It was yet another lovely day in Marigold Town, although Rania had to admit that she was slowly but steadily growing tired of the farmer town. It wasn’t that this was a bad place, but eventually she figured it would be a good idea to return somewhere more populated. Not that she minded the quiet, cozy town, but it just felt as though she had been here for far longer than intended. And it was actually true. Rania came to Marigold with the intention of staying two, maybe three weeks to cool off from her stressful daily routine at the Magnolia Hospital. It’s the life she chose, but she also had to admit that taking a vacation every once in a while was a nice thing to do.

Besides, Marigold was so small that nothing much ever happened here and that included trouble. The first few week she had been doing nothing but to doze off in the sun, enjoy the weather and her free time, shop and look through all the local stores and boutiques and whatnot. But so far it felt as though Rania had actually been everywhere already and there was nothing else for her to explore. Although perhaps that wasn't entirely right. There had been a significant change in her equipment after all and Rania had finally decided to make a purchase. She bought a staff, a so called Hierophant staff. It was a weapon for mages just like herself, although mostly what it did was to improve her spells and make them easier to cast. Rania had never used or carried around a staff like that before, but it seemed like the right thing to buy at that time.

It already turned out to be incredibly useful and she liked the way it looked when she was carrying it around. In many ways it made her feel like some sort of priestess and she simply liked that. However, Rania had decided to practice her skills and abilities beyond that. She wanted to improve and become good at what she did.

Of course her magic was mostly intended for healing, but it could be used for damaging and hurting others as well. And even to defend herself if she had to. But to make new purchases, Rania first of all needed more money. And making money of course wasn’t that easy, that’s why she decided to take on more jobs in general that would help her out with that. There was a wooden mission board in the middle of the town, that had plenty of flyers pinned to it. Those flyers were filled with information regarding help and assistance that different clients needed and anyone who was able to help would be able to pick them up and contact the person that the flyer was from.

Rania had done this type of work before, so this certainly wasn’t anything new to the young Paladin. She walked over to the mission board and looked around to see if she could see any familiar clients and names on there. And there were actually familiar clients and names! Farmer Jim for once, who was a cabbage farmer that was obsessed with his cabbages. He had already requested her help once before and even though it was simple work, it was also very earnest and of course related to his cabbages. This time he needed help with something else though and Rania decided to give this a go. She picked up the flyer and began reading the info that had been written down on it.

The problem itself was both fairly normal, but also very unusual. Apparently there was an infestation of vines. There were vines that just kept on growing and growing without stopping and no one knew exactly where they came from or why there were so many. It seemed that farmer Jim needed someone to cut those vines down before they grow over everything.

Rania figured that this job was simple enough and she could easily do it. Rania decided to accept the mission and walked into the farmlands, where the vines were as well as farmer Jim. Farmer Jim then decided to explain the situation to her again, and he mostly emphasized that he wasn’t quite sure where the vines were coming from, but that he needed her to find the source and destroy it, even with magic if she had to. That was something that Rania could do, or so she thought. She had even brought her hierophant staff along to assist her in casting magic. With all that cleared up, the Paladin went on her merry way.

Into the grassland she went, following the vines and cutting them off with a machete. Every now and then she even decided to burn them with her magic if she felt as though that was appropriate, but it seemed that the vines were coming back nonstop and that there was a source somewhere that was producing an endless amount of them. If Rania would find that search, surely she would have an easier time ending this plague. She went deeper and deeper into the grassland and eventually she couldn’t help but feel that the vines were alive. Which made perfect sense, after all they were plants and alive for sure, but Rania thought that there might be something out there that was giving them power.

She continued to cut through the vines and used her light magic to partially burn her way through the thicket of vines. Eventually, after she had made her way through what appeared to be a nest she saw a bright blue orb hovering in between a shit ton of vines. It appeared that even more vines were growing from where that orb was located at and going by the power and magic it emitted, it seemed that this orb had to be responsible for the vines and all the chaos. With her Hierophant Staff, Rania popped the orb open and effectively broke it. The light died out and the vines all seemed to lose their energy as well. It appeared this was the reason for all the vines growing so fast. With the job done, Rania returned to farmer Jim and picked up her reward before leaving.
