”Hmmmmm…” A low, almost purring rumble sounding out coming from the mouth of a raven haired girl as she stared at a noticeboard, as she stood there humming, Ellie Cavallero couldn’t help but feel an almost overwhelming sense of excitement bubbling up inside her. Reaching the capital of the nation and deciding to ‘check in’ on the job requests and the like, largely out of curiosity really, now that a good half dozen piece of paper were presented in front of her, the lilac eyed lady felt a sense of fascination and zeal almost like no other. Perhaps some just seeing a simple noticeboard filled with every day chores but to this hyped up heroine each little call for assistance the first step on an adventure, even mundane tasks seemed thrilling to her right now, after all, the floral fox had so rarely been involved in simple errands in the rather charmed life she had lived so far.

So these are the sorts of things that Mr Gil would do? Resting one of her hands gently on the point of her chin in the shape of a clenched fist that reflected the sense of eagerness she felt, the whole body of the girl seemed to tighten to the point that she almost started to shake from the tension that she carried, such was the effort she put into restraining her enthusiasm.
I’m so excited~ Captivated by the life of a travelling guild member ever since she had heard those first stories from the handsome and noble man who had saved her life as a little girl, as one of her dainty little digits extended from her balled up paw began to sway along her skin just below her lips, Miss Cavallero felt as if she was following in his footsteps of the person she admired more than anyone in the world and that made it hard to restrain her fervour for more than a matter of seconds really.

Imagine if… One day, Mr Gil and I get to work together on something? The time that she spent lingering in front of the noticeboard no short allowance, as she stood there in clothes that were conservative and yet had just a hint of cuteness about them, Ellie couldn’t help but lapse into fantasy just a little bit. Always the type to make sure she was dressed correctly even if she did like to spot that odd admiring gaze directed her way now and then, she wore a slightly tight  shirt in the colour of plums and an equally snug little black miniskirt which really showed off the pleasing shape to her legs, amongst other things.

Travelling together… Fighting together… The mind of Miss Cavalerro currently not on the people who were walking past and giving her those lingering stares, however, instead her head was rapidly filling up with fantasies as her mind grew out of control. In her head the girl and a slightly scruffy older gentleman tackling quests together, she could see the man she so admired offering her a hand to help her up a steep mountain face or pulling her close to him to defend her from an attack and really it was pure bliss to imagine.

…Or bunking together…? The cheeks of the chic teen growing rosier by the moment at the thought of what she could do together with her hero should they find themselves on some long and dangerous quest together, as the youngster’s mind went to even more vivid locales she couldn’t help but bite her lip as she imagined herself having to cuddle for warmth with the man and perhaps that simple situation seeming to lead to places even more heavenly that it sent a shiver through her spine, though it took her a few seconds of indulgence the girl pulled herself from her imagination with a heavy blush colouring her cheeks and realized she should really get on with one of these jobs. After all, she couldn’t spend all day being so lewd…

My first job… I’m a little nervous? Arms pulled behind her back as she approached the address listed on a flier she had liberated from the noticeboard that she had been staring at, while the task that was upon it probably wasn’t the most dangerous one really, Miss Cavallero couldn’t help but feel a hint of apprehension all the same. Certainly finding herself excited, while she hadn’t found an epic slaying the bandits type piece of action to really ‘cut her teeth’ as a guild girl in the most spectacular fashion, she had plucked a task that seemed like it would suit her own talents, and perhaps not many others.

But hopefully it won’t prove to be too much of challenge for me? The piece of work toward which she had been drawn something that the lilac eyed lady could feel a little bit of confidence about performing, while she felt a hint of anxiety about doing work in a formal fashion, the floral femme did at least have a little bit of assurance given what the request she had folded carefully and carried in her hand seemed to demand of her.

I honestly never expected my lessons in linguistics would prove to be so advantageous in this line of work, but I suppose life does surprise you, does it not? Apparently someone in town in need of someone with a measure of higher education to help them make sense of a note or letter or something of the sort that was in a language that the client did not understand, while Ellie was perhaps not what you would call fluent in every language of the world, she did boast at least a little understanding of terms in a variety of global forms of speech. Capable of carrying out a little bit of polite conversation in Minstreli or Caelese because of her lessons in eloquence, being born of a Joyan mother had also endowed her with a casual understanding of their exotic script and speech, which seemed to also have an overlap with the speech of the Sinese as well, offering her a wide range of options to choose from in this endeavour really…

“H-Hello?”

Full of zeal and no shortage of the proverbial beans by the time she had travelled up the garden path to the out of the way but by no means humble abode of her client, after rapping on the door with a sense of sharpness that reflected that, Ellie found the large wooden object opening with a creak that sounded almost sweet and satisfying to her. There something about grand old homes that seemed to soothe her, it reminded her of home just a little bit and helped set her just a little bit at ease to hear that familiar groan of old hinges, inspiring a small smirk that grew ever more genuine when a fair young woman peeked around the mobile barrier but a moment later.

She seems rather fetching, in her own way? The seemingly small soul who peeled the door back by no means lacking in the looks department, while Miss Caravello was not wholly interested in the looks of her client, her eye for aesthetics still picked up plenty on this pretty thing to find enjoyable and other things that only added a mystique to her. The somewhat frail looking femme in front of her having that kind of slight build which, on some days, the broadly hipped beauty with black hair might have envied, with that the bright and blonde hair the girl had certainly caught the eye, and though she seemed to be sporting something of a poker face the inherent good looks that this teen-looking youngster possessed were not diminished by it. Or the item that obscured part of her lovely looking features either…

Pretty eyes… Or eye? The features of the femme in front of her rather lovely but one having to be rather blind not to miss the most unusual thing about them, Ellie’s gaze washed over the slim and slender aspects of the youngster’s face but couldn’t help but focus on the windows to her soul, and more specifically the fact that one of them was currently rather well concealed. A lovely little blue gemstone looking back at her like a glistening sapphire from one side of her face but the other rather wholly concealed by a black eyepatch, even though she knew it would be rude to stare, in the moment or two that the black beauty spent assessing the good looks of the girl she couldn’t help but feel a measure of curiosity about that particular feature. However, it did not seem to detain her interest for very long really.

“Ah, good morning, nice to meet you~!” The soul within the house seeming just a little bit timid and restrained to the girl that had called upon her but Miss Cavallero anything but, whether it was her sense of passion and excitement at getting her first job under her proverbial belt or the simple manners with which she had been raised that compelled her toward a cheery greeting few would know, but regardless of the reason she was certainly at her brightest in this introduction. First impressions oh so very important and this haughty horse enthusiast certainly looking to get her first foray into the world of board requests off to a flying start, even though one might observe a somewhat blank expression from the person opposite her, the glowing girl gave a soft hum and felt undaunted despite this fact as she lingered in the doorway, being far too polite to enter without an invitation of course.

“I uh… Nice to meet you?”

The bewilderment of the blonde by no means seeming to be alleviated by the brightness that the black beauty shone with, it was perhaps a little bit lost on Ellie that her assertiveness and enthusiasm might be coming across as a tad overbearing, but she rambled along regardless.

“My name is Ellie Cavallero and I believe I am looking for a Miss Luciel?” Filled with a sense of excitement and determination to get her introduction across in as wondrous a manner as she possibly could, even as a blonde stood in her way, all that the raven haired teen could do was beam with bliss and extend a keen hand to greet this young woman in a way befitting someone of reasonable class and upbringing. Practically having to snatch this stranger’s hand up to shake it but not minding that too much since the girl seemed rather shy to the violet eyes of our vivacious vixen, she was happy to take those steps forward to meet her in this regard, not wanting to seem daunting or intimidating in the slightest, even if she was a little by accident.

“Oh, that’s me…”

At the very least her bluster seeming to take her where she needed to go rather quickly, though the reply that she got from this strange and seemingly meek soul seemed rather subdued, the details that she conveyed were rather invaluable really. Not exactly knowing what to expect from the person who had put this request up but for some reason expecting someone of a little more age and refinement with a name like ‘Luciel’, while Miss Cavallero was by no means disappointed to discover that the soul she sought was a girl her own age if not a year or two younger by the looks of things, she did hold a hint of surprise at this fact if only for a moment. However, it was something she would easily take in her stride as well…

“Oh well, goodness gracious, we can get straight down to business if that’s the case!” Perhaps a little stunned by the fact that she had already found her client and they came in the form of a girl who was actually just a little bit cute, after a moment of realization and reflection on this simple fact the zeal of Miss Cavallero reaffirmed itself and she was back to being her usual exuberant self. The smile that the lilac eyed lady wore brightening almost immediately and her heart seeming to quicken in pace when she realized that she was already face to face with the person who needed her aid, she couldn’t help but ball her fist up and lift it to a position that wasn’t that much lower than her jawline as her sense of excitement overwhelmed her, making her crave the ‘heart’ of the matter more and more with every moment.

“I understand that you are in a rather dire need of a translator?” The nodding that she gave as she continued to enquire and explain her reason for being here another red hot indicator of the eager anticipation that Ellie was practically burning with at this point, though she caught a little bit of suspicion mixed with curiosity in the eye of Miss Luciel, the flowery fox did not make much of it really. This girl certainly seeming to have led a sheltered life in the opinion of the black beauty judging by how timid she seemed to be, the generous and somewhat puffed-up heroine that we follow had no reason to hold such simple facts against this girl, and was quite happy to overlook the shyness that she saw in the girl. In fact, if anything the slightly confused and timid nature which the lass demonstrated actually made her seem somewhat cute really, and that was without even considering the oddity that was her eyepatch.

“Right, yes… Come in, I suppose?”

The young woman at least seeming to have been raised with manners at a reasonably high standard, even though by the degrees of decorum to which Miss Cavallero was used to she had been detained in the doorway for a tiny bit too long, this was not much of a factor that would make her judge the girl. After all, she did seem rather hesitant, and it was perhaps best for a young woman to be a little discerning in the visitors that she let into her home, especially if she lived alone as the case seemed to be here.

“Excellent, excellent. It’s not the sort of matter to be dallying on the doorstep about, now is it?” This consideration that our lilac eyed lead offered not meaning that she was lacking for gratitude however when she was allowed entry by the blonde, as Luciel stepped out of her way Ellie strode into the abode of the girl with confidence and poise. Happy to see what sort of house she lived in, especially given how grand the exterior looked, when she walked into the home of this timid teen the last thing that she expected to find was a state of disarray, and yet that was what she was provided with.

Egads, has she been living in squalor?! The outside of this wonderfully charming and none too insubstantial locale seeming to have age to it but also a sense of refinement, while the insides were blessed with plenty of the former, it appeared that they seemed to be entirely devoid of the latter. Any refinement seeming to have been almost wilfully stripped away in what looked to be a static exhibition of untidiness, it was a little alarming for Ellie to see such things really, but the girl took a breath and continued on. After all, she had been in much worse places than this and lived to tell the tale…

“What…? What a lovely home, you have?” The first thing that made an impression upon Ellie was the books that were piled up all over the place, stacks of volumes that seemed enough to make up a library had been erected in pillar-like clusters all over the entryway of the house, and even on the set of stairs that stood nearby. It certainly not the most domesticated image by any stretch of the imagination and certainly not aided by the dust that seemed to cake the interior of this chateau that seemed so charming from the outside, even though the equestrian enchantress did feel a little bit aghast by what she witness, she did not let it show.

“Have you lived here long?” Instead trying to put a polite face on the situation as she followed after the fair femme who had invited her here, while she knew her mother would likely have a strong something to say if she found her own living space in such a torrid state, Miss Cavallero did what she could not to judge this girl. The young woman seeming to be somewhat lacking for servants given the fact that she was forced to answer her own door despite the size of her manor, it was clear that tasks of cleaning had gotten away from her, and the violet eyed visitor almost felt she should ask if she could help her tidy up a bit. However, that seemed like too rude gesture for a guest to offer really, and so despite the mild sense of horror that she felt the flowery femme opted to remain quiet and somewhat guarded in her opinion of the home.

That isn’t something I’d want to work next to… Finally managing to make her way through the somewhat maze-like interior of Luciel’s home to find herself in something that looked equal parts a laboratory and study, though the dark damsel felt a little unnerved by the presence of a cage in the corner that seemed to be occupied by several sizeable rats, she tried not to focus upon it too much. After all, even vermin weren’t so bad if they kept their distance, and hopefully the door that contained them was nice and secure.

The host of our heroine somewhat busy as the black beauty peeled her gaze away from the rodent filled pen and tried to focus on something else in the room, though the habitat of this blonde youngster was somewhat disorganized, it wasn’t without its fascination either. Artefacts dotted around the place, it certainly seemed to have an air of mystery about it as relics and bubbling vials filled with brightly coloured liquids were littered around, each of them separated by a ‘sea’ of pieces of paper upon which inscriptions and diagrams were designed to explain them. Or at least, that was what Ellie assumed.

“Ah, here we go… This is the note I want looking at?”

Luciel seeming to have had just a little bit of trouble in finding the item she wanted help with due to the exaggerated sense of disarray that the room seemed to hold, even when compared to the rest of the house really, after leaving Miss Cavallero with more than a minute to silently inspect the oddities that surrounded her as she rummaged through piles and lifted up tomes, she finally popped back up with a piece of paper that had been weathered with age to a rather sandy shade of yellow. Which was really the first clue as to what the aspiring translator would be dealing with…

Excellent, now let’s see what we’re dealing with here… Eagerly accepting what was offered to her without making much of how it looked at first glance, perhaps the zeal that she felt or the excitement of youth blinded her from seeing the rather obvious fact that what Ellie was dealing with was no simple matter of Minstreli or Joyan lettering, but at the very least whatever it was also prevented her from being deterred for the moment as well. Taking up the note in hand and looking it over carefully, and then carefully again as she tried to make sense of it, despite her enthusiasm and skill in the written word it seemed that the task was going to almost certainly be harder than our heroine though initially.

Cripes, nothing on here looks like the scripts of western nations or the Joyan kanji… The wisteria gaze of the young woman washing over the sheet at least a half dozen times and widening with every occasion that it did, the brow of the black beauty began to brim with sweat drops as she realized her confidence might have been just a little bit misplaced on this occasion, and she could make out not a single word or letter of what she was trying to read. The characters that were presented before her having an odd sense of resemblance to a whole lot of things but at the same time an absolute lack of familiarity, there was no clarity to the script that Miss Cavallero held out in front of her eyes.

I’ve never seen anything like this before? The writing style seeming to be that bit more complicated than the letters used by those in countries like Fiore and Bosco but simpler than the almost artful pictograms used by the cultured nations in the east, they almost like figures dancing upon the page and inscribed with a sense of grace and refinement really. Unfortunately, despite the prettiness she saw, Ellie couldn’t make heads or tails of it though…

“Miss Merlin said the language is ancient, probably called Kartrusian…
And also that the library might have textbooks that could look it up in…
We’re not sure exactly what it says, but it might be an incantation for a spell or old magic?”

Certainly and suddenly feeling somewhat out of her depth, while Miss Caravello was not the type who tended to be very easily discouraged by many things, having had something that she had no compression dropped into her lap she found herself floundering just a little bit. So it was good then that the meek girl nearby seemed to unexpectedly become that bit more talkative, and a whole lot more informative as well.

Katrusian? It seeming to be unclear whether the blonde beside her spotted the level of confusion that Ellie was showing or spoke up for some other reason, but regardless of her reasoning for doing so, the floral femme was glad that she did. Offered a small insight into what she was looking at by the somewhat quiet but on the whole helpful advice she was given by Miss Luciel, as she stared at the strange symbols in front of her the would-be translator made a mental note of the name of the language that the girl mentioned, and was even more thrilled when she was given a clue as to where to look to help her complete her task.

The Library? Well, I would suppose that if anywhere had it, it would be in the capital… A spot of fortune, it would seem? The young woman in front of her scruffy and carrying a certain mystique about her quietness and the somewhat abstract elements of her image but on the whole seeming quite the informative little lady on the whole, after frowning for a second a small smile broke through on the expression of Miss Cavallero, revealing a renewed sense of assurance with it. Daunted by her task when she realized the enormity of it or rather assumed it, with the ample collection that Crocus had at her disposal the dark damsel was sure that she could find a way to get this job to completion. After all, for all of her outdoorsy habits, the equestrian enchantress had never bad at her schoolwork either…

“I see, I see, ancient inscriptions and spells, you say?” The slender digits of the dark dish slipping up to her jaw and a single one of them stroking the space between her lips and jawline softly, as Ellie digested the detail that she had been given by Miss Luciel, she could feel a sense of intrigue and excitement seeming to build up within her like a river that had been dammed by a rogue log. Naturally excited to get a job done as a guild girl but more than that finding a certain sense of fascination with the note and the characters that had been so careful conveyed onto it, the mystery of what was written there was rather thrilling for the teen, and she struggled to contain her elation.

“Now that would be most interesting, would it not?” Certainly handed rather an interesting little exercise for her very first endeavour, with the mention of magic and spells the raven haired rider hummed and her eyes sparkled with her sense of enthusiasm, feeling just as curious about what would be found as the young woman in front of her. Or at least that was what she guessed, given how subdued in her expressions this blonde seemed to be.

“Y-Yes, I would look into it myself but I already have my hands full with a lot of other projects for her that I can’t leave, so I’d really appreciate you doing this for me?
And pay you for your time and work, of course.”

There seeming to be at least a few hints about her words and behaviour that told Miss Cavallero a little something about how the girl felt toward the task, while the tone of Luciel seemed to remain somewhat even and lacking in character as it always did, the slightly flustered manner in which she responded seemed to convey plenty.

She sounds like she’s almost a little bit sad that she has to pass the job on? She must really love this stuff, mustn’t she?  Certainly the signs subtle but the black haired beauty seeming to sense almost a degree of disappointment in the general manner of her client that she did not have an opportunity right now to tend to the task, the young lady with the lilac eyes guessed quickly that this was down to her desire to get to the heart of the matter herself, and was certainly sensitive to her interest and haste because of it…

“Well, you can count on it! I’ll have this back to you in three shakes of a rabbit’s tail!” Clenching her fist with excitement as she assessed her task and found it one that seemed to give her an odd sense of academic thrill, the zeal that the teen felt was more than evident in her manner as she tried to assure her client of her speedy success, which was something that felt a necessity given how disappointed the girl had seemed she would not be able to carry out this task herself.

Excellent. The job will be harder than I thought, but that only means I shall be that much better for doing it! Understanding that sentiment perfectly in one way or another, with her own excitement at the task overflowing Ellie could only imagine how the owner of the note must have been feeling in the same place. Sensing that this was a perfect opportunity to help herself grow a bit and prove herself while doing so, the young rider loved a challenge and would certainly have been somewhat disappointed to be deprived of one that seemed as tasty as this one did, and as such thought she understood why the blonde showed that hint of dismay to her. However, the girl was not always correct in her assessments.

I wonder if Mr Gilbert does this sort of thing a lot? He seems the cultured sort who would be good at it… Not guessing in the moment that perhaps this task and her failure to find time for it had more to do with a topic that would hit her far closer to home than she would ever realize, it was perfectly possible that much like Miss Cavalerro’s want to impress the man who had saved her life as a girl, Luciel wished to do much the same.
Maybe he’ll be impressed when I finish this, if he is? The floral femme seeming to be a little bit too preoccupied with her own fantasies and ambitions toward admiration to notice this of course, she remained blissfully ignorant of any possibility that she might have far more in common with this slim teen than she might have ever imagined, and instead found herself falling into the old trap of her fantasies again instead…

“Yes, um, well… I better get back to other things?”

The realm of imagination such a blissful place to enjoy when one was accompanied by Mister Gilbert, while she wasn’t quite sure of how many seconds or perhaps even minutes had passed as she daydreamed about getting a head pat and kind word from her idol, the colour in her cheeks told Ellie that she might have been lingering there just a bit too long as she found herself being returned to the waking world by the words of Luciel. The girl standing there and looking just a little but uncomfortable now that the task had been passed along, for a second the raven haired rider felt like she was a little girl who had been caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar, and that almost childish degree of fright made her cheeks burn and heart race as she gave a fast reply to show she was paying attention.

“O-Oh! Of course, of course…” Never finding she could place her finger upon exactly why she experienced such a sense of guilt over being caught in a daydream-made union with her manly mentor but guessing it had something to do with their difference in age, Miss Cavallero readily recalled the occasions in her youth when she had declared that she would marry the man one day and found snickers and chuckles being sent to her in response, and also found herself lacking for comprehension for why that occurred as well.
“It would be best to get on, wouldn’t it?” Totally in love with that hunk of a hero and his noble nature certainly meaning he was the sort a girl would do well to marry, why was a decade or two in age so much of a big deal with people?

“I’ll head to the library and be back before you know it!” Getting over her embarrassment rather quickly really, while there were times when Miss Cavallero might have made herself something of a clown, she was on the whole quick to forgive others and herself and so was not customarily held toward dwelling upon her failures for any terribly long spell. Not only that but also having the kind of healthy level of respect and esteem for herself that meant the odd little chip did not make much of a difference to her, before long she would have likely forgotten about her little faux pas of fantasy and that made it easy for her to recover.

“I hope you much success in the meantime of course, farewell Miss Luciel.” Classy to the last of course and offering a proper form of goodbye to the blonde even as the girl began to busy herself with the tasks that were waiting for her, after waving herself away the floral femme embarked on her first challenge in the task ahead, but thankfully it would not prove a difficult one for a girl like her. The house that she would exit a little maze-like but Ellie always possessing a healthy sense of direction, it was essential for any rider really and an apt sense of special memory afforded her an easy path back to the front door of the cluttered abode of her client.

Now onto the Library… I’m sure I can ask someone along the way where it is? Embracing her task with no small amount of gusto of course, even as she exited the home of Miss Luciel and realized that she was still getting her bearings around the none too small capital of the nation, the black beauty did not feel particularly daunted even with regard to her lack of familiarity of her surroundings. Finding her way to the home of the girl without much trouble and that feeling like much more of a haystack needle than something as prominent as the Crocus Library, with a little luck and some swift hooves the girl knew she would be there in no time, and then the real work would begin…

“Eeeeasy Roci, I think we’re here…” Pulling back on her reigns gently but firmly as she reached a large and open square, Miss Cavallero cooed gently as she urged the fine, chocolatey coloured steed she was upon into a gentle little trot as she passed through. Getting no shortage of strange looks as she did so of course given the fact that it was generally considered a little uncouth to ride a horse around the streets, the black beauty noticed none of the stares and scowls she received either in the square now or the streets before, and had been rather ignorant to other things as well.

Galloping along because of her zeal for the task that awaited her, she thought little of the moments where she had almost clipped and run into folk or thrown herself and her horse over fences to make a shortcut through peoples gardens, showing without shame that while one can take the girl out of the country, the matter of taking the country out of the girl was rather more of a challenge. However, with any luck, people would forget their brushes with irritation and injury quite quickly.

“Heeheehee, you’ve done very well, I know crowds aren’t your favourite thing…” The floral femme seeming to be far more interested in the welfare of her mount more than anything as she led the large and strong animal through the square at a sedate pace now, though her eyes remained somewhat transfixed upon the building which she assumed was the library, Ellie leant forward and gently petted her partner to offer a little thanks for the calmness that her horse had shown.
“I shouldn’t be too long, hopefully? Try to stay out of trouble…” Certainly appreciative of the ride she had been given as she slipped from the saddle in a graceful fashion and rested her head on the white diamond that decorated the brow of her pretty pony, she let out a little sigh and then bound her beast to a rather artsy looking fountain before heading toward her objective and marvelling at what she saw…

Gosh, I had expected it to be large, but this is more than I had ever imagined? The handsome horsey she had rode secure behind her, Ellie couldn’t help but gape just a little bit as she looked toward the target that she sought, feeling rather astounded by the simple size of the structure that she aimed for. A girl who came from a nice little town in the middle of nowhere, the largest buildings that she had seen were her own stately home and probably the nearest church of Illumin, but even these seemed to pale in volume compared to what she saw.

And yet, it has a sense of refinement, and class? A massive building in front of her that looked just as old and ornate as it appeared to be large, as Miss Cavallero drew nearer to it she could see the fine level of architecture that some ancient craftsman must have put into the place, with the gigantic structure possessing little charm points and flourishes that told a person it was about more than simple function.
I can see why it seems to be so well known around town… Decorated with sculptures and featuring giant windows that made it look as if it was half built from glass alone, whilst most of these were blank and likely designed to let as much light into the venue as possible to aid the readers inside, the odd one or two were more decorative and lavish in their image.

After the palace and Cathedral, it’s probably the grandest structure around? The stained portions making up images of angelic looking scholars who carried glowing tomes seeming to be particularly charming, had she not known she was walking into a library the girl could have assumed she was walking into a place of faith and religion, but she knew better and because of that the images seemed more informative here. Knowledge seeming to be the deity worshipped by this particular temple, as she let her violet gaze wash over the loveliness of the Library’s features, Ellie couldn’t help but feel even more relish at the fact that she was going to be treated to a nice spell here…

I wonder if the inside is just as lavish?  Spending no short amount of time simply gazing up at the grand ‘face’ of the building as if she was a tourist or something, which technically was probably true, after affording herself a nice ample opportunity to marvel and the magnificence of the exterior Miss Cavallero stepped inside and hoped for more of the same, and she was not disappointed.

Incredible…! A grand and almost mystical creation hanging from the ceiling in the entrance way, the first thing that the flowery femme was treated to as she stepped inside the library seemed to be a representation of the world and the celestial bodies that surrounded it, all suspended from the ceiling in a glowing and vibrant form. Certainly some form of magic at work in this artistic sculpture, small stretches of smoky fog whirled around a big blue pearl that was ever changing in nature and seemed to represent the planet on which they stood, and around it was even more.

It’s like they’re dancing… Waltzing with one another with Earthland as their dancefloor? A brightly glowing ball of golden colour seeming to cruise around in opposition to one that was more silvery in colour, the most charming point about this sun and moon pairing was the fact that the latter seemed to change depending on where it was positioned to reflect the cycles of the lunar satellite, but Ellie could not tell whether that was because of magic or simple clever artistry in the design. Whatever the reason it making for an elegant little dance, the impact of the duo was so enticing and almost hypnotising, that the lilac eyes of the lady almost missed something more subtle beyond them, which would have been a shame if she had…

So focused on the brightly whirling couplet that she almost overlooked the diamond-like stars that seemed to have been painted into the dark ceiling beyond the centrepiece trio, after spending more than a few seconds gazing adoringly up to what had been so artistically arranged Ellie found her eye being caught by a tiny little twinkle, and all too quickly realized that the sun and moon were blessed with plenty of ‘children’. Diamonds seeming to litter the very ceiling but a closer inspection telling one that they actually seemed to be hovering just beneath it, the black beauty gaped at the splendour she saw above her and clutched her hand to her chest, not even noticing as people passed by her in either direction as she stood there in a state of semi-hypnosis at the allure of this piece of art.

“I see that you are enjoying ‘The Matter of Heaven and Earth’, young lady…”

Roused only from her admiration of the creation that clung to the ceiling above when a loud and somewhat oaky sounding voice seemed to address her from behind, as someone spoke to her back the black beauty found herself just a little bit startled because of how much she had been focusing on the surface above her head, and spun around to see who it was who had interrupted her.
Scared the life out of me…! Alarmed but by no means angry as her heart pounded that much quicker because of her fright, though she carried redness in her cheeks as she turned, she was not about to lash out at the person who had spoken in such a crisp but not aggressive fashion. In fact, as she analysed the words of the stranger, they actually seemed rather polite as well…

“It was created and presented to the library almost two hundred years ago by the Lord Melchoir, an advisor to Queen Rosidian and great patron to this library?”

Turning around to see an old man with a white beard who seemed to have lost none of his momentum for how flustered she had been by the interruption, an elderly fellow of clear refinement and experience was waiting with a soft smile and his gaze held aloft to the objet d’art above them as his explanation continued, not letting onto whether or not he had even realized Ellie had turned around or cared for it either. This calmness he showed and the sense of priority he gave for his message and admiration for the art appeared to almost have a soothing quality about it, the lilac lady found the speed in her heart rate subsided almost immediately because of it, and she also could not help but get drawn into what he described as well.

“It is rather lovely… A real piece of prestige for a place like this to boast of?” Finding that she had been fascinated by the magical sculpture that paraded around the ceiling from the moment that she had seen in, and in a way even somewhat surprised that the other people in this entranceway were not, Miss Cavallero was more than happy to engage the old man in this shared admiration of the object. Rarely daunted by folk regardless of their age or experience and having just a hint of a soft spot for the discerning older gentleman, in a way the girl found herself instantly enthusiastic about the chance to impress someone who from the get go seemed a rather sophisticated individual to her, and cast her appreciative gaze upward to join that of the stranger.

“In fact, one would expect to find something of this ilk in a gallery rather than a library?” This her bread and butter really, while she was perhaps happiest riding around fields and plains on her horse seeking out challenges, the realm of conversation was where a well-educated woman of brimming self-esteem could really blossom, and she was more than happy to show that fact as well…

“You may be right there.”

The old man in front of her seeming to pause just long enough that Miss Cavallero’s gaze fell down to check that he was still there, as the lavender eyes of the young lady fell onto the form of this aged stranger, she found him stroking his beard in a fashion that seemed thoughtful and just a little bit misty eyed.

“There are many these days believe it should belong in a gallery or museum, but the Lord was such an enthusiast to this place that he stated in his will that it remain here as long as the Library does?”

The old man certainly seeming to take the comment of our prim protagonist with no small amount of consideration, while at first the floral femme might have thought she had offended the old man with how quiet he had gotten, she was relieved to hear he was simply taking the time to offer a measured reply to her.

I’ve never heard of him, but this Lord Melchoir sounds like quite the fine fellow so far… This unknown elder seeming to not be the type who seemed to launch whatever first popped into his mind into the room, in many ways the young woman in front of him appreciated that careful approach, as well as the wisdom and informative nature of his reply.
“Sounds like the man had a great influence on this library…” Perhaps a little more rash in her own conversational options because of her youth but by no means lacking for intellectual involvement either, though she hadn’t walked into the library expecting a little lesson in its history, it certainly was neither unwelcome or uninteresting all the same.

“He must have been very fond of the place?” A stranger to the place and feeling like she had quite accidentally bumped into a figure who could act as her very own impromptu instructor and tour guide, despite her outdoorsy habits and fondness for excitement and adventure Ellie had always proven something of an apt student, especially with teachers who could stimulate her attention and interest. This man certainly having such a capacity in spades, despite the fact that she had a task to attend to the black beauty was happy to engage him, expecting she would be a happier and better woman for doing so…

“Oh my yes, he was said to have come from nothing and worked his way to lordship all through the ‘lessons’ that he learned in this library, and spent much of his life giving back to the community as well.”

Their conversation quickly getting into full flow, while the unknown elder’s thoughtful nature seemed to mean that their chat would feature a few noticeable pauses in them as he gathered his thoughts and facts together so as to provide the most apt answer that he could, it felt none the less rewarding for it.

“During the period, many mages of Crocusi origin spread out to gain their own renown, and most claim to have found their footing in magic thanks to the lessons and notes of Melchoir…”

The pair seeming to naturally and almost unknowingly skirt over to one side of the entrance to avoid the thoroughfare that hustled in and out of the library as things got off to a proper start, despite the length and wordiness of the answers that the stranger gave her Ellie did not feel like she was being overwhelmed or struggling to keep up with the conversation one bit.

He seems to really know his stuff? This old man seeming to have the kind of tempo and clearness in the concepts he espoused that reminded her of a college professor, without a clue of who he was at this point, the girl would have guessed he would have educated wealthy and aristocratic children in his younger years, and possibly still did now. Almost wishing she herself had him as a teacher when she was younger, while her father always did hire pretty decent tutors and governesses as she was being brought up, Miss Cavallero couldn’t help but wonder just how much more polished she might have become under the influence of this man.

“It seems like you are rather fond of him as well?” The sense of passion that this silver senior seemed to possess as clear as spring water in the words he seemed to choose so very carefully, it seemed like he showed the same degree of zeal in what he discussed as the girl herself did when she thought about horses or her flower magic. Or maybe even as much fire as she boasted when talking of Mr Gilbert as well…

“Oh absolutely, he was a potent but wise man with great compassion, hard not to respect and admire?”

Of course the manner of this scholarly stranger not that of an excitable teenage girl but rather a statesman who simply loved the subject matter, with his calm, collected and considered bearing the enchanting equestrian found the little lecture she was given quite the joy to behold and also something that was a little difficult to tear herself away from as well. The words he spoke careful and informative, and the way in which he said them seeming like it was profound and important, it was difficult to not get a little caught up with the quiet and flawlessly well-mannered zeal that he showed. However, that was not all that the man seemed to demonstrate either.

It almost sounds as if he knew him personally? A subtle something about the way in which the stranger seemed to speak feeling like it had just a hint of personal familiarity not only with the topic but rather the person that it involved, the floral femme couldn’t help but wear just a hint of a frown as she noticed that speculative fact, wondering if it was merely a trick of an educator or rather something more at work there. Naturally any good storyteller capable of making it feel like not only were they at the event they described but you were too, though this would have been an easy explanation for what Ellie witnessed, there was something about the frank and thoughtful manner of the man that made him seem all the more sincere in everything he said and did.

But that’s impossible, right? Even if he does look old, this ‘Melchoir’ lived two centuries ago…  Perhaps it the trick of a magician but one that could be in one way considered far more skilled in their art than any who commanded elements and mystical forces, while the black beauty was reasonably sure that the bearded man was not somehow a good couple of hundred old, she could not be quite sure. Doubt had been sewn within her doubt, and that meant she could not decide one way, or another…

“Goodness me, my lady, where are my manners?
It seems I have failed to introduce myself, I am Osmund, the head librarian…”

The suspicion that the femme felt over the issue of the age and involvement of the man before her feeling like something that she did not have to share for this stranger to notice, as Miss Cavallero found herself questioning these facts, the old soul in front of her seemed as if he sensed her internal struggle and opted to skirt around the subject. Electing to offer his name and a job title that certainly made sense given his level of knowledge and experience, as the silver senior gave up a greeting at last the girl before him couldn’t help but get the weird feeling he might just be changing the subject in order to distract her, and alas would be left wondering about whether or not he had celebrated a bicentenary at some point.

“O-Oh, yes. I have shown equal rudeness really.” The young woman to whom this potential becentenarian was speaking far too polite to raise the issue in any direct and meaningful way however, while she was somewhat curious about confirming the truth of the matter really, the black haired beauty was far too practiced in her etiquette of exchange to broach the issue and instead returned both the implied apology and introduction that she received rather eagerly.

“I’m Ellie, Ellie Cavallero.” The floral femme flicking her dark locks to one side subtly before extending her hand to the man in front of her who was apparently known as Osmund like any civilized person should have done, she offered up her own name in response to the demonstration of denomination, and was glad to see that the gesture was returned. It always nice to see someone show their manners really, while the privileged lifestyle that the teen had led up to this point had meant that those who couldn’t offer a correct form of greeting were rare, that only meant that they stood out all the more to her in retrospect…
