Don’t you worry darling

She almost dropped the clothing from the drycleaners and looked around. She could have sworn she heard someone speak to her but there was no one here. She took a step backwards and looked around, not only on the street but also on the houses above her, someone at the windows or balconies? It made no sense because it had felt as if someone was whispering in her ear. She would leave it be, basically because it was a one thing, although not that she thought about it; she had heard it before. Some talking in her head; some other way of going on and some different way of thinking. But she didn’t think about it right now, she simply took the clothes better in her hand and with a quick stepped hurried back to her room in the inn. She had not noticed anyone on the street, the idea of being alone while the sun was already going down and while hearing voices you couldn’t retrace; it was better to stay inside for now. She said a short hello to the person behind the desk in the inn’s lobby and hurried up the stairs. She forgot the mess of her room. It was mostly clothing, and right now; clean clothes only. It was stupid how she kept changing her mind about what to do. But she simply was homesick and she knew that; she had ran away back home from Marigold before.

She frowned, perhaps that’s what she should do; she should head to Marigold for the time being because no one of her friends seemed to be here in Magnolia anyway and if she was in Marigold, she would go home after that. She would finish what she started, meet up with this Alice Nightingale and give her a piece of mind. She had disliked her so much and her bossing around, actresses. Thinking they were way better than other people because they had a talent well Phoebe could have a talent as well. The question only was: what would it be. She took a thick sweater that she had for some reason and pulled it over her head. She needed to shower, she was dirty but it was way too cold with those tiles in the bathroom. She held up her hand and tried to summon a little flame to keep her warm but nothing appeared. Not even a popping sound which happened when she was too tired or out of focus to create a flame in general. She frowned and looked at her hand but she also didn’t feel any magical energy surround it. This was new, it felt as if she had no magic at all.

don’t you worry darling.

She jumped up from her bed where she had sat on; she heard it again. And she was a hundred percent sure no one else was in this room because it was her room! And she was alone and what the hell was happening!

She did look around in the bedroom, she looked in the room attached to it and even if she didn’t like it, she made her way into the cold tiled bathroom to see if someone was there but that was impossible, because she heard it as if someone whispered it in her ear or said it in her own mind but it wasn’t her own voice and it wasn’t her own thinking as it had interrupted her own track of thoughts. She shook her head, she was imagining things; it must be herself trying to calm herself down. She wouldn’t call herself darling but hey if it worked. It clearly didn’t work as she was more worried than before she told it to herself but she simply decided now that she was already standing in the bathroom that it couldn’t harm to actually shower. Her feet already felt this burning cold from the cold tiles and she would suggest to the inn that they use those special towels for on the ground or so in the bathroom. To not get cold feet in the middle of the winter. She dropped the sweater she was wearing on the little stool that was standing in the bathroom and dropped the rest of her clothes on the ground in one of the corners. She would wait for the water to be warm enough, but normally she could handle hot water quite well, but right now half way through the normal temperature it was her hot enough so she stepped underneath the warm water and shivered again as she felt colder than before. She would wait a bit; till she felt warmer and until she felt able to be moving around again. When that point happened she would start washing her hair with the shampoo and in the end soap her body and wait a couple of more minutes until she was done with the shower. She kept repeating the words: don’t you worry darling, in her mind but it didn’t sound the same for some reason. She decided to give it up for now and simply stepped out of the shower and grabbed two towels as quick as possible. In the first one she wrapped her long black hair to dry it over time and the other one she dried herself with and wrapped around her. She picked up the sweater from the stool, checked her reflection shortly and headed back towards the bedroom where she put the heater higher.

She took a deep breath and dropped herself on the bed after she wiggled the sweater on. She was tired of swinging the tongs around and her arms were complaining every time she moved them up but she would not sleep yet. She had to figure something out. She lifted her hand up, ignoring the complains from her muscles and she narrowed her eyes to stare at the palm of her hand. She tried to release the magical energy but nothing happened again.

In the end no matter how hard Phoebe stared and tried to summon power, nothing happened and she had fallen asleep; exhausted about trying and trying. She was very disappointed but that didn’t change anything, it didn’t change that the voice in her mind wasn’t her own. It didn’t change that her magic was gone and that she still had no idea what to do. She woke up in the morning and was glad that she had put the heater on because she still felt a little cold. It was the whole thought that her fire magic had left her that she couldn’t phantom but that could explain why she felt so cold. Perhaps she wasn’t getting a cold, she was just losing her magical ability to control fire and thus heat of her body. Perhaps she should see a doctor but she didn’t feel sick apart from exhausted. Perhaps it would return to her within a couple of days. In the mean time she should keep herself busy, so she decided to get dressed in some warm clothing, and perhaps she should shop for a few warm sweaters for the upcoming days that she would have to survive. She only imagined the jumpsuit that she had worn weeks ago on the date with King and that was a cold outfit, she wouldn’t be able to wear it right now. She simply put on a pair of jeans, her high boots and a clean sweater. She would fix her hair which was a whole disaster after falling asleep, the towel had fallen off in the end but her hair had made a knot of itself and it took a couple of minutes before she got that all out. She would take the key of her room and head down to get something to eat. She should definitely shop, perhaps get a better coat and the like to survive these couple of days. She tried to count while sitting downstairs how much jewels she would have to left to be able to spend on clothing. Calculating that she would have to pay rent for this month as well, unless she was leaving sooner of course. She had no idea yet or well she had the idea, it wasn’t only sure if she kept up with that; knowing her it would change soon enough again. She took a deep breath and shook her head as she ordered some breakfast. She should go to a place where lots of people were because that would make everything more interesting.

She waited shortly for her breakfast and coffee to be brought and she would eat, consider and in the end finish her food. She took the coffee, which was in a to go cup, with her upstairs. She should wait for a couple of days to see what was going on and thus she would just try to do a couple of more jobs. It wasn’t so necessary for the money but it would sure get her active.

There was this icy wind when Phoebe came outside, she was going to try and find a better coat because this would feel as if she was going to freeze to death. She looked around in the centre of Magnolia in the stores that were on opposite sides of the streets but nothing much that she liked. She couldn’t actually get too picky right now but this fake leather jacket didn’t keep her too warm, it was far too short for that and too tight perhaps as well. But she walked another round, it also kept her warm and she bumped into someone that looked like a captain, ”Hello, are you perhaps interested in joining the knights?” she blinked in surprise at the man, he seemed to be a bit distracted and well going straight to the point with that question, ”Eh, no, not really. I don’t say I would qualify right now.” and the man looked her up and down, which was highly annoying. He explained what he was doing and trying to do and asked her if she wouldn’t want to help him, it didn’t have much to do with qualifying at the moment but it sure would help him out. And since she had said that, he was sure that she would know what person would qualify for becoming a knight. She shrugged and accepted the quest, she would head to the park and do the job that he required from her there.

She would walk around because that would keep her warm and talk to a couple of people, she tried every person that she thought would be a friendly one, one striving to reach a goal for either protection, getting better or something like that. Which was something she simply pictured and didn’t know. Of course most denied but there were also quite a few that wouldn’t mind to try out and she wrote down their names and addresses in a booklet that she thank god had brought with her. She would go on for a long time but finally when it was starting to get dark she headed back to the place where she met Guard Captain Devon and she found him a few feet away from where she had bumped into him, she handed him the list and he thanked her, he handed her a decent amount of money which made her hurry up to go towards one of the stores that was still open and buy a coat. After all this was extra money, she should definitely not have it in her calculations and that was enough money back in the inn. She felt a lot warmer with this black coat that she had just bought and put on and she could walk back to the inn. Perhaps she could figure something more out, she walked past a bookstore and wondered if she would buy a book with the left over money that she had, something about magic lessons? If only she could talk to King about this.
