Another bout with the pirates [C-rank] Empty Tue Aug 15, 2023 11:36 am

Pirates, they will never learn. It seemed that after her recent encounter with a crew of pirates that the aforementioned crew had been sighted once more near the Azure beach. This had annoyed the dragon girl a great deal, because she had gone out of her way to make certain that the pirates from last time were clearly aware of the consequences of continuing their dastardly villainous ways. Had she not been clear enough on the matter? Or did they not take her warning seriously?

Heaving a sigh the dragon girl listened to the civilians complain how they couldn't enjoy a nice stroll down the beach anymore. Clearly it was time for her to take a trip back to the pirates their lair again.

However, first she would go back to the butcher to order some of these delicious meat kebabs again. It would do her no good to go on an adventure while being hungry! That were the two precautions everyone needed to take when going on an adventure! Never go on an adventure when you're Hungry or Horny. That was a golden rule of the adventurer's guild. And so the dragon girl departed toward the beach.

Fortunately, she didn't need to wait long before she arrived at the beach. Perhaps it was her stride or the fact time seemed to pass so quickly when she was enjoying the kebab sticks, but it felt like only a few minutes had passed since she arrived at the beach.

As expected there were far fewer people around now that rumors of pirates had started to worry the citizen, the fact they were unable to enjoy the peaceful weather agitating her slightly. All because of these greedy pirates... This time she was determined not to make the same mistake again! She would ensure these foolish criminals would spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Approaching the edge of the beach she started to get closer to the location she had previously found the pirates at, but oddly enough there was no sight of them around the area. Could it be that they were members of a different pirate crew? That certainly would explain why they had ignored her warning.

As she ventured deeper she arrived at what seemed to be an inland cove, hidden away from the port of Hargeon and to her surprise several boats were pulled over at the edge of the rocks. Could it be that this was a hidden camp? Or were they looking for something?

She had to admit that she wasn't exactly the best as subtility, and sneaking around wasn't her forte either. Even more curious was the fact she had yet to see any of the pirates. Further inward there was a cave of sorts, and Ryuko could only imagine that it was where the pirates had been hiding. As such her next choice of action was already made clear for her: to investigate the cave!

Approaching the cave she tried to keep her steps as light as possible to give her somewhat of an element of surprise, but it seemed that was an unnecessary precaution for when she walked deeper into the cave she spotted one of the pirates lying unconscious on the ground.

Hesitatingly she snuck toward them, a cursory glance revealing the pirate had been fighting someone, as they had several claw-like markings on their body and the scent of burnt clothing lingered. Perhaps from flames?

What a peculiar situation she found herself in. But nonetheless she continued her advance, threading deeper into the darkness till she arrived at what seemed to be the camp of the pirates. An entire group of them was lying on the ground, some of them injured, others downright slain. Who could possibly have done this?

In the end Ryuko stopped near one of the few pirates who had still been conscious, his eyes looking like he was on the brink of fainting as well, but recognizing her he couldn't help but smile weakly. "Heh... you again? I warned my pals about you... it's why we went to search for treasure here instead of pillaging villages. But that proved to be useless when 'they' took our treasure."

Curious about who the person they mentioned was Ryuko felt her eye stir, a echo of the past entering her mind like a vision.

The pirate was standing with a blade in his hand, pointing it hesitatingly at the hooded figure who was holding a small golden box in his hand. "This doesn't belong in the hands of mere mortals." The figure muttered, yet as the pirate dashed forward with his sword swinging upwards the hooded figure suddenly swept something from underneath the cloak, and before the pirate could react they were knocked onto their back.

The hooded figure stepped past the pirate, a glint of silver revealing a medalion of sorts that was shaped like a dragon?"

The echo ended just as quickly as it came, leaving Ryuko to ponder about its contents as the pirate had already fainted.

So many questions: Who was that hooded figure? What was that golden box that he had taken from the pirates, and more importantly what was inside it? And finally, why was he wearing a medallion that had the emblem of a dragon? Questions keep piling themselves up as Ryuko left the cave, pondering on her next course of action. For now it seemed to be in her best interest to return to Hargeon and warn the Rune Knights about the cave. Maybe they had a better idea on how to deal with the injured pirates. However, even as she returned to Hargeon she couldn't dispel the thoughts about the medallion. Where had she seen such an emblem before? Also something about the hooded figure bothered her immensely. Not their power persay, or the fact their identity was concealed. No, it was their voice. It sounded oddly familiar, and yet she couldn't place a name onto the voice. It was as if she had heard them before but didn't know their identity and that by itself frustrated her immensely. Unfortunately, there was not much she could do for the time being, so instead Ryuko decided to make her way back to the city to ponder her next action...
