Erebus

Erebus sat on a rock, cliff-siding the river, his rod was held in one hand. One leg hung lazily over the edge. Fifteen feet behind his location a small tepee tent was made, which was where the rogue was residing. He preferred the outdoors to the Inns when he could, after all the forests taught him so much. They helped him find his soul judgement, and despite all his sins. He was Human, and humans are flawed, so as long as he lived on good intentions, Erebus was a good guy. His role in this world to help others and survive, protecting his own neck first so he could help even more people.

After his quest with Juni the night before; the Rogue was fresh out of work, and had cleaned his clothes earlier in the river, leaving his cloak and hood a bit damp. However, at least it didn't smell like sewage. What Erebus hadn't done was get a good meal, hence why he was fishing for food and hoping to pick up another job tonight around twelve.

The area was secluded and pretty hidden, as well as a steep walk to get where he was, so Erebus feared little about being hunted despite the fact he had a growing reputation, and that his name was being passed around to similar outlaws like himself. In the worst case scenario he would be fighting someone, in the best case scenario, he was getting a meal and a nap in.

Erebus began to pull on the reel, seeing is how he felt a tug at the bottom and had little patience to just sit after all this time. So far he hadn't caught anything too good, and Erebus was no fool, he might be out here another hour before he could catch anything. Then again, he was an optimist at his core, so he felt no reason to remove himself just yet. He simply sighed, staring over the river below. The warm summer breeze kissing his cheeks.

Vivi Ramstein
Warm weather was always a good excuse to go for a swim. The cool, refreshing waters of a running river were just perfect for it too, and Vivi certainly wouldn't complain about being made to walk a fair distance just to enjoy it. Besides, a nice little dip in the river also made for a good way to get clean when one couldn't afford a place to stay. Weeks on the open road had a habit of wearing away at a small saving of jewels. All she really had left were the clothes on her back, but complaining about that wouldn't get her very far either. So, best just to enjoy the small things, especially with how easy it was to find enjoyment compared to funds.

She hummed a rather careless tune while she floated down the river. Head upturned towards the sky while the sun kept her at just the right temperature, it almost felt like she could fall asleep even as the current carried her along. The better part too, to her mind, was that even her clothes would be clean by the time she drifted off to wherever she was headed. She wasn't quite sure how far the river went. Surely she'd wake up before she reached the end if she did end up falling asleep.

Yet, before she could, something caught her eye. A stranger, unless her eyes were mistaken. A fisherman? She wasn't quite sure. He seemed to be alone, which already was somewhat odd given the spot. Wasn't it usually better to roam with someone else? The more she looked at him, the more interesting the situation seemed. But, at a certain point, she rather forgot that she might actually say something and only continued to drift by lazily while still staring the stranger down.

Erebus

Erebus whistled a nice little tune as his hand continued to spin the string on the rod up, as he glanced down he caught eye as a woman, with antler like horns drifted down the stream. Clearly she was as curious about him as he was of her.

It was then that he realized his rod was tight as she was continuing to drift. Erebus knew one of two things was going to happen. Either he was going to ruin her clothing, or he was about to have to make himself move.

He quickly jumped to his feet, began walking down the steep side of the rock as if to follow her down the river, his string getting tighter and tighter, "This isn't exactly what I expected when I thought I might get a good catch today." He joked warmly to the stranger, his cheeks kind of red from the sheer embarrassment, but his tone and expression held firmness to it. Suggesting that Erebus didn't normally get that way, and was really just trying to be gentle with the demi-human at the end of his line.

"How's the water out there, better than the shore I take it?" He said awkwardly, still offering her a smile. His dark clothing and green hair seeming to fit quite nicely with the forest in his background, just as Vivi seemed to befit the water she floated in. "I'm Erebus!" He finally called out, having paused for just a second to regather his thoughts. After all, they both must have known this was far enough outside city limits, that no one else should've been out here, it was kind of a shock.

Vivi Ramstein
Vivi didn't say anything for a few moments. She was rather preoccupied with figuring out whether or not her shirt was going to tear now that it was hooked on the fisherman's line. Given that it was her only one, and that she'd tended to it for hours by hand, she didn't quite feel like letting it wander off to such a sad fate. It appeared that, at least for the moment, her peaceful little journey down the river was going to be on hold. That may very well have been the greater shame overall for her. But, it beat being caught on a line.

With a sigh, she pushed herself up in the water and practically shoved her way towards the shoreline. It wouldn't really be called swimming, more like forcing the water out of her path. She made sure to keep pace with Erebus until the line was slack enough that she didn't need to worry about losing anything important. And as she drew closer to the shore, she got onto her feet again.

"I've never liked fishing with rods," She said while she untangled the hook from her collar and stepped onto the shore. "Too messy, too easy to lose. Much easier with a spear or with your bare hands. A lot more fun too." She looked him over, head tilted to one side quizzically. "You don't really look like the fisherman type. Not even a nice straw hat. Still, in honor of your catch I'll say well done." She held out her hand towards him. "Vivi."

Erebus

Erebus took the hook from her, as she explained his method not being her style, whereas she offered a few routes that one could say were a little more difficult but 'fun' to do. He didn't really have experience with spears, but he had fished like that during his 10-Day Judgement. So her comment, to a true lover of nature, went commendable.

"I don't do it professionally, so you're probably right." He answered with a warm charisma. A natural talent of his, being a smooth-talking rogue such a voice had never failed at drawing in connections, though, Erebus had a hard time feeling connected to others. Thus, he was usually a social outcast and lone quest-taker. "I'm on the adventurer life path, just journeying around and taking quests when I can, the fish is cheaper than a over-priced meal though and I quite like my jewels going towards improving my gear so I can keep everything in round-robin, full-circle." He shook his head from the left to the right as he spoke, winding the rod back up. He pointed over towards his rock; thumb jutting out.

Using his spare hand, the Rogue shook Vivi's and left formalities to history.

"Pleased to know you. Sorry about all of that, if I haven't said so yet. There's probably better spots to go fishing out here, but that one had a neat view, I also took a pretty difficult task last night so I felt like keeping everything simple on myself this morning." He reasoned.

He then quickly realized how rude he must have seemed, and frowned. "If I'm holding you up, just let me know. You seemed at ease out there and everything." Erebus was a genuine person but most if not all his over-talking was in part due to things he needed to distract other's from. After all, closing off anything Vivi might have found suspicious was primary to his intelligence, for example, his bounty if she were up to date on the boards in town. Why he had one, was kind of bogus; but nothing's fair in a society.

"Ah," Vivi intoned. She gave Erebus another look over, smiling a bit now at the sight of him. She could see it now, the very epitome of strength just exuding off of him. One could find it if they knew where to look. The eyes were always a good tell. You could see years of experience in someone's eyes just based on how aged they looked. Someone could be as young as a freshly grown flower and still have the wisdom of a great oak, she'd learned that before. And she could see some of it in him too. "So, are you some kind of hero then? Crusading across the land, helping the small folk, that sort of thing? Or maybe some dastardly villain like in children's fairy tales?" Her expression didn't change with the mention of either. "You don't have to answer," She continued. "Everyone has their own story, and not everyone wants to share it. That's alright by my account."

She looked over her shoulder at the river. "Truth be told, I'm not sure where I was headed. I needed a bath, and I wanted to stay cool. That's all that was really in my head when I jumped in." Scratching her cheek, she laughed a bit. "I suppose I must not be in a hurry to go anywhere if I wasn't in a rush to go any faster than the current. That seems to be a pretty good measure to go by. Very natural."

Erebus

The way she spoke was mesmerizing to someone like Erebus. Her imagination painted portraits of him in both light and darkness, a world he often was faced with in reality. To be selfless was hard, to be selfish easier, and that was what life had taught him. Hardship, the surrender of his individuality and ego. For a greater good one could say, to lose pursuit of people's attention at all, was to embody being true sacrifice in this field of work. To know you're here to aide in the continuity of the defenseless; it was a proud feeling, an internal strength. Unknownst to Erebus, Vivi had spotted that very thing.

Sacrifice.

For Erebus, that was enough to give his life, which is why he was a vigilante at all. Not all heroes are as the books tell them to be though, Erebus was known first as a thief, prone to making sure he had the means to protect. He still was that, and he knew that was a quality he could only atone for by turning it around. This made the Rogue one of a flawed chaotic nature compared to other heroes, but no one would argue his intentions, his intentions were pure. That was all he needed to be a Hero, who could deny it?

Snapping back in from inner thought, his mind drew back onto the Ram Lady. "Ah, it's not that Vivi. It's actually much more simple than all of that. I do what I can to help other's, I choose my own accommodation though, since people do like to underpay me." He joked. "I'm not the most popular choice by most guys, they just know I do my job well and that's all I can hope for," Erebus let it slip. With no where to turn back, he decided he'd talk it up then. Get it off his shoulders. "It gets me into some trouble here and there. Just miscommunications."

He paused and looked the girl over, finding it a good time to size her the way she did him. During this time, she described the current she took down river. The first thing obviously to draw his curiosity, were Vivi's horns, they definitely stuck out & Erebus was drawn to know about them, but figured people her whole life probably asked her that same question. So Erebus took a different route; he chose not to pry. The girl was tall for a woman and athletically fit to boot, without loss to her womanly figure. Her choice of wear was unorthodox too, resembling an olden era of Joyan wear.

"Oh yes, perfectly natural.. So should I swim with you or would you want to fish with me?" Erebus found the words falling before he could think over what he should have said. Oh well, no going backsies.

Vivi laughed, a sound like a heavy melody hanging in the air for maybe just a bit too long. "You're straightforward," She replied. "That takes some courage. I bet it gets you a lot of unhappy looks from people." She scratched her nose. "Well, I'm not done with my bath, so I'm going to finish that. You can...do whatever it is you do. To each man their own, right? That's what I always say anyway. Good rule for the road. Don't bother anyone that's not bothering you, but crush anyone that stands in the way of your goal." She gave Erebus a smile. "Less people get in your way if you set a strong example. I think that's the bigger lesson in all of this."

Taking a few steps back again, Vivi dove right back into the water. After a few moments, she came back up to the surface with her hair covering almost the entire upper half of her face. With a laugh, she swam against the current, backstroking back up towards the small campsite that she assumed Erebus had set up for himself.

"Popularity is overrated," She said. "You shouldn't worry about something like that. If people like you then they like you. If they hate you then they hate you. Sometimes it just isn't worth trying to change people's minds. At the end of the day, what matters is that you like yourself."

Erebus

"Please, you flatter me. I'm just doing my part for the world, I think everyone owes the our world something. It's about finding out what you can do for it that really matters. I have to survive, and more than survive I have to improve..." Erebus added to her comment. She was very complimentary and it was refreshing. Erebus was a solo-rider, and never got these kind of uplifting messages before, not in his entire life really. "Mm, definitely not the happiest looks, that much you're right about." He measured with a huff of stress, his hand reach his temple to rub sweat away. Vivi was taller than him, so when she told him what to do he nodded. A dip would be nice but there was plenty of time for that.

He was sure she might be hungry though, and his stomach was rumbling already. "Well, I do still need a meal in me. Would you like to stay for lunch? I just need to catch two fish, then I skin and roast us something." He reached into his pouch at his waist and removed a vial of orange spices. "I have a soft spot for cooking, and pick up different seasonings in every town." Erebus withdrew his attention from her and walked to his tent, the Rogue moved a pot away from his bag by the fire-pit. Erebus looked to be searching the sack for something, a special thing he knew would speed his task up exponentially. He made sure to ignore the comment about popularity, having been a weird kid. Erebus had been used up by all his friends for caring too much. So it was a sour subject to his liking. Popularity meant use for abuse, and so he always tried to push it away.

"Eh, I'm not headed anywhere," She reiterates. "So I suppose if you're offering I could stick around for a bit of fish. Can't say it's common for anyone to offer me a meal these days, especially when I don't have even a single coin to return the favor with." She grins. "Thanks all the same. I'm sure you don't share your dinner with a lot of strangers. So I guess I just feel lucky that I meet your standards."

Vivi waded over towards the bank of the river, floating on her back so she can still get a good look at Erebus. The young woman lists about the water with hardly a care in the world, a playful smile on her face and nothing but a seemingly brightened mood in her heart. One might consider her practically unflappable just by her expression, and they wouldn't be far off the mark. Not much really can phase someone like her, someone practically unattached to the cares of the world aside from her own.

"I grew up in the countryside," She said. "Not much fish out there. It was usually brought in by traders and merchants. So it was something we didn't get to have very often. What kind of fish can you catch here though?"

Erebus

Erebus looked up from his bag, his eyes met with the Ram Lady's, he nodded and laughed. "Of course you do, I see you as a kindred spirit, and I see no reason to deny you the same kindness you'd offer back to me." He replied with an honest smile. He then pulled out a carton of special bait. This was a magical fishing supplement for higher catch percentage, and he spent a lick to get it.

"Walleye, Crappie, trout. Freshwater fish really." Erebus stood up and went back towards his rock, he attached the bait to the end of the line, rearing it up and around in a circle before pitching it out. The bait was special and should cause a fish to bite momentarily. As it drew fish from all corners of the river in for a bite. Vivi may even see them in the water as they closed in on the meal, the line began to tighten from Erebus, so he pulled the rod up, and began reeling.

Usually Erebus saved his special baits for trading, and he'd grind fishing for about an hour, catch between fifty to a hundred and sell them cheap. However, he recent acquired a large amount of Jewels. Erebus could survive without the extra fish justfor today, and would only fish til he had too. Raking in the fat Trout out of the water, Erebus peeled the hook from the side of it's guild. Lifting it in the air, he cheered himself a short victory. Then the rogue dropped his fish into the metal bucket he had sitting against the rock. He proceeded to use the rest of the special baits on the hook once more.

"The countryside must have been nice," Erebus said glancing up as he fashioned the rest of the hook. "I was a pick-pocket out of Oak as a kid, I lost my parents young, so I didn't have any attachments to hold me down growing up. I practiced a lot of stuff, but I never learned magic, I found a way to do my own thing. You train, or fight?"

"Fight," Vivi replied. "It's a part of who I am. Every day getting stronger and all of that. Wasn't really something in my blood though, I had to work hard to earn it." She looked down at her arm and tightened her right hand into a fist. "The first time I ever threw a punch, I remember how much it hurt. I had to wrap my hand in ice for three days." She laughed at the memory. "But, now it's a lot easier. And I'm a lot stronger too. But that bar was set pretty low. Really, really low. You know what they say though. When you start from the bottom, there's really nowhere to go but up and up and up."

She dragged herself out of the water slowly, crawling up onto the shore and laying out spread eagle in the grass. She was utterly soaked to the bone, but it didn't mean anything to her. Clean clothes and a clean body, that's what mattered to her. It beat smelling like a barn all day.

"I suppose some days that I wish it was easier. That I could just be strong without having to work for it. Who doesn't?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Sometimes the mountain ahead of me looks too big for even me to climb. And I can climb really good, that's why I'm so strong. But some challenges always seem so insurmountable. That won't stop me from trying though. I can keep on going every day if I need to, earning my stripes until the day I come out on top." She grinned with delight. "Maybe when that day comes, I can be the one to give you a meal. You know, provided I'm not still poor when that happens. Who knows?"

Erebus

Erebus continued to fish, while his eyes traced her path to the shore. The Rogue listened to his new friend talk about her struggles to stand up from a world, that to him, had no interest in strength. Which surprised him, as you'd think a Ram would love the fight.

This one did however, and it spelled a beautiful future for her if she kept climbing that mountain she spoke so highly about. It was too long ago Erebus was climbing that mountain himself, he still was. In fact, one would argue there was no top to that mountain even after you arrived.

"If you would ever like to train or get some practice in, I don't mind helping you out. Everyone needs help from time to time, some of us only figure that out because we didn't get the opportunity." He spoke, almost feeling the full effect of his long loneliness set in on him.

However, he was fast to shift off of an uncomfortable awkwardness. The reel began to tighten fast and Erebus used this to force the conversation in his direction. "Oh yeah! This one's big!" In one mighty pull backwards, Erebus back bent nigh inches from the ground, thrusting a large six foot catfish out of the water. Thankfully his fishing line was magically enchanted... Well, this was even better as he might not have to use anymore bait. They could just feast on this, and go to town to trade the rest.

When the fish came flying in, it brutally slammed it's large mass on the rock beside the adventurer, where he took two fingers and pressed into a spot that would calm the fish. Though because Erebus was a superhuman, it would end the fishes suffocation and take it to the afterlife. He then threw the creature over his shoulder and began to trot down.

"After we eat, show me some of your moves?" He said smiling, his hand motioning over to his fire pit.

Vivi Ramstein
Vivi gave Erebus a full round of applause as he pulled his haul in from the river. She'd never seen a fish so large, and certainly not one so, well, ugly. There was just something about the way it looked, how slippery and smooth it was, that really didn't appeal to her. She'd be a lot happier eating something like that than looking at it for any length of time. Though, it did almost remind her of one of her village elders. The whiskers seemed almost perfectly poised top evoke memories of that old man who had always been watching her with those beady little eyes. He'd been right, of course. Vivi was always destined to cause trouble, just not back home.

"That's a mighty haul for sure," She exclaimed. "You really know how to pull in a full meal in just one go, eh? Color me a full rainbow of impressed." She approached the fish carefully, giving it a few pokes with her finger. The thing was positively stuffed with fresh meat. Even around her village, where dear and wild birds were common, she'd never seen something quite this big.

"If you like," Vivi said eventually in response to Erebus's question. "I'm not sure I'm built to impress. I'm still learning the ropes really. There weren't any mages back home, no one even knew a tiny bit of magic to teach me so I'm still trying to teach myself the basics. I can still hit pretty hard, but I know I can get stronger too if I keep pushing myself."

Erebus

Erebus got right to work with his fire, preparing it in question. He then removed a knife from his satchel and starting getting to work on the... More disgusting sides to making fish.

More on the topic of combat returned in time when Vivi was ready to bring it to light. Seems she wasn't the most excited about it, or perhaps she wanted to spare the shorter Rogue. Regardless, he was very open to a little bit of it. Knowing his own abilities, he trusted them enough to throw with some mages. Vivi know doubt seemed to radiate potential. He imagined her with magic, but she also had he look for beatdown type street fighting. Perhaps her style was something along those lines.

"If that's the case, then you need my help," He said grinning, as the conclusion of her progress became clearer, so too did his understanding of her dream. A dream Erebus would drive home, he'd help her get some experience in. Besides, she would be able to play in her lane, Erebus was melee oriented himself. His Phantom Dancer clung to a sheathe under his cloak, aside from it. He possessed little else, maybe except for his magic robe he bought in Oak.

"I'm not one to quit after the first punch. I think we could go a few rounds for sure."

Vivi took a seat by the fire, warming herself up and doing her best to dry off. Fighting while soaked to the bone is definitely not the best experience, or at least she would make the assumption. All that extra weight, and the odds of slipping seemed like they would only increase. She'd much rather cover all of her bases when it came to fighting. She shook herself off a bit like a cat, spraying water droplets just about everywhere around her.

"I don't really doubt you can take a punch," Vivi replied. "In fact, I'd bet you could take several without much of an issue. I'm just not sure how many I could take from you." She smirked. "There's a difference between knowing you're strong and knowing your limits. I can go toe to toe with plenty of people in the world, but there's even more that I can't. And that's okay. Maybe by fighting you, I can learn how I can take on stronger opponents. That's what the journey is all about."

She looks up at him. "So, what do you think would be a good place to start with, wise master?"

Erebus

Erebus sat, his knees to his shoulder, as he continued with his cooking rituals. When Vivi sat down, he offered her a smile, and slid over a bit. She must have wanted dry because she splashed him a little. It didn't bother him, and he'd have probably done the same back to her in the same situation. "Feelin' toasty?" Erebus recalled he had marshmallows as well, that would be better suited after dinner though.

"Well thank you for believing in me. I believe in you too though," added the Rogue. As he pulled his dagger out to show her a little about his chosen method. "You do bring some good points up, and I suppose I am better than the average guy. Hmm... How about this, I'll just defend for a bit with my dagger, I can always show you what i can do later anyways. Is there any new magic or skills you've been trying to master? Why not try it here today." Erebus waited for her, allowing some time to fully dry, whereas he walked over to the sand, and began stretching. If closer inspection were made, Vivi would realize his legs were very flexible, as well as his body on his hips, signalling that Erebus was quite the type for agility. Though, he wasn't a God or anything close to the sense of the word. The man was still clearly skilled. It had been a minute since he could put himself up to taking a lick or two from a fighter.

Vivi brushed herself off and wrung out her clothes, squeezing out a few more droplets of water. Thankfully the day was nice and warm so she didn't feel any real chill in her bones from the swim. But the refreshing dip had made her mind sharp and her senses keen, she felt ready for just about anything that might be thrown at her. A good thing to, as she had a feeling this was going to be something of a unique bout for her to take on. She'd need to be extra careful around Erebus. If she took a wrong step or made the wrong judgement call, she might be out of the fight before it really even began. That would just be too embarrassing, and she really did hate embarrassing herself.

After a moment, she stood up to join Erebus on the river's edge. While he limbered up, she felt ready to go already. She'd never seen much point in a lot of stretching, it always made her feel more tense than anything else. Better to just get right into the thick of things.

"Let's make a go of it then," She said. "I'll give you a taste of what I've got. Might be a good chance to test out some new ideas like you said. But I don't hold anything back, just so we're clear. I'm ready whenever you are."

Erebus

Erebus and Vivi are considered to be ten meters from each other."Well I was going to stay on the defensive. But if you really want me to show you how ready I am." He laughed, brushing his locks up on one side. The look of a demon opposing an army flashed just briefly across his face. Spinning the dagger in a circle, he slid right into gear. His speed almost unmatched across Fiore. However, Erebus would go half his maximum speed. Towards Vivi's position, should she have not tried anything in that time.

He then hit the stop button with a short slide, switching up his entire next movement; the Rogue was a keen user of the surprise element, his foot kicked up an arc of sand with his mighty strength, sending a large wave ahead at Vivi; it was just enough to blind her field of vision for an instant.

He threw himself from his own position with quick back-flip followed from the kick. Using his hands to push off the ground acrobatically. If the sand would hit and throw her off even for a moment, he'd be ready to act upon that same moment with his body landing at the instant the sand would fall and reveal them to each other again.  His dagger would be aimed for her direction, and at about 5 meters distance. He could reach her before she could exhale a breath.

She hadn't considered that Erebus might be so aggressive. She had thought that he'd the offensive type, but that he'd immediately go for the throat, so to speak, was a bit of a shock. She wasn't prepared for his speed either. He was faster than she anticipated, and he closed the gap between them in the blink of an eye. She threw her hands up in a vain attempt to defend, but only ended up with a face full of sand rather than an armful of knife. She coughed and spluttered as she tried to clear up her vision. She lead a hasty retreat, trying to peel back a few meters in her blind haste to make some distance between them.

As she leapt back, Vivi pulled her left hand back and pinched her fingers. Even if she couldn't see, she could still try to ward off a follow up attack. She could feel the energy twisting between her fingers, and all she needed to do was to let it loose. As she landed on her feet, she opened her hand and made her shot. Arcane energy ripped out from her hand straight ahead, right towards where she had been standing before.

Wiping the sand from her face, Vivi finally managed to clear her vision, only in hopes of seeing what results her retreating tactic had produced, if any. She wasn't counting on that being the end of the battle, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Erebus

It seemed Erebus had shocked the girl's system with his feats, however, her lunging back was ample opportunity to lunge. Granted he could circle her and catch her around the side, he found it unnecessary. Instead Erebus was sure taking a few blows was better for the moral and esteem. In reality he shouldn't leave his attack pattern to chance. But he was just getting a feel in, besides, this was her training, Erebus would rather her take this and learn from it. He proceeded to drop his body onto the ground in sprawl state, as if to stalk her from the sand, due on the fact Vivi was not looking back with the best vision, he allowed the beam to travel above him by inches harmlessly. He raised his dagger and decided to cut the beam for no particular reason, slicing into the grey beam the force should have been enough to disarm a regular mage, but defeating Erebus would be leagues more difficult. What he was really doing was aiming a direct line at her, and from his sprawl he'd travel quite low from the ground.

Phantom Rush -200MP:

In the blink of an eye, he would be to her left side. From here, the rogue opted to spin on his hands, kicking up tsunami waves of sand again on her location with his S-rank strength. From the swift movement he lunged off the flooring with his hands, retreating again. Erebus was curious if she was learning the pattern. Dodging was sometimes better than defending. The Rogue class prided that as their oldest lesson. He wondered if she could incorporate it before he got serious.

He's even quicker. By the time Vivi is finished reacting to one of his moves, he's already onto the next and probably thinking about the one after that. His speed is tremendous, enabling him to run circles around her in both a literal and metaphorical sense. She's not even sure that with a lucky shot she could counter that. He could be on her before she even got a chance to respond. But, he was toying with her. Either he was actually trying to teach her a lesson about combat, or Erebus didn't think she was worth taking too seriously. Either way, she wasn't going to take either of those outcomes lying down. If his goal was to dodge, then there was a simple solution. She needed to make it so he couldn't dodge. The exact way to get to that solution wasn't entirely clear to her, but she'd figure that part out as she went along.

Brushing the sand from her face again, she looked around for Erebus. She needed to get him in her range, otherwise she wouldn't be able to send a hit at him that he couldn't dodge. One opening was all she needed to make the most of, but getting that opening might mean she would need to sacrifice safety for a certain hit. She would gladly do so if it meant taking a small victory in an otherwise unwinnable situation for herself. Better that than abject failure.

Erebus

Erebus allowed her just a second for herself to think, with the pause being left to conditions of her own accord, had she not casted a spell, Erebus would rocket forward in the middle of these thoughts, purple after-images tracing behind his figure, he slid-well up to his target in in under a blink's time. Because of his speed, Erebus would be on her within that short instance of time, of course, he was trying to avoid ending this fight as quickly as possible, so she could learn what she would like from it. But it was time she really see their difference in power, otherwise she would never have a clear image in her head about where to go higher then, than the mountain before her. This attack, would be his first real offensive, and his aggression was proof that he was a stand-alone army.

Erebus would take this opportunity to fall into his slide, running Phantom Dance against the side of her leg, then he'd roll right out of her range of point-blank, launching off his feet in retreat. The motion would be so fluid, that it would have seemed the cut itself had never happened, all of this done in same sweeping motion following each step closely, with his dagger having traced her skin so suddenly; she would not feet his mighty sting until the second after, upon which he would already be at the minimum a few feet behind her location now, (had it landed of course). In the case that it did land though, the deep gash on her leg would hinder escape past this point. It was the time for her to make her moves before Vivi was disbarred and left without too many ways out of his unavoidable reach.

"Son of an ice troll!" Vivi spits. She clutches her leg, the cut already taking a toll. It hurts like she could barely believe, leaving her quite a bit bereft of one of her good limbs. And it was a shame too, she rather liked that leg. Staggering back a few feet, Vivi falls down onto her butt, squeezing tight around the wound to stop it from bleeding. She hadn't expected Erebus to suddenly turn so vicious, but she supposed that was something she really ought to have given more thought to. He was leagues above her in every sense. Speed, power, ability, he left her behind in every single category that mattered. She'd been foolish to think she could lock him down with her meager strength. But, she would have to be even more foolish to give up her fight before she was well and truly finished. She still had a trick up her sleeve, and she intended to use it before she was finished.

She dropped flat onto her back so she could see Erebus behind her. Raising her right hand from her leg, she lashed it out to her side before raising it up and pointing straight at Erebus. It may very well be a shot made in vain, but she'd take it even if it meant she'd miss. She drew her hand in close then unleashed her attack. A sparking ball of energy hurling right towards her opponent's feet. No matter if it hit him or not, she'd make sure the explosion went off as soon as it hit the ground. Maybe at the very least she'd be able to catch him off guard with the sudden change in tactics and get in a bit of damage of her own. Or maybe not.

Erebus

Erebus who had rolled instead of taking caution to lunge felt the full effects of the spell collide against him. Sending his figure rolling through the sand. To have landed this shot, he was impressed, noting her tactic to act in the counter he she had locked him in. A sacrifice while vain now, could one day be the very strategy she used to smite him. The impact having tattered a bit of his clothes, Erebus coughed, pushing off the ground to end the roll on his feet. A perk granted to him by his class, the nimble acrobat was always sure to reach his reactive position quickly.

"That was good! What do you call that one?" He asked with a smile... He could feel it now. That same growing sweat, the fortune of training, was always the advancement in one's skill, the body was reactivating their efforts with succession. He commended her pride, her stalwart and redemptive efforts. She had endured a mighty lick to her leg, in exchange for that opening. He would patch for her up later, but how fast could she get up compared to him? With this information riding the air, he awaited the opportunity to take off in her direction. The instant she would find herself busy, Erebus would find her slipping; like a predator moving onto prey.
