After Renshi had helped Yu go over the information they had gathered so far it seemed their next course of action was to search for the courtesan that Renshi's associate had talked about. Of course, the capital city Tiangjing was quite large, and its red light district would surely be just as massive.
"You don't have to go out of your way to do all of this you know?" Yu Ming asked with a slightly pained look. She had not intended on having her new found companion spend his hard-earned money on her like this. "Nonsense! If I was going to spend money on anyone, it would be you." Renshi said as if it was the most natural thing in the world. It's not as though he didn't understand her perspective. She had only just met him yesterday after all, and it would make sense for her to be wary of a man like him.

But despite what others may think, Renshi wasn't a fool. He had never met Yu before, and there was no real reason for him to go out of his way and spend a small fortune on someone he didn't even know. He knew that she was a stranger, and he was a stranger to her. But he didn't really care. To him, the world was full of people like himself. People who didn't give a damn about anything but themselves and their own well-being. Renshi wasn't like that. If someone needed help, he would help them. Even if that person was a total stranger. So he was content. He was happy to spend his money on the person before him. He would not feel guilty or remorseful.

Heaving a sigh at how determined Renshi seemed to be in his decision to help her, Yu smiled gently, a slight bow of her head following in a gesture of gratitude. "Thank you." She spoke, upon which Renshi replied with a smile. "You're welcome, and with that decided let us continue our search for your relative, shall we?" Renshi said. Yu gave a nod and a soft hum, the two taking the time to finish up their meal before getting ready to depart.

With a destination in mind, the pair set out. It would be a long search, but she was confident that with Renshi's help she would obtain the answers she sought.

The first stop would be to the pleasure district of Tiangjing. This part of the city was infamous for its high concentration of brothels, gambling dens, and other such places. It was after all the most likely place one would find a courtesan at. Thanks to Renshi's friend the pair had been given directions to a particular establishment where the courtesan was employed and practicing her trade.

Renshi and Yu Ming walked down the streets of Tiangjing towards the district which housed the brothel the woman would be working in. The city itself was large, with several districts each with their own distinct purpose. They passed through the merchant district and the entertainment district before entering the pleasure district.

As they neared the brothel, a man approached them. "Good evening," the man said politely. Yu Ming bowed slightly. "Good evening, sir." For a place as dangerous as the red light district people sure were polite...

The man eyed Renshi up and down and smiled. "My, what a fine gentleman you are," he said.Renshi couldn't stop himself from grinning. "I'll bet you say that to all the men." "Only the pretty ones," the man replied, with a hearty laugh. Yu Ming looked between the two men. She wasn't exactly certain what was going on. She was warned that the district could be dangerous at times, but this seemed a different type of danger!

"Are you...friends?" she asked hesitantly. The man laughed at hearing these words. "Something of the sort, let's call it: Fellow gentleman of culture" he replied.

"Well, we certainly have had the pleasure of meeting a few times." Renshi chuckled as he followed up. "Would you happen to know if... What was her name again, Miss Aihan is working today?"

The man soon replied with a slight nod of his head. "Indeed she is. In fact, I believe she is with a customer right now." the man replied. "Ahh, no wonder." Renshi chuckled, "That's perfect timing, then. I hope she can receive us once she's free. We are here for business matters." Renshi continued. "Of course. I'll send word to her right away. Just give me a moment." the man replied.

The man turned and disappeared into the brothel. He returned a short time later, with a woman trailing behind him. The woman was dressed in a simple, but elegant, red silk gown. Her face was heavily made up, but there was no mistaking the beauty hidden beneath it.

"Welcome, good sir," she said softly, bowing low. Yu Ming felt her cheeks heat up slightly. This woman was clearly an expert at seduction. "Please, allow me to escort you to my chambers," she added, but Yu could for a moment notice a slight disturbance in the woman's mana, her perfect act on the verge of being shattered once the courtesan laid eyes upon her.

There was clearly something going on here! But what? After they were guided toward the spacious chambers of the courtesan the woman inquired softly. "Do you wish for tea? It is not often I receive a guest with a female companion at his side." To which Renshi shook his head lightly. "There is no need for that miss Aihan, I come for business today rather than pleasure."

The words surprised the courtesan as she turned toward the man. "Please do tell me how I can help one of the inspectors of the imperial court." Renshi gestured lightly toward Yu as he asked kindly.

"Can you please take a closer look at my companion? Does she look familiar to you? Or do you recall anything upon seeing her?" The question was one the courtesan was not expecting. She took a step closer toward Yu, leaning forward to look at the girl's face. "I don't recall meeting a fair young lady like her---" But before she could finish her sentence a soft gasp escaped her lips. "Y-Yu? Is that you?"

The question came as a surprise, but what followed was not what she had expected. Tears started to roll down the courtesan's cheeks. "No, that is impossible... She died two years ago, I... I still can't get over my grief of losing my daughter. I'm sorry my dear, it is just that you look so much like her. Aside from your pointed ears you two look identical." Aihan continued, wiping the tears away.

"It's okay, I'm sure she will understand. After all, you're the only family she has left." Yu's words echoed through her mind. She was dead. The words seemed to weigh heavily upon the courtesan's heart. Her gaze lingered on the girl for a moment before she closed her eyes. Her heart was heavy, but her sorrow soon turned into anger. Anger towards the man who had caused this.

"You," the courtesan hissed, turning towards Renshi. "How dare you bring this girl to me. How dare you show me the face of my daughter after what happened!" "I beg your pardon?" Renshi's expression showed genuine confusion. "What did you say? Your daughter? What are you talking about?"

The courtesan shook her head firmly, attempting to clear her mind to calm down. "My daughter... Yu Ming was terminal ill, a weak constitution and her illness claimed her life two years ago during the winter. I do not know what you hope to accomplish by showing me this girl, but please... leave."

Yu was clearly struggling to say something, but Renshi instead gently took a hold of her shoulder and guided her outside. Even by the time they were outside and left the district not a word was spoken by Yu.

It was only by the time they reached a plaza of the business district that Renshi broke the silence. "I guess that wasn't the answer you were looking for." Renshi stated, to which Yu nodded her head slightly. How could she even accept this outcome? To think she had died, and that her mother didn't even want to see her? Was miss Aihan even her mother? It was clear that there was some kind of a relationship between them, but what was it? And what had caused such a strong reaction out of the courtesan?

"Let's take a moment to rest and collect the information we gathered so far." Renshi stated, gesturing toward a nearby restaurant. Yu only feebly nodded her head, and even after the food was served and she started to eat her meal she said little to nothing. "So far we confirmed that a girl sharing your name used to live in the capital. Aside from looking alike, there is no possibility for her to have been you: Why? Because that girl died of her illness two years ago, and last time I checked you're not a ghost."

Attempting to lighten up the mood the man joked softly but Yu only looked disheartened at him. "But then didn't we just hit a dead end?"

It was at that moment a soft voice called out from nearby. "Nu-uh, you're on the right track! You see~ The Yu Ming that died two years ago, and the Yu that 'you' are are one and the same~"

In a small sparkle of light a fairy appeared next to their table, grinning softly at them. "Yo~ You been quite a headache to track down Yu~ Isn't it about time you go back to Caelum with me? The fairy queen is starting to get impatient~"

Renshi's initial look of surprise turned into fascination while Yu scowled at the fairy. "Why do you continue talking in riddles like that?! How can I even be sitting here if I already died two years ago? I should be six feet under then!"

The fairy shrugged her shoulders. "Who knows~ Maybe the answer is in front of you and you haven't noticed it yet~ Besides did you even go and look at your grave yet?" With that said the fairy vanished and left behind a soft scent of flowers. Renshi had been following the conversation attentively and finally spoke. "It seems we are still missing pieces of the puzzle. However, we now have a lead, let's follow that trail for now."

A lead... Her grave? That was an ominous suggestion to make, but perhaps it was the only lead they had now. If she wanted to discover her origins then she had no choice but to go there.
