"What do you mean? Mastery over death is the realm of Lich's and-"

"Devils?" The voice came from within Jove's mind, a mockingly similar baritone to himself. The fusion of their souls had been incomplete, done intentionally to ensure Jove remained in control. However, that didn't mean that similarities wouldn't form. Among these were Lucifer's voice taking on many characteristics of his host, though the inflection and condescension certainly ensured that he would remain sounding different. The similarities were enough that he still found irritation at his own voice speaking down to him, though.

"Besides, it isn't mastery over death. More like a mild resistance? It's a type of power that manifests itself subconsciously within your mana, and made possible in part due to my own capabilities. Since I'm fused with you, you should be able to utilize it to a degree." The two of them got along fairly well, aside from the disdain over one another's attitude and tones. Jove remained sitting in the grass, arms crossed as he took in all this new information. It sounded like it could potentially be useful, but he'd need to pursue it more to find out.

Jove sat with his arms and legs crossed, head tilted forward and eyes closed firmly. The furrowing of his brow and wrinkles of his forehead indicated that he was lost deep in thought. The words of Lucifer were enticing. While people had talked of Devils often trying to tempt humans down the wrong path, he highly doubted that this was the demons plan. Lucifer had a sense of pride that made Jove fully understand why he was considered the embodiment of it. To pull such tactics would be beneath him. Rather, if that were his goal, he'd likely tell Jove exactly what to do, what would happen, and explain why it would be an honor for him.

Instead, it seemed like the demon was rather mellow at the moment. Lucifer had explained to him that it was due to his interest in Jove's continued development, whatever that meant. "You're a strange little creature. Quite different than most of your kind. It's entertaining enough just seeing you attempt to fit your reality into your warped sense of reason." It wasn't that he didn't understand what Lucifer meant by this, but still those words popped into his mind every time he tried to focus back on the situation at hand.

Jove's eyes opened slowly, and he raised his hand to the bridge of his nose. Gently grabbing the connector to his sunglasses, he'd remove them and fold the arms over on themselves. Tucking the eyewear into his chest pocket, he'd stand. A chuckle emanated from deep within his psyche, with Lucifer more than capable of understanding what the decision was. After all, the two were a close to a single identity as a pair could become without actually fusing together. So instead of speaking his decision out loud, Jove merely asked the question.

"So, how do I do this?" Laughter rang out from within his head as Lucifer instructed him on how to properly attain this power. The explanation was long winded, and at the end of it Jove merely nodded his head. "Understood... I have a place in mind then." With that, Jove left from where he had been resting and made his way through the woods. Eventually he came to the entrance of a cave. This entrance was immensely tall, going up the side of a cliff face, but not that wide.

"This is where you'll do it, huh?"

"Yup."

And with that, Jove made his way within. This cave was famous for having different clans of high level subterranean beasts. Jove uttered a single word as he was fully engulfed in its darkness.

Transforming, Jove's appearance took on similarities to Lucifer's. Wings from his back, horns from his head, hair elongating and his canines sharpening. His nails grew out like claws, and suddenly the mild mannered businessman looked like monster from old biblical tales. Due to the contract that was signed, his personality remained entirely unchanged during this transformation. That said, the interactions was rather odd. It was as if he were in a room that was filled with other people, and all of these people were of the same level of energy and excitement. Even if he himself wasn't the type to feel that way, it'd be difficult to not be effected at all.

Perhaps that reason was why Jove's head was tilted upwards, chest puffed out, and a level of confidence in his steps that bordered cockiness. He wouldn't be this way if he was fighting for efficiency, but that wasn't what he had been told. According to Lucifer, he needed to go out and fight quite literally to the death. However, he couldn't merely allow himself to die. He had to struggle with all his might. Knowing the outcome, he decided there was no reason ruing it.

As the cave continued to wind, Jove pushed his mana out and allowed it to concentrate into tendrils. This allowed for light throughout the cave, guiding his steps and leading him deeper into the depths. This should grab their attention. As much as the creatures who lived below the earth detested the sun, they found a sense of curiosity towards light. They would likely be drawn towards him like moths to a flame. With that in mind, Jove forced out a tremendous web of mana to ensure he lit up as much as he could. It would only be a matter of time now.

And sure enough, he was right. He head footsteps echoing through the cave in great number. Perhaps it was the reverberation, but it sounded as if an entire army was heading towards him. At this point, Jove decided to prep as much as possible. Magic circles began to appear in rapid succession as he pushed out massive debuffs, one after the other. He was effected as well, of course, but at least he already knew his physical capabilities trumped that of these creatures. If he could lower them enough, he'd still be well beyond them, and they'd be so much slower that his heightened reaction time would allow him a better chance of longevity.

Jove was immediately attacked. The creatures were slightly shorter than humans, and looked otherworldly truth be told. They were pale white, like ivory tusks. They were covered in fur from head to toe, with blue facial features and big blue eyes without whites to them. Some of them wielded primitive spears, though most of them were bare handed. They roared in surprise and anger at finding someone trespassing in their lair. As they neared him, Jove knew that this fight was going to get bloody. His lips turned into a frown, and right before the fighting began, he spoke to them.

"I'm sorry."

Even for power to protect the people, as was his job, he didn't enjoy this. He wasn't one to languish on his decisions. He had made the choice, and he'd stick it through and do so without regrets. Still, he didn't feel right about massacring all these creatures. He understood they'd reproduce quickly and reclaim dominance over the cave system if he left some of them alive, and that would be enough for him. As the first one threw a fist at his face, Jove ducked it and slammed his palm into its jaw. The creatures head snapped up and Jove slashed with the same hand, nails first, slicing open its neck.

It had begun.

The massacre began, and as Jove fought he originally avoided the sprays of blood. However, it seemed that wasn't the right thing to do.

"Pour out as much mana as you can, and allow it to coat your body. Let the blood hit you too. Soak in it. Allow yourself to become drenched in it, and when its time, allow your own blood to mix."

The voice spoke with a sense of elation, and Jove was reminded that he was home to a demon. This entity, as human as it sometimes felt, was anything but. It was not inherently evil, necessarily. Jove was unsure that anything was truly and basically evil. However, its sense of righteousness was far different from that of a mortals.

The fight continued onward, and as Jove expended physical effort and mana, more and more of these creatures fell dead. Blood filled the walls of the cave, and soon one could hear the splashing of people stepping into puddles of it. The liquid was thick, and the crimson floors began to take away from ones ability to move abruptly. As Jove began to slip and slide, more and more attacks began to hit him. Claws and spears alike began rending his flesh, and his mana began to reach its limit.

As his mana reached its limit, Jove had to cancel his debuffs. He immediately felt his limbs get lighter, which gave him a renewed sense of energy. However, this also worked for every single enemy in the cave. They roared with renewed vigor, and as they closed in on him he felt himself waning. Lucifer's voice echoed within his mind, demanding that he push forward and continue to the battle. At this point, the fight was as much against his own psyche as it was against these creatures.

After all, all living creatures had a basic survival instinct. The brain would go into overtime during times of extreme danger, pumping a mix of chemicals through the body in maximum supply. He felt himself overcome with adrenaline, and as he squeezed out the last of his energy, he felt each new wound on his body so much more vividly than he had before. The shallow cuts and marks began to deepen, turning into gashes. The old wounds began to sting, and his muscles screamed for release. He knew that this would be the end of him. Despite his usually cold disposition, despite his understanding of what this was about, he felt a very human emotion in the end.

Fear.

He feared for his life, which was about to be extinguished. And for what? For the word of a demon who could as well be spreading lies as he could be harboring truth? Jove barely had time to question this before he felt himself take a blow to the back of the head. His neck craned, and as his eyes caught the glimpse of a rock which had been thrown, he fell flat to the ground. His body was unmoving, his breathing all but stopping, and as his world began to sound submerged he heard a cheer from the creatures.

Silence was all he heard as his consciousness drifted away. This was it. He had simply come here on the word of a demon. He had trusted it, thinking that the worst case scenario would be that he could overcome the odds and make his way to safety. Yet he had committed to wholeheartedly. He had allowed himself to be overwhelmed, and as he lay dying on the cave floor, he was surprised that he had yet to feel regret. Fear of the unknown, and of his story coming to an end. Not regret. It was then, at what he perceived to be the end, that he heard a single word from his patron demon.

"Stand."

Jove's vision lost its cloudiness, his hearing coming back in full, and he stood slowly from the cave. As he did so, the creatures slowly began to notice and were overcome by silence and fear. The wounds on his body had gone no where. His bleeding had all but stopped, slowing to but a trickle from even his deepest wounds. Yet to the creatures who watched him stand, it was as though the monster who had invaded their home stood from the dead. Jove's eyes glared up at them, through the thick mask of blood, and they saw only their own demise through his anger.

For that was what rested on his gaze beneath the blood. A rage that was quite unexpected of the 9-5 wizard. Opening his mouth and snapping his head forward, Jove sent forth a blast of fire that destroyed the closest of the creatures. Screeches of fear filled the cave, and the monsters turned and fled from him. Jove looked around, ensuring that he was now alone, and turned his back on the scene of battle. Slowly limping from the cave, he undid the transformation and became human again. Despite that, his wounds remained.

The power that had been promised him was real. Through the seriousness of the situation, he heard a mocking voice that was eerily similar to his own.

"Now you know, ye of little faith."
