The dull sky loomed over her as she laid there, staring upon the tints of grey that showed signs of an upcoming rainstorm but never actually befell any rain. It was always like that in the town of Dahlia where the gloomy skies resonated with the equally downtrodden citizens that lived there. Now, she too was someone who was in a position to call that city her home. She raised her hand, holding it against the sky as her pale complexion contradicted the background. It was odd when she thought about it. She didn't recall how many months had passed since the strange incidents that attempted to weaken her body. Often times, she found herself rolled over in pain and coughing blood from the inner turmoil that her body was going through, for reasons unknown to her. However, by the time she had figured out what was happening, it was far too late to do anything. The magic she had learnt from the man back in Bellum was now useless to her for the water which coursed through her veins was now poisonous. It was a change in her magical abilities. While that wasn't a completely uncommon occurrence, given the fact that it had already happened to her before, she couldn't help but wonder why.

However, after racking her brain for what felt like hours, she came to the conclusion that her best course of action within that moment was to adapt. After all, that was something she was good at. Clutching her open palm which hung in the air, she was determined to gain control of their weird ability that had taken over her body. If push came to shove, she should be well versed in handling it. Heaving a sigh, she pushed herself into a sitting position as she ran her hand through her hair. With a determined urge, she stood up and dusted her hands, readying herself for one hell of an experiment.

She took a deep breath, attempting to take in as much oxygen as possible to rejuvenate herself for the following chain of events, which were still unknown to her. All she knew was that the day could either go well as she adapts herself to this strange power that manifested in her body, or it could end in a complete disaster. "Oh fuck it, let's just get this show started."

She stood in the scarce forest that had long been abandoned towards the outskirts of the city, facing an old tree whose leaves withered away with time. The gentle breeze wafted through the air, caressing her loose locks that she had cut off a while ago. It still felt unnatural, like much of her life but she was there and she was willing to embrace the changes that the past year had brought. She shut her eyes, focusing on her other senses which heightened amidst the darkness.

The Bellan could feel the magic coursing through her veins the more she dwelled upon it. She recalled the moments her body acted up, giving into the disastrous nature of the magic as she suppressed it. This time however, she chose not to do so. Instead, as the mana flowed through her body, she could feel bits of the poison lacing them as they left behind a trail of burning sensation. Regardless of the lack of severity of pain, she endured it which earned a frown upon her face.

She then decided to channel the mana into her hands. Raising her arms which hung on the side of her body, she held them in front of her with her eyes still locked shut. Her knitted eyebrows tightened as she felt the mana rush down her arms and into her hands. She could feel the energy around her and hence, she slowly opened her eyes.

What she saw before her definitely left her surprised. In her hands, she could see the magical energy within her body manifest into a more physical form as streaks of purple lurked over. The Bellan quickly realized she was on the right path and kept her eyes open as she directed more attention and focus towards her arm, attempting to channel all her energy into it. The streaks of purple that she witnesses quickly became more defined as she managed to form them into a concrete shape. The morphed into a spherical shape, creating a ball that lurked over her hand.

Raising her hand, she faced her palm towards the lifeless yet thick tree that stood approximately fifteen meters away from her current position. As she aimed for the tree, she focused the magical energy on her palm and  directed it towards the tree. The orb held it's shape and launched forward at the speed of twenty meters per second and created a small blast upon hitting the tree, which displayed a small magic circle underneath it. Shocked by the unexpected happenings, she moved further to inspect the tree only to find the tree bark deteriorating as if touched by acid. It was indeed the work of poison and alas, it wasn't very efficient to attempt to do it on a plant. She needed another place to practice. As she frowned, wondering the effects it would have on individuals, she had a quick idea.

Aldenwald was a place of many wonders. It was the home to the notorious lycans that had spread fear and terror among the citizens. She had previously visited the area to deal with some of those creatures along with her guild mistress but had proved to be idle both times. Perhaps, what she really needed was the training to handle them alone. After all, if she could handle those dogs, she was sure she could handle other people.

It hadn't taken long to arrive at Aldenwald and as she sauntered through the dense woods. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness, taking in as much as she could, at least to the extent to which the human eye could do so. She walked and walked, for what felt like hours in that dark forest, while only minutes had passed. Perhaps it felt so because of the density of lifelessness which lingered in the vicinity. Shrugging her arms, she decided to walk as far as it took for the lycans to reveal themselves.

Alas, the creatures ventured out once they had realized she had walked far enough. Perhaps they thought of her as their next meal, one of the many citizens that they wished to devour but they would be wrong. A grin crawled onto her face once she felt eyes staring at her. In the darkness, she could see their silhouettes moving around and about. If she had to count, she realized that there were about two of these creature lurking around. They growled in an attempt to frighten her but she didn't budge. Rather, she straightened her posture as her grin turned into a smirk which clearly mocked them. What she had realized till now was the fact that they had excelled night vision and could hence, see her clearly.

Without wasting a moment, she made use of the element of surprise as she glanced at the lycan in front of her and the one behind her. Raising her palm, she aimed it towards the one that stood in front of her, approximately eight to ten meters away. This time, she was able to summon the magical energy around her hand a lot faster as she had done so before.

"Vigor"

The orb, similar and yet, more concentrated, than the one she formed before launched out of her hand. It was aimed towards the lycan who tried to move out of the way but the more she concentrated, the more she realized her spells followed the trajectory she initially wanted them to and hence, the attack hit the lycan as it crumbled onto the floor.

The noise that followed her attack echoed through the tranquil forest in the form of a cry of misery and scream. She realized that that alone was probably enough for the lycan to stay down. Before she had the chance to process what had happened and the fact that the cry was actually a calling for backup, the creature that stood behind her raced towards her. She could hear the leaves rustling under it's footsteps as it bolted towards her, stretching out it's long and sharp claws in an attempt to injure her. She moved to the side, kicking off on her feet and turned as she did so, nearly missing the hairy claw that attempted to slash her. The hand moved ahead next to her as the she landed her collided her other foot against the ground, stabilizing her own posture before grabbing the claw that came her arm. Her hand wrapped around it's wrist as she pulled the creature while pivoting on her foot, using all her strength to pull it and then immediately, she released. This sent the lycan flying into the nearest tree, resulting in an immediately unconscious creature sliding down the bark.

However, it was far too late as she could already hear the rustling of steps that followed suit. She could tell that back up for the creatures she had just attacked was on their way. Alas, she finally had new test subjects to experiment on. She stood there, leaning against the tree as she wondered of the different multitude of ways in which she could utilize her new found powers. The stench from the nasty and hairy creatures lingered in the air, wafting through the forest and eventually, it reached her. It caused her to frown as she subconsciously initiated breathing through her mouth instead.

That had immediately given her an idea. While she was still not completely aware of the nature of her new profound abilities, there was something that she knew. She knew it had something to do with poison and that was what she needed to play by. So far, she had realized she could transform her magical energy into a tangible form. However, she wondered if she could do the same if it were not something that could be formed. She attempted blowing out air from her mouth, pushing her lips into a pout as she expelled the air. So far, she saw nothing. However, what better way to try doing so than to test it out in real time.

As if on cue, the lycans came rushing out of the woods. As their crimson eyes landed upon their fallen comrades, they turned hostile, looking at the female with gazes filled with rage. There were three of them and she wondered if there was a way she could hurt them all at once. Granted, suing one attack to hurt them all would cause lesser damage than she could have hoped for but what she truly wanted to do was test out the extent of her powers. These lycans were really not much of a threat to her, given that as a human, she was superior to them in terms of physical strength which came as quite a shocker. Then again, she had always been someone who trained her body as her core form of combat had been physical and in close range. Now, it was time to test how effective it was at a further range as well. As the lycans bolted towards, from an estimated distance of at least ten meters, she channeled her magical energy towards her lips and expelled air. "Mist"

EXIT

It appeared as if her idea had worked. Among the darkness, she could see tints of purple being expelled from her lips in the form of a poisonous gas. However, the mist that she had just expelled did her no harm. She watched as it released from her lips, spreading out into an estimated dimension of one meter as it dispersed forward, towards the lycans that were coming at her. It took mere seconds for the hairy creatures to be shrouded in smoke that she had just released. The first one who stood in front, raging forward with the attack inhaled the smoke she had just sent. As it breathed the mist in, it sent it to a series of erratic coughs and breathlessness, resulting in a solid cry before it collapsed onto the ground.

Not containing the poisonous gas that emitted from her lips, she continued releasing while standing there as the gas soon dispersed to the other two hairy creatures that had quickly learnt from the mistake of their brethren and stopped their breath. They used their furry arms to cover their noses in order to avoid inhaling the mist that lingered in the air and she thought that it might perhaps work. Perhaps, the secret to the breaking the spell was to simply avoid breathing it in. However, much to her surprise, and the dismay of the lycans, the gas absorbed into their hairy bodies, allowing them to give the same reaction that their fallen brother had given. They broke out into a series of coughs and collapsed on the ground, taking in the air through their nose as they did so. It appeared that the gas had done them some damage and she realized that it's effects were not stopped by the limit of them breathing it in. It seemed that there was still far too much that she had to explore.
