Personality

Personality: Jiao-long is a perfect example of what some people would call a "grey" personality. It is almost impossible to pin him down as fully good, or fully bad. He is capable of both, and the main determining factor on which he decides to act on is his religion.

Generally speaking, he is an extremely down to earth, mellow man. He takes joy in the smaller things in life, such as a calm summer breeze, the sounds of nature when he is alone at night, or even the taste of his tea which he brews for himself every night. He is soft spoken, and well mannered. This being said, due to his lifestyle of an opium addict, he can be prone to impulsive, however extremely calculated and well executed, decisions. The slightest occurrence can cause Jiao-long to act impulsively, however never recklessly. His mind is easily made up, and when this happens he always executes to the maximum efficiency.

Due to his undying faith in the Sinese religion, he is not fearful at all, in fact he relishes the day which he is able to join the spirits which he has devoted his life to. Jiao-long always keeps his cards close to his chest, never disclosing the true motive or feelings behind the plain and stoic face which he is always wearing.

To those who know Jiao-long on an extremely personal level, and there are very few, they would know him as the well mannered, kind natured, and tepid tempered man. He always strives to do what he believes in morally right, however firmly believes that the ends always justify the means. He believes that the spirits around us speak to him (mostly while under the influence of opium), and whatever they command or desire is to be done immediately, with no hesitation.

Jiao-long believes that all life is sacred, and seeks to preserve it when possible. However, the Sinese religion states that life is but a cycle, and those who have perished in the earthly realm simply move on to the spirit world. Because of this, despite his love for all living things, Jiao-long has no problem ending a life in cold blood, especially at the command of the spirits.

Likes:

  • Opium: At a relatively young age, Jiao-long discovered smoking opium, and how doing so would allow him to contact what he believes are the spirits of his religion. Because of this he has developed somewhat of a dependence on the drug

  • Nature: Jiao-long decided to abandon his life of nobility and power to live a simpler life among nature. He feels a deep connection with the planet and all living things which reside on it.

Dislikes:

  • His Parents: Jiao-long holds a certain level of resentment towards his parents for birthing him into a life of nobility which he never asked for, and trying to force him to become a person that his every instinct rejected.
  • Attachment: The spirits in his visions told Jiao-long that attachment to earthly objects and desires is deplorable. Jiao-long has abandoned such things, and seeks to “help” other people by showing them how wrong earthly attachment is.

Motivations:

  • Subterfuge: Knowledge is power, Jiao-long is always looking to expand his vast amount of knowledge on those around him, or anything else worth knowing. He goes about obtaining this knowledge cold bloodedly, doing whatever it may take.

Fears:

  • Destiny: At an early age it was pounded into Jiao-longs head that he had the destiny to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors, that one day he would be a great politician or a soldier. He has tried his whole life to run away from this but deep down he still fears that his “destiny” will catch up with him.

  • Void: As an extreme zealot of his religion, of course his greatest fear would be that the spirits he worships would abandon him and leave his life meaningless. Jiao-long does everything he can to make sure this doesn't happen. Mostly smoking copious amounts of opium

History

History: Jiao-long was born into a very privileged life in the country of Sin. The 10th child of 15 in one of the richest and most powerful families in the country, he had everything that he could have ever wanted growing up. He was privately educated by some of the finest tutors in the country in almost every desirable field. From an early age Jiao-long was trained in the arts of war, art, literature, language, and everything else that was deemed necessary for the young noble to learn. He enjoyed his education, but felt that he was learning it for the wrong reasons. Instead of learning to improve himself, he was learning to be who his parents told him he should be.

As one of the younger children of the family, Jiao-long had difficulty getting along with his siblings and parents, constantly being disregarded as a young child whose opinion was meaningless. This lead him to somewhat resent the rest of his family, only really forging a strong bond with a few of his siblings, most notably his non-identical twin brother, Jian.

Around the age of 15, Jiao-long had run away from home after a severe argument with his parents regarding his future. He put on the most plain clothes that he could find and set off into one of the shadier parts of town in an act of rebellion. He didn't want to be a noble like his family had decided him to be, he had become very disillusioned with the idea of one family or person being more "important" to society than any other person. On this venture into town, he met a shady man in a dark alley who offered Jiao-long a hit from his "dream pipe". This proved to be one of the defining moments of his life. Under the influence of the opium, Jiao-long had a vision where he spoke to what he believed were the spirits of his sinese religion. After this, his faith in his religion was unbreakable. He would frequently sneak out of his fancy lodgings to head to local opium dens where he would have frequent spiritual experiences, further leading to his disillusion with his family.

After a few years, the military draft came around and Jiao-long, as well as many of his siblings’ aid was requested, and he was given almost no choice to refuse. He was further trained in the art of warfare, the aspect of subterfuge called to him especially. Jiao-long was trained to be a behind-the-lines commando, utilized to gather intelligence, eliminate key targets, and take valuable prisoners. However one night after another opium induced vision, the spirits told Jiao-long that he had a different calling, and that he wasn't meant to be a commando, and that they would further reveal to him his true purpose over time.

After what he believed was his major revelation, Jiao-long abandoned his post, and currently lives in an unnamed, remote desert in a secluded location in Fiore, choosing to take refuge in caves and live off of the land. He still utilizes his mastery of the arts of subterfuge when needed, and patiently awaits the day that the spirits tell him his true purpose to fulfill.

Hi there, I'm Alice~
Here to help you to get your character approved!

  • Please add your date of birth as well; Please write as Month/Date/Year.

  • Next in your history you mention a war in Fiore, please remove that as well. Considering the history and plot/lore of the country that we have as a site, there wasn't a war like that.
