Briar Caidh
Briar was on a roll - quite literally as he fell for a titular stumble and rolled a few feet down the beach, with a squeak on each slight impact as if he was some kind of rubber toy. He picked himself off the ground on wobbly legs, shuffling to the side and almost barreling over his staff before he caught himself on a nearby shack. "Uwehhh ..." He mumbled, pawing at the building until he was standing straight and could re-affix his various accessories back in their proper places. Oh, and reacquaint himself with his staff since it had taken its chance to flee down the sand. "No, no! Ehh!"

Phuu... He lingered bent at his waist before he could hoist himself and every item on his person where it was meant to be. Took this chance to scan the horizon for the quest-giver of the day, catching his breath with a part of his tongue through his lips. Fairly, his general clumsiness had only gotten worse the more he worked as a mage - seemed backwards - but he couldn't contain the sheer level of excitement that came with his newfound responsibilities and his repeated successes. It wasn't just easy, per se, to pick up these low ranking quests -- it was nice to make these small differences. Raina, Bart ... he had been helping people. That was a hard feeling to not immerse yourself in.

Briar Caidh
It's why he had skipped down here today to meet up with this next client, Jacob, and do his part to make his day just a little better also. That un-temperable excitement just meant his little body couldn't always keep up with his bright eyes.

It didn't take long to connect despite the older boy's surly attitude: Briar was generally unbothered by less than sunny dispositions, taking it on himself to make up the difference with a certain soft touch and a drip of whimsy in his voice. He found you could generally cheer up anyone just by being honest about your own interest and landing on common ground in discussion.

For this case, Briar recounted his experiences with his anti-pollution volunteer work while they settled into Jacob's little fisher boat, and the other shared how excited he was to see his new bait in action.

It was magical, he reasoned, so both ecologically friendly and far more likely to bring in a reel catch! Briar had to giggle at this, curled into his little ball shape in the corner of the dinghy. "Nah, I think it's good someone's doin' somethin' about all this muck out here. You notice that kinda thing as a fisherman too."

Briar Caidh
Briar nods along and the two chat about the importance of cultivating and benefiting from the life out here before it comes his turn to spread the bait. It's been eye-opening for the new mage to learn more about the world and how it functions outside of his little garden, and especially the similarities between it and the ocean; everything really was just a cycle, in the end. We needed the fish from the sea and the fish needed the waters clean, and anything along the routine messing up simply made it harder on everyone.

Briar got so absorbed in his conversation with Jacob and the shared space they landed on, another exciting development and new friend to make!, that he didn't notice the bubbling beneath the water. It was Jacob's yelp - a holler, more like, of his own surprise and eagerness - that snapped Bri back to attention, and a multi-scaled fish burst from the sea on Jacob's hook and came snapping at the two. A pretty sight, to be sure, but not the most reassuring.

Briar proceeds to hit it with his staff, repeatedly and while flinching with each bonk; in a slight panic until it flops over onto the bow - unconscious - so he can stand, stunned and panting in the wake of the altercation. He had forgotten to employ the very helpful magics he had practiced just for this situation and reacted on instinct alone. S-sorry, fishie. Jacob was only elated -- Briar remained dizzied, but shared in the boisterous laughter as the waters calmed around them and the sun hit their figures.

All's well that ends whale.
