The night was young as the Mage Hunter sat near the bank of Orchidia's River. In the skies above, Asimov patrolled the area in search of anyone who would dare disturb its master's peace. Ariael's back faced the forest that was only a couple meters away as he stared into the river that flowed west. His reflection was staring back at him as if it was trying to read his thoughts. In reality, Ariael's mind was pondering on the future. In a couple of days, near the outskirts of Orchidia, him and a few more individuals would gather together to form what the people of Fiore called a Guild.

Ariael hadn't been too interested in guilds when he first arrived in Fiore, but after being in the country for months he realized that in order to achieve what he wanted he would have to become a Guild Master. The name Mage Hunter was only known slightly across Fiore and most people didn't recognize him unless they saw a newspaper the day before, but all that would change after the next few days. This was why Ariael was deep in thought. What would the upcoming days bring him? Glory? Fame? Power? Prey?

Nearly all of his equipment was housed in his dimensional ring. Ariael had grown tired of carrying all of his stuff around and had found a merchant who was selling the ring. Maybe in the future having the ability to summon his equipment at a moment's notice would be useful. As he continued staring in the river, Ariael wondered how had he came across all of the power he had obtained since arriving in Fiore. He was now considered a slayer of dragons with abilities that matched no regular mage, but even the abilities he had now were rare amongst mages of the world.

The Mage Hunter was still trying to figure out the magic he had received from the Nightmare Lacrima. However, he knew wouldn't be able to find the answers he needed in Orchidia. Deep in the Sieghart Mountains and within the Valleys of the Worth Woodsea lied various structures from the past that could instruct him about his newfound abilities. However, finding them wasn't of importance yet. Just as he received the lacrima had he obtained yet another ability. This ability pushed him into the realm of impossibilities. What others might consider a miracle would he consider the acts of a God.

Continuing to stare at the water, Ariael would soon come to stand from his position near the river. From what sources told him, Ariael did indeed have the abilities of the Dead God, but he hadn't put them to the test yet. If he were to sink in the river and never rise up for air, would he return? If the day came, could he fight at the bottom of the river for eternity? If a blade ran through his heart and another through his forehead, would he be able to continue in battle? At most, the powers that he had obtained were simply guesses.

The single person who had the ability in the past lived in the world over a thousand years ago. The stories of the Dead God could be mere myth. However, Ariael had experienced the reality between myth and fact. Over the course of his time in Fiore, the Mage Hunter had came across equipment, magic, and people that the world would consider merely myths. He had even acquired some of those things. Was himself considered a myth. Beginning to walk forward, Ariael would begin to enter the river. It wouldn't take long for him to submerge his whole body.

After the water covered the top of Ariael's head, he would begin to open his eyes and peer into the darkness of the river. His strength and soft movements allowed him to float in place. If someone was to walk by they would simply assume that the man was taking a swim in Orchidia's river. Who would think that someone was deliberately trying to drown themselves? Raising his head, Ariael could see the sun's light piercing through the top layer of water. He didn't know what drowning felt nor did he know what death felt like.

At the moment he was holding his breath in while floating, but slowly would he open his mouth and watch as bubbles formed from the air that was expelled from it. Ariael's body was different from others, so it would take time before he actually experienced the need for air. At the moment he floated lifelessly in the depths of the river. Every now and then he could see something blocking the sun, which he assumed was Asimov patrolling the river to make sure that he didn't actually die. Soon would he feel the last bit of air escape from his lungs.

Was it true that people received a flashback of their life when on the brink of taking their last breath? The question seemed to echo in Ariael's mind as he felt the life in his body slowly give out. His silver hair floated around his face while he sunk to the bottom of the river. Unlike most people, Ariael could actually feel his soul separating from his body. It was the abilities of the Dead God in effect. He never did doubt the power, he just didn't know fully how it worked. As he descended into the depths, Ariael would see the water around him shine with a faint blue color.

Mana was escaping from his body and searching for another host. While this was going on, his mind would shift to a day of his life that happened nearly ninety years ago.

The sound of spells clashing and the smell of fire eating away wood was all around Ariael as he hid in his home. The land of Caelum was slowly getting ravaged by pillagers and his village was next in line. Outside many people fought to protect their home, but not many would leave the day alive.

Under his bed, Ariael could hear the sounds of spells clashing come to an end. Assuming that the fight was over, Ariael would climb from under his bed and walk towards the window that was nearest to him. Looking out of it, Ariael would see bodies of people he knew his whole life littering the ground. Men who he had never saw before were inspecting each body and taking anything that was valuable away from it. It was the first time Ariael had saw something so horrid and he could barely comprehend the sight. Tears slowly streamed down his face as he watched one of his neighbors arms being chopped off as he attempted to crawl away.

In front of his home he could see his parents standing in front of the door. His mom had a bible and his father held a blunt knife close to his chest. They were attempting to protect their home so that their only child could live. More tears would fall down Ariael's face as he stared at them. Falling to the floor, Ariael would begin to pray. He pleaded for help from the god they called Illumin. It was the only thing that he could do now.

The tears that fell from Ariael's eyes seems to cover the top of his hands as he pleaded to the god above. "Please Illumin! Help us!." screamed Ariael. Time would seem to slow down while Ariael screamed. Looking up from his spot, he could see the area in the house visibly darken. "Is it power you want my child? If so, simply say yes." said a mysterious voice that sounded ancient. Did Illumin hear his cries? Were he and his family saved? Without even thinking, Ariael would say yes and accepted the power the mysterious voice spoke of. Instantly he would feel himself beginning to be overpowered by mana.
