The light mended the wound and ti sealed tight. Hair and flesh wove back together. Blood from the southern arbiter poured out across the battlefield. Kaz clenched his fists together. Rage swelled within him at the death of the woman. She was his enemy but an honorable one. There was none to be found in this moment.

“Yes. Fill that anger,” The easter arbiter snarled. They were words that Kaz had heard before. A long time ago it felt now, and even so they rang so clearly. His eyes widened with suspicion, but it had to be a coincidence. “I have what I need now,” the arbiter replied and lowered his arms with a smirk on his face. He swayed back toward the exit.

“No,” Kaz exhaled from his nose and dashed forward at the man. The arbiter threw his hands up and a dark portal opened up. From within it, ghostly beings flooded out. They clawed their way out of the portal one by one. Their shapes were twisted versions of man and beast, made of wisps and shadow.

“The fallen,” Kaz darted off in a different direction. The fallen slammed into the ground at the location Kaz was just at. The wind mage hovered in the air. The spirits of the arena whispered what the mage already knew. The fallen had returned and whoever this was was on their side and also the one that probably broke the seal in the first place.

“You’re an imposter,” Kaz yelled and dodged a flurry of tendrils from the ghost of the fallen order. The man chuckled and stepped into the archway that led to the outside and back down the mountain. “I came here to get information on the book and the constellations. I have that now. While you were all distracted with the little battle. I took it.”

Kazimir landed on a column and sent a blade of wind cutting through a group of fallen enemies. Kazimir dropped down to the ground level and dashed forward once more at the leader of the group.

The man vanished deeper down the mountain. The Fallen crowded the wind mage and leapt on top of him. Kaz screamed and struggled against them in fury. The spirit of Byakko raged within as the grounds were being desecrated.

A growl came from Kaz. His muscles tightened and teeth gritted together. A burst of wind sent the Fallen flying off. He dashed through them and struck them down in fractions of seconds. One by one, the ghosts disappeared.

Kaz dashed backward but his force weas stopped,. An opposing force slowly drug him forward. A towering beast of a being loomed before him. A sword made of light against the backdrop of a body of shadows. A dark hood was its head, that flowed into a cape. A golden halo surrounded its head.

“An Angel? A demon?” Kaz questioned as he rolled to try and get free. He was clawing at the ground like the fallen had been when they tried to emerge from the portal.

Kaz was yanked from the ground and pulled toward the being. It slashed its sword of light at the unarmed kazimir. The blood gushed out Kaz’s side and sent him spiraling upward. The pull arrived again and slammed the mage back down to the earth. Slowly his body was being pulled toward the new enemy. Fallen ones, bite and scratched at him along the way.

“Gravity,” kaz groaned as he felt the force of it weighing down on him . The wind mage Took in a deep breath. “If you can’t fight it. Flow with it,” he repeated and pressed his hand above his head. A burst of wind sent him flying towards the tall being. Going with the pull of gravity rocketed Kaz behind the creature in the blink of an eye. The wind mage kicked off the ground and kicked a funnel of wind at the beast. The wind tunnel engulfed the beast.

The towering dark captain of the fallen swung its blade once more. It clipped the loose strands of Kazimir’s hair. “The Wind clan will atone,” The monster spoke. Kaz stood shocked, thinking about what it could mean but there was no time. The light sword was tearing toward him once more. Kazimir whirled around the blade with a mad dash. Once he was within palm’s reach of the giant, he shot his hand forward. A tunnel of wind roared to life and engulfed the behemoth. With the fallen gone, Kaz turned to the spirits.

“What is going on here,” Kaz asked.

“Follow the path down the corridor,” the voice of the spirits said. The wind mage followed the path into a small chamber. Pictures decorated the walls, and depicted a great battle of the clans. The wind clan was shown…attacking a group of people. Those people were slaughtered and their souls did not find rest. They became twisted versions of themselves and then the Fallen were born.

“You were orphaned with us because of your ancestor. He was one of us,” Kaz whipped his head back to the spirits. They bore a stone cold look on their celestial faces, now revealed to the wind mage. A flicker of light floated by the wind mage and landed on the image of a man. Kaz ran his fingers over the artwork. His mind flooded with the vision of that man, striking down people that would become the Fallen. He was a wind mage with indigo hair. “It can’t be,” Kaz pulled his hand back from the image.

“The powers of the wind were raw and offensive back then. It corrupted some. Your ancestor and the wind clan believed those people to be a threat. So they were killed before they could become one.”

Kaz shied away from the image. He rested his back against a wall. “So the clan…my ancestor…are the reason the fallen are the way they are.” Kaz slid his back down the wall onto his butt and let his arms hang over his legs. His hair was messy and fell to one side.

“That is why your parents left you here. They knew the family history but not all the dangers of it all,” Byakko said. Kazimir took a deep breath and pushed himself back to his feet. He knew his parents had done what they needed. That was clear from Adriana. And now he had another piece of the puzzle. I suppose that information is helpful. I have no choice but to fight them again though. And find out who that man really is.”

Kazimir suddenly jerked his head up. He ran out of the room and stormed toward the northern arbiter’s chambers. Within, he found the man’s body and then the eastern arbiter. They were both killed and removed from the equation. Kazimr placed hsi hand on the door frame. More death and destruction. Perhaps that was just his place in this life. “I am the last one now. I have to face him,” Kaz was tired of saying that. But it was true. He often found himself one of the last. The last of his clan, the last of his crew in the knights, and now the last arbiter of wind. “Alright, Where are the seven constellations?” Kaz asked. The spirits told the wind mage to head down into the city. But they have been unable to detect their presence. Kaz concluded that they must have already been taken prisoner or in hiding. Either way, he had to leave now. The mage jumped onto his griffon and took off.
