Kazimir and the Southern Arbiter begin the climb back up the mountain. The rocks are large and the two clamber around the large boulders. Neither of them wanted to use their magic for fear they would be ambushed in a weakened state. “You have inhuman strength,” the arbiter said with a questioning tone. Kaz gave her a side-eye, wondering if she was trying to get something out of him. Some weakness she could exploit in their battle.

“Many things begin to seem inhuman with all we have seen,” Kaz evaded the question and shoved some rocks out of the way. She smiled at his response. “Fair enough. No talking until after our fight.” They exchanged a look of mutual respect. Kaz’s head snapped to the front as did the arbiter. They both felt the strong ripple through the vibrations of the wind. Kazmir dashed backward. The arbiter shrouded herself in a shield of wind. Razor-sharp leaves ripped through the air.

They shattered the small rocks where Kaz’s feet once were. The bladed leaves slashed the windshield, leaving gaps in the wind until the barrier faded. The path and the forest was covered with leaves floating softly in the gentle breeze of the wind.

Kaz took a small step forward and the leaves violently hurled themselves at the mage. He dashed into the air once more and the leaves cut into the earth. He spoked his finger through a hole in his tunic, from a leave getting too close for comfort. “Well.”

“Can you make a distraction?” The arbiter asked. Kazimir landed back down and conjured a small tornado that moved with the flick of his wrist. The arbiter cast a barrier of wind around the two of them, but they could still see through it.

“Ah, I see. Let’s get it done then,” Kaz flung his hand to the side. The tornado hurled through the trees in a zig-zag pattern. The leaves showered down on the gust of wind.

Meanwhile, the arbiter moved forward and the dome of protective air moved with the two of them. Rogue leaves struck out at them, but the barrier was enough to repel the meager attack. Kaz focuses on leading the other razor leaves away from them and chasing the tornado.

A few leaves ripped forward. Kaz rose his other hand and a blade of wind whipped them out of existence. The barrier flickered with so many attacks coming in but never put them in mortal danger. The two moved under the cloak of the night until they reached the arena once more. Kaz collapsed and let the arbiter give the run down to the spirits. The sorcerer was catching his breath.

Kazimir and the arbiter returned to the lodging area for the night. A smooth wind blew in. The two had rooms across the hall from one another. They both stopped as their hands pressed against the doorknobs of their rooms.

“Tomorrow we will be enemies. We may fight to the death Kazimir.”
“I know,” Kaz said reluctantly.

“Have you ever killed anyone that wasn;t necessary?”

“I suppose that depends on who you ask,” Kaz replied, thinking about his clan that had come after him. “I don’t intend on fighting you to the death though.”

“That’s upstanding of you…but it may be the only way. I want the item. But in the meantime. Perhaps...a last meal.”

Kaz was ready to reply and say he was going to find a way, but if he had to he would. Instead, that thought was replaced with a smile. “Let’s enjoy a last meal together then,” Kaz answered and the two had a small meal together, talking about how their lives brought them here.

The morning had come with the sun high in the sky. Kaz stood with his feet tapping on the arena floor. The southern arbiter enters and the spirits call for the battle to begin. Kazimir could feel the power of Byakko pushing him to go further.

Kaz dashed like a silent wind across the battlefield. It was nearly instant. He could see the arbiter's eyes struggling to keep pace with him. He swiped repeatedly, sending blades of wind flying toward his opponent. She blocked with a barrier and conjured an armor of wind around herself. Kazmir flipped backward as the woman burst out of her barrier and stabbed at Kaz. The blade kicked his stomach and blood trickled down the blade. He felt his body get slower and knew what it was. A sneaky trick, but a good plan. The woman charged with barriers, protecting herself from the wind blades.

Kaz flipped back once more and rose his hand, shrouding himself in darkness before becoming invisible. Once he was unseen, he launched a series of magical blades, all blocked by her barrier. It was a distraction from the whirlwind he conjured beneath her feet. The arbiter went flying and spiraled into a building.

She laid on the ground, half motionless. Kaz extended a hand to her. “I don’t need to kill her,.” He said.

In that moment a blade of wind severed the woman’s head from her body. The eastern arbiter returned with a vengeance. He charged in and Kaz back-flipped out of the way and sent a surge of wind at the imposter. They exchanged blow after blow. Each time Kaz looked down at the dead Southern arbiter. The spirits angered and rumbled.

“Why’d you do that?” Kaz asked.

“Because I felt like it. You needed to give more passion.” The veins in Kaz's arms pulsed and he roared to the heavens. A dozen tornadoes crashed down on The man. The side of his face cracked open, revealing a divine light.

“What in the world?” Kaz asked and the masked man began to spring away. “It's not your turn and what are you?” Kaz tried to ask but the arbiter spun on his head and kiped up to kick Kaz in the chest. The blow staggered the wind mage. He rubbed his gut from the blow and took a ready stance.
