Atani was glad she completed the quest and got shelter when she did, for a storm came rolling through Marigold. Atani could tell that one was approaching from the scent in the air reminiscent of petrichor-- you didn't have to be a werewolf or a Dragon Slayer to tell that. Anyone knew the telltale signs of an oncoming storm. Atani, however, did not know that this storm would be more like a tempest. It was difficult to see just how dark the clouds were in the dead of night. She had expected heavy rain showers teamed with possible lightning and thunder, but nothing to the extent of what truly happened.

During the night, the wind howled like she'd never heard it before. She heard tree branches clatter against buildings. Shutters that had not been locked slammed open and shut on wooden planks or cobble walls. Luckily, the elf was safe in her room at the inn. It was a relatively new building in comparison to some of the others that had been built in Marigold. They didn't always have to accommodate travelers, but with the popularity of mages and adventurers rising throughout the entire country, something had to be done.

Eventually, the thick of the storm passed and Atani was able to fall asleep to gentler rain and quieter rumbles of thunder making their way to the next town over. It seemed like no time at all had passed during the elf's dreamless sleep when the night suddenly turned to day. Rays of light shone through the window of the inn serving as nature's alarm clock. It signaled to Atani that it was yet another day, which meant there was yet another quest for her to take in Marigold. As quaint as the town was, she didn't travel there to vacation. She traveled there to work. She didn't bring enough jewels with her to enjoy too many leisurely days. As such, she needed to make sure she had plenty under her belt to cover any unexpected expenses. This past storm was a perfect example of what could cause such expenses. Thank Sayha it didn't, but natural disasters were unpredictable.

The Wood Elf got ready for her upcoming day of work. What it would entail, she did not know. The town's request board would decide that for her. Upon reaching it, however, the work seemed sparse. Little odds and ends to do.

All trivial compared to the types of quests she should have been taking at her level. Atani was debating over which one was the least boring task to accomplish when another person came to the board. He held the paper against the board and stuck a nail through the top to secure it to the wood. He walked away without a word, not even acknowledging that she was the only person even looking at the quests at the moment. Perhaps it simply wasn't that urgent of a matter. But regardless, Atani decided to spare the paper a glance anyway. Thank the gods she did, for this one provided a higher reward than the rest.

Evidently, some buildings had been damaged in the storm from the night before. Shocker. Though the buildings around Atani seemed fine, save for some beat up shutters, she supposed the same could not be said for other areas of Marigold. Older areas that weren't built as sturdily as the more recent ones, she wagered. Judging by the location listed on the quest, that seemed to be the case. So, without further ado, Atani set out for the part of town that had been hit the hardest.

For someone as important as Fernando De Syllas to be putting out requests, Atani found it peculiar he never showed for any part of it himself. None of the other towns she had worked in operated like that. Typically, as it went, the person who requested the help of the mage would either personally greet said mage or reward them. Most of the time, that same person would do both. Fernando De Syllas, on the other hand, did neither. He did not do so for this request, and sure enough, when Atani reached the site of the damaged buildings, the ruler of Marigold City was nowhere to be found.

Didn't want to get his hands dirty, huh? Let a wandering mage help out a town that wasn't even theirs? It worked. Atani wouldn't fault the man at that. It would just mean more money for her and less for him, but that was besides the point. She had to wonder if the townsfolk ever thought differently. They weren't the ones being paid to clean up property that wasn't theirs. They were just chipping in with some old fashioned southern hospitality, the precedent not to complain ingrained in their family's DNA.

Those thoughts, however, were something to keep to herself. Regardless of who was right or who was in the wrong, she still had work to do. The bulk of what needed to be done was construction. As much as Atani wanted to put her skills in sturdy design to good use, it seemed there were already citizens who had that covered. She just hoped that whatever blueprints were drafted up, they made for a better building that could withstand storms. But of course, as Atani was still very new to the area, she wouldn't know what it looked like before, so she wouldn't know if there were truly any improvements or not.

She did all the work requested of her. She assisted in carrying supplies, hammering in nails, cementing stone, solving various problems that aroused during construction, and whatnot. Though the citizens knew she was a member of a wizard's guild, she still refrained from using magic around them, still out of fear that it would somehow get out of hand and that she would end up causing even more damage. But she simply gave the excuse that she liked to conserve mana whenever possible. It was good enough for them, and by the end of the day, substantial repairs had been made to the buildings. Atani was rewarded, and her work in Marigold came to a close.
