be more if you bring me the bastard's head. My name is Cayne by the way." The dragon girl nodded her head curtly. "Ryuko." As her tail swished around the sack she pulled it toward her while the pirate captain mused softly. "A dragon themed name for a dragon girl hmm? There is some irony in that. Either way, I'll be waiting to hear back from you."

with the man's words spoken Ryuko was brought back to the shore, so far she had a solid idea of what to do next. First she would use the treasure she received to get a compensation from the knights stationed at Hargeon, and then perhaps she would go and seek out some information. Surely someone must had heard some rumors? Not anyone could take down a entire pirate's crew with such ease by themselves, and judging from the memory the assailant who killed the pirates used some sort of dragonic magic. But for now all she could do was rely on her wits and follow her guts in tracking down this enigmatic stranger!

Returning to the inn Ryuko had already set in motion some of her plan. As expected the knights were more than willing to pay her handsomely for the reward of returning the treasure, and after asking around in town she did overhear of some powerful adventurers appearing around the area, but she couldn't get any more intel beyond just that which she found just a tiny bit disappointing.

At least the food of Hargeon was more than delicious enough to keep her occupied while she waited for a juicy rumor to come in, and then after a few days it did! Rumors spoke of a young man clad in a hooded cloak who was able to breathe fire! Not exactly the most reliable of descriptions but some said his arms were covered by thick dragon-like scales, and that was enough to warrant an investigation in Ryuko's opinion. She wasn't certain yet on what to expect, but with her curiosity stirred she delved deeper into the rumors and learned the traveler had been hunting down pirates in Hargeon for a mysterious reason, but he never was seen returning with any of the pirates or treasure! Just people always found corpses in his wake...

suspicious to say the least!

But perhaps there was a clue in that. An adventurer who seemingly been hunting pirates but cared neither for the bounty on the pirates their heads nor about the treasure they had stolen. If anything it might had been someone looking for a fight, or maybe... very maybe it was someone looking for something a pirate had in their possession?
