The sun was setting over the horizon. The evening was quieting the streets, but Brone worried not, nor did he worry for the darkening streets, though the lacrima lamps flared to life to provide light. As the dwarf moved through the streets, his ringmail armor rattled like a heavy bag of coins.

He had taken up his first quest since he had landed in Magnolia, something simple, something he could do. Barras Berend, the blacksmith of the city, asked of the dwarf recently to pick up the ore he had ordered from a new supplier he met. Brone happily accepted, but the blacksmith leaned in to warn the dwarf that the price the supplier promised for the valuable ore seemed a little too real to be true, and asked to be on his toes.

Brone kept that in mind as he walked through the streets, but instead of worry, or concern, he walked with his chest out, determined to handle this business, confident in his strength. Eventually, the dwarf found himself in a more grassy area at the edge of the city, away from the primary residential areas. He stopped for a moment to take in his surrounding, given that he was new to the area, but it wouldn't be long before he was close to the meetup spot.

The outskirts of the city were seem to be more of a poorer residential area, given how worn the buildings look, little to no pavement, just grass and dirt, and almost no lantern lacrimas about to provide light. Though the lack of light didn't bother the dwarf, since his eyes can pierce the veil of darkness. It was quiet about, save for his ringmail jingling and his heavy footfall upon the dirt ground. Soon enough, Brone found the meetup spot within the alley between two wide buildings that may have been factories or warehouses. A single lacrima lantern lit the end of the alleyway where a single man stood leaning against the wall.

Because of Brone's noisy entrance, the leaning man wasn't surprised to see him, "G'evening" the dwarf simply said as he marched down the alleyway to where the circle of light was, "I've been sent by Barras the blacksmith" Brone crossed his arms, though he kept a small smile to lessen any form of intimidation. The dwarf then noticed around the corner of the end of the warehouse, just behind the shady looking merchant, was another younger looking man coming off of a wagon.

"Barras or not, doesn't matter to me, so long as the payment is made" the shady merchant shrugged, "You got the money?"

"Yeah" Brone said as he pulled a pouch off his belt, showing it to the merchant, "Guessing the ore is in the wagon?" Brone joked, however, instead of the merchant going to retrieve the ore, the man pulled out a short sword and pointed it at the dwarf.

"Drop the bag, and you can walk away with your life" the shady merchant said with a wicked smile. The younger man behind him slowly walked up, staring at the dwarf while patting his own longsword that rested at his waist.

Brone raised an eyebrow as he looked from the shady merchant holding the shortsword to the younger man who was trying to be intimidating by showing off his sheathed long sword. The dwarf replied by spitting at the foot of the merchant, "Trust my words when I say 'Ye two ain't getting a damn jewel'" he said as he slipped the pouch into the front of his pants where his crotch was. This had surprised the two foes.

Either way, the shady merchant decided to show that he wasn't bluffing, so he lunged forward, intending to finishing the dwarf quickly. At the same time, Brone reached for one of his battleaxes trying to bring the weapon over his head, though he was intending to land his hit before the merchant landed his, unfortunately the shortsword touched base first, the tip stopped by the ringmail armor, preventing the piercing weapon from reaching the heart. The merchant had a feel of how touch the armor was and intended to back up to gain distance, but before he could do so, the flat of the battleaxe came down, slamming against the top of the man's head.

The merchant was knocked out cold before he could taste the dirt of the floor. "That's one do-" before Brone could finish his sentence, the younger man had already drew his blade and had closed the distance between them. The dwarf began reaching for his other battleaxe, but the longsword had already swung, slicing through the ringmail armor across his chest.

The metal shattered and metallic rings fell everywhere, "Blast you!" Brone yelled as he brought his second axe down upon the younger man, however the young man was quicker than his employer and managed to dodge out of the way. The blade of the axe sank into the ground, emitting a loud thump sound.

The young man smirked, but the dwarf could see that a single bead of sweat was forming on the younger man's brow. The two of them stared at one another, waiting for the next move.

Brone had both his battleaxes in his hands. He glared at the younger man who held his sword, ready to attack or defend. "Your chest is exposed, and I know I'm quick enough to make the next strike true" the man said.

"...I don't see yer point" Brone grunted, his ringmail armor had fell away, and his shirt underneath had a wide cut, showing his bare chest, but the dwarf didn't shy away, he stood at the ready.

"If I hit a vital point, you may be dead before you can hit me" the young man tried another attempt to scaring the dwarf.

"I guess you better not miss than" Brone said as he began walking forward towards his foe. The young man took a step back, hesitant. He wondered if the dwarf was confident because he was sure of his victory, or just stupid. He shook the doubt from his mind, convincing himself the dwarf was simply an idiot, he wasn't going to turn tail without his money and certainly not because of a damn dwarf.

The moment the young man ran forward, the dwarf did the same, both of them swinging their blades.

Just as the younger man had stated, his sword hit first, slicing across the dwarf's chest, and cutting deep. He was about to dodge out of the way with a smirk on his face, but the dwarf wasn't thrown off by the attack, he only endured it so he could take the opening and the blunt side of the axe bit down upon the young man.

The young man was sent flying, hitting the wall of the warehouse, knocked out. The dwarf stood in silence, breathing heavily as the long wound across his chest bled. He sniffed when he felt his nose running, then made his way to the wagon.

Brone had inspected the wagon and it was indeed filled with ore. He figured he would take the wagon with him, so he threw the muggers into the wagon, then mounted the horse attached to the wagon. Then made his way to the nearest guard outpost to turn in the muggers. After a quick conversation and investigation, the guards revealed to the dwarf that the ore in the wagon were actually stolen. Not wanting the miners to suffer for losing their hard work, Brone gave up on the ore.

The guards thanked the dwarf for turning in the ore and the thieves; they offered full medical treatment, but Brone only accepted a quick bandaging to stop the bleeding. Afterwards, he made his way to the blacksmith's shop, albeit it was late in the evening, Barras was just heading home. He stated he had stayed behind only to make sure Brone was alright, he had suspected the deal would possibly be shady, which was why he hired the dwarf.

Brone apologized that the situation went south, so he pulled out the pouch of jewels he was given for the purchase from within his pants to hand to Barras. Barras, reeled back, seeing that the dwarf kept the pouch by his crotch and told the dwarf he could keep it as a reward for helping him. Brone thanked him greatly and made his way home, already enjoying his time in Magnolia.
