Ko liked Marigold at night. To be fair, he enjoyed most places better at night, but out of all the places he'd visited in his life, he enjoyed Marigold's night life the most. It wasn't loud, or bawdy, or garish like most larger cities. Not unless you wanted it to be. Otherwise it was quiet, almost serene in a way. Unfortunately, Ko wasn't out tonight to enjoy the ambiance. He was, in fact, hard at work.

Syllas had sent out a call to action thanks to the raiding of a particularly burdensome group of bandits that had been haranguing the city markets at night. He wanted these Bandits dealt with yesterday, and that meant getting mercenaries involved. Ko, naturally, couldn't pass up a chance like this. Good pay for a good fight was about as even a trade as Ko ever wanted these days.

Thus, after getting a thorough description of the Bandits he was on the lookout for, Ko took to the streets. He was wearing a heavy cloak with a hood, concealing his features heavily and ensuring that anyone who caught sight of him wouldn't be able to peg him as anything more than a man walking down the street. It wasn't a perfect, disguise, unfortunately. More than one local actually crossed the street when they saw him approaching, which normally Ko might take as a compliment but in this case was detrimental.

Eventually the clock passed midnight, and Ko was beginning to think tonight was turning into a wild goose chase. There was no way to predict when the Bandits might show up and strike, so Ko had been prepared for his solo stakeout to be a failure, but he had to make the extra effort if he wanted to be the one that collected the reward. He was just about to call it quits when he turned a corner and heard the telltale sound of footsteps. Many footsteps, all converging in one direction.

Ko leapt into action immediately.

It didn't take long for Ko to spot the gang that was moving through the streets. As much as they were attempting to disguise their movements they were just a ragtag group of thugs. They didn't seem to have any training to help them move as a unit, and many of them seemed not to realize that they were supposed to be staying hidden. At the very least, it made it easier for Ko to follow them without being noticed.

Eventually the group converged on a single storefront that one of the figures pointed out. Immediately, Ko beaded in on that man in particular out of the bunch. Considering how loosely organized the group was, it was unlikely he was just one of many casing multiple targets. That man had to be someone in charge, or at least important enough to warrant the thugs paying attention when he said something.

Still, even with all his suspicions Ko couldn't just jump in and attack the group. For one, they were too big for him to get them all anyway. He was going to have to rely on the guards to catch the lions share of them. The important part was securing his 'portion'. Secondary to that concern was making sure that these men were, in fact, the Bandits he was chasing. It was a slim chance that they weren't, but Ko wasn't about to take the chance. A savvy Bandit could even claim that Ko had attacked him out of the blue and that he'd committed no crimes if Ko tried to catch one before they did something.

Luckily Ko didn't have to wait long. Once the group had converged on the storefront, it wasn't long before Ko heard the muffled sound of breaking glass. Immediately, several men disappeared into the building's interior, and that was Ko's sign to get started. The ones outside might get away for now, but whoever was inside was his.

Ko had to give it to these Bandits; for all that they lacked any kind of coordination as a unit, they at least knew how to scurry. As soon as he'd made himself known, the Bandits that were still standing outside the storefront didn't try to block him or silence him at all. They booked it, taking off running down the street. That told Ko that at the very least they were smart enough to know that he wasn't the only one looking for them.

Unfortunately, they were a little too quick to scatter. Ko had barely even closed the distance on the store when the bandits inside started to vacate quickly. So Ko did the only thing he could think. He charged straight at the disabled door where the Bandits were exiting, and launched himself through it foot first. To his great fortune, he just managed to strike the very last Bandit as he was reaching the door, knocking the man back inside the store's interior.

Ko didn't know the man he'd struck down, but he certainly didn't seem like the average bandit. He was broad shouldered, and had a jagged scar across his face that spoke volumes of his tough life. Of course, the solid fist that sunk into Ko's gut told him a whole lot more than the man's face did. If Ko wanted to keep this guy in here, he'd have to work for it.

It was one of the harder fights Ko'd had to that date. Even with his magic bolstering him, the bandit was stronger than he was, and faster as well. The only thing Ko had in his corner was sheer durability, and it was a good thing too. Ko couldn't outmaneuver the bandit, simply because doing so would have eventually moved him away from the door, thus giving the other man the chance to escape.

Eventually, Ko managed to wear the bandit down through sheer perseverance, and by the time the Guards showed up Ko had the bandit securely restrained. The guards walked away with their prisoner, and Ko walked away with a fat paycheck. In his eyes, that was a productive night.
