As beautiful of a city Hosenka was, it was not without its flaws. Atani had seen a glimpse of it when she was in Weirdlock Jones' office down in the Crimson Quarter. The rest of Hosenka was so polished, refined, and vibrant... And then you went to the Crimson Quarter.

That's not to say it wasn't beautiful in its own right-- the entirety of Hosenka was truly a sight to behold when compared to the rest of Fiore-- but it was evident that the corner was marred by criminal activity. In particular, organized crime seemed to be relatively prominent. While there were not many jobs put out there recommending to deal with particular gangs once and for all, there were plenty of requests in which information was desired. Rather than dealing with organized crime outright, it seemed gathering intelligence via espionage or some other means was the preferred method of interaction.

Espionage. Atani could do that. After all, it was something she had done quite often with Yuan back in Talaz Lagaar. And now that she had worked to unlock some of her once hidden abilities, she was now more light footed than ever; she could move without making a sound. When she still did not possess the ability to fight with her magic, as she was still learning to gain that back with Yuan, that was a skill that would prove invaluable in instances such as these when she couldn't afford to get caught in a fight. For even if she did and she managed to escape, if she got harmed in the process, she could not heal herself as well as she could before... At least not yet.

There was one organization in particular that the authorities desired information on. It was supposedly composed of Fiorians with Joyan heritage.

They were not straight from Joya, per se-- maybe only a minority of first generation Joyans were in their ranks-- but they did still consider themselves to be a Joyan mafia or yakuza type organization. They identified themselves with a basilisk tattoo usually somewhere on their upper extremities, which was what Atani used to identify potential suspects.

Serpentine tattoos in general weren't exactly uncommon, especially around the Crimson Quarter, so it took some careful inspection from a distance in order to discern which people were her potential targets, who may be part of another organization, or who was just an ordinary citizen and had a tattoo for the heck of it.

Eventually, Atani was able to find her target; there were a group of three Joyan-Fiorian men who all had similar dark inkings on their skin in the shape of a serpent with frills near the head and sizeable fangs.

She followed the three gang members, being sure to keep to the shadows while she did so. She kept a dark hood pulled over her head to cover her elven features. While in other parts of Fiore her pointed ears already drew enough attention as it was; in Hosenka, she saw even less of her kind. If the men saw someone like her constantly on their trail, they would doubtlessly become suspicious.

At a certain point, Atani had followed them to a quieter part of the Crimson Quarter where there looked to be an abandoned shack. She watched as the men went into it. Without wasting a moment, she shifted into her avian form and flew to the roof where there was a crack, enabling her to both see and hear what was going on inside.

It appeared the gang's goal was to hijack an upcoming shipment of valuable goods. Once Atani had heard all the details, she flew off and reported her findings to some Rune Knights who she knew would be able to handle the situation from there.
