The marshland beneath his feet was annoying, if not good training for balance. Joshua had been allowed to train here by the nearby farmers after assuring no one would be in harm's way. He had removed his shirt and mask, letting them stay safely in his bag. He began to focus his magic into his hands and through his arms.

Joshua hadn't always had a talent for magic. It was only after the destruction of his village did he learn the ways of magic, if only to better control his own sudden strange powers. The mana that flowed through his limbs wasnt Icy cold, or burning hot. It was something like a ticklish river running over every part of his arms.

He couldnt help but shudder, in combat that ticklishness was blocked by his adrenaline. But while he trained, his body was able to feel the slight sensation and he couldnt resist the physical effect it had on his body. The magic sigil that formed and twisted into his magic circle. He settled into a balanced stance and simple let the circle float there, the mana flowed against itself the sensation he felt was si.ilair to stretch and working out his muscles.

He thought back to when he had first unlocked this magic, and how it had been so drastically different to the fire magic he had once possessed. He wondered to himself what had caused the change, but he was grateful for it.

He hated fire magic, and in truth probably had a small fear of fire now. But he wouldnt let that stop him. He would learn to conquer his fears, even if only because now he can reflect the. Back and away from himself. He prepared himself for the next struggle and resumed training.

The mana flowed into the circle and ebbed back out. Joshua took his time and allowed the magic to begin forming into a small almost hand held sized round mirror. He breathed in and then out letting himself relax and refine the mana in the mirror. Learning and developing a new spell wasnt easy. But joshua had begun to enjoy the prospect of training, if only because it allowed his ego to flourish just a little bit.

He breathed in deeply and he repositioned his body slowly. Taking the time to learn the way the mana in the spell moved, Joshua placed both hands together and breathed out. The young hunter breathed in once again and let his mana flow into the hand sized mirror. It shimmered and wobbled softly as he slowly and safely injected his mana into the mirror. He had learned from experiance that injecting his mana to fast before properly learning the spell could have explosive results.

Joshua breathed in once again and slowly began to separate his hands. The small movement caused the mirror to shake in the air and slowly expand. It seemed to struggle and Joshua grunted as he gritted his teeth. This was the hard part, he needed to learn to expand the spell at a safe rate, If he put too much it would explode, if he didnt put enough, it would not expand at all.

His thoughts once again turned to his destroyed village. If there had been someone like himself there, with the power to have helped, his people would be alive, if only for Joshua to be dead in their place, but that had been something Joshua would have perfered to what had actually happened. He felt his inner resolve grow again, and harden as he swore to himself he wouldnt give up.

He breathed in deeply and forced his mana to settle. He soon released the breath as the mirror began to maintain it's new size. He smiled to himself as he took just a few more minutes to let the magic settle. He stood up and stretched his muscles relieving the tensin caused by the strain of his mana.

He walked around the mirror, testing how well it moved at this speed, it seemed to move a tad bit faster despite its slightly larger form. He swung it around quickly letting the mirror move at full speed with his hand movements.

He smiled to himself and took a good look at his stubble covered face and he laughed. He then slapped his hands together and forced the mana once more into the mirror. He grunted and felt it fight against him as he forced it to expand once more and grow in size. His own hands were struggling to stay together without a hard grip. He grunted and struggled to lay his hands flat against each other once again as the mirror grew then shrank and grew again, struggling. He held the position struggling and sweating as the mirror adjusted.

He wondered if his father was looking down on him. He wondered what he thought of the men his son had allied himself with. When. He had first met Konstantin, the goals he spoke of resonated with Joshua, but after seeing who else was being hired, he began to question his judgement on that matter. He wondered if his father was proud of him for taking the path he had taken in his life. Joshua was scared at that idea, at the idea of having failed and dishonored his father and mothers legacy. Without his village, what else would he have left if he had also dishonored his families name.

The struggle to keep the magic contained was harsh. His mana burned and he could feel the magical lay lines in his body heating up. He grunted and felt the blood vessel in his nose pop, as a stream of blood poured from it for a moment. The air around him swirled with wild mana as he was thrown back from te mirror and landing on his back in the mud. He sighed and played there for a second, licking the blood from his upper lip. He stood up and groaned as he stretched and he got himself feeling loose again.

He slapped his hands together again and forced the mana to flow, he grunted and yelled at it letting his frustrations out in curse words and annoyed grunts. He held his hands together with a full clasp, the struggle hurt, but he could feel it begin to solidify and hold it's new shape.

The mirror shimmered and glowed as its edges changed once more in design and grew in size as the mirror inside grew to match it at the same rate. He struggled for a bit to hold control, but after a little bit of struggle Joshua smiled at his new creation. But he wasnt done yet.

Joshua's inner thoughts weren't nearly as confident as his movements were. He was thinking of the day he had met Luis, the young shipmate who he had grown close to on his way to Fiore. He wondered, if he had done right by Luis. Did he teach him well in the short time he was with him? Had he been an upstanding role model like he had once been? Or had he let the destruction of his home garden his heart and make him into something he hated?

He panted and smiled to himself. Joshua swung the mirror around again, he was finding it to be alot faster then his other spells had been. Perhaps he had unlocked some new level of control? If so he would learn it well. Her calmed him self woth a slow breath in and then out. Before launching into a combat form, attacking with his fists and legs, dodging and swinging the mirror in to block and reflect the non existant attacks.

Joshua ran toward the forest line, and controlled the mirrors movements as he ran with his fingers. It was like being back on the farm he had lived on. Despite being given to the church, he had a normal life like any other young man in his village. With troubles and fun alike. The tall marsh grasses touched and danced on his skin as he ran, reminding him of the fields of wheat he and his friends would run through.

He wondered if he would die a good death one day, perhaps one fitting to redeem him in the eyes of his god... that was a thought he hadnt had in along time. He stopped running and watched as the mirror did the same at his command. But where one would see themselves, joshua looked in the mirror and saw the past him. The one who smiled every day with a hopeful love for life, and who carried his book of holy words and knew every baby in the village, as he had not only helped deliver them, but baptized them in the name of Illumin. The figure in the mirrors face was scratched away, except for the smile.

Joshua couldnt help but feel a pang of guilt as he looked at that smile. But also a pang of anger.

The smile was a smile of forgiveness. One he would have given to the young teens and old elders of his village as he listened to their confessions. He felt his resolve shake for a moment. How could he ever forgive himself? He had let their entire village be burned down by the angel of the god he served. The God he had always served... Joshua fell to his knees sobbing for the first time since it had happened. But as he let the wave of guilt and self hatred was toward him. He felt a sudden warmth and lightness. He looked up, and where there had been a mirror, there was himself. As if he had been touched on the shoulder by himself through the mirror, and spoken to in hushed whispers.

The moment washed away, with Joshua being alone in the marsh lands once again. He looked up at the starry night sky. He closed his eyes and... and did something he had not done in a long time.

He prayed. Not with a book, or with religious items. He simply closed his eyes and let his heart open to the world as he once had in a much happier time. He prayed for the safety of his friend he had met along his journey, he prayed for the souls of his people, and their ancestors before them. Lastly, he set his hands on his knees and with a sign of hesitation, he spoke to his God, to Illumin. He didnt ask for answers, or for an understanding. He would never be able to understand how the creator could so callously destroy his creations. But he wasnt feeling angry at the moment. No, instead he simply smiled and opened his eyes once more as he looked up and spoke.

"I Forgive you."

He stayed there quietly for a moment before rising from te muddy ground and quietly making his way back to his gear. After redressing and cleaning his pants up as best as possible, he made his way quietly back to where he was staying. The night air whispered answers that he would never hear. But Joshua was okay with that. At least for the moment.
