Kaz had just gotten the support of the Merchants quarter when more fears arose. In retrospect, it may be because he allied with the merchants that caused more concern to arise. The wind mage had been leaving a restaurant in the merchant's area when a fisherman approached him. He was wearing a brown jacket with enumerable pockets. The sea followed him wherever he went. His thick-soled boots drug on the ground.

“Kazimir. You helped us out with the threat in the cove. We are havin a meeting about your guilds presence. We’d like ya to come and speak you peace.”

The wind mage’s head shifted back “Oh. I see,” he replied with a mild amount of startlement. He knew this time would come eventually but to know there was so much concern that they would be meeting was a shock. “Of course. Just let me know when and where,” he replied with a pensive nod.

The fisherman turned away, his bag of clothes still slung over his salty shoulder. “Tonight. The house that overlooks the docks. It's the port masters place. And thanks again. No matter how the talk goes.” The fisherman spoke over his shoulder.

“Anytime and I’ll be there. Thank you,” Kaz responded. The fisherman walked away and Kaz strolled through the streets. His mind pondering all the outcomes of the meeting and going over what he would say. He had imagined himself as a man that would bring knights together and they would make their claim by their deeds and facing off against crime. It seemed things were far more political than that. It was something he still needed to get used to.

He headed for the docks early with the intent of getting to know the place a little better. He stopped by the pier. It was this very place that had rebirthed his passion for being a knight.

He knelt down at the splinters of wood that was left from his spell as he fought the wave. A little kid ran passed. Somewhat older now, but he remembered him from the attack. The boy waved and ran onward, chasing after his friends. Kaz gave a nod and stood.

There was a man that appeared beside him with a sign in his hand connected to a stick and pamphlets in his other hand. “Would you like a tour of our beautiful docks?” The man asked with glee with his fisherman’s hat shading his face.

“I’d love to. As long as we can end at the port masters house,” Kaz answered as he stood up and took a pamphlet from the man. It had pictures of all the greatest sights to see in the docks. Some of them he already knew and others were a delight to learn about.

The man showed him around the rest of the port. It was a bastion of activity and ancient places. Coves were at either end of the beach. The sand was pearl white and cafes dotted the coastline. The sea shimmered against the limestone structures built hundreds of years ago. Kaz asked a slew of questions about it and the man was eager to answer each one.

“So what is it that you love about this place,”
Kaz asked the man.

“This is where I was born and I want to share the wonder of this place with everyone. There is something about the energy here that makes you feel alive. Merchants and fisherman living off the sea alongside families playing at the beaches. Its a great mixture.”

“What about you, traveler? What brings you here?”

“Hm, For me this place is where I found myself after I was lost. You were born and raised here. But in a way I feel that this was the place of my rebirth. I was lost and it was here that lit the fire in my soul again and I saw my path clearly again. It reminded me why I devote my life to helping others,"Kaz answered with a wistful look out at the sea. It was all true.

This was the place he decided to become a knight again and fight for the people once more. As they walked he couldn’t help but notice the occasional glance from a worker at the docks but they weren’t directed at him.

“That’s a pretty good reason. I’m glad that Astera means so much to you. And here we are,” the tour guide announced with a hand on his hip and one on his hat, pulling the brim down further shading his face. He pointed upward to a tall building with a stairwell running up the side of the building. “Here is the port masters house.”

Kaz gave a small bow, “Thank you for your tour. It was delightful.”

“My pleasure,” the tour guide replied and took off his hat revealing a rugged face with a scar running across his eye and onto his cheek. “Shall we enter Kazimir Seiryu.”

Kaz smiled at the mention of his name and gave a breathy chuckle, “Of course. Port Master I presume?”

“Ha. you’re good. What gave it away?”

“It was all the looks from the dock workers. And the fact that you treated me as a random tourist. Not that I’m famous but I presume word of who I am would have spread to a tour guide,” Kaz replied with a sly smile.

“Got me there. Shall we,”
he laughed back and opened the door.

The two men walked through the gate and up the fenced-in stairs that climbed along the outside wall of the building. They led up to another door with a large keyhole. The portmaster took out his key and unlocked it to the sound of chatter and drinking. He gestured for the wind mage to enter.

Kaz walked in to see eight men scattered around tables and a giant old light beacon that once belonged to a lighthouse which now served as a table.

The eight men didn’t silence as they entered. One of them pulled up a chair and patted the seat as he looked at Kaz. The wind mage gave a sideways nod and crossed the room to sit in the chair. Many of them sat back and crossed their arms. Others planted their elbow on the makeshift table and held their drink in front of their face.

The port master grabbed an ale from one of the men and took a long drink from it. The froth clung to his stubble facial hair and he wiped it away on his forearm.

“Alright lads. Here is the man of the hour. What do you have for him,” he said as he hoped himself halfway onto a table, so one buttcheck and leg was on it while the other hung over the edge.

One of the men slammed his beer on the table, “Let’s get to business. We know bout your history with the military. We don’t want a fleet o ships filling the harbor. We make a good life with the beauty of da sea and don’t wanna dirty it up.”

Before Kaz could answer, another man spoke out, “We don’t want a military coming around to oppress people and we’re worried about whatever politics you bring around here,” he said with his arms uncrossed and leaning on the table. A more mild and concerned tone than the fire of the first person.

“We also can’t discount what Kazimir himself has already done. The bandits, the Kraken, and stopping that tidal wave,” A younger man chimed in The group of men bobbed their heads, some acquiesced the point if not begrudgingly.

“The actions of one man are different than the changes a whole guild will bring.”

Finally, the portmaster leaned forward, “We all have some concerns. I believe him to be an alright man. Now before we ask any more questions. Let's let the man we invited to speak for himself.

Kaz gave up trying to speak and just listened to the barrage of questions. He kept his hands calmly placed in his lap. This was stringent but he would rather deal with this than nephilims, demons, and fanatics.

After the portmaster leaned back and opened his hand to gesture for Kaz to speak, the wind mage cleared his throat.

“I was not aware there were so many concerns about our presence. I assure you that my actions that have helped this city are the spirit of the guild I started. We are good people who only seek to help others. There will be no litter of warships in the docks. We left the knights and much of their resources. We may have a few ships but they will not get in the way and we will dock them wherever you decide is appropriate. When they are not used for quests I suspect we can use them to establish a coast guard,” upon hearing that some of the men at the table nodded with intrigue and nudged one another. They began to lean in closer as Kaz spoke.

“As for politics,” Kaz chuckled and leaned back shaking his head. “I actually didn’t think there would be as much bureaucracy in starting a guild as there is. The truth is my guild and I. We began because the Rune Knights became a failed organization. Bureaucracy is the very reason we left. Stepping away from the red tape, and facing corruption. We wanted something that was clear in its mission and focused on helping others achieve more and protecting people.”

Kaz rocked forward and put his hands on the table top. He rocked forward so his forearms laid on the table. “Astera means a great deal to me. I have a history here that has shaped who I am and made me complete. I would do anything for this city. And you have my word, that your concerns for what will happen will not come to pass. I too want to preserve the beauty of the sea. I was raised in the wild. I also hate bureaucracy and want to see business succeed. I worked out a plan with the merchants to improve business here. And I will help in any way I can.”

The postmaster slid down from his tabletop, “I can attest to his passion. There are stories about what he has done here for Astera. For his passion to help others. And after speaking with him,” the postmaster made eye contact with the wind mage. “I can attest to his heart for Astera.”

“Ay. if the postmaster is with him, then so am I,” one man put his drink forward and drank it.

“Me too then. If ya keep yer word about keepin the scenery nice,” he also took a swig of his drink. A few more followed suit and lifted their cups toward the mage and then tipped them back to drink.

“Hells, ya make a good argument. Let’s make a coast guard then,”
the gruff man rumbled and drank.

“Thanks for everything you’ve already done and will do,”
the younger man said and drank.

The postmaster smiled and lifted his drink the highest and knocked it back, draining the cup. Kaz took the cup that was in front of him. If he was going to live in Astera he’d adapt to their customs. It foamed on the top and Kaz rose it high. The sailors yelled and clinked their cups together. Together they all drank down the ale. Froth covered their mouths.

And with that, the docks had been secured. The men drank the night away. Kaz was careful not to reach his limit and pretended to drink more and be tipsier than he really was. The postmaster eyed him with a grin, knowing what he was doing because the postmaster did so as well. One had to fit in I suppose.
