Jikan

Jikan walked the streets of the port of Hargeon, flipping a coin in the air as she did so. Despite her lack of enjoyment of how she went about completing the task of getting those kids to stop spraying graffiti on people's homes and shops, she was successfully. And she did not have to use force...besides scaring them by shooting a hole in a can. In the grand schemes of things, it was not a big deal and would at least get them to stop and probably get in less trouble. So she probably helped them in the end......maybe.

But it was a shame really, kids misbehaving in the eyes of adults because they were simply not following orders. She was told that  they were making a mess of things but from what she could tell, the kids did most of the graffiti on abonded buildings and homes. And the art was not bad, pretty good actually. Sure, a few of them were on actual homes in use, but from the look of them, the graffiti did more good than home in making the home presentable. It was a good decoration if someone would to ask her. The kids just needed some guidance maybe, some attention, and some other way to be able to use their art. Maybe it was some sentiment about being an older sibling herself, but her heart felt for those kids.

Shaking her head with a sigh, Jikan stepped to the inn she was staying in. A slight wave to the bar owner as she cleaning a mug with a rag before placing it under the counter. Walking to the side of her, she tossed the coin onto the counter, giving and receiving a understanding nod that that was for the night's stay before she walked up the wooden steps before continuing further down the hallway to her home four doors down. A jingle of keys and a twist and Jikan was once again in her room.

Once in her room, Jikan kicked her shoes off and walked to her bathroom.  Entering the room, Jikan disgraced the crimson red button-down shirt and her black knee-length shorts before reaching out with her left hand and sliding the shower door open. After removing the hair tie from her head, she shook her hair with her hands, loosening up the stiffness of her hair from being in a ponytail before stepping into the shower. The sand from the beach from her previous mission, the sweat from running about and fighting,  and the dirt from, well being outside and doing good old fashion physical activities, were washed down through the drain as the warm stream of water hit her body. The steam felt nice against her skin, the fumes opening up her pores and refreshing her body a little bit. She breathed in the moisture and exhaled slowly as she tried to think of what the rest of her day would bring. Perhaps she would take some time off and rest the rest of the day, or maybe she wanted to take on another request. She didn't know, she was torn with the build-up of energy she still had and actually craving to be lazy. Taking care of the pirates and ruffian bunch of kids was enough to exhaust her, though that was all from personality. It had nothing to do with the rigor of the task in and of itself. Once ready, Jikan laid herself down on her couch, a towel wrapped around her hair to aid in the drying process as she thought. As she let the water from her shower drip from her hair as she turned the tv on, she decided to let an hour or two pass in relaxation. Unfortunately, she was just as indecisive as she was before when her time was up.

But that indecisiveness would end when she began to think more on a different matter, why she was here. She had to find her younger brother, where he was. And she would not be any closer to finding out his whereabouts by staying here doing nothing. She needed to get out there, make some connections, get some favors, and get some extra cash to use information networks to find hints or even if she was lucky, his exact location. Jikan jumped off her couch, clenching her first as a fiery determination once again burned in here. Everything needed to follow a course, and the first thing would be doing quests to get her reputations up and to get some resources! And she still had time in the day, she could probably go out and find a job to do right now. After all, requests could be taken at virtually any point in the day. If she happened to want to do one later, it was no big deal.

After getting ready, Jikan set forth for her day, along the way she passed the Blue Pegasus guild hall along with its request board and headed straight for Hargeon's streets. She was a guileless wizard, and that guild probably had dibs on all the missions put on that board. Besides, it would be unlikely that any good ones would be left available with how active she heard they were. However, she soon was suddenly confronted, well, addressed by a young man dressed in what she could tell the Rune Knight's uniform. A surprise to her. She had been in town for a while now, and sure, she had done some good but she doubt she had gotten anybody's attention due to her skill or the missions she was taking on. She was not really surprised to see them about giving that the normal patrol.

"Please, you need to help me!" The young man seemed frantic. A look of concern immediately fell across the female Wizard's face. "What's wrong?" she asked in reply. The Rune Knight then proceeded to briefly introduce himself as Collin Simmers. Lord Reign Valystasia had called upon him for private matters, but he couldn't leave his post in Hargeon without a replacement. Jikan gave a sigh of relief. "...Well, why are you looking at me? Aren't you in a guild, ummm Rune Knights? Why don't you just reach out to someone in ya guild??".

"I..I can't. No one is there right now, and everyone I can get in contact with is busy on a mission they can't leave or won't be back in in time. Look, nothing usually happens anyway, because no one wants to cause trouble. But I can't take the chance of something happening and someone getting hurt. Just for a little bit, please?".

Jikan sighedm admitting her defeat. She couldn't take the puppy dog eyes of this kid, they were remindering her of her child siblings back home."Okay okay, that's all? I can help with that, I guess." Collin's eyes gleamed with delight. "Really?" he exclaimed. "Thank you! My business with Lord Valystasia should be done by the end of the day. Meet me then."

With that said, Collin Simmers left for the lord's castle, and Jikan was left with the responsibilities of a Rune Knight. It was strangely alright? Jikan wasn't exactly bound by the strict rules Rune Knights had to follow, nor did she ever want to be bound by strict rules due to the fact she was guildless. For that matter, Jikan didn't know what these rules were even supposed to be. She just assumed they existed to keep the country's law enforcement in check, thankfully from her experience so far, they were not over the top. And for that reason, if the mage happened to bend the rules here and there, she couldn't exactly be faulted for it. She cracked a slight smirk, she wasn't overly fond of the idea when she first heard the Rune Knight's request, but now she thought she could have a little fun with it, do something easy and probably get a little money when he came back. Plus, she doubts she could not handle any trouble that happened on her way.

The temporary 'Rune Knight' Jikan SUPĒSU began patrolling the streets, just as Collin Simmers was supposed to do. She honestly did not expect there to be too much going on in Hargeon. It would be foolish to try and pull something when the place was under the protection of a light guild and had Rune Knights stationed there patroling regularly, but criminals would-be criminals. And if an opportunity was available, it would definitely be used. Every area had them, some worse than others, so Jikan had to maintain some level of vigilance in her patrol.

The back alleys were always a good place to search for criminals. Dark passageways obscured defining features, and if someone knew the town well enough, they could escape with ease. If one was not so agile though, alleys could prove to be their downfall. Eventually, Jikan came upon what looked to be a drug deal happening in one of those dark corners. They immediately spotted her, recognized her to be a threat, and the two split. It was impossible to chase after both. Her first instinct was to chase after the older man, but he seemed surprisingly adept for his age. The one he was dealing to, however, was a bit clumsier. She went in pursuit of him. With her athletic build and agility, it did not take long for Jikan to outrun and outmaneuver him. With swift movements, she pinned him against the wall and reeled her fist back as if she was going to punch him.

"Who was that dealing to you? What was the object, don't tell me you are not up to something, if you weren't you wouldn't be running" she demanded. The man kept silent. "Talk. Now" A white magic circle began to grow in front of her enclosed fist. "A Rune Knight wouldn't hurt a civilian," he retorted with false confidence. She could see that despite his words, he was scared. "I'm no Rune Knight." The magic circle grew brighter. Finally, he caved. The man he was buying from was Reagan Hullston, and he gave up the type of drug. Jikan reported her findings to Collin upon his return and collected her reward.
