Raquel could understand why everyone avoided this particular request. It was, for one, not for the faint of heart, and two, not what any person that’s conscious of their health would selflessly devote their time to. Especially since the risk of getting an unknown illness was high. Yet, when she found this last piece of paper stuck to the request board, pinned to a conspicuous spot, she took it without much of a thought, not even bothering to address the surprised look on many of the faces that crowded around the place more or less for the same reason Raquel did.

The sight in front of her as she reached her destination – she would be lying if she said she didn’t have a slight bit of regret- caused her to instantly frown with a look of obvious displeasure that some of the priests nearby gave her certain disapproving glances of their own. However, no one actually bothered to call her upon it most likely because the situation was so dire that they could ask just about anyone for help. They didn’t have the energy or will to drive away someone who got there to help. And it was probably because none of the priests wanted to bother with her that father Jared approached her instead. With the gently curve of her eyes and the light smile upon his lips, he immediately filled Raquel in on what he wanted her to do; give out the medicine to all that are sick.

At first she did not know how exactly to go about doing that. In fact, most of the sick people she approached seemed absolutely frightened by the air of superiority surrounding her. Instances like these had stopped surprising Raquel quite a long time ago. Ever since she woke up in that forest and was told she had become a vampire, things like this happened far too frequently. So now she had been experimenting with the various degrees of approach she could try on people and for the most part, only one thing worked. Fear.

When people feared her, they naturally gave way to what she wanted. Although the remnants of a moral compass told her that was a wrong kind of approach, Raquel was much simpler than that and simply went with it since it reduced her time and effort by half. It took her no longer than a second to fix the half fleeing men to their spot and give them the medicine. Soon, she was starting to get the hang of it and completed the mission with much ease, especially since the people now seemed to get used to her presence. Once the whole thing was over, or at least she was done with the number of people assigned to her, Raquel was free to leave after collecting her reward from father Jared. He seemed happier to talk to her this time in comparison to the beginning which quickly gave away that she had done a much better job than what they expected of her. Nevertheless, the day was over and although she wouldn’t say it to their faces, she was glad she could now get away from there.
