Finally. A ray of light in this abyss of despair. With the two girls freed from their restrains Claudia was the first to take action, picking up the keyring of the guard and turned toward Lily. "Let us try to avoid as many confrontations. The longer it takes for them to realize we're free the better."

Lily nodded her head firmly at these words, leading to the two girls to sneak their way out of the room that held their cells. At first it appeared the duo had arrived in a long corridor. From what she remembered the far end of that corridor led to the laboratories were they conducted these gruesome experiments. However, halfway through the corridor was a large door, likely leading into a different section of the shrine, and as such the duo sneakily approached the aforementioned door. Claudia was the one going first, opening it slightly to peek inside. It seemed nobody was in sight, and so the two made their way through the door. It was a spacious hall, likely some sort of dining area considering the large amount of tables and seats around them.

Of course, now was not the time for sightseeing, and as such the duo quickly continued onwards in their attempt to reach freedom.

Once they sneaked past the dining area they came in room, this one however seemingly was not entirely abandoned. There had been a cultist seated on a bench with his back facing the duo. It was clear that he was oblivious to their presence, but Claudia wasn't going to take any risks. If they could avoid a confrontation then they would have to sneak past him. Sneakily stepping around the opposite side to avoid being spotted by the cultist the duo walked quietly into the next room and peered around. "I know this place..." Claudia muttered softly. "See that big door at the end of these stairs? That leads into the inner sanctum. If we go past that room I believe we will be nearing the big hall they took us through when we first arrived at the shrine."

Lily nodded her head attentively as she followed Claudia toward the staircase, attempting to remain as quiet as possible. However, when Claudia opened the door and stepped inside the room Lily couldn't help but notice that further ahead a massive crystal was floating in the air. It was gigantic, reminding her of the same crystal she saw in Esperia's throne room. But there was something different about it...

Indeed, this crystal lacked any luster, no shine or brilliance what made it look more eerily instead of beautiful to her. But nonetheless, Claudia's gentle tug along her hand made Lily quietly follow after her. "Odd... Usually there are some guards here, I wonder if something has driven them away from this room." The whisper of her friend worried Lily. If there was normally a guard stationed here, then why would they be gone? Could there be a possible reason for it? Surely, they weren't about to walk into a trap, right? Shaking her head as if trying to erase her doubt Claudia continued to sneak past the pillars and toward the door leading into the inner sanctum and opened it. She could almost see it. It was just a little further, they only needed to sneak past this big hall and then they would reach that corridor that would lead out of the shrine. Their freedom was so close!

Claudia moved once more, gently guiding Lily along as the two girls arrived at the gateway leading outside when suddenly... 'ping...' a thud followed as both girls staggered backwards after having bumped into the massive invisible wall. "A barrier?" Claudia whispered in frustration, yet Lily couldn't help but shake off that lingering fear: something was about to go horribly wrong.

Claudia turned toward her, clearly distressed. "Lily, can you try punching that barrier with all your strength?" The question sounded outlandish for the girl "Won't they find us then?" But Claudia shook her head firmly. "We have no other choice, I'll try to cast a spell to muffle the sound of the barrier breaking, and after that we run with all our might."

Lily nodded her head firmly, taking a fighting stance while pulling an arm backwards as she heard Claudia mutter an incantation. She remembered Esperia's words. Her magic was one that relied upon emotion, one that turned emotion into strength. As such she tried to remember the pain she felt, the sadness and terrifying feelings that the experiments had caused. And then it happened. Her body became coated in a violent golden aura as she lunged her fist forward, the jab cleanly piercing through the barrier as she turned to look back at Claudia. "Let's go!"

Claudia nodded her head, the two of them rushing along the gateway as the exit came into view. The duo could already see the sunlight up ahead, filling Lily with a warmth of hope as they reached the exit, turning to look at Claudia she called out. "C-Claudia?" She asked, when all of a sudden her friend tackled her onto the ground!

What initially turned from surprise turned toward dread when she saw a stream of flames scorching above them, the flames still brushing along Claudia's back who was using herself as a shield for the smaller elf. Even if she tried to be brave, she could see the pain in Claudia's expression as the flames finally flickered down and the girl collapsed sideways next to her.

"And where do 'you' think you're going?"

A masculine voice called out to her, causing Lily to look up as a shocking sight revealed itself. Surrounding the duo from all sides were row after row of robed cultists, a small group of them wearing different colored robes stood at the center with at the front a single elderly man.

Claudia groaned lightly, trying to suppress the pain as she climbed back onto her feet and took a step before Lily, spreading her arms in a defiant attempt to protect the girl. "It's the leader of these sickos... 'Father' they call him..."

Hearing these words caused the elderly man to chuckle in amusement. "Is that a case of the pot calling the kettle black? For I think you're the last ones to judge anyone: Monsters."
