The two travelers climbed up the rocky expanse. Jagged stones hurt their hands and pressed against the bottoms of their feet. Hina groaned at the pain but kept it silent so she could keep pushing forward. Kazimir turned to face her a couple of times to make sure she was alright.

As Kaz reached higher, his hand curved around a stone. The path had ended and all that remained was a steep cliff to climb. He knew he could make it, but wasn’t sure about his new companion. “You should stay here. Make sure no one else follows us up here,” Kaz requested. The girl snorted air out through her nose in silent protest but accepted fate.

“Thank you,” Kaz replied and Hina nodded with a smile, knowing that she had come a lot farther already than what was safe. Kazimir placed his hands on the cliff face and began his ascent. Clouds still blocked clear vision but the mage found handhold after handhold.

Pulling himself up was tiring but he finally saw a plateau towards the top. With a smile, he pressed his foot on the rocks and dashed off. The wind carried him higher and higher, as he kept kicking off the air to propel himself further up. One of the first tricks he had ever learned. And waiting allowed him to save some of his mana.

He flipped over the ledge and landed at a coliseum of marble. It was a round ring held up by numerous columns, letting air flow freely through the combat arena. Within the ring, there were three people already waiting.

The wind mage strolled into the circle of people. All of them radiated the power of the wind. One man glared at Kaz with narrowed eyes. His arms were crossed and jagged bursts of wind shot from his body. A loud voice rang out, “Finally you have all arrived. You will test yourselves against one another. Only one of you may possess the secrets of the wind. You will fight one on one.”

Kaz exhaled and rolled his shoulders. It had been a long time since he really let loose. And he had a feeling he would have to give this everything he had if he was going to survive.

“I’ll take on the arbiter of Byakko. It was said you turned away from Grace. You think you are stronger than it could have provided to you?” The northern wind snapped with indignation.

Kazimir stepped closer. The animalistic nature within him roared to be free. A feeling he had tried to keep dormant for a long time. “I don’t know who you are. But that Grace was a curse. If I am stronger it's because I’m free.”

“You little…” The northern wind mage stepped forward with his hands balled at his side. “I’ll show you power,” His eyes flashed, revealing his grace. Kaz glared back into his eyes, with bestial menace. It reminded him of the angel that forced his change.

“You aren’t the first I’ve fought. Let’s get,” Kaz was cut short as the northern arbiter dashed in and threw his hands forward to cast a spell. Kaz leaped to the side. He felt his dash move slower as he was in the radius of the man’s spell. The man followed up with five quick strikes to Kaz’s gut that sent the wind mage flipping backward. He was strong. Focused on keeping people close and dealing out damage. Kazimir flipped back to his feet as the man was charging forward. Exhilaration raced through Kaz’s veins. The werewolf inside howled alongside the spirit of the tiger. He felt more animal than man.

Kaz spun around and dashed to the side, leaping like an animal. Another arbiter looked on with disgrace at the uncivilized movements. Kazimir spun around the flurry of debuff spells. His movements got faster and faster until he was faster than the man’s ability to cast spells. The others looked on shocked.

“We heard about his speed…but…”

Kazimir closed the distance and ducked under the man’s double strike. He swung his palm like a claw and battered the man’s ribs. He followed with an uppercut. As his palm hit the man’s chin, he stomped his foot. The force of his wind dash sent them flying into the air. Kaz let the man go, as the arbiter drove a knee into, Kaz’s gut.

The arbiter threw up a shield to block Kaz's next blows that bounced off the wind wall. The two landed back onto the ground. The arbiter held his wind shield before him and prevent the next attacks and waited for an opening. Kaz tilted his head and examined the pattern. “Debuff…Shields… You haven’t learned the secret yet then.”

“What secret,” the arbiter snapped.

“That no matter how much you want to protect others,” Kaz rose his hands to the skies. “The wind is always…about destruction.”

He slammed his hands downward and blades of wind tore at the arbiter. His armor splintered off and his body jerked from the impact. Blood smeared the sky from his back as he crashed to the earth.

He bounced back to his feet and a wave of wind surrounded him. Kazimir Dashed backward, slower than before. The other arbiters exchanged looks at the violence of the wind.

Kaz’s body was peppered with a series of blows from the northern arbiter. The sorcerer swiped a clawed hand downward in front of him. A small tornado of wind burst to life and sent the arbiter flying backward. The arbiter collapsed to his knees and groaned. His breathing was heavy and the grace in his eyes began to fade. Kazimir stood over his enemy without a hand to extend to him. “You don’t need grace. If you want it, Use it. But I won’t be bent to a Seraphim’s whims.” The northern arbiter sat back on the ground. His body dropped to his back so he could see the sky. Anger still in his eyes he was soundless. Kazimir was victorious for this round.
