Akira’s words had been resonating in Naomi’s head ever since that day. A part of the Neko’s anger had shifted that day. She understood that it was in a Demon’s nature to wreak havoc. It didn’t mean she had to stop fighting them. They were very much a threat and need to be banished from the realm, if not eradicated. But, she could no longer naively call a Demon’s actions unfair. They are Demons; they terrorize. It was as simple as that.

However, there was still one thing that she couldn’t understand. Why did some in Earthland help these Demons to pour into their realm from the Abyss? Her village was destroyed not because the Demons decided to target it specifically. It was destroyed because a human had deliberately summoned them there. This was betrayal and the root cause of the problem.

Naomi’s goals have morphed. She still wanted to fight demons. But above that, she wanted to rid the world of these betrayers who help the abyssal creatures. One such guild that was known to allow these things was Red Hades. The guild was shrouded in a plethora of rumours. Everyone knew its name, many acted like they knew what the guild was capable of and spun scary implausible stories when pressed for information, but none could give any reliable direction to where their hideout was.

After several weeks of investigation, under the guise that she was looking to join the guild herself, she had finally managed to find a lead. She was asked to wait at the far end of the train station at midnight, and that a member would put her through a test if she would fit the guild. And if she did, she would then be inducted into the guild. Naomi wasn’t sure what they were going to ask her to do and how much of it she could take. She hadn’t even informed Kyo about it; whom she knew would definitely want to follow her. She couldn’t risk putting him in danger. This was her choice—and she alone would face the consequences.

The night was balmier than usual, spring was already giving way to summer. He had a task yet again and as he strolled towards the end of the platform, the blonde hatched his plan. Yet another pesky suspicious creature sought to disturb the sanctity of the guild the Garrett had temporarily offered his allegiance to.

Despite enjoying the spoils of his little hunts, he was growing a little tired of the repetitive nature of the tasks. Given that he had opted to keep a low profile for the moment, he provided aid by breaking in new recruits and ensuring that they weren't trying to wheedle their way into the organization only to betray the people within.

The mist mingled with the smoke that billowed from the train behind him. The light from the train shone bright onto his apparent victim's face, his feature's would be a little difficult for her to discern with all that sudden brightness, at least for the time being. He watched her impassively before assuming an anxious expression. He hurried towards her, almost waddling, instead of walking, in a manner quite unlike Victor's usual. 'Did they call you here too?' his pitch accentuated the false note of anticipation in the tone.

The midnight train was there, shining its bright headlight on the ends of the two platforms. The rest of the platform was lit, but not as brightly as the ends, near one of which Naomi stood waiting. She had to put her hand over her eyes to block the excessive light. It took a while for her to adjust to the sudden illumination, and even after it did, she could barely see any details.

She was certain no one got off or boarded the train. The sound of the doors opening would have definitely reached her had it been the case. The train waited for a good long minute before he billowed and started moving away. And as it did, she saw the figure approach. Apart from the fact that it was a tall man and that he walked like an excited little child, she couldn’t make out anything else until he got much closer.

Naomi eyed him from head to toe when he spoke and gave him a forced smile. The way he asked the question, she presumed he was here to be vetted as well, which meant he was likely a criminal she needed to be wary about. “Yes… But they are late,” she said, not in a complaining way but stating it as a fact. Her gaze shifted to the large well-lit clock on the wall that had only recently rang twelve. It was two minutes past the designated time. Nothing out of the ordinary, yet.

He stuck his hands when she spoke, shrugging. His words rolled like a racing train, as he maintained the note of awkward nervousness. 'Barely, no? And... That's okay, that's okay, they have all the right to take all the time they need.' he said, chuckling as he shuffled. He was gauging her ability to pick up on his mannerisms, to see if she possessed that insight and then the instinct to take advantage of it.

Such skills were essential and the natural urge to act on them, a valuable trait in case she was cleared. It was rare for suspects to be taken in though. Once marked as potential targets, one had to do a lot to be considered as a potential recruit again. He cocked his head and watched her, with a sort of an over-friendly gaze.

He certainly wasn't exuding the usual confidence a Hades member should possess. He wondered how she'd fare if he added another layer to the test. His eyes darkened, and his head hung lower. 'I-I was told they'll only be taking one in though... Does that make you my competition?' he went, adding a quick stutter to drive his alleged weakness home. It was a good way to test how far she'd go to make it into the folds of the organization. The loosely assembled guild was no place for anyone who wasn't ruthless and savage when it came down to it.

Naomi immediate reaction was a frown when the supposed fellow interviewee said they had the right to take their time. Perhaps they were already here, observing them from within the darkness to see how they behave in their lonesome. When that thought crossed her mind, her frown vanished and she acted cool, mimicking his shrug. “Yeah. Barely,” she added to come across as if she wasn’t fazed by their tardiness.

The man seemed very nervous. She had no idea it was all an act. The neko wondered if he was having second thoughts about this. If he was, she wondered if she could convince him to not do this. Just as she was pondering how to pull that one off without coming across as if she was directly advocating against joining the dark guild, he mentioned of only one being accepted between the two of them. Now, she had even more reason to get rid of this one from the scene, if what he said was true.

Naomi had to come up with something to make this man leave before the Hades members arrive, and she needed to do it the ‘right’ way, in case they were being watched. The neko had an idea. She figured this should be easy, considering how nervous the blonde man was. “Competition?” she spat with a chuckle. “Hardly,” she added, looking at him from head to toe like he was filth. It was mean, but not difficult. After all, he was here to join a dark guild.

The way he was, Naomi was sure she could intimidate him further—just enough to make him run. “I hope they make us fight. I sharpened my claws just this evening,” she said, taking a step towards him. “Why don’t you just run now and save yourself from all that pain? Red Hades has no room for weak knees,” the neko urged in a low tone.

He noticed the slight changes in her mannerisms and was curious about the trigger. Had she figured out that it was all a rouse? At least she did notice the alleged power vacuum in the interaction and sought to fill it. Just as Victor acted meeker, her demeanor grew bolder. Upon him throwing the bait of only one available position however, he wasn't impressed with her threat. He was rather adept at maintaining his role, but ever so often he had to resist the urge to narrow his eyes and betray his intentions, now was one such moment. To compensate, he widened his eyes instead, akin to a cornered animal.

Anybody could scoff, attempt to diminish and threaten. She spoke of claws, but he hadn't seen any yet. It was safe to say that the Garrett's suspicions were growing. For anyone who truly wanted to be a coveted spot among the Hades member, would be far quicker, even foolishly perhaps, to prove their mettle. For the purpose of gleaning some entertainment, he decided to still offer the girl benefit of doubt.

'C-claws?' he said, acting as though he hadn't already noticed the difference in her race. She went on, offering him a chance to run. In his head, this was a bigger error. Letting him go now, would only spell trouble for her. It'd leave her liable and the guild potentially vulnerable. 'I-I think its too late to run, they say if you get this far, you either make it, or you die...' He said, giving her a little glimpse of what he believed to be a grave oversight. How she dealt with it, would help clarify matters further.

The man proved peskier than she expected. The way he was shaking from just being there, she was sure that one threat would make him scream and run for his life. He didn’t, however. Instead, he stood there and gave her another rumour that he might have heard about the guild from someone. Her amber eyes narrowed. “Perhaps I didn’t make my intentions clear,” she said, uttering each word deliberately as she closed the distance further. She lifted her right hand and held it in front of the man. When she was sure his attention was towards her paw, she extended her sharp claws and placed them right under his chin, very close to his Adam’s apple.

With the slightest of the pressure, she warned once again. “Maybe you are right. Maybe they’ll hunt you down after you run. But you’ll at least have a chance then. If you don’t run now, you die right here. Right now,” she muttered, keeping her voice flat as much as she could. Naomi was no killer—unless it was a demon. She didn’t mean any of those words, but she was a decent actor. If she could force him to flee before the Red Hades members arrive, then there was no need for violence and she could ensure that she was the one selected that night.

Besides, the longer the delay by the interviewers, the greater her suspicion was that they were already being watched. One misstep, and she could lose her life. She had to keep up the cold and cruel appearance. But the idea that only one of them will be selected and the other would be killed had already shaken her core. Had she bitten off more than she can chew? How far was she willing to go to succeed at her mission? That fear urged her further to make her competition run. She felt as though it was her only choice to escape this without hurting or being hurt. “Leave," she said once again, this time more urgently, with a hint of desperation in her voice.

If he was not playing the part of the coward, Victor would have never kept his eyes riveted to the paw that extended towards him, that was a telltale sign of weakness, at least in his experience. Being intimately familiar with these small signs, hopefully helped in keeping up the charade. So, remaining characteristically opposite to his usual self, he watched as the claws slipped out of their spot, they were sharp indeed. He angled his chin higher, grimacing.

Victor had played this game of poker several times before. He knew the tells well, too well. This girl was no killer, at least not unless provoked. If she was, and still had some reason for holding back, she'd still at least have drawn blood. He took a wary step back towards the edge of the platform, half a foot already off the edge.  A faint honk of an incoming engine could be heard, but he was well aware that it wasn't going to be on the track behind him. Such details were usually scouted for, ahead of time.

The Garrett did enjoy toying with his potential victims, so he gave her more ways to prove her inadequacy for the guild and along with it, hopefully slip up enough for him to catch her in a lie that'd justify everything that would follow... not that he needed any such justification. 'Ok ok... You're right. I'll go.' he said, his eyes darting between her and the claw at his throat. A coward could take a hint, but he could exploit the mercy too. Slowly his hands rose, as though he was looking to reach a peaceful compromise.

When she threatened to pierce his throat with her claws, the blonde man took a step back towards the edge of the platform—out of fear, she reckoned. However, he was a little too close to the tracks and Naomi could hear the honk of the incoming train. The honking sound came from her left, which meant this train was heading in the opposite direction compared to the previous one. If she was at her most observant state, she would have realized this one wouldn’t be on the same track. However, in that stressful moment, she didn’t think that far. She saw him standing too close to the track and she knew there was a train on its way. Her immediate reaction was to get him out of the way.

Meanwhile, the man seemed to agree to leave. She saw him raise his hands, but thought nothing of it except for a sign of surrendering. The neko retracted her claws, dropped her right hand just a tad to hold him by the collar of his shirt. She would then first pull him away from tracks and then push him towards the exit of the station. “Get out of here,” she spat, as she pushed. There was a wave of relief, but also a slight panic. If the Red Hades members were watching, she was worried they would now see it as an opportune moment to interfere. The bad lighting didn’t bother her; she was a neko. So far, she saw no one in the vicinity. She would have spotted them even if they were using magic to conceal their presence. So, they were either terribly late or had far superior stealth skills.

He gasped exaggeratedly, when his collar was grabbed and he was maneuvered away from the track. He groaned weakly as he stumbled, upon being shoved away towards where he'd just come from. Being too pliant and too weak would also raise suspicion, so he did catch himself before losing his balance and falling.

She didn't even have the heart to have a train run over him. That wouldn't even be considered aggressive... it would've just been a passive murder, death by inaction, even.  The platform was quite long, the exit was quite far, there was a lot of distance for him to walk under her watchful gaze. She didn't seem to be following, at least she wasn't going to go as far as escorting him to safety. That would've been a dead give away in his eyes. Even an alleged weakling couldn't just give up, that'd corrode the prestige of the guild. So as he slowly walked away, turning ever so often to look at her, he carefully plucked his sword out of its sheath.

It was hidden under the fold of his light cloak and even if she'd seen it, it wasn't uncommon for people to possess weapons for defense. After the convenient circumstance allowed him to pluck the sword out, he turned. 'I-I didn't want to do this. B-but there is probably no other way, I must join the guild!' he exclaimed, deliberately heroically. Looking around nervously and dropping his voice he made a soft addition. 'I'd still rather not have either of us hurt one another... maybe we could find another way together.' he said, brandishing his weapon in very small motions.

She thought it was over, but it wasn’t. The blonde man changed his mind and wasn’t willing to give up. What’s worse? He decided to fight her. Naomi frowned for a moment, and then raised an eyebrow when she heard him say he must join the guild. “You must? Why must you?” she asked, folding her hands.

It was probably a bad idea to stand there with folded hands when the person opposite her was reaching for his weapon. However, from what he had displayed so far, she doubted he would make any sneaky or sudden moves to take her by surprise. This one seemed almost too straight to be joining the Red Hades, which made her even more curious.

She heard the train honk once again; it was closer this time but hadn’t yet reached the station. If it came down to a fight, the neko figured she could knock him down and throw him into the train, forcing his exit. Although, it was almost fifteen minutes past midnight and she was beginning to doubt anyone was coming to recruit them. She wouldn’t be surprised if it was just a dead-end. That thought brought another question to her. If it was a dead-end, it wasn’t specific to her. This man had fallen for the same one. “How did you know of the time and spot anyway? Who told you about it?” she asked, squinting suspiciously.

'I-I must because someone I care about, was recently recruited.' he said simply. He let his tone allude to the fact that this alleged recruitment could've been forced. But he didn't want to overplay his hand, just check to see if it evoked any empathy. He truly embodied the role, trying to think like the family member of all the victim's he'd wronged and what they'd do if they were given such an opportunity and a potential shady ally. 'That's also how I know about these... procedures.' he went on, inching closer to her slowly, acting hesitant, but waiting to get just close enough to leap and have her at sword point.

The sword risked slicing through his fake demeanor as well as it would shear through the neko's flesh. It certainly did not attest to a weak man's choice of weapon. No doubt, that despite her naivety she was observant enough to see that as a red-flag. His cover could soon be blown, if he didn't find some reason that would allow him to remedy this hitch soon. At this point though, the Garrett wasn't sure he wanted to indulge this little fiction anymore. He licked his lips, it could've passed of as a gesture that attested to the fact that he need to bolster his bravado, but it was more out of the blood-lust that coursed through him.  The light of the incoming train shined onto the gleaming blade, giving the violent red hue an ominous glint.

Her suspicious demeanour softened when she heard him say he wished to join only because he wanted to be with the one he cared about. Still under the belief that the two of them were being watched, she figured this was probably a test. If the Red Hades members knew this man was only trying to join because he wanted to save his loved one, then she wouldn’t be surprised if they set this meeting up to see what she did with him when she learned that information. What they would want her to do was to eliminate the man. This was obviously not going to be good enough reason to recruit him, and if they don’t recruit him, he was a potential threat with the knowledge he had of the recruiting methods.

In that case, she had already failed the test when she tried to force him to leave. But he had not, yet. Perhaps, she could salvage this situation. Or… Maybe there was no one watching and she could tell him the truth. Try to convince him to leave by promising that she would try to save his loved one.

Naomi was confused. She stood there, weighing her options, watching the blonde man’s every move carefully. The Neko couldn’t tell if he was genuinely distressed, or if this was all an act to get rid of her so that he could join. There were so many possibilities here and she did not have the perception or the information to put it together. In the end, she gave up and decided to continue playing hard ball. It was the safest option, and there was no harm in it so long as she doesn’t kill.

“You give me no choice,” she muttered, as she ran up to him to try and knock him out—unknowingly playing right into his hands.

As she hesitated and teetered, Victor drew steadily closer to the neko. It turned out that she didn't even care much about the weapon. At least, it seemed like she was finally going to make a move. What the intention was behind her gesture was still left to be determined.

It felt unlikely, that she'd waste so much time in garnering all this information and now suddenly go for the kill. It was still a gamble and for that reason, he casually had his guard up. He still wanted her to make the first move, she'd have to close the distance a lot closer, given the lack of weapons, claws were no match for a sword.

He held his sword and the other hand up defensively, prepared to block any attempt at scratching him. He wanted to stave off retaliating, till it felt absolutely necessary. To see, if the combat at least, would evoke a blood-lust in her, or not. 'There is always a choice.' he said, with a soft huff when she was close enough.

The first order of business would be to ensure he cannot move. Then, knocking him out and getting him out of Orchidia would not be that difficult. Naomi was not as experienced in combat as some of powerful mages she looks up to, but she had seen her share of fights. Rule number one was always to abuse the advantage that she had and her opponent didn’t. In this case, that would be the poor lighting, which doesn’t affect her at all but will affect the man—unless he had some trick up his sleeve.

She ran straight up to him but did not get into melee range. He seemed to have a weapon—a cruel looking one at that. Getting close would simply be giving him exactly what he wants. So, just after she crossed the five meter range, she replied to him first and then cast her Propel, by kicking off to the right using her left leg. “And I made mine.”

Naomi hoped the sudden change in her direction would throw him off, especially since the lighting in the station was poor at this time of the night. If it did shock him for even a fraction of a second, she figured she could use that time to hit her spells.

While he had been on point about her mental fortitude, given the evidence that she'd rather not kill... It would seem he had underestimated her ability to stand her ground. Which was perhaps a grave mistake. Given the climate of Fiore, it'd be surprising if he met someone who was a complete novice at handling themselves.

She was running straight at him for a second and he was feeling smug about her having played right into his hands. Her figure was illuminated by the light of the train behind him, and then suddenly she leaped out of the light into the veil of absolute darkness, at least in contrast.

His head whipped towards the left, but she seemed to have vanished. He squinted, staying ready, but allowed himself to exaggerate his jostled state. 'So you have... Please... Reconsider.' he said, in a mock whimper, wondering if he could still plead his case to her empathy.

She had made her choice and given the situation, it seemed to be most practical. She will not kill him, but knock him out and send him away. That way, she stops him from being harmed by the Red Hades members, which was very much a possibility, and she ensures her infiltration was a success. She didn’t respond to him when he pleaded; she had to steel her heart, for all her effort would be for vain if she faltered now.

While she was still in motion from her Propel, she pointed her left palm at the ground beneath Victor and then swiped her hand upwards. A white magic circle would form under him and a stream of purple feathers would shoot upwards. If he was still within range, the feathers would tickle him and make him susceptible to her following attack.

Almost simultaneously, she pointed her right palm next to her and swiped it towards his leg, casting her Flurry. Another stream of purple feathers shot forward from where she was, directly towards his legs. Just as she finished casting her two spells, she skid to a halt, about five meters to his right, and looked up to see the outcome of her attack.

He had to spend time tracking her and didn't have a chance to see the magic circle that emerged under his feet. Something else served to further hinder his vision now. Purple feathers. It was bemusing, he expected them to hurt, but they didn't.

They merely served as a distraction and oddly messed with his touch perception. The way they glided over his skin, felt... weird. He shuddered and was lucky that the faltering aided him in maintaining his role. One way or another, he could come out on top. Either he could could've been the more proficient fighter and defeated her in combat, or he could still use her empathy against her.

Another host of feathers and these ones did hurt. They scratched and sliced into his legs forcing a menacing grunt from his lips. Blood soaked into his garments and he folded, kneeling on his haunches now, wincing. 'W-why? Are you really going to k-kill me, then?' he said, his voice raspy as he found himself struggling more than usual to deal with the pain.

Her spells hit their mark, and it forced him to kneel. She thought this an opportunity to finish the fight. Now that he was immobile, she could safely close the distance and knock him out. The train that had arrived was honking now, denoting its imminent departure. She had to hurry.

“No,” she whispered, more to herself than him, when he asked if she was going to kill him. She was not a killer. Even if it meant she wasn’t going to be recruited, it didn’t matter. She would find another way. For now, she only cared about getting both of them out of there, one way or another.

Naomi approached him, keeping to his off-hand side to ensure she can see his sword if he chose to use it. But she was in a hurry. If he was trying to join this wretched guild to save someone, he was going about it the wrong way and he was better off not doing this. It was for his own good, she thought. Once she was next to him, she would attempt hitting him at the back of his head with the blade of her hand, to try and knock him out.

The train had crossed them, so there was no reliable source of light except the dim lamps on the walls of the platforms at the far ends, too far to make any real difference. His sword was flat on the ground, he couldn't make out her position, but he could assume it based on the soft whisper.

He was disappointed in her reply. She had him, kneeling and ready to be disposed. She had an advantage in the dark, he was practically a dead man. So his assumptions had definitely been right, no Hades wannabe would give up on such an opportunity, or be swindled into offering mercy out of pity. She had so much to learn, such naivety would certainly be the end of her in this cruel world.

The Garrett was met with the urge to find out more and to teach her better. He'd need to make room for such an opportunity. He picked up the blade and roared, almost plaintively. He didn't swing it, just served to use it deal mitigate the pain he felt. Sure enough, he was empowered. He slid, still crouching and then rolled away from her, buying time to get back onto his feet. Now he chuckled and clicked his tongue, finally surrendering to his own blood lust.

She was only a couple of feet away from him when he raised his sword and grunted a cry. Naomi stopped in her tracks, unsure what that meant. She shouldn’t have. Had she known what was about to follow, she would have pounced on him right then and there, and finished what she started. Alas, that wasn’t the case.

Immediately after his grunt, the man could miraculously handle the pain he was supposedly feeling from her spell. In her head, she assumed it was all an act from the start. Especially after she heard the click of his tongue. It was then that it dawned on her. There was no one else watching them. He was indeed the test; but he was also the one testing.

And… it would seem she had failed. Now, what?

The train honked one last time and began moving. Perhaps she could make it if she made a run for it. But she didn’t; she still had hope that she could somehow convince him that she was worth recruiting. It was little hope, but it was there. She began to think what would potentially increase her chances of not being thought of as weak. There weren’t many options, especially since she had to think on her feet. So, she said the first thing that came to her head.

“If that was a test, I’d say I passed,” she said confidently, folding her hands across her chest. “If there really was someone recruited and their loved ones came looking, killing them will only attract more attention to us,” she added, strategically adding the ‘us’ to include herself in the guild already.

He was so amused, he had to offer her the chance to continue this charade. He allowed her words to silence his chuckle and he cocked his head. Watching her for a moment, before sheathing his sword and clapping. Each clap resonated like a patronising slap, but his face was devoid of expressions that would attest to the true nature of his sarcastic gesture. 'You're right. I'd say you fared better than the drones I usually test, the ones who seek to eliminate everything that could potentially hinder them.' he said, with a delighted tone embellishing his words. He continued talking as he sauntered around her, like a predator circling their prey. He kept enough distance to be out of her melee range and to have the time to react should she attack him using her magic again.

It was easy to make them convincing, because he truly would have handled matters in a similar manner. The Garrett believed that death was too final... However, just because he agreed with her approach, didn't mean he truly agreed with her conclusion. He needed to find out what her entire plan would've been. Or at least, learn the theoretical lies she would spew in order to convince him. 'So, now that you have so quickly and expertly figured out that this was all just a ruse, tell me, how did you plan on dealing with the little problem, had it been real?'

He clapped. She couldn’t tell if it was sarcastic or for real. The Neko hoped it was the latter. Nevertheless, she stayed where she was. After all, she was here to infiltrate. She needed to ensure she never slipped up anything, or that would be the end of her. She listened to his question carefully. So far, it seemed like he believed her, or so she thought.

“I would have captured, found a way to wipe the memories and left him somewhere in the outskirts of the city,” she claimed. She anticipated the next question. How was she going to manage wiping a person’s memories? Those were advanced magic that she could only dream of. But she had an answer ready for that. She didn’t need to do it herself.

“In fact, he would have made a wonderful ‘gift’ for my entry into the guild,” she added. Of course, it was all a lie. Had he not broken his act, she would have knocked him out and escaped in the train with him, assuming she was saving him. Now that she was aware he was not the innocent man she thought he was, she had to adapt.

The train was long gone. She had made her decision. The only way she was going to pull this off was if she remained confident and alert. No one else knows of her plans. She left it that way because she didn’t want to involve anyone. But that also meant there was no caravan coming to the rescue. It was all on her.

'That is an interesting answer with an even more interesting follow up.' he said, still circling her. He wondered how to move this along so she further and more starkly incriminated herself. Now that he'd given up his original intent and role, their game took a step backwards, towards the more civil side of things. His blood lust was raging in protest, having been evoked only to be suppressed by lighter games. But he was still getting knowledge and that did satiate at least a part of him.

So far she was singing and he was intrigued to know what she thought he'd want to hear. Was she trying to get him to betray the kind of practices that happened within the guild? If so, it would take a lot more than this blatant approach to get him to reveal anything. 'Memory wiping is a rare breed of magic, I can't attest to whether we have among are ranks those who are capable of such feats or not...' He offered, and then posed another question.

'Given that, do you really think that a gift that demands time, tedious practice and resources is... still a gift?' he countered. There was no malice in his word, he merely wanted to see where this would lead. How long could she keep herself from faltering yet again. It was only a matter of time and if she truly didn't, he'd just take her advice. Tie up the loose ends.

His questioning was not out of line. Maybe the Red Hades didn’t care for their secrecy, or had other means to keep the authorities away, and would have simply killed the target. But she had no idea about any of those means. Her best bet would be to keep insisting that she had the interests of her supposed new guild at heart behind every decision.

“Perhaps. But I wouldn’t know of all the tricks the guild has at its disposal. Red Hades had managed to keep their secrets well, and I doubt it was all simply by murdering anyone who could potentially be a breach,” she countered. She let out a soft sigh after his second question. “Surely, using up some resource is better than becoming a beacon for the Knights and losing it all,” she added. Maybe she had taken it a little too far with this one. Her statement assumed that the guild would not be able to hold out against an assault from the Knights; which she was sure would be prickling his pride. But she had uttered the words and it was too late.

The only thing she could think of to cover it up casually was to change the subject and not let that statement to linger for long. “If you think killing is the only solution, then all the more reason you guys need me. I’ve got smarter solutions,” she said. After all, they wouldn’t take her in as a favour to her. She needed to show them she was worth it and would pull her weight.
