Can't Catch a Break (401+700=1,101 WC)

From Brone Heavyaxe has heard from scouts, the new potential member to the guild, Cailyn, was quick on her feet, some say 'super human'. The report had said she had outrun her own squad and made it to Orchidia before anyone; such an impressive feat, and with the talent she has shown during the previous encounter, the dwarf didn't see it as far fetched if Cailyn managed to clear the area of the giants by the time the rest of the troops arrived...

That is if Brone didn't learn from his past mistakes and didn't catch a ride on passerby with a wagon and horses... but he did. The dwarf had taken along only a handful of men, given the wagon couldn't service the rest of the troops who had to make their way on foot, the rider was considerate enough to give them a lift at his best speed.

"My thanks" The dwarf said as he leaned into the rider while keeping his eyes forward, ready to jump out of the wagon when need be.

"Please take my thanks, your guild has helped us enough and yet you still offer your services, please rid the north of these monsters" the rider sounded just as scared as he was thankful, but even in fear, he was willing to make this dangerous delivery of soldiers.

"Ye have our word, good sir" Brone patted the man on the back as the wagon moved as fast as possible. Every so often the road would get bumpy, but the troops and Brone handled it without care, their focus was to get to the city as fast as possible to make sure they did better then the day prior. The faster they got there, the more lives they saved.

Eventually they reached the outskirts where massive trees were the dominate living things within the area. For but a moment, the view of the city's walls came into sight, but not long after did they see their first titan and the troops reacted by readying themselves to jump out the wagon. Brone directed the rider to get just close enough so they can disembark. The moment the titan turned and spotted them, the rider pulled to a stop and the troops including Brone hopped out. The titan reached down to try and grab the interesting-looking wagon, but one of Brone's axes was quickly drawn and sliced off the reaching hand. The rider managed to get his horses to turn about and off he went, wishing the guild luck as they struck the titan's legs, bringing it down before Brone delivered a swift blow to the neck. The information about the neck's weakness circled the guild, an advantage for them, and hopefully the city's saving grace.

Brone and his troops ran pass the fallen body of the dead titan they had just defeated. Eventually, they've reached the wall and entered the city through the security entry door, luckily too small for any of the titans to get into, however it seemed some titans still managed to find their way in and this would be informed to Brone and his troops the moment they were intercepted by a handful of Cailyn's personnel.

"Ah, that young firecracker with the melodic voice; I see her fierceness in battle reflects in her speed, she has bested me there" the dwarf chuckled.

"We'll be going to our posts, sir" the young messenger said before saluting and making her way back to the archers.

"Alright, lads and lasses!" Brone turned to his own group with his axes still in hand, "Cailyn and her troops had already been here long before us! It's our job to back her up and make up for lateness, now go forward and strike at the ankles of the titans they're blinding, bring'em down and strike them dead!" As he finished his order, his troops shouted their warcries before rushing off into the battlefield.

The archers had taken high positions, so the ground troops used the directions of their arrows to determine where to rush towards. As for Brone, he spotted a fallen titan and scanned the area; he then spotted a figure speeding towards the next titan, clearly this abnormal speed was that of Cailyn. Another titan was beside the one the young lady was heading for, so the dwarf decided to assist her as she had done for him when they first met.

She had managed on her own quite well by the time Brone had arrived. He shouted his warcry to grab the attention of the second titan, drawing it away from Cailyn. Then the dwarf slammed his first axe onto the ankle, forcing the titan onto one knee. The titan reached down to try and grab the dwarf, but Brone sliced off half it's hand to prevent it from closing into a fist. "Keep those grubby hands to yerself!" he shouted before he moved to the next leg. The titan tried to grab at him with it's other hand, but two arrows coming from Cailyn's archers blinded the giant, halting it's progression and ultimately the dwarf managed to close the gap to the other leg and slice off the foot, forcing the titan to come tumbling down before it's neck was then struck.

Brone would stand atop the monster with his axes in the air, raising the moral of his troops, encouraging them forward to help their brothers and sisters in combat.
