Poropo Poproporp
Poropo was tasked by the Oak Church to go into the catacombs below and try to clean the place of evil or restless spirits. The monk was not sure what kind of task this would be considering spirits were not his specialty, so the monk prayed to the Iron Deity, took his Elder Sage's Staff with him, and everything else he thought he might need to cleanse the catacombs! When the monk arrived at the church to be lead to the catacombs, the monk looked at the ground upon feeling a menacing presence - there was definitely something spooky at the bottom of the church, oozing evil aura in all directions. If the monk was not careful, he might become a spirit while saving spirits. If the spirits wanted to be saved, then the monk would likely be able to talk his way out of situations, but not all spirits want.

Not all spirits want, especially spirits of monks such as Poropo - the monk imagined if he passed away then he would likely not haunt a place for a material reason. In fact, the monk prayed everyday to the Iron Deity in order to join the Iron Deity's legion of angels when he perished - this way he might be summoned by the next, hopeful monk to come along which would help the monk cleanse impurity, even in the afterlife. As the monk walked closer to the catacombs behind a helpful priest, he could feel the menacing presence grow stronger and oddly louder, as if there was a chorus of whispers getting louder and louder. The priest Poropo was following seemed to be dealing with this problem all day considering the catacombs are just underneath the Oak Church. Perhaps the priest was used to the whispers or perhaps the spirits knew Poropo.

Perhaps the spirits knew Poropo, somehow - the monk had not killed anyone nor was he ever within Oak before this time, but maybe someone who spoke of Poropo came down here before he stepped foot himself. The more likely idea could be the spirits knew they were about to be visited by someone new they could torment and audibly molest with creeping whispers. The monk would only knew by stepping foot inside, which he did not long after reaching the bottom of the church. Within these catacombs were was a lingering musk, likely the smell of rotting corpses being unattended for decades. The guild who established these catacombs, Phantom Lord, must have been diligent or knowledgeable enough not to have a problem with the spirits. The Oak Church must not know how to deal with these spirits or are too afraid of what might happen if they stay after exorcism.

Putting the job off to someone else meant turning the focus of the spirits elsewhere, which the monk figured was his purpose today - maybe Poropo could make a spirit or two leave the catacombs and enter into the afterlife, but the real reason for the monk's presence was to entertain the spirits to keep them from wrecking havoc on the daily church goers and clergymen. The monk finally stepped foot into the catacombs and the was immediately greeted by gaunt figures floating around aimlessly. Their loud yet hushed whispers echoed throughout the catacombs, capturing the monk's nerves and squeezing them for all their courage. The monk could hardly withstand being here for more than a few seconds before looking behind him to think about turning back, but the monk had already accepted the job and decided he best follow through before the church curse him for giving up so soon.

The monk turned back to face the spirits floating around and attempted to ask them what they needed in order to leave to the afterlife or just haunt somewhere else. One of the spirits shouted they wished to eat real food while another shouted they wished for their murderer to come forth. The monk was unsure if either request was possible considering he did not know if spirits could eat real food or if the murderer was still alive either. If the monk was not careful, the spirits might take a chunk of his flesh for sustenance out of frustration for not completing an incompletable task! However, the monk thought of an idea he might be able to execute - what if the monk set up a station the spirits could visit for advice on how to ascend to the Iron Deity's legion? The monk was sure this would work wonders!

Poropo asked for a table or pedestal and chairs in order to sit down and talk civilly with the spirits about their problems or about the teachings of the Iron Diety. The monk hoped he might be able to reason the spirits into the afterlife and also increase the strength of the Iron Deity's legion, too. Two tasks completed with one quest - a beautiful and effective plan if the spirits were able to hold conversations and listen for more than a few seconds. The monk hoped this would work, but there was always something which could go wrong at any time with ghostly spirits. Some of the spirits the monk was seeing were returning dirty looks, as if they were going to do something awful if the monk decided to look at them again. Other spirits simply repeated a mantra over and over, as if wishing for something to change.

The was able to get a table and a pair of chairs from the church along with funny looks - the clergymen were confused by the monk's approach to cleansing the catacombs, but if the monk failed then he would simply not be paid. The monk was hired to be entertainment for the spirits, but the church did not have to pay if the monk did not technically complete the written requirements for the job posting. The church was sneaky in a way the monk was thankfully aware of, but just as the spirits were unpredictable, the church could be, too. If the monk did not send a spirit or two to the Iron Deity's legion, or 'heaven' as the clergymen would say, then the monk would not be paid, even if the spirits were entertained. The monk set up the table with a chair for himself and a chair opposite.

Poropo set up his table with two chairs opposite each other in the center of the catacombs, waiting for a spirit to sit down and have a conversation about their haunting. The monk did not get many spirits initially until one, small spirit sat across from Poropo and waited. The monk was unsure of what to say since the conversation was meant to be started by the small spirit, so all the monk said after a moment of awkward silence was a question - the question asked about how the spirit was doing, nothing more or less. The small spirit then explained they were looking for their parents - Poropo's heart nearly blew up with sadness, hurting the chest of the monk. Poropo grasped his chest and wheezed a little at the thought of meeting the spirit of a dead child in a place like this, unfriendly and filled with stinking mold.

Poropo quickly attempted to console the little spirit and let them know of where their parents must have gone to. The afterlife was not a place on the world, instead a place within the Iron Deity's legion where the spirit's parents would more than likely be. The monk could not be absolutely sure of this fact, but there was always a chance this was true - the little spirit listened intently and seemed to look in a different direction which seemed to faintly glow with light. Poropo nudged the little spirit, reassuring the poor thing they would meet their parents. Poropo made sure not to be specific in his assurances, just in case. After all, the monk could never be sure what the afterlife would be like unless he went there which would be a couple years too soon at the moment. Poropo watched the little spirit make their way onward.

The next spirit which approached the table and sat down was a gaunt spirit which the monk had met once a few minutes earlier. They started chanting a mantra about finding their murderer and the monk assured them their murderer was likely dead already, either a spirit or in the afterlife. The gaunt spirit continued to chant, but their chanting slowly subsided as they thought about the implications of their murderer being dead by now - this gaunt spirit had been a spirit for a long time within these old catacombs. The gaunt spirit looked to Poropo and then towards a faint glow in the distance. They seemed to have found peace with the idea of being dead - nothing left to do, even if the murderer was alive. The gaunt spirit filled with vitality, looking gaunt no more, and left the catacombs to join the Iron Deity's legion, known as heaven.

Poropo continued to see spirit after spirit after proof of talking to the monk saved their souls from eternal wandering through the dank catacombs. The monk was certain he would get the full reward from the clergymen of the Oak Church and then some extra - the spirits were lining up one by one to be told their struggle could be ended if they let themselves go. Their spiritual body was holding them back from enjoying the afterlife as they were meant to - the Iron Deity accepted all within his ranks from whatever background or origin they may have had at one point or another. There was nothing to do for the monk other than to let the spirits know they could go if they wanted. Some spirits needed extra convincing since they had tangible reasons for staying within the catacombs such as finding a spirit to take with them onwards.

Eventually the monk was satisfied with his work - the spirits within the catacombs started to communicate with each other and send each other to the afterlife with smiles on their faces. Of course, the monk knew he would be leaving behind those who were stubborn and would continue to haunt the catacombs because their happiness was making others miserable. The monk could do nothing against such evil and annoying spirits so he just went to the priest who guided him into the catacombs for his reward. The priest knew something was different about the catacombs and promptly paid the monk for his work - the clergymen had more than enough funding to pay the monk in order to motivate him to return a second time. The work done today in the catacombs would ease the sleep of the clergymen who lived within the Oak Church above the normally noisy catacombs tonight.
