Ethnicity, Mother: Savannan

PHYSIQUE

Height: 4’07” (1.4 meters)

Overall: Thaddeus is short and stout. By default, his visage lends to a moody disposition and his brow generally draws a straight line across the bottom of his forehead. He is short, but sports a hefty weight. If one were to view his physique unobscured, they would see, perhaps a mild portion of belly, but a great amount of muscle. He is certainly wide to the sides. Tightly packed, dense, it is this that lends to the majority of his weight. Thaddeus generally possesses an aura that immediately suggests a world weariness, especially at first glance. It is hardly his age, but his body language and expression. He has fairly long hair, to which around its mid-point rests a band to bind it together into a pony-tail the rest of the way. His beard, brown in hue as well, is rather well-kempt, more fine than it is scruffy, and touts some relatively sparse, but stylish braiding.

PERSONALITY

Personality: When all is said and done, Thaddeus can be summarized as a stereotypical, grumpy dwarf. The heavy weight his eyebrows seem to possess lends to his overall uninviting disposition. Though he does seem standoffish, lacking that passive commonplace cordiality most have, he makes a very valid attempt to craft a suitable greeting to those seeking one. Thaddeus is more reclusive than outgoing, but wishes for both company and companionship like many others do; though, he would never admit to such. He is relatively secretive when it comes to himself and not entirely honest when it comes to himself either. He will dismiss any well-placed concern put on him with a dishonest, “I’m fine!” most of the time.

Both a gruff and hearty individual, he can be jovial when sufficiently blitzed or in the presence of those he respects, knows, and trusts. It is to no surprise that Thaddeus is not an overly trusting individual. His discerning, piercing gaze that often refuses to move away from those he’s engaged with suggests as much. This makes him selective, which makes for a deep bond to those selected. As difficult as it appears to be to get on his good side, it isn’t. It mostly requires the same amount of respect he opts to give those given the benefit of the doubt. He isn’t looking to be worshiped, but he isn’t looking to be the receiver of random, unfounded agressions either. Thaddeus’ long and tame temper grew short ever since that fateful day in his childhood. He would rather it not go out of control again.

Likes:

  • Alcohol: This is to nobody’s surprise. A stereotypical dwarf through and through and it does not end with a brew. Ale and beers are his favorite and he likes them strong. An ale lacking strength is an instant ticket to frustration and ranting.
  • Meat: Meats are so favored that they easily act as both a coping mechanism and a means of calming him down. Ale can do the same sort of thing, but meat or even better, these two things together, are a combination that brings an easy calm about him.

Dislikes:

  • Monsters: Well, one was responsible for making him into an orphan. His hate grew so sudden and so potent because of it that his magic power itself awakened in a fiery burst of untempered screaming. It is safe to say that he definitely dislikes them. While he seeks to kill the one responsible, he feels it will not be enough to stop at just one.
  • Vegetables: Thaddeus finds vegetables bitter and bland. To him, there is hardly a difference between them and teas, which he likes just about as much. There is hardly ever a kick to them and if there is some semblance of one, it is hardly ever worth it.

Motivations:

  • Revenge: What primarily motivates Thaddeus is revenge for the monster that slayed his parents. His parents failed to fell the monstrosity, but the job request was immediately taken down after their attempt. He is almost certain it is still out there and worst of all, there are many more where that came from. The hearts of men sway between evil and good all of the time and that’s fine. It isn’t a question of good and evil. What he finds appalling is the existence of the heartless creatures that roam the lands ostensibly unchecked.

Fears:

  • Illness: Despite his disposition and appearance, Thaddeus is a bit of a baby. Feeling sick makes him feel vulnerable and miserable all at the same time. He really does feel he is dying and there is no fight he can brave to change anything. Instead, it is an internal battle seemingly completely out of his control and to him that is frightening.
  • Gibbering Mouther: The monster responsible for his parents’ death was dubbed this. While it instils anger in him like no other, he caught a taste of its ability to induce a mind-paralyzing madness through chattering teeth and quick, nonsensical phrases devoid of meaning. It was both surreal and frightening, nightmarish and followed within his wake as he ran as fast as he could back to the safety of his town.

ATTRIBUTES

Strength: 8

Speed: 1

Constitution: 10

Endurance: 10

Intelligence: 1

MAGIC

Magic Name: Smithy

Magic Element: Fire

Magic Enhancement: Holder Magic (Weapon Type: Axe)

Magic Description: Smithy is a simple holder-type fire magic that uses an axe as a medium for its spells. There are very little complexities with the magic. Flames are able to be sliced into the ground with an axe to emerge elsewhere as well as sprout out of the weapon itself as propellant to assist the mage in delivering blows with it. It can also be used to encase the weapon in flames that mimic its shape, permitting for the potential to wield a large fiery axe with its medium acting as its base.

HISTORY

History: The ground itself shook beneath the young boy. His knees and palms dared not move for the attached limbs felt frozen in place despite the unpleasant sensations of abrasion he felt. Fear for him became a figurative encasing of unbending ice and why? A mass of flesh towered over him. An uneven handful of limbs propelled this mass forward over the grass-paved clearing towards the helpful boy. Mouths, open and teeth filled, speckled nigh every inch of the monstrosity and who desperately threw themselves directly into its way? His parents. With panicked fervor, each screamed their son’s name, Mars, directing him to run back into the town from whence he came.

This was Seven; a land governed by the gods themselves and roamed by varying kinds of hideous monstrosities. It was a place for the courageous, the strong, the adventurous. Somewhere tucked within one of its many towns was a man of lacking stature, Thomas, his dwarven father. He was husband to Vemma, a woman who shared in both his strength and sense of adventure, having met on the field during a job coincidentally. They had one child, a boy who they named Thaddeus and via being radiated with their shared excitement for their chosen careers, he developed the same sense of adventure they had for it. However, he appeared to lack the magical spark his guardians possessed. Each parent wielded magic that lent them a grandiose advantage for their chosen line of work. They hoped their son held something similar within him. Perhaps in time, if any gift had been bestowed upon him at all, that it would show itself. Their love for him did not diminish, of course, but the two of them were so hopeful that their child could experience the exciting world they did. To do that, they felt he required magic to some capacity or the creatures that roamed their lands would have no difficulty in tearing him asunder.

The most prominent moment of Thaddeus’ life was when the excitement of venturing outside of the family’s town became too great to resist procuring a taste. He had yet to experience any real danger and thus, the child had great difficulty exercising caution towards threats he knew nothing of. It was routine to keep an eye on their son, but when both parents were required to be absent for a job, somebody was always hired to keep an eye on Thaddeus while they were out. One time, there was just not a close enough eye kept on him. Thaddeus escaped with joyous giggles, grabbing a broken tree branch on the way to the town’s outskirts and crossed into the wilderness without a second thought. This is where he met a terrible, nightmarish monster and luckily for him, this monster was the very job his parents were to carry out - slaying it. As fate would have it, as Thaddeus was overcome with fear from witnessing something so frightful, they placed themselves between the monster and him. Yelling for him to run back home, which he managed to do just that, they returned their focus to the monster at hand.

It was more than a mass of flesh and mouths. It was more than brute strength. Both grasped their heads in anguish as the mouths chattered incomprehensibly, broken words of madness itself. Their planned ambush was no longer possible. Distraction in the form of their teary-eyed son doing his best to scamper back to the safety of the town was enough to lend the fleshy abomination the opportunity to rend their minds and soon after, their flesh. His parents did not make it back. His furious sitter traded his ire for panic upon his return. Surely, he was to be in an unfathomable amount of trouble for not having kept a close enough eye on their son, but they never did return. Instead, it was a knock at the door a good few hours later. The individual’s purpose was to inform Thaddeus that his parents would not be coming home; that they had been killed. Their purpose was to begin rearranging the just-made orphan’s life, but knew not what to do for the child was little more than a screaming mess of snot and tears - and flame.

Thaddeus’ magic awakened at the pinnacle of his rage-filled sorrows, which happened to be simply raw, crazed fire that swept over his immediate surroundings in an abrupt crimson roar. Not only did Thaddeus lose his parents that day, but due to his own magical, ire-soused outburst, he lost his home as well. From that day on, he changed. For a time, an orphanage cared for him. They heard that Thaddeus was a joyful child, but observed a dismissive child instead who did not shy away from crossly rejecting any form of company or companionship offered to him. It was how he entered it and how he left it. Afterwards, his life revolved around mining as many others of his race tended to do. He became self-sufficient, but not satisfied. It was around this time that he decided he had to kill that monster; but before that, he had to get out of and away from Seven. He could no longer stand it. His own actions made it a lonely and frustrating experience. Feeling a need to restart fresh in a new country, he ended up moving to Fiore. Regardless of if he was correct or not, he understood it to be a far tamer and more relaxing place than where he was at that point. He also heard there was a guild there. He sought to enlist with the intention of growing in power and skill so he could not only hunt that one monster, but all of them.
