The salty air of the port city of Hargeon was a welcome change of pace. Kenzo quite enjoyed the beach and the smell of the sea. There was something about it that calmed the blue haired swordsman. He wasn’t sure what it was, but it somehow brought him back to the nights he spent in the coasts of Bellum with his family. The capital of the country was far from the coast, but his father would constantly take him and his mother camping to the beach. The feeling of humid air and salty smell was all to well recognized by the man. For that reason, he was glad to have made it to Fiore’s biggest port. However, he was not there to amuse himself. Rather, there was a task that he needed to complete. His journey through the country had now taken him to this stop. Kenzo was as far as one could be from Oak, but the Advent World guild member knew that the objectives of the guild he belonged to would one day reach even that place. As such, they needed to gather information on every place they could. That was what the merc was doing there that day.

Luckily, all his questing through the country had payed well. Little by little, Kenzo was starting to get more popular in the country. With it, the opportunities for work increased as well. This time, it came directly from another noble. Apparently, the local lord had heard of Kenzo’s exploits in Orchidia City when he helped the Muramasa royals with a matter they needed to settle. Thanks to the good impression the young male left on them, they recommended him with Reign Valystasia during a noble meeting they had held a couple of days prior. Soon after, a letter addressed to the mercenary arrived with a job proposal. This would be a great opportunity to expand his influences and gather more intel that came firsthand. There was no way he was wasting an opportunity to get close to the lord of Port Hargeon, the most important commercial hub in the country.

”Excuse mee~ Coming through.. Whoops, sorry Miss. Let me pass over here~” The voice of the mercenary was drowned inside the cheers, laughter and joy of a celebrating crowd. Apparently Kenzo had come just at the right time. It was the anniversary of the previous lord’s birthday. He had passed away a couple of years prior, but from the looks of it, the guy was quite charismatic and popular with the townsfolk. Hundreds of people lined the streets as food stalls, vendors and performers littered the port’s city square. Kenzo made his way through the multitude into the man at the heart of it. A young blond-haired man, not much older than the mercenary was standing within an entourage of people listening to him and taking orders as he dictated them. Finally making his way to him, Kenzo greeted him with a smile and waving his hand. ”Mr. Valystasia. Nice to meet you. My name is Kenzo Valens.” As if taken away from their tasks, the people surrounding the young lord all turned in unison to look at the owner of the greeting. ”Ah, Yes! Kenzo. Welcome to Hargeon. I’m glad you could make it in time!” Reign greeted the blue haired swordsman with a hug and pat on the back. Kenzo could notice he was quite charismatic as well, and judging from the looks of the people that surrounded him, he was beloved like his father too. ”Would you excuse us gentlemen? We shall continue with the preparations in a second” Reign spoke to his entourage as he guided Kenzo away from the crowd. ”They say you have a job for me?” The warrior was quite straightforward. ”Haha! Your reputation precedes you. The Muramasa’s were right on point. Quite the man of action right?” A chuckle left the lord’s lips. Kenzo simply smiled with a shrug. Perhaps he had been to impatient?

”Very well… Let me tell you what it’s all about.” Reign changed tones as he became serious and took out a set of leather parchments that seemed like blueprints. ”We’re currently celebrating the anniversary of the past lord’s birthday. My father was a navy commander in his younger days. One could say he loved the sea as much as he loved Hargeon. So, in order to honor him, the city has decided to construct a large warship. This will become the flagship of Hargeon’s fleet, so it is not a job that could be entrusted to just anyone.” Reign winked at Kenzo as he replied with a soft chuckle. ”Either way, your job is quite simple. Take this blueprint and go find old man Mywand Olden. He is a cheerful fella that sells any kind of weapons and armors that one might need. He was been stocking up for this construction, so all of the necessary materials are inside his warehouses. Please show him this letter and start on the ship’s construction as soon as possible. We would like it to be done by Sunday, when the ceremony of the celebration will be held. I suppose it shan’t be a problem for someone like you, right?”

”Damn bastard. He’s quite the clever dude huh? No wonder his political career is on the rise.” Kenzo thought to himself after hearing the short timespan he was given. Far from annoying him, he couldn’t help but smirk. He was an interesting fella. He knew how to goad people into doing the things that he wanted them to. In this case, he had managed to tick Kenzo’s boxes. His words sounded like a challenge to the mercenary. There was no way he was going to be defeated. ”Consider it done. I just hope your surprise will be able to match the reward of course.” Kenzo placed both hands on his hip as he laughed after his reply. ”Haha, don’t worry. A noble’s pockets are large and generous after all…” With those words, Kenzo bid farewell to Reign and made his way to the warehouse of Mywand Olden.

As the young noble had said, the work was pretty straightforward. However, it was one of the most physically strenuous he had taken thus far. They were building a friggin warship for gods sake. Kenzo was no expert shipbuilder, but the lord had made sure to provide with the best workers and builders in the country. Kenzo’s job however, was purely physical. After meeting the merchant in the designated place, the mercenary had to load and drive all the way to the drydocks all of the materials needed for the flagship’s construction. It was a tiring first day. His muscles throbbed and were sore as he woke up the next morning. However, he had no time to lose. Taking a light breakfast, Kenzo made his way to the docks before the rise of the sun. The place was completely lively as he entered. It was obvious these guys were complete pros.

Spending the next day working non-stop, the construction of the ship went smoothly. If anyone looked from afar the progress at which they were advancing, it would have been fair for them to say that they must have been using magic to achieve it. However, in recognition to the lack of magic from the previous lord, the construction crew had direct instructions not to use it in the least as a way to remember him. This was inconsequential to Kenzo. It had been decades since he last used magic, so he was not hindered by the fact. After what seemed endless hours of work, the ship was completed.

The day of the ceremony, the test of the construction quality went without a hitch. Reign was completely satisfied and generously reward the mercenary. His word was true. After taking a look inside the bag of jewels, Kenzo noticed that he had indeed been quite generous.
