After making his way back to Baska, Jin immediately received word that Mattoro wanted to meet him. It didn’t take a genius to know what he wanted. Tonight’s the night. After all the waiting, all the planning, it was finally time. Tonight was the night that Giroud would take his last breath.

Much like with Kalaus, Mattoro wanted to meet with Jin away from their usual meeting place. A job such as this required his full attention. Jin makes his way to their designated meeting spot which, ironically enough, was the very same bar that Kalaus drew his last breath. Jin knew that this was likely no coincidence. The behemoth enters the bar, instantly spotting Mattoro’s imposing frame at the bar’s counter. He sat in the very same seat that Kalaus did shortly before his death, another ‘likely coincidence’. Jin slowly moves inside the establishment and spot the same woman from before working behind the bar. Upon seeing Jin, a large smile appears on her face. “Hey, it’s you! How you doing hon? Can I get you anything?” “I’m fine. And what I had last time.” Jin says as he sits down next to Mattoro. The woman smiles and goes to complete his drink order, a noticeable pep in her step.

My friend, its good to see you.” Mattoro says as he turns to face Jin. He promptly extends his hand out and shakes it before returning to his drink. The woman slides the drink over to Jin and places a few shots next to him. “These are on the house. Just a small thank you.” She says as she goes to help other customers. “Something I missed?” Mattoro says with a smile as Jin downs his first drink. “No. Just seems like you weren’t the only person who hated Kalaus.” Mattoro, silently noting what he meant, smiled as he took another large swig of his drink.

The two drank in comfortable silence before Mattoro began to speak. “I’m sure you figured out why I’ve called you. Tonight will be the end of it.” He takes another swig of his drink before pulling out a small object wrapped in blue cloth. He places the object on the table and slides it towards Jin. The behemoth picks up the item and places it in his bag. “Do you know where he is?” Jin asks as he downs another shot. “Unfortunately, I don’t. He’s been a bit of a recluse after Kalaus’ death. He probably realizes that it was no accidental overdose like the reports say. All I know is that he’s in Baska tonight.” Jin glances over towards Mattoro’s man and sees a somber look in his eyes. His voice sounded like he was unsure of what he was asking.

For someone who has planned this out, you don’t sound as excited as I thought you would. Having second thoughts?” Jin asks inquisitively. Mattoro places his drink down and blankly stares out in front of him. He takes a deep sigh as he rubs his eyes. “This has to happen. It needs to happen. I just hate that another family has to be placed through this hardship. Dealing with the loss of a husband, a father, a son; none of it should have to happen. Despite that, Giroud needs to pay for all the harm he and Kalaus caused. The families of the deceased must have justice.” Jin, knowing this feeling all too well, understands the man’s situation. He stands up, placing a few jewels down to pay for Mattoro’s drink and to give a little tip to the waitress before turning towards the door. “I’ll get it done and meet you back at your shack. Try not to drink yourself into a coma in the meantime.

Giroud was breathless but not from exertion. Sweat poured down his face as he glances around before quickly darting out of the building. He stuck to the shadows, his eyes darting towards anything that moved. Anxiety had threatened to completely overtake his life. It had only been a few days since Kalaus passed away. Everyone said that it was an accident, accidentally alcohol overdose. Giroud knew better. It was murder, it had to be. There were rumors that the miners were planning something. Frankan had all but severed ties with both him and Kalaus shortly before things went awry. Something was going on and he was next. He could feel it. He only had a few more things to clear up in Baska before he could be done with the place.

His family, for their safety, were already sent away. They assumed he was crazy but eventually relented on leaving. It was for the best. He quickly traveled down the road, frequently looking back to see if anyone was following. Occasionally, he sees a large looming shadow around the rooftops but discards it as just his mind playing tricks on him during a closer inspection. He darts towards his next destination, a corporate building to discuss a piece of business. It was the eventual expansion of another mine in the area. During the meeting, Giroud’s mind was unfocused. Every time he glanced at the stained-glass window; he could see a large shadow. When he would inquire about it, they found nothing on the other side. He knew that someone was there. They had to be, for his sanity if nothing else. The meeting went by like a blur and Giroud left as soon as he was able to. Only one more place he needed to go and then he’d be done with this place. He’d be able to leave everything behind. As he slips into the crowd, he had the unmistakable feeling that he was being watched.

He turns around and sees a behemoth of a man glaring at him in the distance. The man towered over the people that walked around him, his piercing hazel eyes glaring a hole through his soul. Keeping an eye on the man, Giroud moves to the right. He could feel his heart threatening to beat out of his chest when he saw the man slightly tilt his head in that direction. “He’s following me. Shit…” he mutters before he quickly turns to leave.

He moves through the crowd and does his best to try to stay hidden. Occasionally, Giroud would glance behind him. Each time he did, his heart sank as he saw the man steadily getting closer and closer. “Shit” he says loudly as he increases his pace, trying to find a place to escape from. The sun was beginning to set and the crowd beginning to thin. He needed to act fast and think of a way out of this. “The mine!” he thinks as he assumes that he would be able to lose his pursuer through the mine’s near labyrinth-like tunnels. The workers, if any were still there, would help deter the man after him. He pushes his body to go forward, running as fast as he ever had in his life. All he needed to do was to get to the mine and he’d be in the clear.

Before long, Giroud finds himself at the mine. He glances around and doesn’t see either the man who was after him nor any of the workers. This was fine. Some of the miners had a place to catch a quick nap within the mine. He’d hide out there until morning then he would be free. As he goes to make his way into the mine, his heart stops. At the entrance stood the man he saw in town. Giroud stops in his tracks as the man’s eyes narrow. “I had a feeling you’d come here. So predictable.” Jin grimly stared at the terrified man in front of him, watching him slowly move backwards. He did not run away, something Jin noted was either out of fear or that he knew that he would not get far. “Wh…what do you want? Money? Do you want money? Women? Men? Whatever you want I can get it for you.” He says shakily. Sweat once again began to bead from his face as he stumbles to the ground. Jin approaches him slowly, relishing the fear in the man’s face. “There is nothing you have that I want. I’m simply doing a job.” The man’s screams are all that’s heard before his vision fades to black.

Here should be fine.” Jin mumbles as he displays Giroud’s body in front of the mine under a pile of boulders. He needed to make it look like it was an accident though he figured no one would really investigate further. Even if they did, most of them would not mind that he was killed. Giroud, along with Kalaus, were not well-liked men. Their deaths were a long time coming. Jin, whether he believed it or not, was doing Baska a favor.

At the crack of dawn, Jin had finally made his way back to Mattoro’s shack. He spotted the man speaking with one of his crewmen. His face seemed to relax and he almost cracked a brief smile when he saw the approaching Jin. He quickly shooed the crewman away and moved towards Jin with an extended hand. “My friend…” “Seems word travels fast.” Jin states, cutting him off. He motions for Jin to follow him as the two of them walk along the road. “The deceased can finally rest in peace. Their families can take comfort in knowing that the men responsible will never again place a family in this situation. I can rest knowing that they have been avenged. My friend, you have done us all a great service. One of which, we can never repay.” He hands Jin a large sack of jewels and somberly stares at the rising sun. “This doesn’t even scratch the surface of what we owe you but I hope you accept it.” Jin takes the jewels and places them in his bag, extending his hand to shake Mattoro’s. “This helps. Thank you. I’ll be in Baska a little while longer. Just clearing some things up. If you need anything, you know how to find me.
